Over the course of my stay, I ate here many times with my family. Meals came with tasty garlic bread and a small refreshing house salad. I divided up the food reviews by meal category. Breakfast Omelette- was great. I had tomato, onions, no peppers, and bacon. You can choose from adding bacon or ham. Decent but not mind blowing. Pancakes- you get multiple pancakes in the stack. They were nice and fluffy. I did wish there was some more whipped cream on the plate, which are the dollops next to it in my picture. It came with a little plastic container of syrup. Spanish omelette- had like 0 eggs in it, I expected an omelette with potatoes but it was just potatos and tortilla. Not bad just not expected. Appetizers and sides Potatoes- good Mofongo- pretty good. A little dry but I think it maybe is supposed to be like that. Great with the chicken and rice stew. Bean soup- the rice was salted, which I did not know. I put the rice in the soup to tone down the salt, but I accidentally made it even saltier. The only appetizer I would not get again if they continue to salt the rice. Beans and rice- good Lunch and dinner meals Red snapper - good, came with a side of your choice. I chose beans and rice. Rice was good and fluffy. The beans were tasty. The snapper came with a rich sauce and some vegetables. Fish Tacos- very good. I enjoyed this very much with a green local hot sauce that came if you asked for hot sauce. I would get this again if I came back. This was on the bar menu I think. Nachos- came in a big portion. Very large and good. Salad- ok. Rice and chicken stew- good. Tasted very homey and comforting like something grandma would make. There were chicken bones that you have to watch out for though. Pasta primavera- based on googling primavera pasta beforehand, I was expecting a light pasta entree, but this was smothered in butter and cheese, which was very heavy and not at all what I expected. It was tasty though, but very rich. Drinks Strawberry frappe- (non alcoholic version) tasted like an elevated slushie. It tasted like it was made from a strawberry syrup instead of fresh strawberries. Pina colada- (non alcoholic version) a good pina colada. read more

The restaurant at Hotel Confresi has one of the best views around, truly unbeatable and the main reason I've been back a few times. Sitting right by the water with the waves splashing up at you is epic, especially around sunset. The setting alone feels like it should be an unforgettable dining experience. Unfortunately, the service has consistently been unfriendly and unwelcoming, which really takes away from the atmosphere. The food has been marginal at best--fine, but not memorable, and not quite what you'd expect given the location and potential of the space. It's worth stopping by for the view (and the waves) alone, but I wouldn't come here specifically for the food or service. With friendlier staff and better food, this place could be something really special. read more

I'd give it a 3.5. We stayed at the hotel, so we had drinks and ate 2 breakfasts and 2 dinners here. The drinks were good and reasonably priced. We found the meals inconsistent. One day's breakfast was excellent, 2 days later we had to send it back and have it remade. Same with the dinner- the first night we loved the food. The next night I thought it was just ok. Now, admittedly I was really about the drinks when I was there. So this is more about the service, which was pitch perfect. The bartenders were great! Very friendly and fun! But also really quick. The pina colada were very well made (muy fuerte) and the shots came as quick as fast as we could shoot. The pinchos were perfect for breaking up the liquor. I also had the Pirata-their signature drink. It was pretty good but the cinnamon kinda threw off the flavor. Breakfast was good, It is continental style with fruits, cereal, bread, meats, juice, coffee, etc. They all have an ala carte items to order. A great location that's seriously hampered by subpar food. TL;DR Fire the chef(s) responsible. We stayed at Villa Cofresi (a great local resort hotel!) for 3 nights and since the restaurant is right downstairs by the ocean with a FABULOUS view, we tried eating there a total of 3 times. All 3 times, we unfortunately had to SEND AN ITEM BACK... and I think that should already tell you that something's definitely wrong here. First - we had dinner the day we arrived at Rincon. We ordered drinks - wife had coconut water off the ... actual coconut and I ordered their bar's signature cocktail - the Pirate Special. It was quite strong with rum but refreshing and went well with the delicious jumbo shrimp cocktail. We ordered 1 lobster in scampi sauce entree and that is where things quickly went south. The "scampi" sauce hit me like a 18-wheeler with super strong taste of alcohol and garlic. It seemed like the chef forgot to evaporate some wine and just left it there with 50% too much garlic, and forgot butter and lemon. And the lobster was like chewing rubber, and portion (see the pic) was pathetic as well. The basket of bread and the rice & bean side was delicious in contrast, and side caesar salad was normal. When asked, our super nice server apologized and took it back. We waited a good 45 minutes for the replacement before calling him again and he, a transplant from the US (won't use his name for anonymity as he spoke frankly) said he had just cancelled it because the chef "doesn't know what he's doing... and would make the exact same thing with overcooked lobster anyway"(!!!) We made the mistake of ordering the mushroom with a younger waiter earlier while waiting, and later our waiter told us that's "canned mushroom" which made sense cuz it was just ... not good. So our server took the entree off the menu but still kept mushroom which we left 90% untouched, on the bill. Service had that old-fashioned good feel but I felt that communication def. could've been much better. Second - the next morning, thinking last night must've been a fluke we decided to try eating breakfast. Another gent graciously took our order - a breakfast burrito and fruit platter with coffee. Coffee was not very good - was like those cheap ground coffee, but it's okay as we didn't expect much. Breakfast burrito was good, but the Fruit Platter... alas, after a bite of decent pineapple, I noticed a green mold on one of the cut melons. When I called his attention to it, he was shocked and sent it back, and took it off the menu when requested. Ok, at this point I was like 'you've gotta be kidding me.' Third - on our last day we decided to have quick lunch as we were checking out because we had finished our grueling diving certification that morning and was badly in need of fuel. We stayed in the AC'd indoor room where a pleasant young lady took our order. We got churrasco quesadilla and caesar salad, cuz, what could possibly go wrong with these? Alas, upon the first bite we realized that the quesadilla was WAY too salty(!) so again, after trying hard to somehow make it work, we ended up sending it back and taking it off the bill - something our server seemed to really agree on doing. So that's my recap of the 3 times I dined at the hotel while staying. In a word, I'd say it was "beguiling" because every aspect of our experience at the hotel was great: it was a local gem with a lot of history, extremely clean despite older look & feel, and outstanding servers all around, but the FOOD... there was something seriously wrong here to have the food be so consistently off-the-mark. Even for a hotel restaurant in a 2-star hotel at a tier-2 city Rincon, c'mon now... there is someone in the kitchen cooking when he/she really shouldn't be. And to be clear, I am NOT one of those self-entitled, super-picky diners who act like they're above all others and send back food & complain regularly - I just don't do that... but I could not NOT do it because food was really that bad. So I would recommend everyone staying at the hotel to look elsewhere - there are so many great dining options available (yes, some of those with views might be a bit difficult to book some nights!) so save yourselves the trouble until the hotel decides to be serious about the taste and quality of their food. ADVICE TO HOTEL: FIRE THE CHEF(S). HE/SHE IS MAKING THE REST OF THE RESTAURANT STAFF LOOK BAD! read more

This is an easy review! 5 star service, 5 star setting in front of a beautiful beach with amazing food and great drinks! I went with my in laws, two young sons and wife. We all ordered different food dishes and not one person had a complaint about anything. The table split the most amazing nachos we've had in a while with a combo of beef & chicken. I was full from my plate long before I was done but couldn't stop eating! We all shared food from each other's plates and there was still food left over in the end. I'll never forget that fill of food for good reasons... They allow dining for people who aren't guest at the resort and free parking. Highly recommend anyone to try it out. The weather was turning the day we went and we opted to sit indoors with the cool A/C where we still had a view. The staff were wonderful and treated everyone to great service as far as I could see. When you arrive they give you a wristband because at the entrance of the parking lot because the restaurant is within a hotel. The restaurant was beautiful and so was the view of the ocean. Breathtaking! We tried mofongo for the first time. I ordered it with lobster and my husband had it with chicken. Good sized portions and great flavor. I had my heart set on Red Snapper but there was no rd Snapper fish available during my stay. The chicken is prepared the traditional local way and well seasoned. Fried sweet plantain is a must and and a perfect accompaniment to any meal. The rice and beans were salty and I was not aware until I saw, there was bacon pieces in it. read more

We had a lovely dinner and a lovely time here during our family trip in December. We first came to try their pirato special drink and then returned later for dinner. The drink is a strong one! Reminded me of a lighter version of eggnog, possibly bc of the cinnamon in it. The servers were very nice and attentive and the food was delicious and decently priced. For dinner, we ordered the filet mignon, the whole red snapper, and the filet with onions for entrees, a bottle of wine, side of rice and beans and 2 desserts - cheesecake and coconut cheese flan. Everything was great. My husband said it was the best flan he's ever had. Overall this place did great for ambiance, service, value, and quality. We would definitely return! read more

This place was INCREDIBLE! We got to this side of the island late and picked this spot for dinner. We got a spot along the edge of the ocean, it was a beautiful ambiance. The pirates special is a must have- a rum drink in a coconut. Ask them to cut the coconut for you afterwards, so delicious. The food was amazing, we did the jumbo shrimp scampi. It came with a lot of food- rice and beans, salad, and bread, perfect for sharing. I only wish we went in the daytime to better see the ocean (we'll likely go back). The staff were incredibly friendly and eager to give recommendations to food and events going on while we are here. 10/10 experience!! read more

I've stayed at this hotel several times over the years but this trip I rented a house just down the beach from the hotel. In the past my wife and I would walk there for dinner or cocktails. This trip was different. There Covid policy has been escalated so that depending on who's on duty you may or may not be allowed in. Once I was allowed in by showing my negative test and getting my temperature checked. Then a couple days later a very rude person said no one but guests are allowed in. This is after PR announced that all restrictions are going to be lifted in 2 days. This used to be a friendly place but I can't recommend it anymore. This was a great place to get lunch and just relax. They have a large outdoor dining area that's covered so you can enjoy the warm weather even if it starts raining. Their pirate special is 22 oz and so reasonably priced, and comes in a coconut!! Great deal. Their food was like comfort food to me - we got a yummy burrito and quesadilla. One of the better dishes is a chicken and rice stew that is on the dinner menu. The cocktails are great and the servers are very nice. We came here on Monday dinner as the rating is high but left disappointed and not worth the money spent. Corn sticks was the best part of the meal as we waited over forty minutes plus for the entree. The waiter did come by after thirty five minutes to say "I asked the kitchen for a favor to push your food next" and mentioned dessert "it's on on me". I had the shrimp mofongo which look like a "dome or big bowl" mashed potatoes in a broth with six shrimp-bland. He never checked back until we finished our entrees (busy entertaining a party of six for over ten minutes as I tried to get his attention with eyes contact but never once he looks in our direction and had to flag down the busser to say we want our check. Once the waiter came back and i told him "shrimp mofongo was not good" his replied "oh". He did mentioned he was allergic to shrimp but never had any guest complained, hum guest I'm the first. Want to leave quickly so didn't bother about dessert. The hotel was packed with guests staying there and established their name but food was very poor for the prices charged. I'm leaving this review so potential guest is aware and know before hands to spend their hard earned money elsewhere. read more

Wow. Managed to get a small table looking over the ocean even though we did not stay at the resort. ALL the staff were incredibly lively, friendly and helpful. Food was OFF THE CHARTS good. Every course was extremely well-prepared, very flavorful and crafted with obviously experienced hands. It was so good, I tipped the kitchen staff. I spent as much on tips as the entire meal and would do it again. Well-run place worthy of it's noted place asa one of the best finer-dining establishments in Rincon. We ate because it's part of the hotel. It's in a nice spot by the water and the service is a little hit or miss. You can't order their pirate special drink to be less sweet because "that's the recipe". But the main thing was the food - if you get the lobster mofongo expect rubbery pieces of seafood that might have been lobster but had definitely been frozen. The mofongo itself was hard and bland, and felt like it had been made a long while ago. There's an excellent Argentinian steak place a 5 min walk from here (back out the way you came) so do yourself a favor and eat there instead. read more
