I thought it might be associated with a previous and ongoing shoulder injury. So was told by the good doctor it would probably take 2 or more weeks to get in. I got in in 4 days on Easter Sunday no less. Yes, MRI appointment on Easter. I took it. I noticed one of my images on the screen on my way out and upon looking at it real quick I noticed my left side is the side jacked up with potential pinched nerves. Not my right. A few days later a massive rash appeared on my arm and I was diagnosed with shingles that attacked the nerve. Not jacked up shoulder. Not a pinched nerve. But shingles. So appointment scheduling was great. Wait time once there was quick. MRI took as long as necessary. Staff was nice. There were no wheel chairs or other metallic stuff to join me in the MRI tube so that was nice. Waited about 10 minutes for a DVD of the results and out of there. Parking was close.

Implement web based scheduling, hire more people, or figure out a way to help existing staff move more quickly through the queue. I have scheduled here before. It is not that complicated. Driving over there is the only workable alternative. Seriously office manager - solve this or find someone who will! So I finally got the call back about 10 minutes after posting this. Very nice agent and the entire scheduling process took two or three minutes. She said the queue was 100 deep. Pretty strong argument for hiring more people.

Unfortunately, that's exactly what I found myself doing after my scan in March -- spending months and nearly four hours on the phone trying to get the procedures billed to Medicare correctly. Yesterday I decided to try again. After two more hours on the phone, someone suggested I go to the Oakland patient center in person. When I walked in, it was clear they were slammed. The person at the front desk was multitasking and clearly had her hands full. She asked me to take a seat and said someone would hear my story as soon as possible. After everything I'd been through, that didn't inspire confidence -- but I did as she asked. About ten minutes later, Dani called my name. It was the same woman I'd spoken with at the front desk. She was simultaneously talking to me, working on her computer, and on the phone. My first thought was, "Why is she dealing with someone else's problem when I'm right here?" What I realized is that she was on the phone with billing -- solving my problem. She hung up and told me the issue had been resolved, and handed me the reference number. I was so relieved I left my paperwork behind, and an hour later Dani called to ask if I still wanted it. She was all business, zeroed in on the problem, and delivered a solution with no push from me whatsoever. That is the kind of service that deserves to be called out. Thank you, Dani. I hope you inspire your colleagues to help people the way you do. If I owned a business, I would offer you a job on the spot.

My appointment time was for 6:30 PM. I showed up 15 min ahead of scheduled, I completed the online forms the night before as they requested / suggested but I left at 8:45 PM (over 2 hours) when there was just 2 patients prior to me. Management should be ashamed. All for the mighty dollar.

I told him five times that my leg was paralyzed and not once did he acknowledge that I had spoken. What planet is this man from? When someone has a disability, ESPECIALLY in healthcare, you say you're sorry to hear that, and ask how you can help them. At one point, I couldn't get my leg into the position needed, (because it's paralyzed) and he actually YELLED AT ME!!! I haven't been screamed at like that in years. It was appalling. I was shaking all over. I reported the incident to the young gal at the X-ray desk, who was very nice, and she was shocked. The three people in the waiting room were all men and they were scandalized to hear that a disabled lady with paralysis had been yelled at. The nice desk girl gave me his supervisor's name: Jean Mufty. I called her and at first she defended him, saying he had a hearing problem. I said this was nothing to do with hearing loss. Then, she switched tacks and apologized. But she never once asked for my phone number so she didn't care enough to report back to me. In fact she she kept saying that he wasn't normally at this location as though that made a difference! As a disabled person, I am APPALLED that Alta Bates/Summit would employ such a man. What if I had depression or was fighting cancer? His yelling at me might have put me over the edge! HOW can a healthcare company employ such a person and HOW can he be allowed to talk to a disabled patient this way? If you have complaints about the staff here, the supervisor is: Jean Mufty, Manager, Outpatient Imaging 510-610-1478.

The appointment only took about 15 minutes for me, I scheduled it on the same day and then pulled up 5 minutes before the appointment. Staff took care of me and helped me adjust my positioning to get the most accurate scan. I got my results within a few hours online and I saw a full breakdown of my fat percentage, lean mass, bone density, etc... I'll cut to the chase and tell you it was surprisingly accurate, and within the margin of error, although Dexa is the "gold standard." I won't bore you with the metrics but I will bore you with the experience. First off, the location for the mobile service has ample parking and was conveniently located. The mobile van was clean, the technician - Suhban Khan was very professional and knowledgeable. Like myself, he was also a fitness coach and had solid knowledge not only with Dexa but also the leading body composition measurement devices on the market and smart scales. We had a good chat and I interviewed him briefly for the YouTube channel. If you want to watch, here's the link: https://youtu.be/eJ9x2bf5QHA?si=sytHprsQ9ydwYn-R The scan took about 10 minutes time, with 6 minutes for the scan. You just wear light, loose clothing and lay back, while the scanner passes from your head to your feet. It moves a fraction every 30 seconds. The van was mostly quiet with ambient music - felt very much like any medical setting. Is this a necessary experience for everyone? No. For most people seeking general health I would recommend getting the good habits of proper nutrition, exercise and proper rest before worrying about getting a Dexa but...it will help keep you accountable to your goals and honestly, the subscription service is pretty affordable. I enjoyed my experience and will check in again in a few months.

My MRI finally took place at 7:30 am. Afterwords, I noticed imaging hadn't been sent to my orthopedist and I hadn't received any detail about the imaging in over 2 weeks. When I called, the representative told me I had to go into the clinic, request imaging and wait 30 min OR my doctor could fill out a form for imaging and it would take 30 days for them to get the information. None of this was communicated or stated in the mountains of paperwork I filled out, no one at the clinic made this clear or even said anything about how/when my orthopedist could get the results. Seems you get what you pay for. I should've paid more money to get better service and faster results from a reputable hospital like Stanford. I never would've known any of this had I not called and therefore Castro Valley Open MRI just keeps your money and your records and does nothing else to help you as a patient. I'll definitely never go here for imaging again.

They called later that evening and when I got disconnected for a second time, I found out that they just cancelled me because they double booked me. All in all, my care has been delayed about a month. I had a Cva in July and this is the final exam that I need performed before I can move on with my care, but because of the lack of efficiency, I've been in limbo waiting to see why I had a stroke. In the meantime, costs have been adding up because I've had doctors visit where I couldn't be seen, I've given up work shifts, arranged for baby sitters, etc, for exams they just cancelled without caring. The worst part is that I can't even reach the office to talk with the office manager. Everything goes thru a call center.

Arriving at 10:30, I checked in for my 10:45 appointment and I was instructed to wait outside, in my car, or waiting room. Wasn't going to go back to my car and the waiting room had limited seating, so I waited outside. There was a walk-up line with about 8 people queuing. Around 10:50, a worker came out to allow in three people that were queuing. I walked up and asked when I would be let in since I had a 10:45 appt. She said 'you didn't get a text to come in?" I said no and she told me to come in. The worker at the counter asked for my insurance and ID and for me to take a seat. As I was seated, a lady outside was screaming at a lady that was let in that she had cut the line while they had waited 1 1/2 hours. A worker determined that the lady let in came in with her mom who was in the queue and explained it to the unhappy lady, who was still upset. Within 5 minutes, I was called in. My blood was drawn and I was on my way. The check-in process to go in has issues, as I was not texted to come in and I had to inquire about the status. The walk-in line needs a better system, as there shouldn't be people screaming in the waiting room.
