Location was excellent and the highlight for us since we didn't plan to spend much time at the hotel. It's right on the river and a 7 min leisurely walk (I timed it) to the Public Market, which is right on the edge of the historic Third Ward district. We even walked from Brady, down the Riverwalk back to the hotel, passing the Bronze Fonz and many other sites on the way! The room is fine - standard amenities to be expected of a Residence Inn. The bed seemed a little old so if the bedding is super critical, you might want to consider that. We didn't have a car, but parking is $24 per day. Breakfast is available, staff was friendly, and the room was clean. I would definitely pick this spot again when visiting Milwaukee! read more

This was one of our go to favorite spots when staying in Milwaukee for a few years until we found the newly opened Westin. This place is great - really friendly staff, easy check in process (or at least it was the few times we went in the last few years) and some great views of the river and/or downtown. Parking can be a little weird finding your way around, especially if you're in one of the outside spots, but the indoor parking at least was a really great deal I remember. The place doesn't have a pool, or it didn't when I went, and that can be a bummer, but a lot of the other hotels downtown don't have pools either. The rooms are huge with really high ceilings, and while there's plenty of places around to eat, having the option to cook in your hotel room is a nice one. We prepped our Brewers tailgate food there one stay before a game, then brought the still warm appetizers right over to the stadium. And you really can't beat the views of the city if you get a river view, too. The views from the rooms here beat out even our other favorite hotels in the city. read more

Good nights stay. My newly wed husband and I stayed here as a mini get away with our daughter. We had a nice relaxing time. At check-in i spoke with the front desk about parking in the hotel garage. When we got down their and couldn't figure out how to get we called front desk again. They said parking was full. That was frustrating because they could have just told us that parking was full. Also in the middle of the night we woke up to a loud beeping, almost as if the fire alarm was low on batteries (not sure) but it was impossible to sleep. So we called front desk and they got us a new room right away and were very accommodating. Overall the hotel was very clean. read more

I rented a one bedroom suite over the Labor Day Holiday and was in 522, facing the street with a view of Riverside Theater. The room was spacious and clean and really comfortable. I loved the large desk in the living room and rollaway bed. The kitchen was great to have and I appreciate the housekeeping staff fully stocking the silverware and plates. Loved the 12 cup coffee pot and coffee supplies. I also liked the easy to operate air conditioning system. Breakfast was amazing in the lobby area. From eggs, to pancakes to sausage (and more), they had it. The employee running the breakfast buffet was a sweetly, always making sure food was stocked. I really don't have any complaints. I would suggest the front desk staff keep a stash of coffee supplies behind the desk because I needed a Java bag and they didn't have any. Not a big deal and not a deal breaker. If you stay here, be sure to go out the rear entrance - it leads directly to the river, which is a great place to hang out and take in the city read more

How could anything go wrong in a beautiful hotel with high ceilings in an incredible location? Unfortunately, several unexpected things happened during our ten-day stay in July 2022. Though we were immediately impressed with the spacious interior of our room, we quickly discovered the water did not turn on as it was being repaired. Eventually, within a few hours, the water ran again though we had no warm water for the first two days. Being from Florida, the first two days, we experienced very cold showers. Then, the elevator issues began. Upon arrival, only one of the three elevators was working but very quickly, that one experienced issues also. Everyone in the hotel was confined to using the freight elevator - for everything. On the first day, I took the stairs down three times, all from the 8th floor. Our room was cleaned one time without our requesting such a service though we did call down to request cleaning two other times. Our exterior windows were also very dirty somewhat diminishing an otherwise excellent view. Would we stay at the hotel again? Yes, for sure. The view was incredible, and the staff was very friendly. The location is ideal for nearly everything downtown. The elevator issue and perhaps the cold water may have been out of the staff's control, but the house cleaning and window cleaning certainly were not. Despite all of these obstacles, we really enjoyed our stay and hope to visit here again. read more

Marriott's Residence Inn is an "extended stay" sort of property. From the hallways where it almost looks like an apartment building, to the room that's fully kitted out with a kitchenette and full size fridge, you would have no problem staying here for a day, a week, a month or more. I was only here for a week and I don't have a vehicle to make a run to the supermarket, so I didn't really have a chance to utilize those things. This particular property is a converted retail department store. Massive fourteen foot ceilings were way awesome and the windows are HUGE. Really, really nice. Two complaints. First, my room was facing Wisconsin Street so there was a good amount of street noise that made it up to me. Bus traffic, sirens, even a protest march went past. No fun. Second, the entrance and exits to the hotel seemed to face odd directions. Not onto the main streets, they go onto the riverwalk one way and onto the Plankinton the other. Just odd. Why no entrance from Wisconsin, the main street? Dunno. I'd stay here again, I would just recommend a room that maybe faces a different direction. read more

I really like this hotel. It had been a while since I had stayed here but the location is great with many rooms having a river view. The one bedroom suites are so spacious and often not much more than a regular room. 16-18 ft ceilings, kitchen and living room and separate bedroom. It's a strong 4 stars for me. It does have its flaws as the fixtures and furnishings are not high end although bedding, pillows and mattress was very comfortable. Overall decorating is perfectly suitable but probably due for a bit of a refresh. My most recent stay was only one night and although I didn't take advantage of the complimentary breakfast or the gym both seem perfectly reasonable as I walked by. I found the staff to be lovely. Everyone I encountered was very friendly and attentive to my needs. read more

If I could give a 0 star review I would. A few weeks ago I chose this establishment to stay for a quick getaway. With the exception of one daytime manager who was polite and helpful the other staff were dishonest, rude and discriminatory. At first impression the room could have been cleaner. However, I rolled with the punches. I opted out of cleaning service the first day and against my request, the maid came in and failed to clean up. The only thing she did was change the Kleenex box. Which further frustrated me. After returning from a day sightseeing. I learned that I was erroneously charged $250 for incidentals. The dishonest maid who violated my privacy by entering even though another do not disturb sign was present fabricated a story to her manager which caused me to be charged. Every manager I tried to speak politely with and give rational explanations to was rude and ignorant. Their rationale was they had to believe the word of their staff , even the general manager couldn't be reasoned with. And again, my room was never CLEANED! I was further harassed by the rude managers I complained to, with situations that shouldn't happen to paying guests. One example was my paid parking code "mysteriously malfunctioning" several times and my room key getting shut off. Even though these were mistakes on the hotels part, when I went to interact to get a new parking pass and room key, I was treated like trash. I even reported to the manager that I discovered human blood underneath where I slept and nothing was done to rectify the situation nor an apology. Not only was hotel not COVID-19 complaint, it violates several public health codes to have human blood on mattresses! I will be making a report with the public health department and the better business bureau. This was my second time as a patron of this establishment and I am a frequent marriot customer. Never again! They obviously lack customer service skills and hire staff as managers who are not qualified! read more

Rooms were clean and spacious, but windows were filthy and the bathrooms were very outdated. We stayed in a suite with a kitchen and the appliances were also very dated. Not the most attractive hotel, seedy by the front of the hotel, and rear of the hotel was under repair. It was challenging trying to enter hotel when we got there and getting to and leaving the garage is also odd. Nice breakfast and gym but the rooms are on the river walk and are Very noisy and loud. We honestly found it very difficult to sleep. read more

Incredible service staff! I was here for a week long training course and they bent over backwards to make sure our experience was a great one. It's right on the river and you can take the River Walk path to go to any number of awesome dining options. There's really convenient parking right across the street too at Grand Avenue Mall. Most cavernous hotel room in which I've ever had the pleasure of staying. They upgraded us to a one-bedroom suite, but it was the 15-foot ceilings that really wowed me. Oh, plus the floor-to-ceiling windows that comprised the entire exterior wall in both rooms, giving a nice view of the river, several nearby buildings, and a slice of the lake a mile or so away. Between those two factors and the extensive square footage, I was sorry that we weren't hosting a 20- or 30-person hotel party, because the room would have been perfect for it. + Good central location in downtown Milwaukee + Excellent shower head + Above-average towels + Both soap and body wash among collection of toiletries + Microwave, dishwasher, full-sized refrigerator/freezer + Kitchenette had all the dishes etc that you could want, even a plastic pitcher. + Fast, reliable wireless internet + Window curtains were about 95% effective at keeping out the morning sun. + Calendar magneted to the fridge door, featuring things to do such as fairs, cultural events, Brewers games, hotel promotions--just like you might have in your own house. + Cool Milwaukee-centric art on the room walls - That nutty "sink/mirror outside the bathroom" setup - Cold air came blasting unexpectedly out of the vents late at night, sharply and instantaneously enough to wake me up. Generally, the room and the common areas were too cold, despite our best efforts with the thermostat. +/- Nearby overnight parking (lot, not garage) is $7 if you enter after 3pm. That would have been nice to know, as we parked in the lot across the street (not affiliated with the hotel) for $15. read more

Man...I was really looking forward to staying here for a couple of days, but unfortunately had to leave early, and actually was not sad about departing. Located in the historic Gimbles building downtown, the hotel structure is amazing. The exterior architecture and renovated lobby interior makes this a pretty special place. Unfortunately, the renovated room decor, freshness, and appeal just was not there--and I so wanted it to be! I had a two bedroom, two bathroom suite and the space was great...the ceilings were VERY HIGH and although the lay-out was a little awkward, it worked. The queen beds were ok...but there was no punch to the interior decorating to want me to love this place--my expectations might have been too high...it is a Residence Inn after all??? I hate to be a downer---and won't be:). Aside from decorating and some freshness flaws, this is a good hotel in a great location! Although the rooms were a little disappointing, the staff was great. To celebrate our anniversary, my man and I took a short trip to Milwaukee and had the pleasure of staying at this very beautiful and perfectly located hotel. Fortunately, we were able to get a Family & Friends Marriott discount, so my review isn't based upon daily rates. Front Desk Service: Kind, friendly, fairly knowledgable of the area, and allowed an early check-in and late check-out per our request. Our Room: The room we stayed in was a King Bed Suite which featured; approx. 15 foot ceilings, a small yet fully functional kitchen, attractive decor and furniture, a gorgeous view of the river w/ floor to ceiling windows, and a fluffy king size bed with comfy linens. PS- The drapes shut out every ounce of light imaginable which makes it difficult to pull yourself out of bed. ;-) Parking- Directly across the street is a tad more inexpensive than hotel parking, so I'd take advantage of that. Overall Review: The room was huge and beautiful; We really enjoyed it and would love to return if the opportunity were to present itself. The location is perfect if you're wanting to be in the center of everything. The front desk service was great. We enjoyed the complimentary breakfast as well! I definitely recommend! read more

We were a bit unsure when we checked in for a month while we relocated to MKE. The place just seemed a bit dilapidated. Which it probably should, being carved out of the historic Gimbels Department Store block. But by the time we checked out, we were big fans of the staff. Miss Julia rocked it as our 8th floor main housekeeper. The folks at the front desk all knew us by name after a day or so and never failed to greet us and take care of all our needs. The breakfast people are top notch and friendly faces in the morning. Bottom line: these folks seem to genuinely enjoy their work, and it rubs off on the guests. read more

This was probably the most amazing Marriott I've ever stayed in. First of the two women at the desk were the best part (Latrina). They were so welcoming, fun to talk to, and probably the best thing this hotel has. Latrina "hand picked" :D our special room which had amazing views of the river and downtown. The room was spacious with high ceilings and a small kitchenette. There were delicious cookies welcoming us as well as the two lovely ladies. The fitness room was big and breakfast plentiful. I'd 100000% stay here again as long as the lovelies are there. They made our stay that much better! read more

In addition to the fitness center, continental breakfast, laundry room, and business center where you can print, they will buy your groceries for you FREE of charge!! Just bring them the list in the morning and they'll deliver the groceries to you. How awesome is that?? Did I mention the rooms have a full kitchen w/large fridge, microwave, AND stove?? I love this hotel; I'm a Hilton guy but when i go to Milwaukee i make an exception to stay here. I travel often to big cities, and this is one of my favorite hotels. I absolutely love the space in the room; the ceilings must be 20 feet high. Compared to NYC, the prices are incredible; i think my room was $169/night. Location is great for proximity to my clients in downtown Milwaukee. I had a biz meeting in milwaukee last week and had to bring our Director of Client Development. He's from NYC and had never been Milwaukee, so i picked this hotel 'cause i love it and knew he would love the space. I was right. read more

We decided to stay at the hotel because my son had a scholarship exam at Marquette University and we thought that less driving and more sleep would be the better decision. We were deeply disappointed as we had partying hotel rooms on each side and swearing, drinking, loud music, door slamming, screaming going on until 2:30 am and the hotel couldn't seem to enforce their rules even though many guests had complained (as we found out the next morning). The manager was unable to make any discount on the rent or any sort of recompense for what was a horrible night. The room sizes were ample and there was plenty of room, but that is the only positive. read more

Pros: -location makes it easy to get to most attractions in Milwaukee -really cool high ceilings (it used to be a Dept store) -kitchenette pretty well stocked with cups, glasses, etc -nice shelving in bathroom and enough towels -complimentary breakfast had a good assortment of items and there were some tables with big chairs by the window to riverwalk to sit in while eating -the front desk man was great, gave me directions to everywhere I wanted to go along with a map and everything circled. -free fitness center, with handiwipes to wipe down the machine, a big clean restroom attached, and free disposable earphones for the TVs attached to the cardio machines. Cons: -internet access didn't work (free internet was one of the reasons I picked this place. The front desk guy said they had just done some updates and maybe something got messed up. He pointed to the business center but I wanted to work in my room on my laptop). -the desk was slam bam next to the bed. This almost caused a collision getting up to go to the bathroom. -parking was $17 under the hotel or $14 across the street. Too high. -icemaker in the freezer didn't work and there was not ice on every floor (yes, I am lazy) Overall, a nice stay and I would recommend it for a stay in Milwaukee. read more

The thing I typically notice, for better or worse, is shower pressure in hotels. This shower was among the best - only probably two others have been as good. Otherwise, this was a fun hotel experience in a few additional ways. The first was being told upon checking in that we'd been upgraded (cue the Beyonce). Wha? Well, okay! Our reservation was for a studio but we enjoyed the extra space in the one bedroom. The front desk staff were also friendly and professional (sidenote: why is it that only in hospitality are people actually hospitable?). The room itself was huge in every dimension. It was a little like being Alice in Wonderland after drinking the shrinking potion - the ceilings were that high. The windows were nearly floor-to-ceiling and we could get a close-up of the architectural detail on the cornice of our building. We also had a view of the river, which was very pretty. One word of caution: if you plan to park, call ahead or pull into the circle drive and get directions for the hotel's lot, which has in-and-out privileges and is a dollar or so cheaper than the lot directly in front of the hotel. There is also a lot a half block away for even less, though it might be a weekday-only deal. read more

I actually lived at this hotel for two months during late summer of 2009 for an extended work trip. As a side note, if you plan on staying here for an extended period of time, the sales manager is very nice and flexible on room rates. I lived in a large studio style suite that had a kitchenette and 12-15 foot ceilings. The room was very comfortable and clean, and the staff was always helpful if I was missing something or needed extra towels. The lobby of the hotel is really neat, I believe it used to be a department store before it was converted to a hotel, so it has a big, open lobby that looks really classy. The location right on the river is pretty ideal, with nice views from the rooms and a pleasant walk up and down the river sidewalk. It is a short cab ride to pretty much anything you want to go to. The breakfast usually had scrambled eggs, bacon, biscuits, etc. as well as the usual assortment of cold food and beverages. Also, in the evenings, they usually have a happy hour with free beer and small snacks. They also have free wifi which was extremely important considering I was living there so long. As much as I dreaded living in a hotel for 2 months, staying here made it much more pleasant than I expected. read more

This all-suites hotel is located on the downtown Riverwalk which is a pleasant place to be and very convenient for walking to the shops/restaurants in the third ward, museums and various theaters. The room was VERY large and comfortable. There is a full kitchen, so if you were staying in Milw. for several days this would offer a way to save money on food. Parking is under the hotel and costs $17/day, but is worth it, with in/out privileges. There is a hot buffet breakfast included which was not excellent food, but plentiful and fine. The queen bed was very comfortable, a new pillowtop style and the sofabed was adequate for our son. We should have asked for extra blankets. Wifi was free and useable. Nothing fancy or stylish here but a good value for the location. read more

TLDR: seemed like a 2 star property which is charging 3.5 star rates based solely on the location. Longer: Positives - most of staff are nice, but one of the managers is rather rude - location is good - has complimentary breakfast Negatives - in room freezer ice maker doesn't work, rude manager told me to go up to the next floor and fill the freezer ice maker tray with ice from that ice machine, which sucks because the freezer lets it melt into a block of ice - rooms are rather dingy with scuffs on doors and other areas and crack in toilet - window curtain lines dangle oddly as their wall anchors have come out of the wall - walls are rather thin -- could hear my neighbor talking in their room at 3am - guest laundry is coin operated only -- but hotel does not always keep coins on hand at the front desk and does not have a change machine - got stuck in their elevator once because the door was jammed, the previously mentioned rude manager seemed uncaring that this might have a negative impact on the customers - shower water is barely warm during normal morning showering times - Showtime on demand service used the hotel's internet system which cuts out frequently read more

Wow, residence inn is soooo much nicer than its sister hotels: fairfield, courtyard, etc. I'm here on a business trip for the week, and this is definitely a great place to come "home" to. The front desk staff is super helpful and nice. The workout room actually has functioning equipment. My suite is huge and new with high ceilings and a view of the river. Then there is the digital control for my central air, i.e. no waking up in the middle of the night feeling too hot or too cold. There is also the customary free happy hour and free buffet breakfast. And the location? You're in the heart of downtown and close to the lakefront running path and loads of restaurants, shopping, bars, coffee shops, etc. My only complaint? You don't earn as many Marriott points as some of the other Marriott chains. You also have to pay for parking... but thankfully I can expense it. If I come back to Milwaukee on business, I'm definitely staying here again. read more

This is probably the most unique hotel I've ever stayed at -- and at the same time, the most positive and negative mixed together into one experience. The good: amazing size suite. $169/night for a 2 bedroom suite which includes 2 beds and a hide-away bed, as well as a full kitchen. Not a quasi-kitchen with a sink and a microwave, but the full-meal-deal with a stove, microwave, big coffee maker, full size fridge, etc. I don't know the exact square footage of this corner suite but it appeared larger than my ~800 square foot condo in Seattle. 3 TV's. The location is great as well. The parking didn't seem as bad as described in many of the earlier reviews. ***It is worth noting that if you don't need in-and-out privileges throughout the day you're going to save a few bucks by parking across the street. *** The bad: it sounded like a massive kegger was going on along both sides of our big suite on Saturday night. The walls are impressively thin: you can hear EVERYTHING going on in the room next door. This is not a good thing. The suites here are huge and affordable -- so it's easy to see how this situation comes up: split 8-10 ways it's dirt cheap to get a spacious suite in the city and have one hell of a party. The folks who run this hotel may be doing things to try to prevent this from happening -- but I can verify that whatever measures they're taking, they aren't showing positive results. There was a wild party going on in both of the neighboring rooms to our suite, and it lasted well in to the night on both sides. When they modified the Gimbels Dept Store into this hotel they didn't give enough attention to noise management between the rooms.... I like the location and suite layout but this is not a place to get rest on friday or saturday nights when the kids from the countryside come in to the 'big city' to get rip roaringly drunk and take their shot at knocking up the prom queen. read more

This is where I stayed during my first month in Milwaukee. If you're looking for an extended stay, then this is the hotel that you're looking at. The rooms have a full kitchen (with a stove), a large fridge and the extra high ceilings gives it a royal feel. The staff is very friendly and the free morning breakfast doesn't hurt either. The only pain point was the garage: it's a shared garage and you'll need to struggle to find a good place during the peak hours (of parking, that is). I'd totally recommend this place. Oh and did I mention that the first floor smells like bacon in the morning. That works up a very nice appetite before the breakfast. read more

Nice rooms but be aware of additional fees that were never indicated during booking nor on my confirmation email. There is an additional charge if you have more than four people in a suite that sleeps six. I was not explained this at check in and it was not indicated or included in the price on my confirmation email. Only realized this once my credit card was charged. Also check-in is at 3pm but our room was not ready until almost 5pm (and many other guest were waiting in the lobby as well) so if you have dinner or show reservations be aware that your room may not be ready in time. After my experience with this hotel, I will look elsewhere for my next stay in Milwaukee. read more
