Definitely a different place and the workers were nice and welcoming. What makes it different is it is a restaurant and a store. There's a side where the cooking takes place and then there's the store with alcohol, candies, gums, coffees, sodas, fountain drinks, etc. The good thing is they still provided seating. It was off onto the end. I ordered the tri-tip sandwich on wheat with pepper jack cheese and extra jalapeños. Told the worker the hotter, the better and he laughed with me. The tri-tip sandwich w/ pepper jack and extra jalapeños was spicy and really delicious! Very reasonable too! The meat was cooked perfectly and moist. Great with their BBQ sauce! The order came pretty quickly too! Great service! Really good food! Highly recommended!

My wife and I were famished after fasting before blood work. I had heard about the breakfast burritos from a friend and that's what drove me in. When coming in I asked the young man if they had any left. Being after 10AM I wasn't certain. He let me know they didn't but if I could wait 20 minutes he could make some fresh. Retro Junction is the grill inside of the gas station. As a gas station, the store is well stocked with all kinds of chilled beverage options, candies, gums, mints salty snacks and the like. Exactly what you should expect from a gad station. With a Starbucks adjoining the building, 20 minutes was not going to phase us. The reason 20 minutes was required was in the preparation of the potatoes. They are first steamed, then fried into patties for the burrito. I have recently learned this technique, and honestly helped to add to wanting to eat this. He cooked and wife and I got Starbucks coffee. We got back and our burritos were just being assembled. I paid the $14 and we sat in the Coca-Cola booth with a Pepsi table. I have never put tri tip and chorizo in the same bite before. The potatoes were crispy from the flat-top frying and wonderfully flaky in between. The eggs were scrambled and the cheese was sprinkled between the tri tip and the eggs. The packets of Cholula hot sauce added a nice tangy and salt to the mix. Each bite had every component in it. That is the sign of a well made burrito. After eating, my wife felt a little too full. She was ready for a nap. Myself experienced a few burps that had the chorizo flavor on it. So, if you're going to be meeting people afterwards, you may want to get one of the many breath mint options.

I like that it's local and not a chain. Feels like I've been driving by here for many years. Never thought it was a place to eat; always thought it was a store. Like a gas station convenience store. Still drove by for years after learning it was a place to eat. It's on a very busy intersection, but very hard to get to unless you already know it's your destination. I hadn't eaten for about 7.5 hours and was on my way to an appointment. Pulled in to this place. Awkward experience. Just weird because there was one woman at the register for the store and no one at the grill side. She just stared at me and never greeted me or offered to help. There was another guy in the store who I thought was ahead of me, but he turned out to be a vendor. Then a guy comes in behind me and we're all standing there. Finally I just start asking questions and she walks over closer to the food. If I was more comfortable and at a new place, I would ask "what would you recommend to a person trying this place for the first time?" That wasn't gonna break any ice here. I wanted to avoid eating a big thing and hopefully avoid fast food breath so I just look up and ask for two sliders and fries. She asks if I want beef, I said yes. It comes to $8.07. While standing there waiting I see a little sign on a napkin dispenser with daily specials. It being Friday I could have gotten two tri tip sliders, fries and a drink for $6.99! I mentioned this and she didn't really care. A man showed up and I think he was the one eventually cooking. He and she started talking loudly in a language I would guess to be Punjab. I waited a long time for my food. There are a couple tables and several diner style tables on the floor amongst everything else you'd expect at a roadside convenience store. I sat down and waited. Well, at this point the food is going to be consumed in the car. I reach in the bag to grab the foil pouch the sandwich(es) we're wrapped in. Turns out they were in a small cardboard tray just covered by foil and pieces of my sliders fell all over the papers on my car seat. I was bummed: the top of the buns were black, like burned! And.... The moral of this story - the food was good! I would eat here again. Vary flavorful and didn't taste burnt. Next time I will eat there. It was tasty food from a very funky place ( condiments in a rack on top of a garbage can on the left of the door). Check it out.

Whoa! Who woulda thought you could put a great food joint inside a gas station convenience store? Top it off with a retro 1950s Coca-Cola colored scheme with chrome, red, white tables, chairs and decor! Clean, well lit, good signage, open space to walk, three different seating styles to choose. We were greeted as we entered and as we approached the counter. What to order? Sliders in chicken or burger style come 2 per plate and if you do the daily special meal deal you also get a drink of any size and some tasty fries. The burgers, in full size come in at a quarter pound with all the toppings you could want, but wait, are you extra hungry for the half-pound (double burger)? Choice of cheeses! The big tasty burger was made to order and served up with fresh toppings of my choice. Oh, wait, the candy store mentioned in other reviews...yes, it is a convenience store, but more with extra cool candy and treats. Dessert anyone? Drinks anyone? Well, the fridge case is totally loaded with beverages of every kind. Did you need some gas and a lottery ticket? That's a different review. I wish there were a Retro Junction close to where I live in San Jose. On my next visits to Fresno, I'm here to enjoy some good food. BTW, that drive through next to Retro is for the Starbucks around on the left side of the building. Don't go that way...stop and park in front of the store window.

Best burger in town. Fresh, never frozen this place was totally overlooked until I stumbled upon a pic here on Yelp. Thank you, people! This place is well run and impeccably kept. There's a view out the window, it's comfortable and there's some nice booths, tables, and outside tables and chairs to eat your meal on. Even the smallest burger is 1/2 pound and they use REAL, freshly cooked bacon when you add it to a burger. No fake bacon, like at Flame It (who I also like). The ingredients are quality as is the bun. I like that they actually use real iceberg lettuce. So many places have moved to that worthless, rubber, thin and tasteless stuff that provides no texture. Got's to have my 'textures' in anything I eat! Each burger is made to order so it is HOT as can be when it's handed to you. Yep, get ready for 'HOT.' Something we're so used to not getting everywhere else you don't even think about it until you bite into a burger here. The price was less than Colorado and they don't charge $1.00 for a .10 cent slice of American cheese like Colorado. Better yet, you're not fighting a crowd here. Me likes that. There's other things on the menu so check the pics out. The staff here were on it, friendly and Anthony, the assistant manager, made my burger to order. Delicious! For those of you with a sweet tooth, and I know there are lots here, check out the EXTENSIVE selection of candies that you can't get elsewhere. Got a fav from years ago? It's likely here. I just happened to be in the area and ended up kitty corner at Bad Buds thinking it was happening there. I inquired at the counter and asked about Retro Junction and all three employees started making the most authentic 'YUMMY SOUNDS of affirmation' and going on and on about the food here. There was more lip smacking and more mmmm sounds and It was pretty funny. I was encouraged... Eureka! In way of encouragement, thanks for the great experience here today guys. Keep up the good work! -G

Customer service wasn't all that friendly when you walked in or when you ordered. It's a gas station that offers food you can order and actually dine in. Food took a little long to get out but I don't mind since it's cooked fresh. Portion size was good and my son seemed to enjoy his meal.

    Cheeseburger and fries...yum

Visiting from out of town…read more I rarely buy bbq because as a Pitmaster the best bbq for me comes from my backyard. Well, you made me feel like I was in my backyard today. This is real deal bbq. Brisket was fantastic and the flat was almost as soft as the point (google brisket flat and point if you don't know). Ribs were a perfect bite off. Tri tip was cooked was cooked to my satisfaction and the flavor was great. I ate all my Cole slaw (trust me that means something) and the beans were fire!! Everything was pleasantly smoky. I looked for something to complain about, but I got nothin. I'll be back next trip Smoke on!

What's convenient is they have a posted paper at the front to tell you what they ran out of, so you know when you order. They ran out of their 2 cobblers, chicken lollipop (I usually find that they run out of this often) and pork belly today. Took 10 mins to get food after ordering. A good amount of spots to eat inside and outside. We ordered two 2-meat plates + cornbread. All in all, we had their brisket, burnt ends, tri-tip, and ribs + coleslaw, potato salad, Mac & cheese, and beans as sides. We've tried almost everything at earlier visits and burnt ends are still my fav. All meats are tasty with their special rub, as well as their OG bbq sauce on the burnt ends. No notes for any of the sides- just delicious! Also if you like some heat, definitely get their spicy BBQ sauce on the side. This will forever be my fav BBQ spot!
