We were in Hopatcong for two birthdays, my mom and our aunt. It turned out that it was also our waitress's birthday too so the mood was cheerful. The food was great, and the portions were ample enough that my 90 year old mom could take home some fried calamari for later. read more

I would definitely return to this place. The quality of pizza wasn't top notch per se, but by Hopatcong standards? It's the best we've had. The pizza crust was super toasty to perfection. The cheese to sauce ratio was perfectly distributed. It was just a really good pizza. Not super salty like I've had at other places. The only negative I'd give the pizza is that a large pie is actually more like a medium. To be fair, I'd pay for a smaller pie with quality ingredients than I would for a larger pie with cheaper ones. We also ordered two orders of wings. Mild & BBQ. First, their blue cheese actually tasted like real blue cheese dip & not something out of a container (even if it was). BBQ wings were great, but as far as mild i think I'll just order the hot ones next time. The taste was good but the batter on the wings was a pretty light coat, though I know some people prefer that. It also could've used a little more meat. Price was reasonable I think, which is fair considering the portions. Overall, their customer service also helps their review. Professional over the phone & actually greet you when you walk in. It may not be with a huge smile, but a simple hello goes a long way. We may try other pizza places just in case,. However, here the taste is pretty good (wings included), this may be our main go to pizza shop. read more

Food was bland at best, sauce was flavorless, ordered calamari, and was given disgusting frozen fish sticks (they said it's calamari in stick form) that I wouldn't dream of serving to ANYONE. Hopatcong is known for crap businesses and subpar food catered to the seniors that run this town, but this is absurd. Just order from one of the other underwhelming pizza/Italian places in town. I am a stickler for Italian. I grew up Italian and made Italian food. Whenever I go for Italian it usually has to be higher end for me to appreciate it and even then I think I do better. One of the oldest pizza places in the borough, family owned, food is very good, pizza is excellent but the interior could use a major face lift, I'd guess that is why it is basically a take out place, there is rarely customers dining inside and I can see why, there is junk piled around everywhere and extension cords and wires throughout, the owner should consider a major interior renovation. Bathrooms are disgusting! The customer service in the dining area could be a bit better as far as personality's, most have zero personality, a smile would be nice on occasion, they seem like they could care less and wish they weren't even there, they also could use business logo wear, the one woman had on stretch pants and a tshirt both with holes ripped on both, not very appealing for someone who represents the business and is handling your food. read more

I had purchased a $25 coupon for $2 for this restaurant through my company's Perks program. I keep low expectations about pizzerias from many past experieces. However, The Grotto is an outstanding pizzeria, and the best in Hopacong, whch is crowded with pie joints. First, if you choose to dine in, the place I'd call "homey," but some might say "dumpy." The people are very warm, and the atmosphere grows on you. My wife had the baked eggplant, I had the eggplant parm, and our 4-year-old daughter had the mozzarella sticks and french fries. The eggplant, we agreed, was some of the best we'd ever had out. Even the french fries for our daughter were crisply and tasty. Then a few nights later, we had their pizza, and that was a hands down winner in the local pizza wars. So, don't spurn this place for its unfinished basement looks. read more

Excellent Pizza! Quality ingredients. Fair prices. I actually first went to this restaurant with a friend visiting from out of town who saw it and figured "hey, lets have pizza!". The staff were very friendly, and thus far the quality has been consistent. This place seems to be very popular among the locals, and I can see why! Since I moved into this area. I haven't found a great place for Italian food until me and my boyfriend dropped by here. My boyfriend grew up with this place and he enjoyed the memories of being a kid and eating here again. The food was excellent. It has a warm feeling of home. Great for family to dine. The employees are professional and polite. I had the chicken parmesan dinner. It was delicious. My boyfriend ordered the veal parm sandwich and quoted "it hasn't changed". We moved to the area a few months ago and were not expecting any of the local pizza shops to be any good, but to our surprise Grotto has not disappointed us yet! So far we have only had the pizza and only done delivery, so I cannot say how any other menu items are or what the restaurant it like but if you are looking for good pizza in the area, this is the place. read more

From eating there to ordering out, all of the personnel is so friendly and accommodating which always makes the food taste better, but it is quite good on its own. Pizza is pretty great, and when we feel like more of a dinner, the chicken parm and shrimp marinara are our go to favorites. The Grotto has been a Lake Hopatcong institution for years and years and is one of the few restaurants that has survived. Their shrimp and smoked mozzarella pizza is one of the best I've ever tasted. Their other entrees are always well prepared and delicious. They'll make anything you want just how you want it, and their prices are great. Friendly atmosphere, if a bit dated. But for those of us who've been at the Lake forever, it's our standby. Long live The Grotto! read more

We moved to the area a year ago and have been trying all of the local pizza places to find the best food. The Grotto is the only place so far that we've gotten delivery from more than once. The food is decent, the prices are good, and the free delivery is fast. I give the Grotto 4 stars for the antipasto and cannoli. Their pizza is good if you order plain cheese, but when I ordered a veggie pizza, the veggies tasted like they had been frozen and were soggy. My family prefers plain cheese, so that works for us. I haven't dined in, but I scoped the place out when I picked up my take-out and it looks like most pizzerias in Sussex County. The decor is older and worn, but the place was clean and I wouldn't be afraid to eat there. The staff was friendly. It's a great place to get a quick dinner whether it's delivered or if I swing in on the way home. read more

The best Italian food in Hopatcong hands down. Great place and great owners and staff. I recommend any eggplant dish, but it's all good
