Although there are several good Latin American restaurants in the area, La Cascada is by far my favorite due to the noticeably friendly employees, and we pick up take out here frequently. It's best to call ahead, as the food tends to take a while, but this seems to suggest that it is always freshly prepared- it certainly tastes that way. I love the pupusas- delicious with any and all fillings. I recently tried the barbecue chicken quesadilla, which, as the name suggests, includes barbecue sauce, and found it to be rather different and tasty. The rice and beans here are especially yummy- the rice fluffy and the black beans really flavorful (note: so flavorful that I suspect they are not vegetarian). The steak and onions combination plate is also a winner. And across the whole menu, the prices seem to be quite reasonable relative to the portion size. read more

On an increasingly unaffordable North Fork, this place is a gem. The people are friendly and their Salvadoran food is delicious. We are so lucky to have places like this out here. They make a particularly wide selection of delicious pupusas (lots of vegetarian options available) and they do a great carne asada. It's friendly, affordable and (most importantly) delicious. There's a small seating area inside plus a picnic table outside but I'd recommend a quick drive down the road to either Horton's Point Lighthouse or Southold Town Beach for a picnic overlooking the Sound! Have been going here for years but yesterday was my last. A guy I never saw before working behind the counter stopped a woman from putting a container of curtido, pickled cabbage relish for the pupusas into our take-out bag. He did this after looking at my wife and said something in Spanish. I did not see or hear what he did but it must have been something like Gringos don't get curtido with their pupusas. Bad move senor. The women that work there have been great over the years and never pulled with this guy did. In the end we did get the curtido when my wife insisted. The other stupid thing was they had piles of curtido filled containers on the counter in full view. If they were running low at least ask us. What a gem. If you have never had a Papusa, it is a cornmeal cake filled with stuffings such as cheese, shrimp, or mushrooms. For $2-3 each we thought they would be small but they're not! Two per person would be plenty. They have a variety of what they describe as "Spanish" foods including tacos, fajitas, quesadillas and burritos. Everything is fresh and homemade. I have tried almost everything on the menu, I really can't complain about a single thing. My top options would definitely be the Chicken sandwich (Choice of fries or rice & beans). Also the Quesadillas are amazing, Get a side of their freshly made guacamole & you will be hooked. Last but not least would be the chicken soup. This small Hispanic restaurant is a gem. Everything they make is done on order. There is nothing that comes in a can here. Everything it freshly done and tastes amazing. Staff is super friendly. This was one of my best meals EVER... And it was $9!! Their fried plantains are sweet and crispy, not greesy, and come with crema. The papusas were something I never tried before and were amazing... nice corn patties filled with cheese and other tasty fillings. You can take out or dine in. La Cascada is fabulous! Thanks to the Yelp community or else we would have missed this Salvadoran gem. Located in a small strip mall, one could easily overlook it. That would be a mistake! The food is fabulous. We tried the shrimp in garlic sauce, the carne asada with onions and the cheese pupusas. Everything was delicious. Serving sizes are big (especially given the reasonable prices) -- we had leftovers. The restaurant is small, with about 10 tables, but it seems like many people order to go, which is what we did. We took it back to our hotel and eat on the back porch of the Soundview overlooking the sunset. Divine! read more

Awful experience sad to say. Tried to cancel my order when told it would take 15 minutes. Instead of cancel they said come back in six minutes. Empanadas came in a pool of grease. Ordered chicken got cheese. Shouldn't have eaten them at all but I was starving. Papusa had no taste. Menu prices stated $5 for my order but was charged $8. I love the food at this restaurant. The prices are reasonable and I've never been disappointed in the quality and quantity of their offerings. My favorite is their steak tacos and empanadas. Occasionally the orders get mixed up but it might be a language barrier. Its difficult to dine in, music can be as loud as a night club and most often what they have on TV is not appropriate for children. They always seem busy and I'm not surprised. We have been coming here for years. We went yesterday and they were so confused and screwed up with orders, it was horrible. We will try again, but cautiously. We ordered take out at the counter and 20 minutes later, they were still asking us what we ordered and when. What?! Normally, it is an inexpensive meal, quickly prepared.
