I have been coming here for 2 years. Occasionally I have bad service, but last time was terrible. Well, is December and they have no hot water, and they let me know of that when I took my shoes off. The salon was full of customers, rushing, running, yelling at each other. The place was filthy, awful, not sanitize at all. Just to let you know, this was my last visit to Rex day in hell. I have been coming here for a little more than six years now and not once would I leave unsatisfied! Helen has always been my technician and she is great-- plain and simple. She really puts in the time and effort to make sure I leave the spa happy, even if I happen to mess up a toe or two, she repairs them right away. The spa's location is great and they have renovated it recently so all the equipments are relatively brand new. This is by far my favorite salon in the Arlington/DC area. I have never had a bad experience and have been going there for just over two years. Each time I try to go somewhere else, whether I am visiting my family or out of town I am always disappointed because my nails never look as good as when I leave Rex! I have seen all of the technicians and they always remember me and we can have conversation the whole time or total silence so that I can relax. To the reviewers that complained that their techs talked to each other the whole time...seriously? Who cares. Sometimes I prefer silence so that I can enjoy the experience without answering questions every two minutes. All of the techs are incredibly friendly and take great pride in their work. Just started going here about 6 weeks ago. The techs I've seen so far have been great. Today's took the cake though. Kelly was fantastic. She was meticulous with my nails, for the length and shape exactly right, and the gel didn't look all bubbled up and fake. These look like my real nails. Her hand massage, though brief, told me she gives great foot massages too. She's amazing! I will be back for a pedi with her soon. So happy this is so close to my house! So honestly I've never been treated so bad at a nail salon before. This place obviously has their regulars which from what I observed they treat nice... but I am not a regular.. this is my second time here. My first time was with Mia and she was absolutely fabulous. Great customer service, great lady overall. My second time was completely opposite. The employees were so so so rude. Not to be paranoid but you can so obviously tell that they are talking about you to each other from across the salon. When it was time to leave I was treated so bad I contemplated even giving a tip.. I did end up giving a good 20% tip which is way more than what they deserved for the terrible treatment and she didn't even say thank you. I said thank you to her and she just walked away!! I've been coming here regularly for years and have had mostly pleasant experiences. However, the last couple of times I have gone I have been disappointed with the quality of work. The most recent time it was so bad I had to return to try and have my nails fixed. I wasn't able to make an appointment with my regular, Lily, and had a woman I had never seen before. When she was finished I wasn't happy, she didn't paint down far enough (too much of a gap at the bottom), paint was uneven, didn't cut away all of the cuticles and skin, barely gave a hand massage, and I watched her lightly rinse the bowl that my nails were soaking in and then put it right back in the cabinet! I didn't say anything at the time, I was just going to go with it and be sure I made an appointment next time. However, 3 days later my nails started to chip and they looked like they had a weeks worth of grow out. I came back to hopefully get them fixed. Helen (the owner) wanted to look at my nails and tried to say that it was just natural grow out to which I explained there was no way they had grown out this much in just 3 days. She said it was "summer growth" and with the warmer weather it makes nails grow faster. This is totally ridiculous and just an excuse on her part. She refused to do anything about the bad paint job as she said the "nails would have to be wrapped", aka them actually redoing them, so I only got the chip fixed. Then 10 days later I was able to peel off the polish off in one piece on basically all of my nails. Gel manicures usually last on my nails for 3 weeks! This manicure was just done poorly from the get go and Helen was unwilling to not only take responsibility for her workers mistake but made excuses and she in no way tried to rectify the situation. No offer to fix them or even at the least a discount on my next manicure. Again, I have been coming here for YEARS! She obviously doesn't care about loyal, long time customers. It's a shame and I won't be coming back. If you do choose to go be sure that you make an appointment with Lily. She does do a good job and is very friendly and nice. read more

Came to Rex with a friend, this is her regular spot, and I was pleasantly surprised with the end result. Had appointments on a Sunday for us, though I had to wait for 15 mins for SNS technician. Once seated, technician wasn't overly warm & fuzzy...not hello or a smile. I'm very okay with a not so talkative tech, but a simple greeting of, "Hi, how are you" with a smile goes a long way. The cold, non-friendly demeanor continued throughout the mani (rude/rough handling on my hand, arm, & fingers). The saving grace was that my sns mani came out beautifully. I wish I could rate no stars. I called and made an appointment for 2:15, when I showed up they asked me which services I wanted. I told the women I had an appointment, and she just walked away. She didn't say they would be with me shortly, to pick a color, nothing. After waiting for about 20 minutes without any communication from their staff I decided to leave. As I was pulling out of my parking spot the women ran out of the shop and accused me of taking one of their nail polishes! I was completely astounded. I understand running late, but let me know especially if I made an appointment. On top of that to accuse me of taking a nail polish.... are you kidding me? Some technicians are better than others. I had an acrylic full set done, which I never do. She didn't asked me what shape I wanted in the nails look so boxy and square. Not a huge deal, but still. One of the nail techs Christina has stayed late for our nails and always caters to our schedules. First of all, some folks might think that a day spa means something spa-like. This is just a cheap nail salon. I have no problem with cheap nail salons, for the record. My problems with this place: 1) roaches 2) nasty, nasty owner 3) mediocre service. Manis and pedis are _fine. Waxing was fast but painful and with wax ball remnants. 4) a million better alternatives nearby. Like Nail Bonita. Cheap, good service, nice folks. Or Aislinn nails down by the Taco Bell. I'm kind of an old school dude and not really into all that manscaping or whatever the hell people call it. But facts are facts, and sometimes you are presented with them in real time from those who are closest to you. I was being taken out for a reflexology session, and my female housemate mentioned that my toes currently looked crushed. Probably not the best look for a date where your toes are prominently involved. In fairness, this was correct. I had back to back lengthy runs in consecutive weeks and my toes had suffered unsightly damage. Still, despite her best intentions, I absolutely could not and would not accept the truth. Yet, when this subject was broached again and even my own brother (and yet another close friend) mentioned that I should probably get a little bit of professional love for my toes, I swallowed my pride and headed to this spa for that manliest of activities, the emergency male pedicure. Thankfully, my housemate was kind enough to go as well. We ran into one of her married friends and their conversation was enough to soothe me through the process. Or perhaps it's the fact that foot massages in hot water have that effect. I never understood how much clipping and filing goes into these things. The latter isn't the most comfortable aspect of the experience, but I have to say that it worked. There wasn't anything that could be done about the bruising, but the nails themselves looked pretty good. More importantly, the REX workers were really nice and being less than judgmental that I was going through this process (and, if anything, seemed to understand that this was obviously my first time getting one of these). While I'm not necessarily sure I would ever get one of these again, I wasn't embarrassed to show my newly pampered feet later that afternoon. And that, my friends, is worth the price of admission. read more

**3.5 stars** My roommate and friend is a regular here and was awesome enough to bring me along for a birthday treat - a Spa Pedicure!!! I would like to note that my actual spa pedicure was AH-mazing! The sweet smelling bath salts, multiple foot/leg messages, and hot towel treatment left me feeling great. My toes were painted pretty well. I wish she was a tad more gentle when digging underneath my nails though. I think the biggest problem with this visit was due to the fact that our nail techs weren't the most friendly of them all. They spent the majority of our time there speaking to each other in their native language. It just makes your customers feel uncomfortable and as if you don't really care about them. During the hour visit, I believe the total words spoken to me were: "Hi, how are you?" at the beginning and "Do you like the massage?" towards the end. That's it. This was not what I expected since my friends rave about this place. I think there are a few nail techs there that they regularly visit (they know each other by name and can talk about family life together) - but they were not the ladies providing us services that day. I will definitely return here again, but set up an appointment that specifically requests the friendly nail techs that my friends know & love! I have no idea how this place has any less than 5 stars. I went here for almost 5 years until I got married and moved away from the area. Everyone at Rex was extremely good at what they did, extemely clean and professional. I miss them dearly and if I could I would definitely return, it's just so far from my house now... It's really a shame. They were the only ones that kept the ingrown nails at bay - gross, I know, but some people are just prone to them ... I'm one of those lucky people. I came here from the good reviews on yelp and the fact that its so close to my apt! Crystal was very friendly and made me feel relaxed and welcome. I've been to other salons in the area but the people here seem a lot friendlier. My wax was ok, i have a few stragglers but not bad. But my pedicure was heavenly! I had embarrasing feet and now they look gorgeous :) and she did a great leg massage too. I did read the reviews about being rushed around so I can't speak for the busy days since it snowed today and I was the only one there! So at least on a nonbusy day, I had a great experience and will come back for more services! read more

Nail technicians listen to your needs and specifications. Came in for a pedi with my mother, who was visiting from out of town. She is a little apprehensive on other people touching her, and now has a hard time doing her own pedi. I asked the technician to be gentle with the cuticle cutting and pumice scrub. Based on the reviews I thought I'd give the salon a try. I got my eyebrows waxed and a pedicure. I have been to MANY spas ranging from expensive to inexpensive, so I feel I have a pretty good idea of what is a good versus a bad experience. I'd rate Rex as pretty average. I didn't have an appointment, but was immediately taken back to get my brows done. She did a pretty good job, but I've definitely had better. The pedicure was really quite average. There was no leg exfoliation, very little massage and too little lotion so the rubbing pinched my skin a bit, they didn't "take care of me" like other spas by turning on the massage chair or getting me a magazine, and I didn't love the polish selection. I love the techs here, especially Tina and Ann. They both do a fanstastic job. You can request appointments and they are always accomodating.
