Really cute place. This is my second time visiting this year. We didn't have reservations but because it's a smaller place I'd recommend making them. When we arrived we were told there was no seating due to all the reservations but we could get a drink at the bar and sit there if a seat was available. They also have seating outside with heaters but it was too cold so we just got a drink at the bar. Since it was the last Tuesday of the year lemon drops were only $3 so I had a regular one and then 2 different kinds of watermelon drinks. My friend had a peach one. The bartender was nice and the host took our food menu. Food was pretty good for bar food but it is limited. The sauce was really good on the burger but if you don't like the sauce it's pretty plain. I've also stayed at the bar until closing before. During my most recent visit, there was an updated menu, and some of my favorite drinks were gone. We were seated at a table and instructed to walk to the bar to place our orders--this felt really odd, especially given the wait time at the bar. The new menu didn't really appeal to me with cocktails being around 17.00 plus a 20 percent automatic gratuity and a 3.6 percent charge for card transactions (no matter your party size). I've been to Maze twice now, and it has become one of my favorite lounges to go to in the city. The drinks are amazing. Hand crafted and just enough liquor to get you right. Maze is a lovely space. It's currently decked out for the holidays which I love. I went on a Friday which I believe was advertised as R&B night. There was a DJ and the music was great. I didn't eat but my friends did and seemed to enjoy their food. I tried two of the holiday themed cocktails. They were okay. This space operates as if it offers table service with a server. Unfortunately on this evening there was one young lady acting as host and server for the entire lounge. Although she kept her composure, was friendly and doing her best it was entirely too much for one person to mange. Maze was busy. Not sure if it's normally done this way but she was able to take food orders but drinks and hookah had to be ordered at the bar which is fine if you don't offer table service. My other gripe and I really dislike when places do this but it seems as if an establishment is not being transparent and letting you know they add gratuity to every bill if you order at the bar and they don't provide an itemized receipt. I mean it's easy to recognize based on the totals but customers should be told gratuity is included on all tickets at tables and/or if you order at the bar. The ambience was great and the music was also great. That's where the greatness stops. We sat at a table and had to walk up to the bar to order food. My companion was automatically charged gratuity when they ordered from the bar. It was not a group order it was just them ordering food for 2 people. I was charged gratuity but there was no table service. The only time someone came to our table was when they brought out the food. I ordered 2 wings and 2 fries. About 20 minutes after ordering both wings came out. 8 minutes later 1 of the fries orders came out. 10 minutes later the last fries order came out. There were no napkins at the table and no napkins were brought out with our food. So we were eating sticky wings with no way to clean our hands. We decided to go to the bathroom to clean our hands. After waiting in line I realized the bathroom didn't have soap or paper towels. The food. I got the Buffalo wings and they reeked of vinegar when they arrived. And when I tasted them they tasted like a salt and vinegar wings not a buffalo wing. They were fried well and they were a decent size. The fries weren't bad. A friend and I came here on a Friday night after a late dinner. We arrived around 11 PM and were greeted by a hostess. She offered us a spot at the bar or at a row of table and chairs to the left of the front entrance. We opted for the bar. We were promptly greeted by Saheed who was sharply dressed and smiling. He handed us menus. Fair warning- the cocktail prices are fairly steep- about $18-20 per drink. I don't remember the names of what we ordered, but I got a tequila drink with cherry and orgeat and my friend got something with butterscotch something or other in it. Oh. My. Gosh. Y'all. These were two of the *best* craft cocktails that I've ever had. And they come in cute/unique/beautiful glasses with floral garnish. We had originally only planned to have one each because of the price but they were that damn good that we splurged on a second. We did not order food because we had just eaten but I think I saw wings and some garlic Parmesan fries on the menu? I was caught off guard by the hookah offering. It's not my thing and the scent was noticeable though not overpowering. It's a dark, intimate vibe. The music was of the rap/rap-pop/r&b type, and a lot of the songs reminded me of my younger days dancing in the clubs as a college girl. There was an okay crowd. About 3-5 of the tables had guests at them and most of the spots at the bar were filled. The bathroom was regrettable. No soap, no toilet paper, no hand towels. And very dark. My other cleanliness note is that the bar was not well-kept. Bottle labels not facing forward or really in any sort of presentation, dried fruit caked on cutting boards, but these are things that not everyone would notice/care about. Service was accommodating but there was a lot of playfulness between the hostess and the bartenders, and I saw the bartenders hitting the hookah behind the bar. I went for my sister's birthday to where we had reserved a section for 12 people. When we arrived they had two small tables saved for us without enough space. There are no servers for when you have a section so you have to go to the bar for every order where the bartenders will take their sweet time making a sidecar for 10 minutes. You have to reach a $500 minimum for our section to spend $200 of what was a deposit. 12 people ordering their $20 drinks apparently couldn't reach that minimum and they charged an extra $320 on top. They also refused to give an itemized receipt of what the charge was for. Every toilet was also clogged for the duration of the night and the DJ wasn't the best.
