When I first moved to Dover, I was told this was the best burger place in town and that couldn't be more true. The specials menu is ever changing so there's always a chance to try something new, but if you're not a fan of the pre-crafted items, you can build your own burger to perfection. The meat can't be compared to other places because it's SO fresh and SO unique. The fries are crispy and the bartenders offer a generous pour with the fabulous list of cocktails. We were in the area and looking for a place to eat so as usual, we checked Yelp. When we entered 55 we thought it was a really cute place. It was a Saturday night so we had a rather long wait ( over 35 minutes) and there wasn't much seating for those who wait and the small bar was already mobbed .If i had a suggestion it would be to add a bigger waiting area. Other than that it was a really cute, comfortable place to dine. After 30 minutes of waiting I decided to try a local microbrew so I headed to the bar where I was immediately waited on by a really personable bartender. He took the time to explain to me how the beer they had from 16 Mile Brewery out of Georgetown tasted and he offered me a sample. I was sold! To me he was engaging and that is great customer service. Our server for dinner was equally personable. Menu: - Bronto Burger which my honey loved. It contained 50% more freshly ground-chuck than standard burger. - Fried chicken platter which was 3 legs fried with a very tasty bbq rub. It was tender and juicy. I didn't know what to expect when I pulled up. The location is not what you would expected a restaurant of this caliber to be at. The service was prompt and friendly. It took a minute to decide what I wanted since there were many good choices offered. I decided on a sandwich and side. The hand cut fries were well cooked and seasoned and the sandwich was worth every penny. From the roll to the filling everything was fresh and well flavored and a great serving. Started with an appetizer of the " pimento cheese ", or some may say, southern pate , served with crackers . This is my favorite low country food , when I go to Charleston, and it was just as good as "The Holy City. " This gooey deliciousness was pungent, and definitely homemade . I didn't need the crackers, I could have eaten the pimento cheese by the spoonful. The French fries that come with the burgers are just like you find at the beach, on the boardwalk, including the malt vinegar. We split the vegetarian Portobello burger and Santa Fe burger . Both were good burgers , however, the Santa Fe was slightly better , perhaps a personal preference, but much prefer sautéed spinach, on a Portobello burger. We probably wouldn't have ordered had we known the spinach wasn't cooked. The Santa Fe had an amazing explosion of taste ...juicy , sweet, tangy, and crispy all at the same time. The homemade root beer BBQ sauce , onion confetti, bacon ,and cheddar cheese, on the Santa Fe , was so- so yummy. They have some interesting choices of burgers like the " Willie Nelson" or " Elvis." You will be entirely to full to order dessert, but curiosity had me when I heard cupcakes, most especially carrot cake, so I had to order a cupcake to go. The carrot cake cupcake was crazy good, insanely moist , delicately spiced and delicious. They offer two other cupcakes but I tuned them out and only focused on the carrot cake choice. Karen, the bartender , is a lovely host and extremely informative. I enjoyed RAR'S "house phone" smelling of grapefruit and tropical fruit, a lot of punch for low ABV 5% , Loads of craft beer on tap and bottles. The atmosphere is cool and the server I had most recently has been from restaurant to restaurant as they have closed down since Covid. Great to see a familiar place. My husband had a 55 burger, our daughter had fish and chips. I ordered the pulled pork that was dead before I got it. Very dry and tasted like saw dust. They changed it out for a French dip sandwich which was extremely dry too and tasteless. Au jus sauce was tasteless. My daughters fish was dry and when she tried to complain about it the manager got nasty and told her end pieces will be dry. It was the actual whole fish not the ends we were upset about and she wouldn't take it off our bill. Husbands sandwich wasn't much better. Will not recommend this place. Wish I could rate it a zero. The restaurant will surprise you based on the location and plain looks on the outside. The menu offers a long list of exquisitely described gourmet burgers, sandwiches, appetizers and other accompaniments. I ate one of the many specials, that was elegantly described by my server. It was a turkey panini that included spinach and avocado and tomato. It was very fresh, tasty and made to perfection. My wife and I visited your establishment on 3/19/2024. We were met with very poor "SERVICE". We sat down and waited to be served. However, when the waitress came, we were met with her back. As she turned to the table opposite us and waited on them First and e weren there a good TEN minutes before them. So we politely GOT UP AND LEFT THE ESTABLISHMENT. Vowing never to return. We are AFRICAN Americans and of course the family of 4 were white. It was our fault because we were the only African American Americans In the establishment at that time. NEVER AGAIN. I really love the burgers here. I had the lunch counter burger w sweet potato fries. Delish !!! Hubby had the bronto burger, his was a little bland. We ordered the anchovy fries. They were good but I ll try a different appetizer next time. Maddie our bartender made yummy Tito's and sweet teas. She also had us sample her chocolate martini yummy!! The hostess was a snobby b with no good reason if you know whet I'm saying but we didn't have to deal with her except for to seconds. She probably won't last because of her charming personality. But service was not consistent - I know all the restaurants are having staffing issues - but we were always trying to flag down the server and it took so long and it took away from the quality of the food which was excellent. It is no exaggeration to say that Restaurant 55 serves the best burgers in Dover. I've been here 5 times now and every time I get the "Willie Nelson" burger, a high quality beef burger topped with bbq sauce, jalapeño relish, and cheese. I'm sure the rest of the menu is great but I like the Willie Nelson too much to try anything else! Restaurant 55 is a popular spot, so if you get there after 5 it is going to be packed. This isn't a problem since they are really good at keeping things moving, however it is VERY loud when the venue gets busy. I'd say the noise level during peak times is the only drawback to this restaurant. Don't plan on having any significant conversations with the rest of your party, the best bet is to enjoy the fantastic food and then head somewhere else if you want to talk. read more

My family and I love this place! It's a small town gem. Their burgers are phenomenal along with everything else on the menu. They post daily specials on their Facebook page, I'd recommend checking those out. They often include burgers but sometimes include other options such as vegetarian choices. Turkey croquettes and chicken teriyaki are a couple of the other specials I've seen. Basically all you need to know is even if you're not a burger person this place has something for you. One of my favorite burger places whenever I visit Dover! My best friend is stationed here so I was introduced to this place by her, but now everytime I come visit we come here to eat. The onion rings are delicious! They are big and comes with a perfect amount of batter and onion. I built my own burger this time, and I might stick to that from now on. I also asked for jalapeño and 1000 island dressing on the side and the waiter came out with my order the way it was supposed to be! I also recommend the lemonade here.
