This place has been on my list for a while, and I won't be waiting long to come back. The parking lot is huge for such a quaint little tavern and restaurant, which is always a nice surprise. The staff was super friendly and hustling the whole time we were there. It seems like they shut off online ordering when things get too busy, which tells me they're doing plenty of business. First off, the sausage was absolutely delicious. Everything you'd want from a good Italian sausage. Salty, savory, and loaded with fennel flavor. I bet they make an awesome sausage and peppers sandwich. Don't let the picture fool you. This was one of the cheesiest pizzas I've had in a long time, and the sauce stood up to all of it. Have been wanting to come here for a while now and finally made it. Soooo glad we did. This place has been here for years and serves old school Italian. So good. Mussels and string beans oregano for appetizers were spectacular. Mussels were plump and the sauce was flavorful. The string beans were excellent. Cooked crisp with loads of flavor. My pork chop was unreal. Cooked perfectly and loaded with peppers and onions. Sandra had pizza and it was delicious. The baked lasagna was cheesy and delicious and the shrimp and pasta was money. Came here to meet up with friends for dinner. It was our first time dining at the restaurant. We arrived at 4:45, and was told that there would be a 30 minute wait. Not surprised because the parking lot was jam packed! Once we sat inside we were greeted by our server. He was very friendly. He brought us bread and water at once without us asking. That was really good. We ordered linguini with white clam sauce, linguini with crab meat, cheesesteak hero, and Shrimp Fra Diavolo. Everything was so tasty! The price was very reasonable. Including tips, and 3 sodas, the total was about $120. Because the restaurant was so busy, the menu reminded people to be considerate and give the table back after eating within a reasonable time. This was an old school spot with a wooden interior and an extensive menu that included brick oven pizzas. There was a spacious bar area in addition to the dining section. Although there was a long wait time, once seated, the service was efficient, and the food came out promptly. For starters, we ordered the grilled octopus salad ($17), shrimp beeps ($16), and a small cheese pizza ($13). The octopus was grilled and seasoned with fresh herbs, arugula, and supposedly grilled mangoes; though I did not see any mangoes, which was not a big deal. The salad was huge, with plenty of octopus pieces. Some were a bit tough, but the majority were very flavorful and tender. The shrimp beeps, served in a sherry marinara, were very good. There were about a dozen lightly fried shrimp, and the sauce had a slight spice to it. The bread provided was perfect for soaking up the remaining sauce. The cheese pizza was alright. The crust could have been cooked a bit longer, but the sauce was simple and just right. For the entrée, I had the zingara ($22), a pasta dish with hot peppers, Kalamata olives, sausage, mushrooms, onions, and fresh herbs in a spicy tomato sauce. I opted for rigatoni, which was cooked to my liking. The overall dish was solid. I wished there had been more Kalamata olives, as they complemented the other flavors nicely. The sauce was definitely spicy, but not overly so. I would have preferred the sausage to be crumbled rather than cut up, but aside from that and the lack of olives, it was very tasty. For dessert, we ordered a cannoli ($8?). It was huge and overstuffed with cream. Although I am not usually a big cannoli fan, this was one of the best I have had. Reservoir pizza - believe the hype.! As many know who traveled NJ its tough to get bad pizza , in fact good pizza is a standard practice almost everywhere. That said Reservoir is exceptional and its the crust that distinguishes First, enviroment is standard local pub like with a big bar area where you can eat too. Dining area has mostly square four tops and can accomodate many. Met a friend for dinner at 7pm Tuesday night and it was packed with a 15 minute waiting list but it went fast. Finally service was excellent , fast and nothing was forgotten and pricing in todays food world was suprisingly cheap All that said lets talk pizza. We went for a large cheese pie half plain and half meatball( i wanted the beef!) Meatball was plentiful but not so much that it pulled from the other flavors. The tomato sauce was rich and bold - clearly a home made sauce and not institutional.. The crust, ahh the crust. The crust was thick and doughy but not dense and its cook time was perfect no burn spots but crispy too. I had one of their specials pumpkin ravioli with a butter sauce and butternut squash. It was excellent as were the calamari appetizers. Service was chaotic and the dining room very noisy. Good value. This place I have been twice and it is absolutely amazing. Atmosphere is loud as most Italian places are but it's an energetic loud. Be prepared to wait but it is worth it so grab a drink at the bar! We Always love eating in this local place. Bring your patience when you go at peak times over the weekend. We waited by the bar last night and had drinks when it was extra busy. Great food- excellent service, always enjoyable. After reading Pete Genovese's column in NJ.com on the 25 best Italian dishes in the state, my wife and I decided to head to #19, Resevoir Tavern, in Boonton, for dinner. We certainly weren't disappointed! Pete's recommendation was the Chicken Parmigiana, which I ordered. I usually don't order that dish when I go out, but wow!... it was fantastic! The chicken was crispy perfection over linguini. My wife ordered the Chicken Martino which she loved as well. Resevoir Tavern has been around since 1936 and is really well known in Morris County, especially for their pizza. I definitely recommend making a trip there! It says a lot about a place that has been open since 1936 and still has every table filled on a weeknight! We try and visit this restaurant every time we are in town and it never disappoints. I had the pasta con sabia, a simple pasta dish with sautéed garlic, breadcrumbs, and Kalamata olives - yummy! Hubby had veal limone, with mushrooms and capers in a lemon sauce served over a bed of spinach and pasta with roasted garlic which was tender and delicious. Our friend had her usual - Due Melanzane, rolled eggplant with spinach, mushrooms, roasted peppers, and onions. Servings are HUGE (but I managed to eat my entire serving)! Bread is fresh and the infused olive oil is great for dipping. No reservations are taken so you need to go early or be prepared to wait! This place is always hopping and your hoping to get in; so carpool if you can or get transportation there. It is an older establishment with a reputation for great food, memories, with cash only policy. Somethings can use a little updating to make it more eco-friendly and sustainable (ie. unbleached paper products better). The best in taste should reflect that it is also the best for your health by the menu stating whether food and beverage goods are organic or non-GMO. Big portions great for sharing or saving for another day. Breads and pizza dough was really delicious bar pie not as great to me because it is more white bread compared to Italian bakery. Overall a very nice bustling place to enjoy a good Italian American meal. read more
