Our experience one-night at the Kimpton Journeyman was perfect. We've stayed at a handful of Kimptons around the US (and even one in Paris) so we dig the overall modern-boutique vibe, generally hopping atmosphere, and, of course, the signature complimentary wine hour! We got all of that during our one-night stay. It's perfectly situated in the Historic Third Ward with easy walking access to anywhere you'd want to go in that part of Milwaukee. Our room was nice on a high floor with a decent view of the surrounding buildings. Everyone at wine-hour was friendly and seemed happy to see us. I enjoyed the wine...the snacks part may have been a little less in terms of offerings from what we experienced elsewhere, but halfway through my glass of wine I'm pretty sure I didn't care...it was a pre-dinner situation anyway.) There was always a lot of people and energy in the lobby throughout our stay. They have a very popular roof-top bar which attracts lots of people from outside of the hotel. My recent stay at The Kimpton Journeyman started off promising with excellent pre-arrival communication. I reached out via email before my visit, and the team was responsive and accommodating. As a top-tier IHG member, I was delighted to receive an incredible suite upgrade, which was a thoughtful gesture and much appreciated. Unfortunately, the positive momentum ended there. At check-in, the front desk experience felt impersonal and transactional. There was no acknowledgment of IHG status, no recognition of the milestone birthdays we were celebrating (the very reason for our stay), and no note, waters, or welcome amenity waiting in the room--small but meaningful details that Kimpton typically does so well. I had chosen to celebrate this special occasion at Kimpton precisely because of the brand's reputation for warmth and personal touches, but sadly, it didn't feel like much of a celebration. We had hoped to kick off the afternoon by relaxing with a drink at the hotel's restaurant or rooftop bar, but around 2 p.m. we were told they weren't serving at Tre Rivali--apparently because the person who makes drinks was on break. The Outsider was closed. It was disappointing, especially since we were eager to spend time (and money) enjoying the property. Even just being able to order a glass of wine or beer would have made a difference, but the lack of hospitality in that interaction was surprising and inconsistent with Kimpton's usual service standards. To end the stay, valet service was another letdown. We texted for our car at 5 a.m., and it took nearly 40 minutes to arrive. There was only one other guest waiting, so the delay felt excessive. For $45 in overnight parking--especially for a stay under 14 hours--that kind of wait is hard to justify. Overall, while I appreciated the upgrade and pre-stay communication, the rest of the experience didn't live up to Kimpton's typically exceptional brand promise. I truly wanted to make this a celebratory start to a birthday getaway, but instead it felt forgettable. I hope this property can refocus on the small touches and genuine hospitality that make Kimpton so special. Location is great to the airport and to walk around town though. read more

Super professional service, modern, tastefully decorated lobby with comfy couches, fireplaces and a pool table, and a great location right on the edge of the busy part of the Third Ward. Rooms weren't especially impressive --- comfy bedding, nice hot shower, thick towels, included fridge and nice seating area --- but I guess you're paying for location (and valet parking). One front desk employee in particular was exceptionally rude and demonstrated a complete lack of customer service skills. Terrifying experience and awful management. I'll start with the terrifying - we woke up at 3AM because of the smell of smoke. I looked out the window, quiet street, I checked our hallway, clear. I called the front desk and the person on duty repeatedly mumbled that "something was being shredded and maybe some paper got caught, but there is no fire." The smell got stronger and stronger (we were on the 6th floor in a room with windows that were sealed shut). Needless to say, we never went back to sleep. When we checked out the next morning I mentioned this to the people at the desk, they had no idea and nothing on record about the incident. Another guest at the desk stated they also woke from the smoke, on the 3rd floor. The desk people just shrugged and ignored the concern. We should have known this would be a lousy hotel when we checked in. My husband and I arrived at the hotel having booked through the American Express Platinum Travel platform. We had requested a late check-out upon booking and the hotel immediately responded "if available." When I asked about the late checkout, the desk clerk, said "you booked through Expedia, so that's not an option." I showed him the email that the hotel sent, via Amex, and he said that Amex books through Expedia - Not true! VERY INEXPERIENCED staff on every level. I do NOT recommend staying - EVER. read more

Whenever I travel, I like to stay at Kimpton hotels because the vibe is always right and they offer a lot of nice amenities and extra little perks. On a recent trip to Milwaukee, however, our experience with the Kimpton there was less than ideal. When we arrived on a Saturday to check in, they couldn't find our reservation and despite showing them receipts and proof that I had made one, it instantly set off bad vibes from the staff. Once they "found" our reservation, we were offered two complementary beverage coupons for the rooftop bar as an apology which we appreciated. Unfortunately, when we got to our room, we were put into a room with two queen beds - it was my husband and I traveling together, and when I called down to the front desk to request a king bed room, I was very briefly and rudely told that there were none available. A king bed was the type of room that I had booked and paid for, however. Trying to not let this phase me and ruin our short weekend trip, I decided to let it go and leave it be. The room itself was clean and spacious with good water, pressure and plenty of hot water. Our television didn't work, and when my husband called down to the front desk, he was very rudely told that it was affecting all of the televisions in the hotel. No solution or reimbursement was offered. We did partake in their complementary happy hour in the lobby from 5 to 6 PM and enjoyed a seasonal whiskey cocktail. And the rooftop bar had a nice layout with heated and covered patio space with fire pits. Normally, I rant and rave about how much I love Kimpton hotels but this one just missed the mark for me. read more

The rooms are awesome. Hotel is clean and super friendly. Ice machines on every other floor. But On my stay the internet sucked. And so did the TV. I called down and asked if there's something wrong with the internet. She said "No it's working great down here"....Solid lol. Nice troubleshooting. So I just used my Hotspot for my stay. I don't know if they have streaming or not because my menu button didn't work on the remote. And BTW when you turn on your TV you need to hit channel up button until you get to channel 5....and then surf. My guide button didn't work. Great location though. Cheers ! read more

Great hotel. Pretty lobby with lots of places to sit. Good restaurant on-site. Spacious and nice bathroom. Though, the lighting was pretty dark in the bathroom and there's no tub. This was the only hotel that came up as part of The Edit through Sapphire Reserve, so I booked it because of the perks. I stayed for one night. I liked that there was a free happy hour with two types of beers and two types of wine available in the lobby. There was a fridge in the room and a really cute statue of a dog. The towels were low quality and scratchy. I was able to hear a lot of hallway commotion. There were showers but not baths. Side note: I used Spot Hero to book parking at a nearby lot for about $10 as opposed to paying the parking fee at the hotel. read more

From the moment you step into the sumptuous lobby with its fire lit fireplace and rise silently elegantly to the rooftop, you are enchanted. The view of the city is breathtaking, the drinks and staff are top notch and the ambiance is light and happy. A must if you are visiting or want to treat yourself. 5 stars. read more

First time at a Kimpton - first time in Milwaukee ! We came up for my wife's retirement from Quad party at Harbor House - very nice choice here . Liked the location and friendly demeanor of everyone . We walked in during gratis happy hour , and I was offered a Spotted Cow WI beer - good choice ! I had a couple - then more in restaurants and bars during our stay - and even grabbed a twelve pack at the airport to take back , for sampling elsewhere ! Our room was comfy and cozy with a big soaking tub too. Robes . A yoga mat in the closet and a big umbrella too . Actual hooks - hooks !! - for hanging stuff in the entry hall and a couple in the bathroom . Hooks for hanging stuff makes us happy . Good toiletries and a Toto toilet ( our choice at home ) means someone's paying attention . Slow close seat ? Yep . Dimmer on vanity lights do as not to have it blaring in your eyes at a 3am whiz ? Check . Good blackout curtains too . These things that an amazing amount of other hotels just don't bother to do add to your comfort and the overall experience. The rooftop bar the first night was perfect - nice seat at the uncrowded bar to watch some World Cup action w a couple well made old fashions and beers . The next night - I must have missed the Free Drinks ! Sign downstairs - it was slammed and I did a 360 after trying and exiting in a crowd for a drink . Elsewhere . Speaking of elsewhere I liked the vibe and buildings and history of the Third Ward . Walking distance to the Lake Michigan shore front. Bd great Milwaukee museum of art are bonuses here . Comfy beds and pillows . No coffee maker in room but there's a dorm sized fridge . Clean . One thing - for us it was very - as in Very dog friendly -.we had our puppy who received lots of attention ! But - the downstairs restaurant , while with tables along the sidewalk , doesn't allow dogs . Most places we've been - a Lot ! - allow dogs by outdoor tables . Actually our room overlooked this area and we never saw anyone sitting outside . Views to the Ben and Jerry ice cream shop across the street . Liked it here enough to return some time . The staff was so accommodating and Clare, the event coordinator, was an absolutely invaluable part of planning everything and we could not have done it without her. We decided to spend some extra money to stay at this hotel because the reviews were great and the location is good for walking to places. Staff was great and rooms were comfy enough. Not worth the money. However, the reason for the negative rating, is that it's very frustrating paying this amount of money and not being able to watch anything on the TV. And the streaming was too slow that the shows were just constantly lagging. There was also no coffee maker in the room. When I'm paying this much money, I think we should at least being able to throw something on tv during our down time. So once again, absolutely not worth the money and very disappointing. Won't be staying again. Would much rather spend my money at some of the other boutique hotels in the area. read more

This venue wasn't what I expected at all! The food for my corporate event was quite underwhelming and like "Bar food "! Not at all what I'd expect from a hotel in the city. The welcome drink was the best part and then a few of us left and went out to dinner. Although the food presented well, it didn't have the flavors of any kind. The pizza was like eating bread, the brisket wasn't very flavorful or tender and had too much fat. The sliders were dry and the bread in the charcuterie was like a rock! What. A. VIEW!! Stopped in around 630pm on a Saturday and boy did we JUST beat the rush. This rooftop bar is on the 9th floor of the Journeyman Hotel (called The Outsider). Walk past the front desk to the elevator and take 'er up! Indoor/outdoor seating that has doors when weather is crummy or chilly. Fireplaces, comfy couches, high tops, 2 bars; what more could you want. Food: It's all about drinks and light apps. And all but ONE food item is GLUTEN FREE!!! I couldn't believe it! Highly recommend the crispy shrimp and the fries. Mocktails were delicious too! Parking: we utilized the garage right around the corner. Only a few bucks for a few hours Only thing we didn't like was the delay of seeing a waitress. It was a first come, first serve type seating (true rooftop bar) but it took about 15 mins for someone to notice we were waiting for assistance. The hotel is in a perfect location downtown, near the river and lake, shops, food, and the Public Market. We opted in for the valet service and the hotel staff took care of us right away. HUGE shoutout to Louis who carried our bags up to our room and gave our two pups treats as a welcome. He was super friendly and really made our stay special. The room itself was roomy and clean. Our boys really enjoyed the comfortable bed and looking out the window. We were here to spend a night away for our anniversary, and the hotel surprised with a bottle of prosecco and dessert. It was such a wonderful treat! I will definitely stay here again when I'm in town. It's hard to find such a nice hotel that is good for dogs, too. read more

I recently stayed at this hotel, and while the accommodations themselves were fine, I was really disappointed to learn from multiple conversations that the waitstaff are not receiving the level of tips or compensation they deserve. It was clear that the hard-working servers are not being supported the way they should be. What bothered me most was seeing how much the staff does. They are the ones creating the positive experience, yet they do not seem to be fairly recognized or compensated by management. These employees deserve much better. I truly hope the hotel's leadership takes steps toward paying their team transparently and fairly, because the staff are the only reason this place runs as well as it does. read more

I've stayed here countless times. The hotel is beautiful but WOW to the constant rudeness of the front desk staff. I've never had a pleasurable experience with the front desk interaction and have stayed here maybe 10 times?? To me, this is one of the most important roles a hotel has. Granted, I did go in to meet a friend for lunch (this time) and it was challenging to get wifi/service so I asked the front desk for the wifi to ensure I can get incoming work calls etc. I asked the front desk and felt scared/ intimated to ask her to repeat anything because she was pissed. Zero friendliness and felt very catty with her other associate tbh... With additional hotels popping up, this won't be the one I choose. read more

Housekeeping is awful and the front desk could care less. If you leave your room past 12pm you don't get service. Upon check in my room wasn't very clean. I nearly cut my foot on a plastic razor cover left on the floor. Finger smudges on the mirrors and clogged sinks. They don't even know how room service works. I was told to look at the tv! There is nothing about room service on the tv and turns out they never gave me the welcome letter with WiFi or room service barcode. The rooftop bar service is awful and the bartenders are rude! I sat at the bar 3 nights in a row waiting for someone to acknowledge me. Instead they were watching tv or talking to each other! When they finally did acknowledge me they gave me an epic attitude and the smallest pour of wine I've ever seen! I used to be a fan of Kimptons until this one. Hard to believe this is the hospitality in Milwaukee. read more

Kimpton is my favorite hotel chain. They are each so different. I was able to stay here because of a free night from my IHG credit card. I was treated well. I was given a very nice welcome gift because of my elite status. No other Kimpton had ever done this! The room was very nice. The bed was a little firm, but comfy. There is a mini fridge in the room. The theme of this Kimpton is pets. They have a dog statue in the room with a water bowl. It goes along with the third ward where everyone has dogs. I didn't bring my cats with me, but all Kimptons are pet friendly. My one gripe is the tea in the morning... Usually it's available with the coffee. You can't get tea until the cafe is open. They had coffee in the lobby, but there wasn't even a microwave to make my own tea. They had Rishi tea which is local. I prefer the la Colombe that other Kimptons have had. Rishi was ok. read more

I just love this place. The hotel is hip with historic authenticity. Love the Kimpton social hour and relaxed environment. There are two restaurants. The rooftop has firepits and is cozy during the winter. The Mediterranean restaurant downstairs had an excellent breakfast and a great vibe for dinner. From the folks at reception, to the social hour host, to the breakfast servers, servers at both restaurants and the text from housekeeping to check in on me, the service was impeccable and always with a smile. The room was also fantastic. It was newly renovated, spacious and had upscale finishes. The area is historic with plenty of restaurant options. Very walkable. Try a chocolate glazed at Valentino's. Overall a very good experience. The lobby is great for lounging around esp in winter.. The hotel itself allows for certain pets. They assign on a specific floor which is typical. Our room was perfect for our pet except that there were these underbed gaps which allowed for her to sneak into the underneath of the bed. (A dog would not be able to ) So maybe should add something around that gap so that it's not accessible to littlest sneaky fur babies. View from our room was nice. The only thing would be to maybe clean or change the carpeting as there were a couple of previous stains .. there were no pet smells whatsoever and you can't see them outright... bc the carpeting hides it well but theyre there. Otherwise, the room was very clean and kept up bed was great. The shower?? Great ! Nice to be able to take a nice warm shower. Robes were provided always a nice touch. The staff all very nice, helpful from start to finish, the valets, the restaurant, ba, check in etc. Upstairs bar is AWESOME. Outside available in warmer weather but also, nicely covered for winter and a nice fireplace, views... perfect. They do a happy hour in the lobby and brekkies in the am. We only ate the brekkie and it was very good. Def would return. read more

This hotel is grossly overrated and overpriced... I just paid $650 a night for a basic king room that was dark, and smelled like dog pee. Disgusting.... Plus the drains did not drain. I recommend staying elsewhere!! read more

Really nice restaurant that has free coffee in the morning. All pretty great. I really like that this hotel is modern and relatively new, yet was built to have a nostalgic feel. They have some nice amenities, like bike rental (I think they are free) and backpacks for those who want to venture around the city and lakeshore. There is no swimming pool however. As far as the rooms, they are average size. They do have a nice shower and TV but are not very sound proof. Any noise in the hallway is easily heard in the room. And here's what can be a big let down.... Depending on what side of the hallway you are on you might get a nice view of the 3rd Ward or.... Like we did, get to look at basically nothing. Just the walls and rooftop of the buildings behind the hotel. Would stay here again, but would ask for a better view! read more

Hotel was fine. Nothing special, but good location. The valet service caused damage to the interior of my car which I reported to the hotel on the drive home when I noticed it. I sent photos and spent hours communicating with the valet service. The service was very slow to respond and I had to reach out several times to get a response. They denied my claim. I stay here regularly. Can't beat the location in the Third District. It really takes on additional magic in the winter with a warm welcoming fireplace in the lobby and happy hour with wine & snacks. The Kimpton Journeyman Hotel was amazing! This was our second time staying with this hotel, once prior we stayed at the Huntington Beach location in California and again, I was very impressed! The hotel room was very clean with a great view and centrally located with many food/ drink options within walking distance or riding distance with the complimentary bikes you can take out. The restaurant located in the hotel had AMAZING Mediterranean food, we ate there several times, and the rooftop bar had great drinks, very comfortable seating, and a great view, with great staff as well! The staff was very courteous and helpful with anything you may have forgotten or needed, we had some unexpected rain during our stay and did not have an umbrella or ponchos and the hotel had all we needed to still be able to enjoy our day trips and stay dry! The complimentary happy hours were great to unwind, enjoy the warmth, and wonderful decor of the lobby with great company and conversation! Mattresses sit on frame, with no box spring (dorm rooms have better mattresses). They are saggy. My back hurt so badly, had hard time sleeping and was sore all day. Shower does not drain, so standing in water (even next day). Had a mystery charge for $122 at 3am...front desk said it was unauthorized and would fall off credit card??? There are dogs everywhere in the hotel (and my floor smells like it). Had do not disturb on door, yet person kept pounding...answered, only to be handed 4 bags of coffee, yet room has no coffee maker??? Ordered wood fired pizza from restaurant and it was paper thin, and fell apart. Still tasted good, but had to eat with knife and fork. While eating, we saw our car that was valeted two hours earlier, drive past the window (we have a very distinctive car - have no idea why they would be driving our car). No free breakfast. For this price, I would expect better. read more

Definitely a very nice and upscale hotel. The neighborhood it is in was very hip. The staff was nice and gave a great feel when I checked in. They even offered beer or wine with flatbread when we checked in. The room was nice and clean along with the bathrooms. They offer to bring you anything you may need that you may have forgotten to bring with. The rooftop bar and grill was nice even though it was mainly enclosed due to the cold weather. This is such a beautiful hotel... the rooftop bar, the rooms, the lobby, and the event hall for a wedding. I have been here multiple times, and every time the service has improved beyond exception. My experiences at the Kimpton Journeyman are the reason Kimptons are my first choice for traveling. My first time at the Kimpton Journeyman in Milwaukee, WI was when the Outsider, the rooftop bar, was first opened. The service was a little slow, underwhelming, and was not equivalent to the price we paid for drinks and food. I kept going back to the Outsider for the phenomenal view, but the service has always spotty. Fast forward two years, and we came back to the Kimpton Journeyman for a wedding. The whole transaction, from the initial phone call to checking out of our room was memorable and above and beyond. We missed the wedding block deadline and all those rooms were spoken for. However, they gave us the same wedding block discount due to some five star customer service. Kimptons are my favorite hotels because they allow dogs with no extra pet fee. It's next to impossible to find a decent hotel that does that. Kimpton Journeyman caters to pets, and I love and respect that. There are dog treats in the lobby next to a chalk board in the shape of a dog. It displays the names of all the dogs residing in the hotel. My heart melt when I saw Kylo's name (dog mom, right here). The rooms are modern and stylish with lots of room (pun intended). Our room was facing a building roof, so the view was the least interesting thing. Other than that, lots of closet space with hangers and his and hers robes. There was a ironing machine, safe, full length mirror, and lots of other amenities. Room service was fast and the food was good. Valet was approx. $31 per day, which is average for downtown Milwaukee. The banquet hall held around 100 people. The staff was efficient and professional during the whole wedding. The bartenders had character and made great drinks. Check out was at 11:00AM--- quick and easy. Handed our room key to the front desk and that was that. I would suggest the Kimpton for the food, the rooftop bar, the service, and the stay. This hotel stands out from the rest. upon checking in I expect exceptional service, such is not what I got. No early check in unless you pay to be upgraded. Waited for my room to be ready well after 3PM. The front desk is not informative, I had to figure out where the roof top access was and what social time was all about. I 've stayed at many Kimptons and received way better treatment not even thank you for being a reward member with their credit card. No snacks in the mini fridge and no upgrades. I come to this chain because of the special treatments and perks. Holiday INN gave me better service in Millwaukee and even an upgrade and that is a lower end hotel. All I hear front the front deskmanage is we don't do that at the location. Well am already spoiled at the other locations across the USA. My next stay will be at the Nashville TN location let's hope I get better informative treatment. read more
