This was not the best dining experience ... but because we were looking for a hot dog we discovered…read morethe Krate -- an amazing venue where they are located. We came inside the small restaurant and perused the menu on the wall. There's only a small counter inside so plan to find a table and eat outside. I ordered their New York dog as a foot long and left off the onion sauce. So basically a longer steamed hot dog with mustard and sauerkraut. Unfortunately, the hot dog was not hot (temperature wise) enough. As I was already seated outside and had returned the french fries -- they were lukewarm-- to be cooked more and to be heated, I wasn't about to go back a third time. I didn't care for their fries as they are the coated type -- not my favorite -- but at least they were hot and fresher the second time around. My husband had their Chicago dog -- which only comes in a regular size (6") version. It had all the toppings on it, but he thought it was just okay, as well. With so much competition in the area, they will need to step up their game. The positives are that the prices were reasonable and that they give a military discount to veterans.

My wife ordered a foot long New Yorker and I had a Chicago dog. The dogs are steamed and are served up pretty fast. We also ate an order of fries which are coated. Our dogs came with soft drinks from the cooler. The hot dogs were just ok and the fries are battered (coated). Now we know.

The first time I came was right after that article, and there were about 50 people in line, so I left. This Saturday I stopped by at around noon, and I was third in line. WARNING: do not be in a rush! Your food is not coming out quickly. Paulie is a sweetheart, but he is a one-man show, and he likes to chat and get to know all his customers. They currently do not carry the full menu they show online, so I went with a Chicago hot dog, and the Italian beef sandwich. Paulie educated me a bit on the sandwich; if I wanted it juicy (with the sauce already on it) or on the side to dip into (yes, please, I'm a dipper), and how spicy I wanted it (more peppers, less peppers). After a nice chat with Paulie about politics, I headed home and dug in. The Chicago hot dog was perfect, although I had to remove the hot peppers. The sandwich was outstanding; the beef so tender, the peppers and onions adding depth, and the roll was so soft-I could only eat half, but the other half heated up nicely for dinner. Can't wait to go back!

Excellent other choices like a plentiful Pastrami sandwich which can also be made as a Reuben. Friendly service from a real Chicago native & veteran housed in an adjacent building (not a food truck) to a gas station - gives a dive vibe but is great for to-go. This is a lunch only (11a-2p) business 6 days, closed SUN. Very limited outdoor seating and service can be slow because he's mainly a one man show (occasionally has a helper), BUT the deliciousness of the mostly Vienna products are well worth the wait! You can also call ahead for better timed service but that hinges on him not being too busy to answer. Pro Tip food choice: his 'Best of Both Worlds' gets you a Chicago dog & a 5" Italian beef for a sizable discount!

When I am nearby and I'm hungry though it's worth stopping to have a bite to eat. I took a friend to an appointment nearby and had time to kill so I came for lunch. The place looks almost exactly the same as it did the first time I came here. They are right near a train stop and there is one accessible space outside the building. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, but it is limited. The menu here has changed a little bit over the years, but they still have all the Chicago favorites that I enjoy. I've never had a problem with anything. I have had to eat here and that does keep me coming back. The people that work here are always friendly and they strive to make sure you get a good meal. And this occasion I wanted something a little different so I ordered a polish sausage Chicago style without tomatoes because I can't have them. The bond did fall apart a bit more than I like, but my meal was excellent. They always have very tasty french fries. I have tried several things over the years and feel confident and recommending their entire menu. And of course, if you are looking for a pizza puff, then this is one of the few places you can find them around the Orlando area. If you're looking for a good Chicago style, hot dog or Polish or any hotdog this is the local stop. They use genuine Vienna, beef products, which always brings the taste of home for me. They make an excellent Italian beef sandwich and have really good giardiniera.

So, when I was in Kissimmee I looked and found this one and went. It's about a 15 min ride from the Gaylord in Kissimmee, which is a mile from Disney's main entrance. Service here was great, friendly, and quick. The menu is what I'm familiar with, but all I wanted was a small Italian Beef with spicy giardiniera and a Chicago Dog. Since fries came with it, I wasn't arguing, as they use those crinkle cut fries and they serve them crispy, hot, and tasty! The Italian Beef was incredible, as it usually is! I was in Chicago a few weeks ago and got an Italian Beef from Gold Coast Hot Dogs and it was just ok, I forgot how amazing Portillo's were until getting this one - It Was Great! Very flavorful, tender, and moist meat with a flavorful au jus to dip it into. The giardiniera was fresh, crunchy, and spicy - it made for a great combination with that beef! The bun was so soft and held up to the sandwich and dipping it into the au jus perfectly! Next up was their Chicago dogs - AWESOME! Again, fresh veggies and a great bun. The Vienna beef hot dog was cooked spot-on as well! The place is nicely decorated and kept very clean. I'll definitely return when in the area!

I placed my order at the kiosk, so I didn't have much interaction with the staff aside from picking up my food when my number was called, but everything was smooth and efficient. I ordered the Italian beef sandwich plain with the gravy on the side, and it was perfect. The sandwich was generously packed with flavorful, tender beef, and having the gravy on the side let me control how much I wanted--definitely the way to go. I also got the crinkle fries, which were fresh and delicious, and I ended up finishing every last one. One thing about Portillo's is their consistency. Every location I've visited delivers the same quality experience, and this one in Kissimmee is no exception.
