Phenomenal 1st visit to Ellie Lui! By referral I scheduled an appointment well in advance with the fabulous Francesca! Well worth the wait I came in around 4:30 for my appointment. Greeted by Page I was welcomed to the salon with my choice of beverages,naturally I chose the sav blanc. Before I could get to comfortable on the couch with ample seating, a warm and genuine Francesca came to fetch me with warmest welcome. After exchanging pleasantries and how I came to discover her, we discussed my hair hopes. I could tell right away she got my hair and how it should be cut. OK, my "incident" happened awhile ago, so you'd think that I'd be over it...but since I'm still trying to grow it out, I'm not. I had really thick, long hair and was convinced to cut it by Charles, a stylist at Elle Lui. Wow! I should have run when I saw the razor (wtf? who still uses that method?) but he had already started his Edward Scissorhands act and I couldn't get away. Six months later, I'm still a gal in trouble, trying to fix this multi-layered mess, but you can bet I haven't set foot in Elle Lui since. The stylists are all trendy and interesting, the products European and elegant, and the scheduling right on target. This is a salon where you can schedule lunch or an appointment immediately after and not be surprised by a delay or long wait. Now, back to Shireen, the lady who cuts my hair. I found out about her by asking a woman at a wine function who cut her hair. What a perfect way to find a good hairdresser. Her hair looked great and I wanted my hair to look as good. Unfortunately, her hair was thick and heavy and mine is fine and thin, but Shireen knew exactly how to maximize the shortcomings of my hair. She's consistently upbeat, competent, and supportive. After much trial, and sadly much error (from Sonoma County to San Francisco), I found the right people for my hair after I moved back to the Bay Area. For color, I started with Bobby and he was great. Then he took an extended vacation and I went to Aliyah. I stuck with Aliyah, although I would go back to Bobby if something ever happened to Aliyah (hope not!). She can just read my color well, and it always complements my skin tone. She'll change it up if I feel like it and will suggest new ideas, especially after she's been to a new training. Oh, that's one of the best things about Elle Lui. They constantly have their staff go to outside trainings or have people come in to keep them up on the latest. Not so much that it interferes with appointments, though. For my stylist I see Shireen. She is not cheap, but my theory is you wear your hair every day. I wouldn't hesitate to spend it on a pair of shoes or clothes that I only wear occasionally, so why would I balk at something I wear daily? She is so spot on, and knows how to cut - her experience and talent really shows. I could do without their reception staff most of the time. I've been going there every six weeks for years, and they still have no idea who I am. It's not enough to take a star away, since I care about how my hair looks for the next six weeks, not the front desk in this instance. read more

The person who cut my hair previously moved to Newport Beach but he referred me to Clint at Elle Lui and I have to say I am very happy. The price was about the same ($60) for a cut, and it was very professional and enjoyable. Clint is a great guy and gave me an awesome cut. I am terrible at describing what I want. It tends to be vague generalities but he got it perfectly. I also love it when I can relate to and talk about whatever with the person who is cutting my hair. Clint is easy going, interesting and totally cool to have a conversation with. I would definitely reccommend him to everyone. I live in the City and drive to Santa Rosa to see friends and get my hair cut, but it's worth it just for the cut. I have found nobody that can consistently give a good hair cut in SF and not charge $3,871,648 for it. Besides, Sonoma County is beautiful and downtown Santa Rosa is awesome (it has the Russian River Brewery). Bottom line, go see Clint at Elle Lui for a good hair cut and a relaxing, enjoyable time and then get a coffee at the roastery right across the street or drink some Pliny at Russian River Brewing. read more

Shireen is a miracle worker. No joke. She knows how to take your hair and cut it to make it look thicker, more fabulous, or whatever it is you are looking for. My hair is fine and thin, but after having it cut by her you would never know it. She also teaches others how to cut her (a sure sign that she knows what she is doing). The salon itself is gorgeous. It is a renovated warehouse with high ceilings and a modern hip vibe. The staff are incredibly friendly and offer you and drink upon arrival and make sure you are comfortable and situated. They use Kerastase products here and also have them for sale. Highly recommend Shireen, and the salon in general :) read more

Although I had no prior experience with the salon, I booked my wedding day hair appointment at Elle Lui based on a friend's recommendation. I had a trial with Mary that left me unsatisfied, but that was largely because I realized after the fact that I didn't like the updo I had originally asked for. I decided to wear my hair down and give Mary a second chance, and boy, am I glad I did! On my wedding day, I brought in some wedding cuvee to sip while we were getting beautified, and proceeded to accidentally explode the bottle dangerously close to the receptionist's lovely face...the cork shot through her perfectly coiffed curls with a BANG, the whole salon stopped and stared... and then she just laughed, hugged me, and trotted off to get us some champagne glasses. That's what I call good service. Mary styled my hair and my two sisters' very long hair in just 3 hours, working with each of us individually to make sure we got exactly what we wanted, down to the very last detail. I was beyond pleased with my hair, and both of my sisters were very happy as well. Our hair looked fabulous all night long, even after 3 hours of swing dancing! I got a cut by Andre, and I love it! I needed some layers that would lift my heavy hair and be face-framing, and I'm very happy with the cut. What he did was really unusual and super-helpful: he asked me to show him 3 pictures of hair that I liked, and 3 pictures of hair that I didn't like. I love this because I wasn't selecting an exact look to replicate, but giving him creative parameters to work with. I'm always happy to let a stylist have a large degree of freedom... WHEN they know what they're doing. Unfortunately, in the past, I trusted a few people who didn't do a great job. But now that I've found Elle Lui and Andre, I don't need to go elsewhere! Also, my hair is shoulder length and I'm in the process of growing it out longer, so he understood and took off only the minimum on the ends in order to make it healthy and make it look good again. I was also pleasantly surprised when he recommended my next cut be in 10-12 months. Usually, places tell you 6-8 weeks. But a truly good cut lasts me a few months. I know because I had one before (from a stylist in L.A.). A really good cut looks great even as it grows out. Knowing this difference, I have to say that Andre really "makes the cut." :) read more

Living in San Francisco at the time, I was amazed when I found this salon. In Santa Rosa! It is primo top-of-line, better than ANY in SF, more on a par with NYC. I see people here talk about the price; it is not at all expensive when you consider VALUE. Example? I currently live in Taos, NM and often wait several months (I kid you not) before getting a haircut because I can't tolerate going anywhere else -- other salons just undo the great lines, lines that manage to survive that long! Where else can this happen? Ask at the front desk about "Robin from Taos" -- they know I come all that way :-) I use Shireen for cuts. She is the best there is and naturally more expensive. I mean, it still takes over two months to get an appointment with her unless a cancellation so see what I mean about value? Please know, however, that the younger stylists are very close to as good as Shireen (and getting better all the time!) because They Are All Trained By Her!! They just haven't practiced as long. Cuts are around $50. What's so expensive about that? I like Lauren, Tara and Francesca but all are extremely good (and I haven't tried them all.) And, yes Bobby is the owner. No one does better hair color! Again, however, the other hair-color people are trained by him... Quality and health of hair come first. You will never ever get a "bad job". Lastly, another way to tell a good salon is the turn-over. There is almost no turnover at Elle Lui. They take very seriously the training of their highest-quality people and then they make it conducive for them to work. This way their people stay, making all that extra training pay off. Elle Lui's smart business-practice is very good for the customers. High quality control! And I agree with everyone else here: it's a very hip, very fun place to get styled. read more

Amazing salon! Everyone here is so sweet. Brianna always greets you with a smile and is always super complimentary and sweet! Frankie cuts my hair and I absolutely love her. I've never trusted someone with my hair as much as her to cut it! I let her do whatever she wants because she always makes me look better than when I came in! She always keeps the conversation going-which I enjoy. She is fun and listens to what you're saying. She'll make your dreams come true with your hair! Alexa colors my hair and she is the best- I mean it! I have normal brown hair and whenever I've tried going lighter or blonder, every other hair stylist has given me this awful brassy color and said that it was just my hair type. First time I came to Alexa she did balyage highlights (spellcheck?) and it looked so good! It was actually lighter and not orange! Then the next time I got it colored she did even more blonde high lights and I can't even count the number of times people have complimented my hair. She is super sweet and loves doing what she does. All in all, this salon has the TOTAL package. If you want to feel like a million bucks-go here. Worth every penny. My confidence has never been better since I've been seeing these ladies! read more

I LOVE this place! From the moment you walk in to Elle Lui, there is a feeling of a genuine welcome. They always offer a drink- water? Coffee? Lemonade? Tea? Plus there's cute little candy and wifi! It has such a modern, hip feeling but with a warmth and welcoming vibe. And that's just the salon... I can't say enough about Lori Rodriguez. She is amazing!! Both my mom and I have been going to her for about 1.5-2 years. She really knows what she's doing. I LOVE to change up my hair every 3-5 months. Whether it's getting bangs, going from blonde to red, or chopping 10 inches off, I fully trust my hair to Lori (and I'm picky about my hair/clothes/makeup AND I work in the fashion industry). As a dude who's been content with the $20 Great Clips cut for all 25 years of my life, I decided to #treatyoself and get a fancy haircut with André at Elle Lui. The difference is really night and day. Instead of just reading what someone else did off of a screen, he took the time to figure out just truly how screwy my hair is. I left thrilled with the result and the $50 price tag is inconsequential. They offer free trims after the fact so you can go get neatened up after a few weeks without having to spend ANOTHER $50. I moved back to the Russian River area about 12 months ago from San Francisco and for the first few months kept going to my hair stylist in the city whenever I needed my hair cut simply because the only hair stylist I ever had in Sonoma County was years ago and he is retired now. A marketing professional myself I place a very high value on customer testomonials and the ones I read here were so complimentary and so positive I knew I couldn't go wrong. So I had my first appointment today with Frankie (short for Francesca) and WOW, WOW, WOW she is so great and so talented. Frankie is passionate young Italian descent woman who is easy to talk to, sweet, friendly and that girl can cut hair let me tell you and this is coming from a woman who has lived with and been best friends with some of the top freelance hair stylists in Australia for years. I wasn't even sure what exactly I wanted when I first arrived but I did know I wanted quite a bit of length cut off and also wanted my hair more around my face than it had been in a long time. When I explained this to Frankie she got it immediately, I mean within seconds and without any further adue she washed my hair and began to snip and she snips quick! Anyway the end result by the time which was very little time she finished cutting my hair and blow drying was absolutely divine. It was EXACTLY what I had in mind and Frankie nailed it. My hair feels so much healthier and I feel so better having a great hair cut again. I highly recommend her if you are looking for a new stylist she is really great. The salon is beautifully done. Very elegant but still with a country relaxed kind of feel to it. I was delighted to also discover that they carry a very comprehensive inventory of Kiehl's products which was another thing that would require a trip to the city to purchase. There is plenty of parking at the location, everyone is very friendly and professional and makes you feel right at home.
