It's located inside a plaza, so at first we didn't think it was open, but then we realized it was, so we were happy about that. When we walked in, we were happy to see that there was a live band playing Puerto Rican music. Not my first time here, but it's about time I left a review. Every time I come to PR, this place is a must stop. Today I had the sopa de Salchichón, but my favorite is the sopa de gandules. Tostones de Pana (breadfruit) is always a hit. The steak and onions is can't miss as well. You might as well order the whole menu. The staff is always very pleasant, service and family vibes serves a great time. I wish I would have gotten the servers name, but then again, hostess, servers and even the busboys all gave a friendly "good afternoon" and "enjoy your meal" greeting. Disappointed by the food quality! Food: we ordered the chicken mofongo and I was very disappointed. Both The chicken and mofongo were extremely bland and i needed the spicy Mayo sauce to add some flavor. The tostones do not pair well with mofongo because it is literally the same taste profile. The arroz con habichuelas were good but they gave the tiniest portion of habichuelas for a huge plate of rice. The maize sticks were my favorite part of the meal. Had Christmas 2024 Dinner here. The Pasteles were good, but there was not a lot of variety. I had shrimp and mofongo, and this was delicious!! The best part was the ambiance. The service was excellent, although the staff was a bit overwhelmed. I loved the live band; they sang Christmas carols in English and Spanish. It seems not too many tourists make their way out to Bayamon, but for us, it seemed like the natural endpoint after a leisurely ride on the (somewhat creepy and desolate) Tren Urbano. Unfortunately despite the fame of Doña Ana, we found most of what we ordered disappointing. Any traveler to Puerto Rico will find themselves inundated with multiple iterations of mofongo, and the grainy coarse rendition we had here left much to be desired. I much prefer when mofongo is served with chimichurri or other spicier flavors, here we had to specifically request mayo ketchup to add a kick. The arroz con habichuelas would have resurrected the meal, but the portion of habichuelas was extremely stingy. I have heard of this jewel for a long time and We finally had the chance to enjoy this place. Its a great place to bring your family, your grandma and even of you dare to bring your mother in law. Its typical Caribbean food at a great price. It was a flash back from when I used to go for lunch at my grandma's house. This was my FAVORITE meal in all of Puerto Rico. Authentic, fresh, and big portions. I never would have known of this wonderful restaurant if I had not gone to lunch with a local. When the meal came out (beef with rice and beans) I thought the portion was huge. Then I began eating it. And I couldn't stop. The flavor was perfect with the seasoning and onion. Visited this restaurant on a Friday night. They had live music which I thought I'd enjoy but it was so loud, I could barely hear my brother who I visited this restaurant with. The restaurant was very full and our waitress a little aloof. I decided on the shrimp in garlic sauce and rice. The food was good but just a bit too cold. It also took a very long time to come out. My brother had the breaded steak which apparently is one of their most popular dishes. I tried it and it was good too! The menu is all in Spanish, but the staff can help you out if you don't know what something is--our server's English was not anything close to perfect, and we all got confused at time, but we laughed it off and had fun. Watch them come out with plates, because they do about 10 on one arm. I had the Spanish Tortilla with shrimp which was super good and came with an amazing creamy garlic sauce. It also came with a side so I chose rice and beans which might have been the best beans I have ever had in my life. My friend had a chicken did with fried plantains which she said was great too. Delightful lunch last week during a recent business trip. We were heading to the lab at Engine-4 to discuss IoT opportunities in Puerto Rico (that's actually another story, for another day). I pulled up my Yelp and found this gem of a restaurant in a tiny strip/bazaar type mini mall. White table cloths, excellent waiter and a delightful meal.
