YOU MAY NOT GET THE ROOM YOU PICKED OUT ON THE APP Be cautious that if you book a room on the app before arriving, they might try to put you in a different (worse/noisier) room when you get there, telling you the 'view' is better. This happened to us and I overheard it happening to someone else checking in. The room they chose to put us in was facing the street and extremely noisy. (Not worth the so called 'view'). After unpacking and getting ready for bed and trying to bear it, we decided to ask to switch rooms (to the room we'd originally booked on the app!) We packed up and moved to a room facing the alley, although it still had *some* street noise, it was much better. I think they try to put you in the 'unsellable' rooms in hopes that you'll stick with it. We still had to wear ear plugs and run the A/C at night to drown out some street noise. You might argue that any downtown hotel would have have street noise, but I don't think this older hotel has very good insulation. Read on for the PROS AND CONS... PROS ~Friendly, accommodating staff, really can't fault them. Kathy in the breakfast room is especially friendly. ~Decent location, walkable to the airport bus stop, Avis, Harley Davidson Museum, River Walk, Pabst Mansion. Most attractions were a 15-20 minute walk. For sights further by the lake (i.e. Milwaukee Art Museum), we took a ride share. It would have been more convenient to be closer to the waterfront, but this is reflected in the price. (Which I thought was still expensive!) ~They gave us some drink vouchers to use in the bar as we were celebrating an occasion. That was a nice touch and we enjoyed the atmosphere in the bar and the friendly bar tender. ~Clean. ~Daily housekeeping service. ~We paid for the breakfast buffet as part of our tariff, which was in a dining room with a buffet all but one day (a Monday) when they had us pick off the menu as there weren't enough people to warrant a buffet. Despite the buffet, waitstaff serve your drinks, so factor tip into the price. Try to get a table with Kathy serving you. ~Standard room amenities like iron/board, safe, decent shower, pump toiletries, large TV, mini fridge. ~Three elevators that always came quickly. CONS ~Noisy, especially if your room faces the main road. A lot of noisy motorbikes, sirens, people blaring music. The hotel can't help this, but it didn't seem like the windows were insulated very well, perhaps due to the fact it's an older hotel that's been renovated. I would not recommend staying here on this factor alone. ~Small bathroom. We like to both be in the bathroom getting ready in the morning -- one shaving while the other is putting on make-up, etc. The bathroom was definitely tight. ~When we checked into the first room they put us in (we later switched rooms), the A/C was soooo cold. We couldn't adjust it, so they sent a technician out to fix it. ~When we switched to a different room, the TV didn't work, so a technician was sent out to fix it the next day. ~Older hotel that's been renovated -- you can tell by the popcorn ceilings. ~No pool. ~Still quite expensive for the location/noisy rooms. ~Breakfast is not completely self serve, so tipping is expected. The DoubleTree's location is great and situated near a bunch of quality restaurants and local attractions in the area. While the room was okay for the most part, there was a persistent vomit-like odor near the bed that wasn't resolved despite my request for cleaning. As a result, I had to sleep on the couch on the opposite side of the room and my work schedule made it inconvenient to request a new one. The bathroom was missing some basic amenities such as a soap dish, so I had to leave the bar soap on the counter. The shower's strong water pressure was really nice compared to the flow-restricted showers commonly found in California hotels. The staff experience was mixed. The night reception gentleman (working Monday through Thursday) provided outstanding customer service for his consistently warm and energetic greetings every time I passed. The night valet Martin also deserves special recognition for his outstanding service, sprinting to retrieve my car and showing remarkable attention to detail by noticing my night work schedule and trying to proactively have my car ready. However, the daytime valet service was disappointing. Two valets would unnecessarily retrieve my car together (Maybe one was shadowing the other). During these retrievals, one valet would sit on my belongings in the passenger seat (this happened multiple days). I later discovered after leaving Milwaukee that she damaged my glasses. Given the short distance to the garage, this practice seems unnecessary and showed a lack of respect for guest property. If they noticed stuff on the seat, they could've just walked back. For future improvement, I would suggest better attention to guests' personal belongings and a review of valet procedures. read more

I had a pleasant stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton Milwaukee. The customer service was truly superb, staff were friendly, professional, and attentive throughout my visit especially the valet team! My room was clean and comfortable, meeting all expectations for a satisfactory stay. I also appreciated the quiet atmosphere on my floor, which made it easy to relax and get a good night's rest. One small suggestion for improvement: a fully stocked coffee and tea station in the lobby would be a great addition and very much appreciated by guests on the go. But keep the delicious, chocolate chip "welcome " cookies at the front desk, those are the best! Overall, a solid experience and I'd gladly return. read more

From the moment I pulled up to the valet sign, everything was fantastic. It was 13°F today, yet the valet, Humbero, was fast, efficient, and welcoming. At the front desk, Shenna greeted me with professionalism and kindness and made me feel very welcome. I was given an amazing corner room with a unique, cool layout, and I absolutely loved it. Later, I went downstairs to check out the restaurant. Even though it didn't officially open until 5:00 PM, Christy at the bar graciously took my order for room service. She was wonderful. My food arrived within 15 minutes. When I noticed they had forgotten the sauce and tea, I went down myself, and Christy truly went above and beyond by making sure I had plenty of sauce and serving me great tea. The vibe of this hotel is incredible . I even received a complimentary cookie from the front desk , which was surprisingly delicious since I usually don't even like cookies. Huge shout out to housekeeping for having my room perfectly prepared, and to the kind person mopping the lobby floors when I arrived. This is officially my favorite hotel in Milwaukee so far. I'm already looking forward to staying here again for my next 5K in a few weeks ‍ and anytime I'm in the city. Final shout out to Antonio and Aaron at the front desk as well. This hotel is pretty nice. It is from the 1960's so I take that into consideration. It is in a great location. Right near everything you would need. I like the people who work here. They are real nice and helpful. The refrigerator in our room was not working so Elliott from Maintenance came and brought a new one. He came back again and brought us replacement drinks for what we had in there that wasn't cooling. Very thoughtful. I like the Sun Deck on the second floor. It reminds me of Denver. A nice view of the city and a place to relax and chat, have a drink. This used to be a pool but I guess they didn't get much use from it due to the cold weather most of the year. We had drinks at the bar and they were just ok. I did not care for the breakfast buffet but I don't really enjoy breakfast so I am not a good judge. I did eat the fruit and the cranberry juice was better than usual. This probably would have been a 3 star had it not have been for the outstanding Front Desk and Maintenance staff. read more

I did valet overnight with my brand new truck and it was damaged while on the premise. The General Manager did give me my money back for the stay, but the bill is $2400 for the damage so it doesn't resolve my expense. They denied any responsibility but would not (said they couldn't?) provide any video evidence supporting that claim. I contacted corporate who also didn't do anything about it. To top it off, I've been a diamond member for probably about 10 years. I love Hilton, but was very disappointed with the way this was handled. Won't be staying here again. read more

This is one of our favorite places in Milwaukee to stay when we visit for the Pride Festival. The rooms are kept clean and extremely comfortable, our housekeeper Esmeralda was awesome, accommodating us with anything we needed for the room and very friendly, giving us information on where we could visit. We had an issue with the air conditioner, and they sent George the Hotel engineer and he was super nice and a Military veteran like my wife, so they got to talk about their service in the Marine and Army. The staff at the front desk were super sweet, the only thing that I didn't like that changed was that this year there was no trolley to take us to the Party grounds. I loved the trolley because it kept us safe back and forth from the Party grounds. Another thing I would like to point out is that the Hotel has a deck on the second floor so that you can relax and hang out with family and friends, with a splendid view and a bar. What I don't like is that it doesn't have a bathroom so you must go back and forth to your rooms to use the bathrooms, they should really think of installing one for the guests. read more

Decent Hilton hotel. Security seems like a priority. Clean environment and clean room, towels and sheets. Great pillows even though I bring my own. I didn't care for the desk chair which I use a lot. The faucet was missing an aerator so the water was rushing and splashing all over. Bathroom was a bit small but plenty of counter space. Also I didn't care for the 6th street traffic especially the bus stops around the hotel. Some nice amenities including the fitness center and the 2nd floor sun deck. Valet parking only. IRISH FEST was fantastic and the hotel accommodations were perfect! I was close to the festival and all the people in the hotel were also a part of Irish Fest. The lounge filled with people singing old Irish songs and the front desk allowed us to take over in song. It was unusual for Americans to allow such a thing I loved it felt like I was back in Ireland thank you! Also thank you Kiersten at front desk you checked me in really late! I forgot things in my car (CVS bag) you ran to the car and you were so kind about it all. Kiersten ALWAYS had a smile stayed pleasant and professional I can't say the same about some of the guys working at times seemed put out. I get it it's tiring but Kiersten I'm sure was tired too, she never showed it she was patient and helpful and kind she had the true Irish spirit of hospitality. 5 stars because of Kiersten and housekeeping (the room was very clean) The restaurant was also clean and fast. BLUF: Bottom Line Up Front Why is there no uniformity within the Hilton brand? likewise, why is Hilton giving their elite clients real reasons to entertain other hotel chains? I'm a Hilton Diamond member and I didn't get this status from using their Amex card, I stayed in A LOT of Hilton's, DoubleTree's and a smattering of Hampton's. What's the point of offering a $15 credit for food if your restaurant is closed at midnight and food and beverage from the gift shop doesn't qualify? Likewise, why can't you entrust your front line managers to discount $14 from the gift shop bill and let the back office quibble over it later? Sure, maybe $15 is trivial for some, but I'm willing to bet the front desk managers at Marriott Bonvoy would approve that for their Ambassador elite travelers. read more

After a long day of travel I was happy to pull up to my hotel and check in at the DoubleTree. True to form, I was offered a friendly welcome by Thomas and then given my warm cookie (seriously addictive I could eat a dozen of those) and a bag of popcorn (also my favorite snack it's like they knew I was coming!) and complimentary waters in my room. I hustled up to my room and was surprised at how light and cozy it felt. I had a nice desk to work at while here on business, and a super comfortable bed to lay my head down at night. They have a great selection of channels to switch through (HBO and Showtime included) and a good sized fridge and microwave to heat up leftovers or coffee. The location is great and within walking distance to a lot of amenities which is a plus, and again the staff was friendly. The only thing to note is the bathroom in the room I had was small, but honestly it's not like I hang out in the bathroom hahaha.....so excellent water pressure and a well lit mirror are all I really need. Highly recommend this hotel if you're here for business or pleasure. read more

Great location, friendly staff. Renovated and clean... no. Came here for one night during the week. I booked this hotel based off Yelp reviews, Google and TripAdvisor. Great location- there's a Starbucks next door in the Hilton, a dunkin right across as well, and a restaurant on site. Close to the public market, ball field, and had come as you go valet. Employees were great, the valet guys were very patient with us, the front desk was a smooth check in and gave recommendations, but the hotel is old and out dated. The pillows were cheap and had no support, the bathrooms were very dated and didn't look very clean. We checked for bed bugs... no sign of them. We felt safe in the location, just rooms were dark and dingy. Probably wouldn't come back and would try a newer hotel. read more

We arrived at 4:00 on a Friday night. You couldn't get near the place. The line at the entrance stretched 9 cars long and extended down the street. They have a dedicated garage, but require all guests to use valet parking. That means that everyone must wait until those before them completely unload there car since you will not be able to access it once the valet takes it. It took 35 minutes to reach check in. Upon expressing exasperation the clerk simply respond, "We only have two valets working today" ... factually true, but hardly satisfying - and definitely not a justification for inconveniencing ALL of their guests. The room was very basic and incredibly small ( you can't avoid bumping into the furniture) but at least it was clean. The heating system was an old fashion space heater type that was adjustable, but it took almost 2 hours to raise the temperature one degree. read more

Four nights here and it was good. A quiet and nicely sized room on the tenth floor with a comfortable bed with all the amenities I would expect from a proper hotel - large television with a bunch of channels, free Internet, a comfortable work space, a bar and restaurant, and a very friendly helpful staff. And of course, the free Doubletree cookie! Here are my only complaints. The work desk didn't have enough outlets. The well gin in the bar was pretty awful. The water pressure in the shower was very high, no matter what time of the morning I tried it. Parking is expensive. Uh... that's pretty much it. As a Hilton Gold elite, I get a couple of breakfast coupons. The buffet breakfast isn't bad. I wouldn't pay for it though. If you're of a like mind, there's a Starbucks across the street in the Hilton. There's also a taxi stand over there if you want to avoid the parking charges. FYI... a taxi from the airport to here is about $40. The convention center (currently called the Delta Center, soon to be the Wisconsin Center) is a block away. There are also plenty of restaurants within a couple of blocks. read more

I had a pretty bad slip and fall accident. The outside ground surface is a slipping hazard. The employees are well aware and expressed that to me. Even with that knowledge, they did not have any signs outside indicating such. Not only did I hurt myself, but I also broke my phone. The GM asked condescending "What would you like us to do?" I replied that I need my phone replaced to get home as I need my flight itinerary, Uber, ID, etc. He offered to drop me off at an ATT store and on the ride there, advised me the best they can do is credit my for 1 night ($136 value). My phone cost $1100 to replace. I told him that wasn't acceptable, his response "What if you fell on the city street, what would you do?" I wasn't even granted a late checkout while I was replacing my phone. Management followed me when I returned to the hotel and waited outside my door for me to pack and leave the room. As sat in the lobby doing work before I called my Uber, I was made to feel very uncomfortable with dirty looks, etc. Not to mention they were severely understaffed during my stay with a sold out hotel my group was using for a convention. It took an hour to get a sandwich. I reached out to corporate, they were also zero help. I'm a Hilton Honors member and probably spent $3K in the last 2 months at their properties. Absolute garbage. The service here is unbeatable! Truly, this type of front desk welcome really makes you remember them. I could not say one negative thing about this hotel. The rooms were clean and modern and the location is fabulous. We walked dowtown the first day and toured around on foot and then walked the other direction to tour the university the next. (Marquette) All entertainment, restaurants, etc are walkable from here, plus they have reasonable valet service. We will not soon forget the gentlemen at the desk! Loved our stay! read more

Nice hotel with Hilton standards: the traditional warm DoubleTree cookies at check in along with bags of popcorn plus complimentary water and mints in the room. The front desk staff (Kenneth, the supervisor at night) was friendly and attentive, showing real interest in you and making you feel welcome. The room was spacious and clean with comfortable beds. We were pleased with the room, however I will make the following suggestions/comments: 1) the bathroom was on the small side, 2) there were not enough outlets/ports to charge your electronics, 3) there is not a coffee station to make coffee easily as the coffee maker is inside a cupboard with no accessible outlet to plug it in. read more

The front desk welcome was over the top. We were just in town for a Bucks game so didn't see much of the hotel besides the room and bar but both were exceptional for the overnight price. We had to get back to Chicago for an early morning flight and the valet had the car warmed up when we needed it. The cookies, water, and other perks were a plus. read more

My husband, cousin and I stayed two nights a room with two queen beds. Although we appreciated the nice toiletry kit, the cleanliness, the comfortable beds and the quietness of our room, the experience was not completely comfortable. There is just not enough space to put three suitcases and the three people in my party had to move around with difficulty (we are petite to midsize people). The other disappointment factors was that we did not have complimentary breakfast and the free internet service was slow and choppy. I was in Milwaukee for a business trip last week and stayed 5 nights at this hotel. It was about a 20 minute drive from the airport and located right across the street from the Wisconsin City Center where my conference was being held. Check-in went smoothly and true to Double Tree tradition, we got a warm chocolate chip cookie. They were able to assign my colleagues and I rooms that were next to each other. That was a nice touch! The room was spacious- two double beds, a large dresser, desk with chair, another comfy chair, microwave, and mini fridge. The bathroom was a good size and the water pressure in the shower was great. The water got hot immediately and the temperature remained constant. They offer 2 complimentary water bottles in each room- this is only a one time amenity so don't expect more bottled water during your stay. I'm one who doesn't need or want housekeeping to come to my room daily. The hotel has a policy that after 3 days, they will enter your room to take out the trash and put in fresh towels. The room I was in was very quiet, I didn't hear any noise from outside or the hallway. It was easy to adjust the temperature of the air conditioning to make it a comfortable temperature. There are 3 elevators so the wait was never very long. I was on the 3rd floor and there was an ice machine and vending machine near the elevators. The lobby had multiple seating areas and a small snack shop. The hotel bar and restaurant stayed open until midnight and each night we had a different bartender. They were all friendly and happy to share tips about the city. When there was a drunk guy who was starting to bother our group, the bartender was polite yet firm in addressing him and we were thankful that she stepped in to help. The bathroom near the bar has a built in hand sanitizer dispenser in the bathroom door! Brilliant touch! I have no complaints about this hotel or our stay. The location, quality of the room, quality of the hotel, and attentiveness of the staff makes this someplace I'd recommend. read more
