My wife and I had a wonderful dinner. The entire experience was great. Everything was delicious and the staff was amazing.

Quaint intimate space with big flavor! My husband and I loved our dinner. The server did a great walk through of the menu. We devoured the fried clams, shrimp toast, kale salad, and scallops. Went here last night with my wife. The restaurant was small but not cramped and very busy. Very bright lighting and not overly decorative on the wall which is good. Our server was ultra dry and dead pan the entire night but I think that was her shtick. The food overall was super, mediocre. Not bad by any means just not really good. I had the pork belly dumplings as an appetizer and the short ribs as an entrée. The dumpling were ok and the short rib wasn't bad either. My wife had the chicken wrap for an appetizer and it was really tasty. Unfortunately her Scallops and Grits came out cold. However the staff was quick to replace it and she said that it wasn't bad. Overall it was just ok. Also I ordered Pinot Noir and it came out chilled that was a first. Since they have a seasonal farm to table restaurant I think it is challenging to create a great menu in the winter. I will try them again this summer. read more

This restaurant far exceeded expectations! I thought it would be a stuffy setting as the food looked exquisite online... the feel is far from it! It is elegant yet cozy, the music (and waiter!) is fun yet charming and extremely intimate as there are only 10 tables. And A+ food! Everything you want in a restaurant. Everything we ordered was unique and delicious. We were celebrating my grandma's 83rd birthday and Sam the owner came out and gave her a big hug. Knowing nothing about their format, 6 of us had a reunion at Constance Tuesday evening. With a 6:00 reservation you must leave your table at 8:00 as they have 2 seatings a night. We didn't know that. Probably why they don't have a website. I usually graze through the apps and avoid entrees. As Charlie Trotter said, doesn't it all taste the same after the third bite. So I started with the shrimp and okra. Delicious. Light bright and packed with flavor. I had ordered the Falafel as well. Someone else at the table started with the falafel and didn't care for it so I tried to change my order to the Korean chicken. The waitress said no and that was, as it turned out, the end of my dining experience at Constance. The dessert menu hit the table and I wasn't able to order the chicken because we had to vacate the table. I didn't want dessert, they sensed something was wrong and brought me a comp dessert not knowing that I was diagnosed pre-diabetic the day before and that's the last thing I wanted. I gave it to my friend and we all left. Based on sampling other dishes at the table, the food is very good at Constance. An interesting menu well prepared but the whole unexpected experience fell way short. With a 6:00 seating you get one shot at ordering, the wait staff does not service the table because they don't want to hear anything else as the clock is ticking. One and done! read more

Uh, this place ruined every other place in Charlotte for us. This is the place. No question. Everything, and I mean everything is incredible. You can tell each dish is made with a caring hand and you can even watch it made live. It's no wonder Chef Sam beat Bobby Flay!!! Chef Sam knows what he's doing. Place is small and inviting and incredible. If you can get a reservation, take it and go. We love 45 minutes away and will make this our date night place! We want to see this local place thrive and continue to serve amazing farm to table food. read more

The place is relatively small and reservations are recommended to get a table. The see through kitchen door is interesting. The food was generally good including the appetizers we had but definitely on the higher price range . The staff had lots of insights into the menu and options. Should have been a cozy dinner, however, our mood and enjoyment was immediately diminished the very second we were seated we were told to hurry it up and that we would only have 90 minutes for dinner. Thereafter we felt constantly pressured and this soured the dinner experience dramatically . We did not get a bottle of wine or desert which we had planned to do. Overall, it is also very questionable what the time limit was supposed to do. The average dinner time for a party of four in America is 75 minutes. So, this only hurt them and we will not return to a place that wishes to put a clock on us. Not worth it. read more

Food is good but tiny portions! The lobster toast is literally one slice of regular bread with a thin layer of spread and it's $14. Good but we ended up going to Cook Out afterwards. Still hungry but didn't want to spend an arm and a leg getting FIL. read more

Service and ambiance were great, but the food (While good), was not served warm at all, and the dishes all came across as being very heavy tasting. 1. You'll see the "service" towards the end. Okay. Let me say this: as you can see from the rest of my Yelp reviews over the years, I never leave less than 5 stars, or I simply don't waste my time. But this merits it. I'm not a snooty foodie that complains; I very much understand quality and customer service can be touchy. That said, I was out on a date, and looking to try something new, and I was told by my sister and her mom group to try this establishment. I saw on the website it was a "Farm to Table" scenario which made me suspicious, insofar as it can be hit or miss, because they tend to be simply way more of a production, overly clever in the preparation, or the actual entrée is a total masquerade to make something simple look more than it is. First, we arrived early, and because they do not have a bar (it's a quant, intimate setting with minimalist furnishings) we were directed to go across the street to a brewery which wasn't our type of joint but that's what was available. We headed back. Our first waiter was pleasant, and took our drink order. The menu was what I expected, very artisan and clever, ie cashew hummus, kale salad, etc. We went straight to entrees because nothing seemed too appealing. I do have a specific diet for health issues (not life threatening), so when I do order I'll just get plain meat and vegetables; but I wanted my date to enjoy a new dining experience. I ordered the steak medium (knowing full well meat is generally prepared a degree down from what you actually order in my experience at many restaurants) and for the sides was a spaghetti squash with parmesan and some type of collard green leaf wrap with potatoes in it? After I asked for some substitutions (plain vegetables), that proved to be more of a debate even though the waiter did say "we want you to enjoy your meal", which was thoughtful. Regardless, I relented and told them to serve it "as is" because I don't like to "be that guy" and complain and make their lives difficult. My date ordered the salmon. When we received our meals her salmon was served traditionally, and was on a bed of whatever clever rice mix they had for the evening, as she was pleased with it initially. My steak came out between rare and medium rare (if there is such a thing) and even though it was perfectly charred, it was cold. And not "room temp" but closer to the temperature of my dinner fork (no, I'm not exaggerating and being dramatic, I'm simply telling it like it is). I thought to myself "maybe this is their style? This is the way they serve it at these farm fresh places?" But, I begrudgingly asked "is the steak supposed to be not hot, or even warm?" The second server (they seemed to be rotating) said no, and promptly returned it. One of the chefs brought it back out and apologized, and I'm not sure if they actually put it back on the grill or "warmed it up" because it now was closer to medium well. Just at that moment, my date stopped eating, looked shocked, and I asked what was wrong and she said "bone." Okay, I understand, it's impossible to get bones out of fish. But salmon? It's not rocket science. It's a meaty fish and one of the simpler fishes to clean, like a Chilean Sea Bass, rarely having any issues or a disposition needed or qualified. They use it for sushi for crying out loud. Her next bite, another larger bone. When asked how our meal was going again, I had to make them aware, I said "bones in the fish." The chef or server (at this point I was overwhelmed and embarrassed at my choice in restaurants so don't remember which employee it was, but they again apologized and said something along the lines of "we get our salmon whole and fresh and we clean it here, so there may be bones, etc etc". Whatever. At this point I just wanted the check and to leave. I'm a gracious guy, I rarely complain, and I hate being the guy who is difficult. I worked in a restaurant, I get it. I left a 20% tip on a ~$130 check. I excused myself to the bathroom. When I returned my date was sort of perplexed but laughing. I asked her what was up, and she said "I'll tell you in the car because I don't want to say it here." I thought another table said something bizarre, or maybe there was some drama. We get in the car, and she said "Don't be mad or embarrassed, but the server asked me if this was a 'first date'" and I told her "no, just trying a new restaurant." To which the server / hostess girl said "Oh, well I just wanted to tell you, you are WAY out of HIS league." I was humiliated and totally speechless. I get it, I'm no DiCaprio. And yes, she is utterly gorgeous. But, who says that to a guest? I'd rather that be said to my face in jest or seriously so I'd have a witty rebuttal. Appalling. She was shocked, and also felt uncomfortable because a comment was made about her jacket. All aside, I'm never returning. If you enjoy farm to table and this amusing, exciting production, enjoy. This place in my opinion belongs in Vermont or Maryland, not in Charlotte. read more

From start to finish, our meal at RC was fantastic! Chef Sam did it again with his focus on simple yet quality ingredients and flavor combinations that tantalize the taste buds. Our 6 top ordered almost the entire menu and loved every bite. Some of our faves included the jalapeño cornbread with pimento cheese, pork dumplings, kale salad, short ribs, scallops, grouper, and the Carmel custard for dessert. The staff was knowledgeable and super helpful with recommendations. Sarah was a delight and Chef Sam also checked in on the table which we loved - as we could wax poetic about the food prep. Everything was fantastic! We had the Jalapeño waffle with pimento cheese spread...delicious! The entrees were just perfect, the Pork shank was so flavorful and melted in your mouth. The Arrabbiata pasta was the perfect summer pasta dish. The dessert though...chocolate tart was like eating an amazing caramel chocolate candy bar but way , way better! Absolutely best menu and food we have ever had. The chef uses each ingredient to its fullest potential in such a creative way. He coaxes the flavors in matching each ingredient to each other. Mind boggling flavors. The wait staff were knowledgeable, friendly, gentle and interacted as a team seamlessly. The exceptions were the greeter at the door. Poor service lack of etiquette. She fumbjed to find our reservation. When she did she said we were too early there was no seating. We asked for a bar to have a drink again she failed to suggest having a glass of wine. We went outside to wait as she offered no alternatives. Thankfully you have a bench next to the door. No sooner had we sat down when she came out to tell us indeed there was a table available. She had not checked. Later she did serve a couple wine as they waited. The short rib order was unusually quite small although exquisitely flavored. Wine pairings spot on by the sommelier Edward We enjoyed a Chablis with appetizers and Cabernet Complant 2018 with dinner. We enjoyed many different dishes. Shrimp and lobster dumplings excellent. Tuna with the noodles excellent. Salads were the best. Scallops outstanding. Short rib nothing short of amazing. Steak excellent. What a great experience! Service was excellent! Can't wait to go back. I forgot to mention the NA offerings. We thoroughly enjoyed the Crown. Delicious and not to be missed. Although the other options also were extremely appealing. The biggest compliment I could give is the delicacy of the seasonings nothing overpowering but definitely enhanced every dish. Went to Constance to celebrate my husband's birthday - first time there. We've been to so many expensive new restaurants in Charlotte that turned out to be sub standard that we really didn't know what to expect. From the minute we arrived we knew this place was different. Service was outstanding and the food was the best we've had in Charlotte. It's a tiny little place so reservations are required but the staff makes you feel so special and the food was prepared fresh and pretty quickly for it to be so delicious. Fresh ingredients made the difference. Unlike many other Charlotte restaurants we have visited we will return to Constance. read more
