Complete New Orleans experience. It was amazing sitting there and listening to all the history from the owner.

Being new to New Orleans, finding the good local burgers was a major to-do. A few days ago while driving home, I noticed "Best Burger" and made a mental note of the location. So when our initial plan fell through last night (closed on Thursdays), we decided to go find it again not knowing the actual restaurant name. While we still want to try the other place, we were VERY happy to have found this spot. They have a very fancy drink menu. But we came for the burger which we all 3 got. Incredibly delicious! The quality of the beef used was top notch. Cooked to medium, it was juicy and so flavorful. They used good quality buns that could stand up to the juiciness. Very filling. I didn't take a picture because 1. It's a burger and 2. I rarely post reviews and didn't think to pull out my phone. The staff and owner were so friendly and accommodating. Revel Cafe and Bar will be a nice local place to bring our craft cocktail-loving visitors. Thank you, Revel for such a pleasant and delicious dining experience on a random Thursday night! read more

I passed by this nondescript burger and cocktail bar a thousand times before I was finally looking for a late-ish burger and drink venue. Revel was exactly what I needed on a late weekday night, with a kitchen open until 11pm. I had the Revel burger and upgraded to truffle fries. Perfectly cooked to my med-rare specifications. Tender brioche bun. Quick pickle that the proprietor says is dill but reads bread and butter at best to my palate. Comes with raw red onion, so if that's not your kink dress it down. The aioli is lemon-spicy, and a great addition to the fries. Extensive cocktail menu will have me back. The blueberry hill (blueberry vodka, lemon juice, muddled blueberries, and cane sugar) was a balanced sweet and citrusy cocktail to start my meal. The bartender said it can be made as a spritzer with bubbles as well. I'll be back go try this place again. The proprietor can get distracted and is chatty, but it adds to the charm of the place. Can't beat a $7 old fashioned during Happy Hour , and they were so sweet to my dog! The staff is super friendly and welcoming and checked on me the entire time. They also entertained my dog, brought her a big bowl of water and gave her a treat. The food smelled extremely good. I'm planning on going back to eat and have more drinks. I do not say this lightly when I say this is the best cocktail bar in the city. Not only is the drink menu expansive, but you can't go wrong with whatever you pick. Not only are the menu drinks amazing, but any cocktail you're in the mood for will be done well and couldn't get it better anywhere else. Now on top of all that they're making amazing hamburgers. It's juicy, flavorful, they mix their own burger meat to get the perfect balance. And from what they've told me they are continuing to kinda add items to the menu. I had the burger, deviled eggs, and a wedge salad. You can never go wrong with a wedge and this one proves it. Besides the burger I was surprised just how good the deviled eggs were. Delicious. Love coming here to try new drinks the atmosphere is dark and comfortable. Now I come here for drinks and food. read more

Best hamburger in the whole of New Orleans? I'm not sure I agree with "best," as there are many contenders and styles. This one is up there, though. To be really picky about it, I prefer a seeded bun, I like blue as a cheese option, and overall the burger is a little unwieldy and is best approached with the big steak knife provided with your meal. To get back to the superlatives: the meat is a blend of brisket this and prime that, not just a grind of random cow parts, details that show up as excellence in both flavor and texture. Everything on the burger is fresh. The bun is fresh and pretty robust even with all the burger and toppings included. So what no seeds? It's an excellent burger that deserved its award (from nola.com, if you're wondering). The "pommes frites" are really more American style fries in that they're thicker and denser than what's on a typical pomme frites plate in France, but they're not quite steak fries, either. We're not in France, so no points off. Fries come out hot and fresh with a delicious aioli that reminded us of Jules telling Vincent Vega about the fries in Holland. (If you're like Jules and can't imagine that, they also have ketchup. ) The fries themselves are cooked in beef tallow, soon to be recommended by the HHS as a replacement for "evil" seed oils. That goes against what most cardiologists would tell you, but did they win the election? After all, you didn't come here for an ECG. Enjoy these fries. They're a real throwback to the old days when beef tallow frying was commonplace (and life expectancy was 38 years). Then, be sure to fast and work out. Tomorrow. The more expensive steak is close to perfect, a strip cooked exactly to order with a strong crust of salt and pepper. Steak comes with the same fries as the burger, Don't pass on the cocktails, as that what's on the big menu; the one page food menu seems modest by comparison. I can vouch for the New Orleans is Drowning, a terrible name but a delicious variant something like a Sazerac. The Sazerac itself is also worthwhile. The drinks here were comparable to what I've had at Cure, and I that's about as big a cocktail compliment as I can give. Atmosphere here is convivial and the service is attentive and prompt. We didn't sit at the bar, but that looked even more convivial (not sure how prompt, and do expect to wait a bit for your drink. These things are "crafted"--a word that's horribly overused in the industry but applies here. read more

Great little local spot! Spacious on the inside and two little patio tables out front. I called ahead to get a burger to go since I had heard they're quite good. Stopped by late afternoon on a Friday to pick it up and there were some locals hanging out at the bar, having some good conversations with the staff. Going to locals only type places is always a bit hit or miss for me: they all know I'm not a regular so more often then not, I get surly service or flat out ignored. Not so with the older lady (who I assume is one of the owners). She recognized me from the phone call immediately and got me the bill right away, even while she was chatting with folks at the bar. Even called me by name several times, which I appreciated. Burger cooked to medium was AMAZING and the fries were pretty good too (a bit soggy by the time I got home but I'm sure they would've been good fresh/if I dined in). This place serves the best and Covid drinks of any place we've ever been the bartender and owner Chris and his wife make all of the old-fashioned original drinks from days gone by. Chris will tell you the history of drinks as he makes them and it's a wonderful, unusual experience. He also makes one of the best burgers in town. The deviled eggs were delicious as well. Can't remember what else we ate, but the drinks alone are worth going for. You need to be patient because some of them take longer than just throwing some alcohol in a glass with ice and tonic. We walked in 6ish on a Tuesday night and there was 1 person at the bar and 1 person occupying a table. No one else came in during our stay. The waitress ridiculed us for sitting down at a table when we walked in because we didnt see the please wait to be seated sign. Of course she said "only kidding". I am not a fan of passive aggressive comments. Small menu but didnt matter since we came for the burgers that were advertized as best in NOLA. It was very good. The only complaint is the bun is coated with something greasy like it was brushed with butter? So it tastes good but a sad mess when trying to handle it and use the one napkin given to wipe your hands. The fries were very good. There were 4 of us, each ordered the burger and were given 2 knives to share, no forks. You get a condiment cup with ketchup with your plate. My draft beer was just slightly chilled. Dont go by the beer list on the menu, it wasnt current. Food was great, service was ok besides snarky comments. The background music from the bar was a good mix of 70's classics. Friend tried to order a bloody mary, the same waitress said they didnt have the ingredients, and it would not have been served so late in the day anyway. Arrogance. We debated but still gave her 20% tip for serving us. This is more of a boutique bar serving craft cocktails with small appetizers kind of place. The cocktail menu was a book. The burger was decent enough but nowhere near the best in the city as claimed. The service was rude, especially the red-haired lady. We went one night to get pick up, the door was locked when we arrived. We called to let the business know but they refused to believe us (quite condescending) and another patron came to unlock the door and let us in when they noticed. The door lock isn't complicated or anything, it is just one of those simple door locks that could easily be locked by anyone when they come in, even by reflex or mistake. read more

I'm so happy that Revel is back! Pre-pandemic it was our go to near the house with outdoor seating so we could bring our pup. When I heard they finally reopened we went without the dog so we could be seated inside. It was great to see Chris and Laura behind the bar and one of our old favorite bartenders from there made a special appearance. Until they're staffed up they're only offering burgers and fries, but they're a delicious blend and super juicy. Don't skip the aioli! As with most of our trips there when we're seated at the bar, we'll order a few cocktails off the menu and then let them lead us on a cocktail journey based off our likes and dislikes. I went on a tequila journey that I was sure I would instantly despise myself for in the morning but was chipper as I can be for a Sunday morning. My friend and I came to Revel Cafe and Bar for Happy Hour after work. We had looked at the Happy Hour specials and it felt like a great place to check out. It turns out that the bar recently reopened and the Happy Hour and Food were on pause. Luckily I had a pretty big lunch so I wasn't super disappointed about the food. We sat at the bar where the owner served us. She was very passionate about their menu of drinks where each page was a different category. The menu hadn't been updated yet so it still had the food and all drinks were $3 more. I don't drink a lot of cocktails, so the owner asked me what kind of tastes do I like and she made me two very good beverages! Her policy was honesty, so if you didn't like the drink you had to let her know so she can make you something new. The first one was "She Loves It" and I couldn't tell you what it included. She took her time making it and the overall drink was very good! The second one we went with the same theme and this one had blackberries. Overall this is a great place to learn about mixed cocktails and to try something new! Drinks: Top notch! The owner puts a lot of time and thought into the drinks that she mixes. Happy Hour: Currently on pause. Service: Very good- We were the only ones there for a little bit so we got a lot of great service. Parking: Street Parking. I am from the Dallas area. I first discovered Revel with some friends in early January 2020. We wandered from dinner and were looking for a place to have a drink. Walked up to the doors as Chris and Laura were heading out. We had five of us, and we wanted to spend money, so they were gracious enough to invite us in. Four hours later, every single one of us vowed to return at any of our next opportunity. Chris educated us and told excellent stories while Laura assisted or hosted, depending on the moment. The cocktails were exquisite. Many times they would have us tell them what we wanted (sour, sweet, spicy, chocolate, boozy, type of liquor) and they would create something specifically for that person. The next day was our last day in NOLA, so we returned to have lunch and drink some more. This was a little different since we didn't have the place to ourselves, but everyone at the bar was adept at social interaction, so it ended up feeling like a bunch of regulars hanging out. Another A+ experience. And the food was delicious. Then the COVID-19 pandemic happened. I was certain it would kill Revel. I was so certain, that I was heartbroken about it. I am happy to say, Chris and Laura came through that (practically) unscathed and are still going strong today! Last night, June 30, 2023, I returned. Welp. Amazing again. I brought a different buddy there this time, and we had an excellent experience. He ordered the burger, which was perfectly prepared and I ordered the steak frites, which were also perfectly prepared. The house-made chimichurri was on point. And of course the cocktails were to die for. Chris is a master bartender in every sense of the role. Laura executes his vision flawlessly. I want this restaurant & bar to thrive. It's hard being a small business. It's harder being a small 2- or 3-person operation. It's hard to find the time to focus on marketing and promotions to get the word out when the toilets need cleaning and the dishes need washing after they close. So I am begging you, if you're reading this, please please go experience this place. Sit at the bar. Interact and ask them to wow you with their cocktail expertise. Tell your friends. Write positive reviews. Bring your friends. I implore you. It is obvious that Chris and Laura care deeply about creating an experience for their patrons that is second-to-none. We came because the burger just won best in New Orleans. Let's start with the cocktails! They were delicious. They were on the high side...between $12-14. The cocktail menu is large and has lots of options. We ordered the burger and frites which was $18. The burger was good but I can't say best in New Orleans. The server was super friendly but it does take a little while to get cocktails. The place is very cute. I would come back for their cocktails. The owner Laura is worth the visit alone! We stepped in to dodge the rain, and Laura offered us sample drinks. We talked about everything and she makes a mean Mint Julep (per my friend) and a Pimm's cup. Listen here, she said, "you like Bounce?" Umm yes of course we do! BOOM! She was the DJ. A friend brought me to this bar last Friday afternoon with great conviction that "you will love it!" He was so right as I was completely charmed by the owners, Chris and Laurie, who take exceptional care of their customers and take craft cocktail making to their own impeccable level. Chris is a font of New Orleans cocktail history, making my friends Ramos Gin Fizz with exceptional care to the exact recipe and manner that Ramos himself did. We received a whole history lesson and show with each drink. These people truly craft a cocktail, taking great care with each ingredient, hand smashing the ice in a special bag with a wooden mallet (that I believe I need in my life). The bar itself is an old mahogany piece claimed from a former strip club in Tennessee I think he said as I was admiring the brass elephants that held up the edge of the bar in the most charming functional art manner. Everything about this place has been thought out and done with intention and the whole family chips in to keep the place purring. We tried a happy hour fish taco and fresh roasted nuts which were both good and inexpensive. I started with a French 75 which was done to simple perfection, followed by numerous rounds of the happy hour special cocktail of the day which was an old fashioned. Again, each cocktail was crafted with intentional ingredients down to the high end maraschino cherry like none I've ever had. If you are looking for a unique experience, a truly authentic southern cocktail or just a fun place to hang out with friends, I promise that Revel will not disappoint! read more

This place is the bomb. It is old New Orleans type of place. We got the salmon dip which was sooooo good. Perfect actually because it was creamy with the seafood aroma at the back of your throat after you swallow. We all got burger with the only difference being the cheese. They were all cooked perfectly. They are put on a Brioche bun with aioli,lettuce and tomato and red onion. The fries are ok but the burger has star power. It is perfectly located on Carrollton right off canal so perfect for tourist to take the street car. I can't end this review without bragging on the bar tender. Can't remember his name but excellent crafting cocktails. So perfect place to stop and have a cocktail and small plate. Just had dinner and drinks at Revel and am so wowed! The food, the service, the drinks - everything was wonderful! Our waiter was fun, sweet, super attentive, and had complete knowledge of all aspects of the menu. I went with two small plates rather than a larger entree and wasn't disappointed. I had the deep fried Brussels sprouts and the oysters with wasabi pearls and fries. Both were delicious and the portion sizes were generous. I was in the mood for something lightly sweet and refreshing, so I went with one of their house cocktails, the Sheilavsit. It was perfect. I was with one of my besties and a couple of other ladies that I didn't know very well, so I stuck with one cocktail. My friend and I would have each had seconds if it had just been the two of us. She had a margarita and was equally impressed. Oh, and she ordered the crawfish grilled cheese and said it was a winner. Casual vibe, good for a later evening meal or just cocktails. Came here on my birthday trip with friends and were warmly greeted the moment we walked in. The owner at the bar was so kind and took great pride in her wonderful restaurant. We had the cheesy boudin balls and the creole crawfish corn dog which were yummy and then had a crawfish grilled cheese. My heartburn hated me but everything else thanked me. This is my new favorite locally owned bar. The food, service and drinks were all phenomenal. It's hard to find places that have the owner still working behind the bar but also being so personable. My girlfriend and I sat at the bar and enjoyed quite a few drinks but the food was incredible! We started with the "Guacdog" which was deep fried avocado. The crispy crunch exterior with the soft inside was a great combination. We also ordered the black garlic butter fries with lemon aioli that was incredible as well. My girlfriend and I then split the grilled cheese with crawfish and peanut butter burger. That was the hands down best grilled cheese I've had. The Crawfish were huge inside this sandwich! The peanut butter burger is now one of my favorites. The peanut butter along side the Thai sweet and chili sauce mixed so well with the pickled vegetables. The highlight if the evening was enjoying the drinks the owner was making. He had one of his pupils in town from Biloxi making drinks that were the best drinks I've had in the longest. The spicy jalepeno margarita was simply made but executed to perfection. Overall, this will be your new favorite place to experience. read more

Popped in here for a drink prior to our dinner next door at Zasu. We loved it! The ambiance and decor is lovely. The drinks are incredibly well crafted. The owner is lovely as well! This is truly a family owned and run business. We loved chatting with them. I tend to judge places by how well kept the restrooms are - they didn't let me down here. Super clean and well maintained. We didn't grab food, but the people sitting next to us at the bar had the most amazing looking burger. We were only in town for work, but if I was local this would be my regular spot! This is a fabulous restaurant and bar, and we quickly have become regulars. Both the food and the cocktails are exceptional. It is really fun to sit at the bar and watch the cocktails being made. The owner and the other bartender are so knowledgeable about the drinks and their history. They make a authentic mint julip that my husband is crazy about. The Pimm's Cup is authentic and very refreshing and delicious. Last time I had a Blackstrap Rum Milk Punch and just loved it. The hamburger is so special and delicious, and in my 70 years on the planet, I have never had french fries that good. They make a delicious romaine "wedge" salad with wonderful toppings and "homemade" green goddess dressing. Last time I got the steak, and I was blown away because I almost never eat steak, and this one changed my mind- so juicy, tender, and flavorful.
