My recent stay at The Kimpton Journeyman started off promising with excellent pre-arrival communication. I reached out via email before my visit, and the team was responsive and accommodating. As a top-tier IHG member, I was delighted to receive an incredible suite upgrade, which was a thoughtful gesture and much appreciated. Unfortunately, the positive momentum ended there. At check-in, the front desk experience felt impersonal and transactional. There was no acknowledgment of IHG status, no recognition of the milestone birthdays we were celebrating (the very reason for our stay), and no note, waters, or welcome amenity waiting in the room--small but meaningful details that Kimpton typically does so well. I had chosen to celebrate this special occasion at Kimpton precisely because of the brand's reputation for warmth and personal touches, but sadly, it didn't feel like much of a celebration. We had hoped to kick off the afternoon by relaxing with a drink at the hotel's restaurant or rooftop bar, but around 2 p.m. we were told they weren't serving at Tre Rivali--apparently because the person who makes drinks was on break. The Outsider was closed. It was disappointing, especially since we were eager to spend time (and money) enjoying the property. Even just being able to order a glass of wine or beer would have made a difference, but the lack of hospitality in that interaction was surprising and inconsistent with Kimpton's usual service standards. To end the stay, valet service was another letdown. We texted for our car at 5 a.m., and it took nearly 40 minutes to arrive. There was only one other guest waiting, so the delay felt excessive. For $45 in overnight parking--especially for a stay under 14 hours--that kind of wait is hard to justify. Overall, while I appreciated the upgrade and pre-stay communication, the rest of the experience didn't live up to Kimpton's typically exceptional brand promise. I truly wanted to make this a celebratory start to a birthday getaway, but instead it felt forgettable. I hope this property can refocus on the small touches and genuine hospitality that make Kimpton so special. Location is great to the airport and to walk around town though.

Classy all the way. Super professional service, modern, tastefully decorated lobby with comfy couches, fireplaces and a pool table, and a great location right on the edge of the busy part of the Third Ward. Rooms weren't especially impressive --- comfy bedding, nice hot shower, thick towels, included fridge and nice seating area --- but I guess you're paying for location (and valet parking). A well stocked gym and a cool rooftop bar are nice touches too. The front desk people were awesome -- shout out to Jennifer for her help!

This venue wasn't what I expected at all! The food for my corporate event was quite underwhelming and like "Bar food "! Not at all what I'd expect from a hotel in the city. The welcome drink was the best part and then a few of us left and went out to dinner. Although the food presented well, it didn't have the flavors of any kind. The pizza was like eating bread, the brisket wasn't very flavorful or tender and had too much fat. The sliders were dry and the bread in the charcuterie was like a rock! The brisket was in a crock like grandmas house! The fries weee tasteless and not fresh. Sorry Kimpton!

What. A. VIEW!! Stopped in around 630pm on a Saturday and boy did we JUST beat the rush. This rooftop bar is on the 9th floor of the Journeyman Hotel (called The Outsider). Walk past the front desk to the elevator and take 'er up! Indoor/outdoor seating that has doors when weather is crummy or chilly. Fireplaces, comfy couches, high tops, 2 bars; what more could you want. Food: It's all about drinks and light apps. And all but ONE food item is GLUTEN FREE!!! I couldn't believe it! Highly recommend the crispy shrimp and the fries. Mocktails were delicious too! Parking: we utilized the garage right around the corner. Only a few bucks for a few hours Only thing we didn't like was the delay of seeing a waitress. It was a first come, first serve type seating (true rooftop bar) but it took about 15 mins for someone to notice we were waiting for assistance. But once we were seen, we got our drinks quickly and our food came out fast.

The hotel is in a perfect location downtown, near the river and lake, shops, food, and the Public Market. We opted in for the valet service and the hotel staff took care of us right away. HUGE shoutout to Louis who carried our bags up to our room and gave our two pups treats as a welcome. He was super friendly and really made our stay special. The room itself was roomy and clean. Our boys really enjoyed the comfortable bed and looking out the window. We were here to spend a night away for our anniversary, and the hotel surprised with a bottle of prosecco and dessert. It was such a wonderful treat! I will definitely stay here again when I'm in town. It's hard to find such a nice hotel that is good for dogs, too.

Kimpton is my favorite hotel chain. They are each so different. I was able to stay here because of a free night from my IHG credit card. I was treated well. I was given a very nice welcome gift because of my elite status. No other Kimpton had ever done this! The room was very nice. The bed was a little firm, but comfy. There is a mini fridge in the room. The theme of this Kimpton is pets. They have a dog statue in the room with a water bowl. It goes along with the third ward where everyone has dogs. I didn't bring my cats with me, but all Kimptons are pet friendly. My one gripe is the tea in the morning... Usually it's available with the coffee. You can't get tea until the cafe is open. They had coffee in the lobby, but there wasn't even a microwave to make my own tea. They had Rishi tea which is local. I prefer the la Colombe that other Kimptons have had. Rishi was ok.

From the moment I walked in, the lobby was overwhelmed with a heavy, Axe body spray-like scent--so strong it felt like walking through a middle school locker room. I assumed it was temporary and that my room would be a relief, but unfortunately, it was worse. The room smelled musty, like a house that hasn't been aired out in years. To make matters worse, the wallpaper was peeling off the walls, which is unacceptable for a hotel at this level. Beyond that, the overall cleanliness of the hotel was lacking. For a boutique property, I expected a much higher standard, but the space felt worn and not well-maintained. The bed was hard and uncomfortable, and the towels were rough--far from the soft, high-end feel you'd expect. The most concerning part of my stay, though, was waking up at 1:45 AM struggling to breathe. It genuinely felt like a reaction to something in the room--possibly mold or poor air quality. I initially thought I was getting sick, but after spending a few hours away the next day, I felt completely normal again, which makes it hard to ignore the room as the cause. If you have any respiratory sensitivities, be cautious. I contacted the front desk to explain the situation and was told checking out early without being charged for another night wouldn't be an issue. I even offered to return around noon so they could turn the room, but was told not to worry since they weren't sold out. When I returned later that day, there was no note, and the staff refused to honor what I had been told, citing the late checkout time. While I understand policies, the inconsistency and lack of follow-through were frustrating. I also dined at the hotel restaurant, which didn't help the experience. The food was overpriced for the quality--my salad was warm, fries were room temperature, and clearly sat out too long. Dessert was equally disappointing; the lemon tart was buried under an excessive amount of powdered sugar, making it unpleasant to eat. It's honestly a sad day when I transferred to a basic airport hotel--Hyatt Place Milwaukee Airport--and had a significantly better experience. The bed was more comfortable, the towels were actually soft, and even the shampoo and conditioner were noticeably better quality. On top of that, the Hyatt was spotless, which only made the lack of cleanliness at Iron Horse stand out even more. Overall, this stay fell far below expectations. Between the condition of the room, air quality concerns, cleanliness issues, and poor service recovery, I won't be returning.

While the room was okay for the most part, there was a persistent vomit-like odor near the bed that wasn't resolved despite my request for cleaning. As a result, I had to sleep on the couch on the opposite side of the room and my work schedule made it inconvenient to request a new one. The bathroom was missing some basic amenities such as a soap dish, so I had to leave the bar soap on the counter. The shower's strong water pressure was really nice compared to the flow-restricted showers commonly found in California hotels. The staff experience was mixed. The night reception gentleman (working Monday through Thursday) provided outstanding customer service for his consistently warm and energetic greetings every time I passed. The night valet Martin also deserves special recognition for his outstanding service, sprinting to retrieve my car and showing remarkable attention to detail by noticing my night work schedule and trying to proactively have my car ready. However, the daytime valet service was disappointing. Two valets would unnecessarily retrieve my car together (Maybe one was shadowing the other). During these retrievals, one valet would sit on my belongings in the passenger seat (this happened multiple days). I later discovered after leaving Milwaukee that she damaged my glasses. Given the short distance to the garage, this practice seems unnecessary and showed a lack of respect for guest property. If they noticed stuff on the seat, they could've just walked back. For future improvement, I would suggest better attention to guests' personal belongings and a review of valet procedures.

Location, location, location! I wish there were more surfaces in our hotel for storing my toiletries in the bathroom, a place to set things in the room (aside from the floor), a desk. This may be unique to our room, all the rooms at the hotel are different. Not an inconvenience, more a note to ownership for an easy usability upgrade. We had an issue with our automatic lock keypad at midnight after walking home from the festival. We texted the number and someone responded right away. There is not a front desk here so quick response to offsite staff is critical. The hotel contact was friendly and drove to us in 15 minutes to resolve the issue. Tips if you stay here - a) get pre-reservations at Agency cocktail bar set inside the hotel if you're into libations (including non alcoholic). It's a small space and super fun time, they book up quickly! b) when they offer you a dedicated parking space right outside the hotel for an additional fee, take it.
