As a Guatemalan, I'm usually pretty skeptical of Guatemalan restaurants in the United States. Too often they carry the name, but the food doesn't really capture the authentic flavors of Guatemala. Because of that, I came to Café Reu with modest expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised. The first thing that stood out to me was the concept. This isn't your typical Guatemalan restaurant--it's a café with a modern, aesthetic vibe and a very welcoming atmosphere. The space is beautifully designed, cozy, and definitely Instagram-worthy. As for the food, I'd give it a solid 7/10. Some dishes are well executed, while others don't quite match the authentic flavors I grew up with. That said, the presentation is excellent. It's clear that a lot of care goes into how each dish is plated, and that attention to detail really elevates the overall experience. What I appreciated most was the concept itself. If I lived nearby to Reu Cafe I would be here everyday, idgof if I'm broke lol. I love that their menu has so many options, ranging from traditional Guatemalan antojitos to classic American breakfast. I loved their garnachas and although the flavor was a little more on the simple side, I didn't mind it at all because they are filling. I was more surprised with how tasty the croissant breakfast sandwich! The hummus and avocado made it a lot tastier than the typical American cheese. And they come with the crispiest, lightest diced potatoes I've ever had. Omg how did they make these without feeling so greasy?! I also sought to try to their matcha and it was so tasty - it definitely hit. I hardly drink caffeine but I would def come back to try more of their drinks since they have sooo many good options. Prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get. The aesthetics here are so cute and the staff is friendly and chill. This place had been on my list to try since it first opened but it's a drive from where I live so when I was in the area I finally decided to give it a try. When I arrived it was very full, you could tell that a lot of the customers were returning customers. I was there for about an hour and people kept coming in. I came here based of tik tok recommendation, my review is now based off my second time here. To start the place is very plain. I think for a Guatemalan inspired cafe it is very lackluster. They could use so much color and inspiration from Guatemalan roots. The menu was decent, for a small cafe/menu wait time is quite long. Prices moderately pricey. I'm only giving this a 4 out of 5 because I asked for over easy eggs and my yolk was cooked all the way in my eggs. So I was a little disappointed that I didn't have runny yolk. But other than that. I got the breakfast chapin to go. The beans are AMAZING !!!!! I can order just a tub of beans to go. I had mine with Bolio and bread was great not hard , plantains were amazing. Great Guatemalan food. When we first walked in we didn't know where to order we weren't greeted so assumed we had to order by ourselves on kiosk. found this cafe through an instagram ad but glad i did. the parking lot is pretty tight and most of the spaces are very compact. there is not much seating inside and garnered more towards solo diners or groups of 2. the breakfast chapin was not too heavy and it left me satisfyingly full. i like guatemalan tortillas because of their thickness and also the way they make their beans is a lot more palatable since it feels more like a sauce or paste rather than actual beans. also saw that you are supposed to put the cream on the plantains/bananas, which made it taste more savory than sweet. as for the matcha, i preferred the maple cinnamon matcha over the el quetzal as it has a stronger matcha taste. the el quetzal was a little on the sweeter side with the vanilla cold foam on top. read more

They've only been open for 2 weeks now. This place gets crowded fast and very easily. Because of the amount of foot traffic, it can be hard to find a table to sit at. The layout of this place is geared towards a coffee shop rather than a sit down restaurant. I ordered the Blue Cloud, Reu Latte, Breakfast Chapin and the Waffles + Eggs. I asked my eggs for the Breakfast Chapin to be Sunnyside up. One egg was just that and the second egg stayed on the stove a little bit longer than it should have. The Blue Cloud wasn't sweet, but it also didn't have a strong coffee taste to it. It was certainly missing an element to it. My partner had the Waffles + Eggs and substituted the strawberries and bananas for their plantains. I wasn't overly impressed at the plantains. I enjoyed my bread. The black beans were SO good. And the fresh cheese on the side was a nice salty item to have. As I look back on my photos, I feel like this plate should've been no more than $9. 2 eggs, black beans, bread, plantains, slice of fresh cheese... yeah definitely not worth $12.75. I could easily make this at home. But I was hoping by ordering it from a restaurant that it would have something extra that couldn't be recreated at home... my order didn't prove that. I also noticed from previous photos submitted by other Yelp reviewers that the serving sizes between the cheese and beans were not evenly proportional to every served plate. If they could find an equal balance of cheese and beans I think that would only be fair for the customer. I would've enjoyed and equal amount of cheese to beans on my plate. Service was friendly. They didn't provide the utensils for our order. You pick up your own food at the counter. I didn't find any napkins on any tables. The hot sauces were limited and on the counter were you pick up your food. The Waffles didn't come with any syrup or butter. We had to ask for it at the counter. The wait time to get your food was a little bit longer than I feel it should've been. They certainly have some minor kinks to work on as a new business. The "Waffles" was really just ONE single waffle divided into 4 small pieces, 2 eggs, 3 small plantains = $12.75. Another menu item I could recreate at home for less than $7 that didn't prove to be anything special. Congrats on a adding a new restaurant showcasing the diversity of options to choose from, but you won't find me coming back here. Our friend had their tamale and it was good. read more

My husband is Guatemalan(Born and raised there) and I like to try different food but this was just a complete miss in Presentation, Taste and not very authentic from other places I've tasted. The ambiance was loud cause there were some families just lingering around and a bunch of kids running around. When our food came out we were slightly disappointed with the presentation of the Tamal the texture was just off and there was no flavor to it whatsoever (we did not finish it) Rate: 2/10 Their Chuchito was simply ok but nothing special about them honestly, the sauce filling was overwhelming and just a small piece of the chicken filling and that was it if the sauce would have had a better flavor it would be a bad bite but was very meh. Rate 3/10 One of our Favorite things was the Breakfast Chapin: came with four choice of eggs, black beans, plantains and cheese and sour crème it was flavorful and had great taste (you can get the Gordita looking tortillas or Bread with the order) we enjoyed this plate I'll give it a 7/10 We also tried the Guate Latte and that had good flavor Overall Experience was OK would I go back, Not really cause it wasn't authentic and I've tasted better. They had this Green Salsa but I wasn't able to get my hands on it cause they only had a few going around maybe that would have given it somewhat of flavor. This place is in a nice little plaza with plenty of parking. The staff was friendly and kind. gave good suggestions and helped with any questions we had about the menu. I came here with a few friends for breakfast. Not too many other people were there. The inside is nice bright and clean. Lots of seating as well! We all got different things to try I got the shucos with a matcha latte w spirulina foam. my friends got mixtas and tamales. The food and drinks came out pretty quick and everything smelled delicious. the matcha was gooood. i love matcha and have become quite picky with it, but the matcha was perfectly creamy, umami flavor and the spirulina gave it the perfect amount of sweetness. the shuco was made of turkey meat and the buns had been toasted with avocado, and had toppings of cabbage slaw, mayo, ketchup and mustard. I realllly liked it! it wasn't too heavy and the flavors were great. My friends also enjoyed their food and had good things to say about their coffee and tamales. All in all a great place to try authentic Guatemalan food! I will definitely be coming again to try their other menu items. read more

I really wanted to like this place. I've been here three times since it opened. The first two times were just for coffee, and both times we had a noticeably rude cashier who wore glasses. I decided to give it another chance and came back for breakfast alone. This morning sealed it. While waiting to order, the woman in front of me invited her whole group to order after she paid. The cashier said nothing, just let it happen. As someone who's worked at a cafe before, these things happen but an apology or explanation is typically warranted to the customer. I spent $25 including tip for what turned out to be a measly plate of food. The latte once again tasted like milk with a trace of espresso. When I told the barista, the one with glasses, that it tasted like milk, she actually tried to explain to me what a latte is, as if I haven't been buying and/or making them for nearly twenty years. For the record, a standard latte has a double shot of espresso with about a 1:3 ratio to steamed milk, maybe 1:4 if you prefer it lighter. It should taste like coffee, not milk. Someone eventually added an extra shot for me, but the whole exchange left a bad taste. Between the lack of basic customer service, the sugary, weak drinks, and the skimpy portions, I won't be giving this place more chances. read more
