This was a good hotel for a one night stay in Salem. They offer a buffet breakfast with lots of options. There is a full fitness center too with pelaton bikes. Additionally, it's only a 10 minute walk from the train station. The amenities all seem pretty new as well. The only thing that was annoying is our key cards stopped working 3-4 times. The front desk was always willing to help, but I wasn't expecting our cards to stop working so much. Other than that, it was an incredible stay! read more

Great location -- very walkable to many of the attractions in Salem, easy to drive elsewhere, and very close to the train/T if you're coming in that way or want to take it into Boston for a day. We did have a car, and while the attached garage made things convenient, the daily parking fee felt high for what it is (almost $30 a day). Just a heads-up. Also, there is self-park, and at risk of sounding cheap, here's a tip to save you on some tips... valet is optional, and I don't think I've ever been in a hotel where it's less necessary. Self-park is the same price, but you spare yourself the constant tipping, which feels like one more tiny cash grab unless maybe the garage fills up at certain times and they have to move cars elsewhere. The room was nice enough for a short stay, though some acceptable / common deficiencies are starting to show -- scuffed walls, certain outlets loosening up so the prongs don't stay in well, one bulb burned out, etc. But the beds were comfortable enough, the bedding seemed clean, the bathroom was also clean and the shower worked well, and the room overall still had a reasonably new look and style to it. The pool was also clean, warm, and the overall pool area looked well maintained with plenty of clean towels available and a good amount of seating. The pool deck definitely gets a little slick when wet, so watch your step. Breakfast was almost exactly what you'd expect from similar U.S. chain hotels -- pre-made omelets or scrambled eggs depending on the day, home fries, paper-thin bacon or sausage patties, a few cereals and yogurts, a make-your-own waffle station, a couple fruit options, a push-button juice machine, instant oatmeal, etc. There's a good amount of seating, and a handful of tables have their own TVs (though you may have to hunt for a remote, and you might get some cross-room interference if someone else points theirs the wrong way). One interesting detail: breakfast isn't on the ground floor, and you can't reach it via the elevator without a keycard. I assume that's intentional to reduce non-guest walk-ins. Overall, I'd stay here again for the location and reasonable price -- just with the caveat to budget for the nearly $30/day parking or have a workaround ready. The convenience makes it tolerable, but it's definitely something to be aware of. read more

This hotel was phenomenal for me and my group of girlfriends visiting Salem for the first time! Water bottles were provided everyday, the room was cleaned everyday as well. Our favorite part was the complimentary breakfast buffet! It was really good and a great way to start the day without going out too far. The location is perfect. We were able to hit all the sight seeing spots, popular restaurants, and Essex street was within walking distance! This is a great stay. read more

Location, location, location! Salem is not a huge town, but it is very walkable and the location of this hotel makes is even easier to get around on foot. It is also located close to several fine restaurants and if your visiting around Halloween, that is a necessity. A clean lobby is a great sign you have landed in the right place, even better when you see the staff tidying things up on their downtime. Although not much time was spent in the room, it was quiet, clean and had all of the proper amenities for a comfortable stay. If we find ourselves in Salem for another Halloween visit, we will be back, but will be sure to book WELL in advance next time. Cheers! read more

My 25th wedding anniversary weekend in Salem. When we first arrived, our key did not work in the door. We got the downstairs reception to come up and help and his master key didn't work either. So we were changed to another room, same floor opposite side. The place is super clean it's owned by Hilton so I had good expectations . We stayed four days three nights . On the third floor is the gym in the restaurant for breakfast from 6 AM to 10 AM. They have a good selection of things to eat and the staff there are super nice. They have valet parking garage for $22 a day but we were lucky to find a meter outside in front of the hotel. The Ramada inn is also walking distance to everything that you want to see in Salem. So when my husband and I were checking out the service at the front desk wasn't warm and welcoming and as a hold on my husband's credit card, they charged him without his OK he wanted to use a different credit card, but they had already charged the entire stay, even though I had said, could I please see a breakdown first . The guy checking us out gave me the breakdown paper. Everything looked good but my husband wanted to put it on a different card so the guys voice seemed very patient but I knew he thought we were complete annoyance so now will wait to 3 to 5 days to make sure that the money gets put back on my husbands other credit card . And I have to say I Hate when I do business with someone and instead of saying "goodbye, thank you, have a nice day" I get told "Have a good one" It was five stars, across-the-board until checkout time came . read more

Had a really nice stay here. Our room was on the 6th floor and had nice views. The room was clean and spacious and had outlets and USB outlets on each side of the bed. The free breakfast in the morning was pretty good - they had a waffle machine, cereal, egg white frittata, bacon, homefries, fruit, muffins, toast, coffee, juice, water, etc. I really enjoyed the frittata and the banana nut muffin! There were plenty of tables and some TVs to enjoy breakfast there. The staff down here was attentive and did a great job ensuring everything in the breakfast area was cleaned and refilled frequently. We parked underneath the hotel ($18/night) and the parking attendant was helpful and friendly. The desk clerk when we checked in was nice too. Overall great experience and not too far from some of the top sights of Salem. read more

We loved staying at this hotel. It's very close to all the Salem attractions. The area is so walkable. We didn't get a car and only Ubered two times during our stay. We used the heated pool on both days of our stay. It was clean and warm and lovely. The included breakfast was great for most people - waffles, cereal, and eggs/sausage. They do NOT have allergy-friendly options, so it is hard to find a filling meal for people allergic to gluten and dairy. If you are looking for a hotel in the heart of Salem, then this is your place. Hotel opened just a couple of years ago so still fresh and awaits your visit. Typical Hampton rooms: has all the basic and clean, just nothing special. Very nice modern lobby. A small pool and a very nice gym can be found at the hotel too. The gym even has a peloton bike. Dropping into Salem for Halloween, we stumbled upon the Hampton Inn Salem Boston offering parking for $40. We are extremely glad we decided to go with them as it meant covered parking, a clean bathroom on the 3rd floor (take the elevator from the lobby), and the free candy they had at the front desk when I went in to pay wth my card. Also they all had adorable costumes! The service was friendly and we would park here again on Halloween. In fact if we ever return (which we plan to do) we will 100% be parking here. read more

Pros: LOCATION; walking distance to things. Cons: *Our towels, 1 had a long white hair in the towel folded & hanging out enough to be noticed & then another had a dark hair coiled in another towel, we noticed this as soon as we got in. So we asked for a change of towels, the woman who delivered them had platinum blonde hair so that's who it was from. *Then we noticed sketchy people hanging around the hotel & sometimes in the lobby, 2 together looked like heroine addicts. *Then we saw SO MANY guests have there dogs (some big dogs too) stay here, including in the cafeteria area where everyone was eating! 1 guest had 2 dogs that kept shaking themselves at the table next to the food area & as they shook, I saw their fur go airborne in the light. *SO UNSANITARY!! Also how is there a sign in the bathroom to ask the front desk if you forgot things like toothbrush or toothpaste (which is a nice touch) but yet when it was pouring out we asked the front desk for an umbrella to borrow, which ALL hotels have (especially if they have their logo on it, it can act as free advertising for them)..the front desk said they didn't have umbrellas, so we had to buy a big one at walgreens across the street & have an extra thing to carry on the way back home (we used public transportation so extra stuff to pack & carry is NOT comfortable). *The coffee & water for tea on the first floor was constantly COLD, we had to ask for the guys (who by the way were gossiping about their personal stuff) to make new coffee since it's cold, they need to be more attentive. read more

I will give this hotel 1 whole star for the location because it is amazing. Right near Essex st where everything is. The rest of the missing stars is for the cold breakfast AND LITERALLY a CREEPY EMPLOYEE who kept winking at me and staring at me and making kissy faces at me while we were eating breakfast with my two kids and hubby. Also, the housekeeping department I think believes they work for a wrecking crew because they don't clean the rooms. We were literally were gone all day with the house keepers outside of our room and they saw us leave and said have a nice day and we came back hours later and they never cleaned the rooms. No towels, no beds made etc...they are lazy! When we arrived the rooms had a bad smell and still does. The carpet outside the room by the elevator has dog hair allover it. Our carpet is ripped really bad and stained. The towels are rough and have stains on them. There are homeless hanging around the hotel asking for change nonstop from any direction. The AC works well but sounds like an airplane taking off every-time it turns on. Pool is tiny and not big enough to swim. We were excited it had a pool but decided to skip it because it was like 6'x6' big. To sum it up, this hotel room should be going for $89 a night not the $300+ they are charging in June/July. The borderline sexual harassment from the employee is completely unacceptable. So if you stay here, it's for location only. Expect perverts, homeless people, and dirty smelly rooms, but with a great location. read more

They also have an outdoor patio which is directly beneath you. They offer cornhole and all we heard all night was the sound of beanbags hitting the wood and raucous yelling. The location is great for Salem and it's a newer property so not too worn down yet. I think you're either a "free breakfast" person or you're not. If you're excited about an old muffin or bagel to heat up, or an old piece of fruit because it's free, well then you're in luck. The sausages were truly awful, even by free Hampton standards, though it gave us a running joke for the day. I actually love Sysco homefries, but these were a bit steam soggy. And all of this at 8am when I thought things might be still fresh. Sustenance it is, good it is not. Even the barely warmed ham and cheese croissant from the Starbucks directly across the street was better. Also, be very careful with the sliding bathroom door. It's extremely heavy and prone to slide on it's own. One of our party almost lost a hand (big laceration and bruise). "OK" is about right, say 3.5. If you can get a good deal it's a fantastic location and not run down or dirty, but don't go thinking you're getting any value out of that breakfast. read more

I joined a Salem group on FB and a lot raved about Hampton Inn. It's one of the newer hotels in Salem and it's pretty close to all things Salem. About a 5-10 minute walk from all the museums, witch mall, and the harbor area. You'll need a car or Uber or Trolley to get to Salem Willows and the House of Gables. Everything else is pretty walkable. I really like Hampton Inn and Hilton properties cuz of their comfy beds. They almost lost me though when I checked into this Hampton Inn. We drove 4 hours from NY and I needed to do laundry. I asked where is the laundry room. The lady said, we don't have one. You don't have one? What hotel doesn't have a laundry room? Even Red Roof Inn probably has a laundry room. We don't have one she said, there's laundromat nearby. I'm a pretty calm person and I don't get pissed off easily, but I was PISSED. You are a new hotel and don't have a laundry room at $300 a night? I walked out the door cussing and I get to my husband and kids. The poor valet guy thought I was mad at him. We get into our room. I'm angrily sorting clothes preparing to go to the laundry place or wondering if I can go to Boston to catch the next flight home. That's how mad I was..lol. My husband says he was going for a walk. He comes back and says he talked to a guy at the front desk. They have laundry services. Like they come get your clothes and then drop them off the next day or a few hours later. The guy said it costs more than the laundromat. IDFC.. my time in Salem is more valuable than the cost to have my clothes cleaned. The last damn thing I want to do is walk around a town that I don't know at 9:00 at night to find a damn place to do my laundry. I rather walk around the little downtown area, but NOT the area the laundry place is in. There is an express one and there was people standing around with backpacks that I can't see what they're up to cuz there are no lights. Nah. and this not the area where touristy stuff is. So we turned back around cuz there was another laundromat with Fake Denzel (I'm convinced the laundry man really is Denzel Washington..lol) but it wasn't express. This laundry place is by Witch City hibachi if you need a close by laundromat. When you walk out of the hotel, the walgreens is on the left, a street in front of you, and a alley on the right. You go right and turn another right to be in the area where the laundry mat is near Witch City Hibachi. Other than that, I have no complaints about this hotel. I just didn't like how they handled the whole laundry situation. If she told me, no we don't have a laundry room, but we have a laundry service.. I would've been okay, but nah..she said no laundry room, go to the laundry mat like I can't afford their laundry service. Lady, I'm paying $300 a night for this damn hotel?? If you're staying here during your visit to Salem, no need to take one of their famous witch tours, as you can have one right there at their front desk! We checked-in late at night after many hours of driving from Long Island, NY. Actually, they emailed to remind me that I can check-in via my mobile phone, which I proceeded to do. Once we arrived, we also stopped by the front desk to obtain key cards, in addition to our digital card. Everything went smoothly up until we arrived at our room with all our belongings. There was a memo taped on our door letting us know that there will be a fire alarm test the following morning (please read the attached photo of it). Sigh. We were really hoping to catch up on rest after driving all day and looked forward to sleeping in before our walking witch tour the next afternoon. But since the letter seemed like the alarm test would not be too bad and that they will conduct it "as fast as possible", and we just unloaded our numerous items from the car, we stayed anyway. BIG MISTAKE. They completely downplayed the severity of this test - incessant deafening alarms and blinding flashing lights for over an hour starting at 9am, two hours before check-out. It continued even after a fire inspector went into our room and immediately left. It was such a violent assault on our senses that I actually vomited. I wish I could post videos here - the footage actually stuttered and glitched from the decibels of the alarms and the intensity of the lights). I have no issues with fire tests - I get that they are for the safety of the hotel and its guests. I do have issue with them not notifying guests ahead of time so that we have the option of making other arrangements. Why not when they emailed me to ask me to check-in digitally? Or when we arrived at the front desk when we got our keys, instead of some flippant memo taped to our door? When we posed these questions to Yoskely B. at the front desk - she looked at us with such disdain and scolded us exclaiming "You knew about this test...YOU KNEW! We told you." When we asked to speak to the general manager, Josh S., she informed us that he would be in at 10am. When we came back down at 10am, the front office manager, Nairoby V. with a similar expression as Yoskely, informed us that Josh was in a meeting. When we questioned her, she just stared at us like we were speaking another language. She did inform me though that they knew about the fire test several days prior, which was more than enough time to kindly inform their reserved guests of the scheduled test. When I asked her why didn't they inform guests (obviously, they did not want to lose bookings but I wanted her to admit that), she replied, "What do you want then? I can take off $50 of your bill." Well that isn't going to cut it since we paid for a service that was not provided - a simple night's rest. We called Josh S. several times since he "was in a meeting" and he never returned our messages. Thankfully, we were able to get our entire stay reimbursed by going directly to the Hilton executive offices/escalations, which I encourage anyone to do when having issues. Hampton Inn Salem's management and dayshift front desk could not care less about their customers or their jobs. I urge everyone to explore the many other hotel options in Salem! read more

The app can also serve as your room key to avoid the awkward check in with no bags for those of us there for just a couple hours. I was not expecting the mattress to be so light, it was easy to move and reposition so I could discreetly place the restraint harness system while my partner showered, she was being disobedient and needed some behavior modification. My two friends and stayed here for our girls trip to Salem. The hotel lobby is very nice and modern and clean. The. Two female staff at the front desk were very friendly and helpful anytime we had an interaction with them. Our room was nice and spacious and the bathroom had a very nice handicap accessible barn door style door on it which made it look nicer . Also the mirror on the back was really nice for three of us getting ready at once when one person was usually in the bathroom. The view was ugly of the rooftop and the air and heat were a bit inconsistent but otherwise the room was great. The automatic shades were very nice and convenient , though it took us a minute to figure them out. It was located a bit off the beaten bath so it wasn't crowded at all which was really nice . It was still close enough for us to walk all over Salem. Also not a bad walk to the train station. They had a pool which was nice, though a hot tub would have been great. We often stay at Hilton properties when we travel and have never had a bad experience but this experience was better than most. Everyone we came in contact with from the valet and front desk to housekeeping was wonderful! The place is relatively new and everything was well kept. The room was clean as were the hallways. The hotel was also in a very convenient location and as an added bonus had multiple charging stations for electric cars! Would not hesitate to stay here again!!! read more

Secure parking that isn't too pricey, and you can self park, the website implied it was valet, they did have valet but it wasn't required. We visited in the middle of October and didn't want to be worried about taking the car everyday, parking, etc. I'm very glad they had valet parking and we didn't need to use our car at all. The free breakfast was actually enjoyable for the whole family and they had a lot of options (even gluten free!). The rooms were very quiet & very clean. This review is late and will be lengthy, but my experience with Hampton Inn Salem is worth telling even after time has passed. I stayed here Oct. 23-25 2020. I stayed with friends and when it came to splitting the bill, we all should've paid $103.06 per person. My friends paid their correct amount, but for some reason, I was charged $10,306! I'm assuming it was an error on the employee's part or a technical error because the numbers 10306 are the same. At first I didn't notice because the charge was supposedly at $103.06. Approximately 3 hours passed after we checked out and we were about to leave when I went on my banking app to see the absurd charge of $10,306. I immediately go back to the hotel and speak to the front desk employee and tell her that I have an outstanding pending charge from this hotel. She is completely confused at this charge, she said the only charge she sees on the computer is the correct amount of $103.06. After spending several minutes talking to her, she admits that she did charge me twice for the room. She cancelled the second charge upon seeing the mistake, although she still didn't see where the extra $10,000 and some change were from. I called my bank to explain what happened and they tell me they can't do anything until the transaction goes through, but we all hoped that the mistake would've been corrected before it went through. The transaction of $10,306 posted on 10/27/2020. I have screenshots of the posted amount. I called back the hotel and asked for this to be rectified immediately. The front desk employee again tells me that she does not see this amount, only the correct amount I should've been charged. I asked to speak to a manager and was then put on hold for 15 minutes before the front desk woman told me that the manager said the amount will be reversed and I'll only get charged for what I owed. No apology or explanation was given. The manager didn't even want to speak to me when I specifically asked to speak to them. This was a horrible experience that I hope to never go through again. Even though the amount was returned to me in the end, the unprofessionalism and cluelessness of the staff was reprehensible. The fact that the charge damn near maxed out my card, I had no room for extra charges on that card until the money was returned. I've told my close friends about this experience and my sister who is a previous Hilton employee; who has also told other Hilton employee's about this. I do plan on posting this review across all platforms for other future guests to be aware. I am a frequent traveler and when traveling with my sister, we typically stay at Hilton hotels, but this experience has left me with a distaste for Hilton hotels. read more

The staff is so friendly and accommodating; I was able to have an early check in which was very convenient. I also called the front desk for amenities and they happily delivered them to my room promptly. The hotel itself is immaculate and beautifully designed, with modern luxury elements like a glass fireplace when you first walk in and rooms with spacious interior. My room was the perfect size, well equipped with a sliding glass door shower and king size bed. The key feature and the app made my stay very easy, which for a first time solo traveler was much appreciated. I cannot even put into words how seamless my experience was. From checking in, to swimming, to enjoying complimentary breakfast and checking out on the app, my stay was stress free and I hope to visit again. read more

The Hampton in is a basic hotel in Salem. The hotel is very clean and does have a parking garage attached to it where you can leave your car which during peak season in Salem is very nice but you will have to pay per day. This hotel is not worth $600-700 a night during peak season. If they charged $400 a night that would be more reasonable. My 3 star rating is for the price they are asking other then that this hotel good! read more

We stayed here from 10/2-10/6.22. We arrived too early to check in, but the staff held our luggage so we could wander around town. A room became available about an hour later so we didn't have to wait for long. The hotel is within walking distance to everything we wanted to see, and we were able to come and go easily. The room was a little small, but really, it was all we needed. It was clean, had a comfy bed, and the bathroom was spacious. My only "complaint," (and I know my fellow short people will understand) was that I had to run around in the shower to get wet. Minor thing. It just took a few more minutes to make sure my hair was rinsed. The fitness room was very nice. They should consider getting a Peloton, but we can't have everything. I liked their ellipticals so much that now I need to own one. Their continental breakfast was nice as well. There was a good selection to choose from.
