I really enjoyed our dinner at Restaurant Constance and will definitely return! The atmosphere is cozy and feels like sitting in a close friend's home. The service was great and everyone was friendly. The menu read like new American with a hint of Asian fusion, which was right up my alley. The 90 min turnover made the meal feel rushed and their espresso machine was down. What we ordered: - oysters: wasn't a fan of the herb mignonette but the crackers were unique - jalapeno waffle: could've done without the pimento cheese and thought the portion was small for the price, but it was delicious. - fried clams: really good - scallop entree: tasty but nothing out of the ordinary - lemongrass noodle bowl: it was fine but didn't feel like they nailed the flavors. Could've been more complex but fell flat - yuzu semifreddo: the yuzu could've come through more strongly but it was still a nice, light dessert I think they have an opportunity to pull stronger flavors though the food and take more risks, but overall recommend RC. read more

I wish I could give this 10 stars!! WOW. This has been on my list for a while and it not only did not disappoint, it exceeded my already high expectations! The restaurant is an intimate, 10 table restaurant with the most lovely vibe. Modern yet warm and welcoming with lovely staff at the front! Our waitress was so knowledgeable about the entire food and wine menus and made great suggestions. I truly cannot get over this food - the Korean chicken lettuce wraps, the hamachi, the beef short ribs over the most insane risotto with black rice, the wagyu steak with unreal jalapeno potatoes, the strawberry pot pie and the chocolate dessert (can't remember the name) were all truly epic. I don't think I've eaten that much in one seating in a long time but I couldn't stop. We tried several of the wines (bourdeaux blanc, gamay, Tempranillo and Sangiovese) and all were exquisite. Truly cannot recommend this restaurant more!! There is parking right outside of the restaurant and around the side of the building as well. Went for Tuesday night $65 deal. The pimento cheese waffles and the chocolate miso tart were amazing - everything else was just ok for the price. The serving of the sashimi was incredibly small (one bite), the lamb was overcooked, and the beef short rib did not live up to expectations (a little dry - very little sauce). The mashed potatoes were decent. Overall - smaller portions (not sure if it was because it was their $65 dollar night) and you can get better food somewhere else for the same price. The server came over 20 times during our meal - which sounds attentive but got a little intrusive when she kept telling us what her favorite things on the menu were and interrupting our conversation. When we asked about the bill the male server was very pushy about the accuracy of the price and that each refill of soda was $3 (not typical in the US and they also didn't inform us of that so we ended up spending $15 on soda alone). Would not go back - which is a pity because we were so excited! read more

I've been a huge fan of Chef Sam Diminich's food ever since I ordered from his meal delivery service during COVID and so excited he has his own restaurant now. Restaurant Constance is located in the Wesley Heights area across from Midnight Mulligan and Summit Seltzer. As soon as reservations were opened, I made one for Friday Feb 3rd. Parking was not an issue since they have a parking lot. The restaurant interior itself is cozy and intimate with a large window where you can see Chef Diminich cook. I went with three friends and we were immediately greeted with friendly faces and were seated by the large window peering into the kitchen. Jakia was our server and she was really sweet and patient with all our questions. She was very attentive and everything was wonderful from start to finish. I was excited to see that they had a list of Non-Alcoholic drink options since I do not drink alcohol. As a table, we ordered several dishes to try. There are dishes in my photos that my friends ordered that I didn't get to try but I'm assuming they LOVED it because they cleaned their plates. These are the ones I did get to taste: - NA drink - For the Crown - Yumm! I tried my best to take baby sips to savor it instead of chugging it all! - 1/2 Dozen West Coast Oysters - Super fresh and loved the Yuzu Cucumber Mignonette. - Smoked Chicken Lettuce Wraps - Delicious! I enjoyed eating each one in one bite to taste all the flavors at once. - Marinated Scallops - The scallops were so tender and the grits full of flavor that my mouth is watering as I type this. - New York Strip - Juicy and really enjoyed the unique twist to the collard greens! The mashed potatoes were so silky too. Loved it! - Black Sesame Panna Cotta - We had a difficult time deciding what to order for dessert but so glad we chose this one. This was light and packed full of black sesame flavor. I'm a HUGE fan of black sesame. - Chocolate-Pistacio Torte - Super chocolatey and rich! A wonderful dessert to share. This was a good experience! We were very excited to be able to get a table in this intimate restaurant. Our server, Sarah, did a very good job walking us through the menu and making food suggestions. I think we were a bit surprised when we found out the drink menu was NA. While we respect the focus being on the food, I look forward to the opportunity to order wine or beer the next time we visit. There was a selection of NA "cocktails" available but we chose to stick with water. We chose many starters, two entrees and tried two desserts. There's a small circle of Charlotte restaurants that I truly consider to be World Class, and Constance is indisputably among them. I went into Restaurant Constance with very high expectations, as it had been highly recommended by some friends. My wife and I also had been to Counter a few times before, which was in the same space before Restaurant Constance came in so we've had a number of good experiences in that space. My expectations were exceeded in every way. Without making this too long-winded, the highlights for me were the service, the jalapeno cornbread waffles, KFC lettuce wraps, scallops, short rib, and dessert. Oh wait, that was like the entire meal. I would go back in a heartbeat and could even order everything entirely different and I'm sure it would be just as good because everything we saw come out of the kitchen looked amazing. Chef Sam made the rounds a couple of times to see how things were going in the dining room and was very friendly. Kudos to him for doing so. The menu is solid, experimental and unique, which makes for a fun night. My biggest regret (and reason I am giving three stars) is that I ordered the scallops. Hate to say it but they were very overcooked, and as result, tasted pretty bad. Didn't eat much of the dish. I wish I had ordered something else because otherwise it was a cool place. The staff were wonderful and provided great service. It was my girlfriends birthday and they gave her a handwritten note from the whole team, had a very personable feel. Our dinner club visited in March and I'm so late with this post. The menu rotates but looks like these items are still available or return when available again. This restaurant is simple and has understated art. Your eyes really focus on the food and your company not the colors, lights or excessive extras. There is one large TV showing pictures and video of the farms that contribute to your meal. The kitchen has a glass window to view all food preparation. Parking- I recommend carpool, or car service as the parking is limited and there are several popular businesses on Thrift St. It is available but you may have to circle the block or walk a little on more popular evenings. On to the food ... every dish was an artful and beautiful. I shared plates with a friend so we could enjoy more of the menu. Smoked Chicken Tacos- ate out of this world very good. You have several flavors that transition from Smokey to a slight bite. Lobster and Beet Salad- I love lobster and beets and who would think all these flavors would pair so well?? it was so good. I wished it was a larger serving. It was served on asparagus with an abundance of flavors, whipped goat cheese (amazing!!) and a vinaigrette. Short Ribs- the balsamic glazed with onion, greens, mushrooms and bites of carrot was delicious served on top of a serving of perfectly creamed potatoes. We couldn't place the other flavor until we read the menu description and realized it was the celery root in the purée. This entree was my favorite. Osso Bucco- this was my friend's favorite. The serving was huge and we could not finish it!! When the sever set the plate down, we both gasped "this is a lot of food"!! Phenomenal restaurant and incredible food!! We have been fans since Your Farms Your Table, and I am so happy we visited Restaurant Constance. We had a fabulous birthday celebration! Truly an inventive and delicious meal from beginning to end. We had the tuna crudo for appetizer and it was a savory and sweet combination of flavors. Tuna and pear in a juxtaposition of texture and flavors that made my tastebuds happy. Then we shared pork belly dumplings that had incredible chile sauce, just smoky and delicious and complimented the meat. I love these dumplings!! Possibly my favorite thing!! Then for dinner, I had the short ribs and my husband had the duck. I had read the reviews about how delicious and tender the short ribs are and they were outstanding. The combination of the hoisin sauce with a hint of sweetness made it fabulous. My husband enjoyed the duck and liked the flavors and the sauce. Dessert was chocolate black sesame torte and it was scrumptious with a caramel layer under chocolate and a sweet cream sauce. The service was excellent and I love the relaxing, intimate atmosphere. Our table was near the glass kitchen door so we could see the fascinating food presentation. I am thrilled to eat Chef Sam's fabulous food and I cannot wait to return again!! Fantastic small restaurant with rotating farm to table menu. Service was top notch as well. My wife and I had the tomato burrata Caprese salad, the ingredients were fresh and the dressing was delicious. We also ordered the scallops and short ribs and both dishes were very tasty. My only complain is that the grits that came with the spare ribs was delicious but a bit cold compared to the rest of the dish. Also there is no place to wait for a table or bar to have a drink so don't show up before your reservation time... there are plenty of bars around this area to kill time. I've been eagerly waiting for Restaurant Constance to open, so when I I saw the announcement, I rushed over - and I'm so glad I did. It has an organic vibe, full of textures, and artwork that subtly tells the story behind the concept. The playlist was full of soft rock classics from artists like Fleetwood Mac, and the service was immaculate. But let's discuss the food - because that's what we really care about. The menu is seasonally driven, using fresh ingredients from local farms, and it's absolutely spectacular. They also offer a non-alcoholic beverage program. It's unique and very thought provoking. I started with Kumamoto oysters that were served with a yuzu, cucumber granita. The granita was so refreshing against the creamy flavor of the oysters! The Tuna Crudo was served with soba noodles, hoisin, crispy ginger, sesame, and shiso. It was super fresh and bright with acid and sweetness from the citrus and ginger that faded into sesame. This was wonderful. The Kale Salad was made with parsnip fondue, Asian pear, candied pecans, sweet potato croutons, and a white balsamic vinaigrette. This was unbelievable! Wow. Sweet and savory with floral notes from the pear. Super tender kale. Perfect mix of textures. Wow. I audibly hummed "mmm" as I ate this - at least 4 times. The Cashew hummus was made with crispy chickpeas, daikon, shigoko, kohlrabi, house made Naan, and olive oil. The hummus was super creamy with a medley of flavors throughout, which contrasted nicely against the char of the naan. The Jalapeño cornbread waffles were crispy and full of Jalapeño flavor, without being overly spicy. The cheddar and red pepper jelly was a very nice compliment. The Marinated Scallops were served on top of koji grits, with a preserved tomato dashi. This was my favorite entree. The scallops were large and sweet, cooked to a perfect medium rare, with a gorgeous crust. Easily the best scallops in Charlotte. The Short Rib was served with sweet potato fondue, Napa smoked onion, and red wine jus. The short rib is so rich and luxurious; it just melts in your mouth. And the red wine jus is nothing short of spectacular. The NY Strip Steak with collard greens, bacon, leek, potatoes, and shitake jus was an umami bomb to say the least. Cooked to a perfect medium rare, the seasoning was heavenly. I'm not normally a collard greens guy either, but I'd happily eat these any day. For dessert, I tried the Chocolate-Pistachio Torte and the 70% chocolate giant macaron, both of which are made by Chef Sam of @wentworth_and_fenn . They were both rich and decadent, and a wonderful way to end the meal. I have to say, I wouldn't change a single thing about this restaurant. It is the restaurant that Charlotte so desperately needed. It might just be the best meal I've eaten in Charlotte - so don't wait. Run to book a reservation. Best of all, it's local farm to table - so all ingredients are from farms within a 60 mile radius. What we ordered: Tuna crudo - probably my fave appetizer! Jalapeño cornbread waffles with cheese and pepper jelly Creamy cashew hummus with homemade naan - I cannot describe how amazing this hummus and naan was. Local to the west side of Charlotte, this newer restaurant is here to make a big impact in a small space. Be prepared to have a ton of waitstaff eager to visit your table more times than you can count. They really want the experience to be great, but I personally prefer less intrusions during my meal. Some of the things I think they do well are: wide variety of cocktails and alcoholic beverages to select from, plenty of parking and seating, and very clean dining area. I also loved how the kitchen is very visible behind a solid glass wall for food prep transparency. A few things I think they could improve on are: lack of vegetarian / vegan options, the lighting is WAY too bright for the ambiance, the movie that is playing on their TV is hyped up too much by the waitstaff (I'm there for the food not so much the slideshow of how the food was acquired; and most folks are on their phones at the table anyway), and the lack of outside seating takes away from the ability to enjoy the food when the weather is nice outside. The main dish food was well seasoned but the cashew hummus was a little flavorless in our opinion. I'd love to see more EVOO in the hummus and perhaps a few green olives as garnish to elevate the dish. We were visiting Charlotte and was invited to have dinner with a group at this restaurant, and it did not disappoint! It's a dainty and cute place, so not a lot of table space and you will need to make a reservation to guarantee a spot. The service was great. Everyone who was working there came by often to make sure we were doing okay and refilling drinks. Very friendly people! The food was awesome. Despite the menu being one page, there was still a wide variety of foods that we all tried. Everything was presented beautifully and there wasn't a dish I didn't like. The dessert was also bomb. I didn't take pictures since it was more of a business-like dinner, but I promise you the pics on this app shows it super well. Restaurant Constance: A Love Letter I'm still at a loss for words on the meal I had here last night. There's good. There's excellent. And then there's Restaurant Constance - almost a verb on it own to describe whatever deliciousness comes after "excellent". I wish I could give more than 5 stars because 5 doesn't do it justice. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, was nothing short of superb and immaculate. Chef Sam's backstory is so inspirational which only enhanced the experience and warmed my little former social worker heart. In short, get your resys here asap. Ambience: clean aesthetic with a welcoming, industrial vibe. Typically not words you'd put together but it works. The place is beautiful and every detail seemed intentional. I loved the dinnerware. I think I saw on IG that Chef Sam sourced these from a local artist specializing in pottery - they're amazing so be careful and don't break them haha. Also loved the gallery wall of album covers from classic rock artists - made me nostalgic of my childhood and the posters my dad had when I was little. Food: that's what we're here for, right? The reviews don't lie. 5 stars on both Yelp and Google at the time of this post. I don't even know words to describe how impeccable the food was. We ordered a variety of things: east coast oysters, kale salad, lobster & beet salad, short rib, and scallops. We also ordered 3 desserts like the fat asses we are: oatmeal cookie, Panna cotta, and chocolate pistachio torte. There wasn't a single thing that was even just marginally good - everything was outstanding. Truly amazing in every way food could be. Cava Bodega in Galway was the best restaurant experience of my life until RC which now has the #1 spot. I literally teared up as I was eating my scallops. My stepdad's short rib was so tender, you didn't need the knife. The kale salad....my God, get this salad!! I dunno what kind of voodoo magic Chef Sam is doing in that kitchen, but please keep doing it. My parents are SO hard to please but they both agreed it was the best meal they've ever had, too. Let's also not forget about the wine and NA program. Edward curated a perfect NA list that pairs with each dish on the menu. I had the two spicy drinks - Thai Fighter and You Might Die Trying and both were excellent! My parents also really loved the wine they ordered. I really appreciate the thoughtfulness of bringing a NA program to this food scene as it felt more inclusive for people who may struggle with alcohol for whatever reason. I didn't feel pressure to partake in an alcoholic cocktail like I do at other places and I really loved that I had delicious options beyond club soda and lime. Service: they could get away with crap service and I'd still come but that's not the case here. Everyone we interacted with was so kind and attentive - from the hostess to Chef Sam himself. I just felt like the whole place had a light, authentic, kind vibe and I felt really at peace and welcomed in a way I haven't experienced anywhere else. Our waitress, Jakia (?) was nothing short of a rockstar. Personable, friendly, helpful - one of the best I've encountered. Edward is a master at his craft and worked the room effortlessly, explaining the backstory of the NA list and just being a really welcoming face of the brand. Chef Sam, as busy as he was, even took time out to come say hi and - who really does that anymore? It's little touches like this that set RC on a pedestal far above even the nicest restaurants. I have a feeling we will see terms like "James Beard" and "Michelin Star" equated with RC and Chef Sam soon - mark my words. The full experience was nothing short of spectacular and outdid anything I've experienced in food-centric cities like NYC, DC, and Charleston. The best restaurant in CLT, Still!! The chicken lettuce wraps are divine, savory, sweet, with a little heat. Perfect combination of flavors. The labneh was a nice diversion from the typical hummus appetizer and was equally as good for breakfast with the reheated naan. The zucchini pasta was delicious with the roasted artichokes. The short rib was excellent with the creamiest most flavorful risotto/polenta. Last, the adult Twix for dessert was impeccable. All enjoyed with a bottle of the Albariño. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation and were told there would be a wait about 20 minutes. This doesn't normally happen in restaurants that take reservations but what you gonna do? We went to the dog bar next door for a drink and got a table ready text exactly 20 minutes after our reservation time so kudos to the hostess for guessing it right. Looked at the non-alcoholic beverage menu, I was pretty excited, until I was told the one I tried to order is more like a dessert drink. Our waitress told me a couple of NA beverages can go with entrees, etc. I found it strange they weren't listed as such on the menu. So water for me then. We ordered the cashew hummus as appetizer and devoured it. Creamy goodness. Our entrees were underwhelming. The Pork Shank "Osso Bucco" was fall off the bone tender but pretty bland. My husband said he would rather have a plate of BBQ pulled pork. I liked the potato gnocchi a lot but the mushroom bolognese didn't do it for my mushroom loving self. The space is tight with lots of people moving around so I would not call it romantic or intimate or even relaxing. Service was ok. More attention seemed to be given to larger groups. There is only 1 single unisex bathroom in the packed 30-seat restaurant so just be aware. Not sure if we will be back. read more

The soba noodles were cooked to perfection and the dressing was not over powering. We ordered all three salads. Kale, Bibb and Napa. I had my naps salad for main course and it was plenty. I would recommend shard the salad if your not ordering it as your main course. My group ordered NY strip and short ribs. The streak and ribs were perfection. The ribs were so tender you didn't need a knife. Chef's kiss to everything we had last night. Service was great--friendly, knowledgeable, and just the right amount of attention to the table. The pork belly dumplings were just the right amount of sauce and spice. The oysters were perfect and presentation was nice as well. Having someone from the coast of Maine say the oysters were delicious is a serious kudo. The almond-persimmon salad was a nice complement to the scallops which were meaty and perfectly prepared--nothing worse than an overcooked scallop. Add the yellow milk and honey dessert for the perfect dessert to end your meal. I couldn't find anything negative to say if I tried except parking is nonexistent but typical of a Charlotte hotspot.
