Not bad at all for a strip mall restaurant! I was coming out of Goodwill on a search for pants when I smelled something absolutely delicious coming from Revolution. Add a Groupon and you've got me caught. The "appetizer" spicy Szechuan noodles are absolutely less so of an appetizer and more so of a full sized dish. The string beans were definitely up there in some of the best string beans I've had, and the service was surprisingly quick as well. I selected this restaurant for a family celebration of my father who would have turned 100 on February 6, 2026 if he had lived. My heart was brokened by the treatment my family and I received simply because we are Black, no doubts. I reserved this site because it had Karaoke and a room, I thought it would be fun for the family.We mostly had young adults and children. We just wanted to celebrate our father. I paid $65 of a $165 rental of the room. I didn't need to pay $65, but I choose too the manager said I could pay $25 to hold the room. My family from the first ones that arrived was treated with rudeness and asked to pay. They were not given water or anything, and when they asked to purchase a craft of wine were told they would have to pay with cash. When I arrived I was told that they were asking for money and would not serve them in the room that we reserved; they had to go out to the bar, order and pay in cash for their orders whether it be food or drinks. They were also told there was no alcohol drinks or mixed drinks. When I arrived, I was shocked and asked if I needed to pay the reminder of the deposit or could it be added to my total bill. I was told no, no, it would be added to the total bill. I thought, for the moment, everything was okay, but we never had anyone to come in and take our orders drink or food. There was 22 of us at this point. And, the manager kept asking about payment. I finally said to her, we know that you are treating us like this because we are Black, and I promise you, we are not here trying to not pay you for your services. We will pay you for your services. The family discussed it and we decided to leave and not give them our business at all. By this this time there was 27 of us. I asked how much did I owe, and the manager said I didn't have to pay the $100, just pay $35. I did and 2 of my family members paid for the food they had ordered from the bar and we left and went to Dave and Buster and had a fantastic celebration of my father. Mind you the weather was horrible on February 6, but we did not let this bad weather stop us or this very ignorant treatment of us sop us. At Dave and Buster we were not made to feel unwelcome or any less than anyone else there. they made us feel like they were happy to see us and have our business. The food was extremely good and the kids and adults enjoyed themselves completely. I would never ever recommend this restaurant Revolution Chinese to anyone. Based on some of the reviews I've read, I was expecting complimentary tea, excellent service, and great food. I don't have much knowledge of Szechuan flavors, but the beef I ordered was inedible! The small slices of beef were fried to a crisp! I expected some beef to be inside, but it was all dry. I took a nibble and it didn't even taste like beef, it tasted like old frying oil with dried up chili peppers. If my server had the courage to change my entree and make me happy, I wouldn't be giving a 1 star. However, when my father and I told the server we didn't like it, she began lecturing us about how it's food that Chinese people like and it's not bad as we were claiming it to be. The waiter walked off and my plate stood at the edge of the table where they left it. The waiter later came back and offered to change my food and only charge half price for the crispy beef if I ordered, however she would still charge full price for the new dish. Most restaurants I've been to immediately change your meal and remove the charge of the first dish, so this felt unfair for us. I told the waiter that if I was going to be charged half price for the beef, then I don't want anything else. She then brought us the receipt and the we were charged full price for the crispy beef because she only offered half price IF i paid full price for another meal. The fried rice came together super nicely and is large portions, so if you're wondering about ordering rice with the other dishes, I wouldn't b/c of the size of this dish. BUT the dishes in general are pretty high in flavor, spice, and taste, so you may want to order white rice to really help you out. Pork intestine dry pot was excellent (though that's a pretty good dish to begin with), and I might have rated the place 5 stars if that's all I'd had. The Sichuan eggplant was in a sauce that was way too sweet, though, in an Americanized fashion. Hunan Hot and Sour Noodles were a bit bland the first day, but the peppers flavored the broth more as it sat in the fridge, so the leftovers were excellent. The interior is broken into two sections: the restaurant section and the back rooms where people can karaoke. When you sit down, there is a large water bottle they have filled so you can pour yourself water throughout the meal; there is a traditional looking teapot that you can pour yourself hot tea from as well. I found this to be convenient and liked the idea of not having to wait for refills. The service is prompt, however there does seem to be a bit of a language barrier with some of the wait staff. This is easily resolved by just pointing to what you want on the menu. Something I didn't appreciate is that our waitress sat down next to us while taking our order and was leaning very closely when we were pointing to the menu to tell her what we wanted. While I understand the language barrier can be an issue, it is still Covid times and I found myself taken a back by her closeness. The portions are filling and the food came out fairly quickly, though the prices were a little bit on the higher end Something to keep in mind is that the food seems to be Sichuan style, which is very spicy asian food. They have red peppers next to the menu items that they consider spicy. The peppers go in a range from 1-3. I ordered the hot and sour soup while my friend ordered one of the dry hot pots. While both only had 1 pepper shown next to them, they were both incredibly spicy. I eat a lot of spicy food and felt like the spice levels depicted by the peppers on the menu, weren't accurate to how spicy the actually was. Apart from the hot food, my friend also ordered a Congee bowl. This was very delicious, however seemed a bit more soupy than I'm typically used to. All in all, the atmosphere is pleasing and the service is fast, but the prices can run on the higher end. While the actual mannerisms of the wait staff was a bit off putting, I again, felt like it could just be due to language and cultural barriers. A key point to keep in mind, if you cannot handle spicy food, do NOT go here. If you like spicy food, this is the place for you! Revolution Karaoke! What a sneaky place! Hiding the best tasting Chinese food in Rochester in a karaoke bar! It was so good I went back twice in less than a week (and I'll likely be back again next week)! The restaurant specializes in Szechuan cuisine, a region of China where the prevailing flavor is MaLa (that's "Ma" or numbing, and "La" or spicy). Revolution does this food AUTHENTIC. I got the Steamed Chicken with Chili Sauce, the Fried Lamb with Cumin, and the Boiled Sliced Fish with Hot Chili Sauce. All are FIRE (in the figurative sense, not literally on fire or spicy fire). The chicken (which technically translate to saliva chicken from Chinese because it makes you salivate) is both sweet and spicy, with that characteristic MaLa flavor and is extremely tender and delicious because of the way it's cooked. You only need to be careful of bone shards as it's cut in a way that the bone cracks. The fish is the most tender little fillets you've ever eaten, falling apart with minimal chewing and perfectly pairing with the spicy sauce that clings to each rivet in the sliced fish. It is a little different than the water-cooked fish (as it translates from Chinese) that I've had in the past, but still hits all the right notes. The lamb is tender and not at all gamey. It pairs perfectly with the grassy cilantro and peppery onion slices. What can I say! I left with both a full belly and full heart. The service could use a little improvement, as only one server covered the entire restaurant, but I'll give him a pass in COVID times. I was here for one of the all-night karaoke sessions and it was really fun! The equipment is very high tech compared to what I was used to and the speakers are really loud. They give you the option to adjust the mic and music volume levels, and turn the vocal support on/off. The music request interface was fairly confusing, and though it seemed that they had a good selection of Chinese and Japanese songs, I found it nearly impossible to write/type in Chinese characters on the keyboard. This could also be because I'm not a native Chinese/Japanese speaker and am not used to those types of keyboards. It would be helpful to provide a book containing song codes so that we only have to worry about typing numbers. Otherwise, the English song selection was pretty decent. read more

There is definitely potential - especially given the location in Henrietta. Karaoke seems to be popular with a wide range of cultural and age groups, and I think the location near the colleges is a good choice. I love that they have a full bar. They can make pretty much everything, but it is more expensive than your regular neighborhood dive. $12.00 for whiskey and ginger-ale seems a bit steep to me. The ambiance is not bad - maybe a little too black-lightish for me (not sure that's even an adequate description) - but the low light makes it better for hiding yourself in the crowd or singing from the bar and not being noticed as much. The private rooms are a great idea. Actually I think this is the greatest appeal of the place. Book private parties and events here, and have a blast with friends for a reasonable price. Some things that need improvement in my opinion are the computer systems. It seemed very difficult to search for songs without the aid of a tablet given to us to search for songs by one of the staff members. And while they claim there are 1000s of songs to choose from, they lack a significant number of classic songs I would have imagined would be available at karaoke. Ahem.
