ITS OPEN!! Found a hidden gem in Cross Plains, WI serving delicious tacos!! The tacos were so so good! I got the chicken, steak, and shrimp tacos and each of them were so tasty. At $3.49 each, the tacos were filling and loaded with meats. The kids quesadillas were good too. Will be back to try other things off the menu. Quick and good service. Reyes Tacos is a true hidden gem! Mexican food far better than you would expect in a small town like Cross Plains. The restaurant is very cute and fun. The family who owns it are very nice and have spent a lot of time decorating their restaurant to make it a fun place to dine. Their drinks are excellent - I highly recommend their Bobajita (a mojito with fruit and bursting boba, garnished with smoldering rosemary). If you like variety, try the margarita flight (4 different varieties, also with bursting boba). Their food is even better than their drinks. We love their Mexican-style tacos, and their mole enchiladas are out of this world! Seriously some of the best mole I've ever tried! They come with shredded chicken, ground beef, or cheese (cheese is my favorite, but I usually get one of each for the sake of variety). The service is superb, the restaurant is fun and cozy, the drinks are delicious and creative, and the food is fantastic...what more could you want? read more

Bravo! Guacamole, amazing!!!!! It has more pico than avocado and the right amount of lime. tacos were full of meat! Mole was very thick, chocolate and sweet. Salsa had a nice kick to it! Rice was normal. read more

it's a clean, well-decorated place, the prices are good, and the food is REALLY GOOD. They hand-make a lot of stuff that other places might buy in cans (the tomatoes are the only thing they buy in cans!). Anyway, the food was great, the service (by one of the owners!) was great and very friendly. And the chips and dip are FREE, bucking the recent trend of charging like $7 for them, as so many other places are now doing. Also, eating gluten-free was easy there. Not closed. At least since the let me in I believe it's open. 4 tacos. $3.49/ea. The tacos include the meat, onion, corn, cilantro and lime. She gives me the check, $18.something. $13.96 is my math. I guess the added pico somehow was charged. Handed her a 20 and and said keep it. These tacos certainly better be good. Took some photos of the 4 tacos as delivered and another with the jalapeños (sliced, whole in rounds, hardly practical to the usual gringo! Now "Reyes Tacos" - same owners as Maple Leaf Family Restaurant, but rebranding to focus more on the Mexican food that has done so well for them. After seeing plenty of in-town marketing about their great Mexican food, it was time to try it. Since Pedro's (west) left, we've been struggling to find that "go to" place for great Mexican food. I ordered the combo fajitas (chicken and steak) while my wife got the beef chimichanga dinner. Starting with the chips and salsa, they were fine. The chips didn't blow me away as "fresh", but they were the traditional yellow chips you'd expect. The salsa was fine. I've had better and worse. My fajitas were okay. I should have noted to get flour tortillas - that's on me. I got corn instead, which seemed to dominate the flavor. The chicken was fine. The beef appeared to be something pre-made - some square "chips", unless someone managed to cut a piece of meat perfectly like that. It certainly wasn't strips cut from a skirt steak, like you'd expect. The flavor was also fine. The wife reported that her chimichanga dinner was "okay". I was really hoping this meal would blow us away and fill that void in our dietary lives. I wonder if the curbside pickup (thank you for the option!) cut into the freshness you'd get when dining in. This just in - I reheated my leftovers (using flour tortillas we had in the fridge) and it's decent. We'll probably order again, but try something different on the menu, just to see how other things go. The folks I dealt with (owners?) were very friendly. I hope things work out for them so we can keep another in-town option for ordering out. read more

The new owners have made this their own for sure! The Mexican food was delicious. They have kept Americana options as well! The owners are very nice. It was mid day when we came. The owner came and chatted with us for a good 20 minutes. Her heart is definitely with the customer in mind. They will be changing their name soon but continue with both Americans and Mexican dishes. Having eaten in Mexico and Southern California I was thrilled to find this in a small WI community. Alejandra (Alex) is a wonderful person. This restaurant has recently been taken over by new owners and I must say that I'm impressed! Both meals portions were large, cooked exactly as I had asked, and the service was attentive. However, their tzaziki sauce borders on greatness. I had the Greek omelette which came with tzaziki and it was some of the best I've ever had. We don't get out to Cross Plains real often, but when we do, we'll be stopping at Maple Leaf. read more

The service here is truly fantastic. It seems like it's room be a whole family, which makes for a nice, homey feeling. The food isn't bad... Just... Don't sit in the dining room on the left. Stay in the room with the counters. There is absolutely no ventilation in the bathrooms and you can smell them from the dining area. It's nauseating. I don't think I'll go back. It's a real bummer cuz it's so close. :( read more

I've lived all my life proximate to cities with large Mexican populations. As such, I grew up eating really, really good Mexican food. I came to Wisconsin for graduate school (Go Badgers! #OnWisconsin) and professional work. Lived here for more than seven years. The Mexican food offerings in this area don't compare to cities in the Southwest. However, this restaurant is probably one of the top three Mexican restaurants I've eaten at in Wisconsin. The new owners, a couple from Mexico City, serve up some really good Mexican comfort foods. My partner likes the Chorizo with egg. She says the tortillas are fresh. Our son loves chicken enchiladas with rice and beans. I love the vegetarian burrito. The salsa and chips are really, really good, too! We've returned here multiple times because the food is delicious. We have never been disappointed! The service is timely and the waitress/co-owner is very friendly and attentive. I hope the secret about the great food at this place (which is just a couple of minutes' drive from Madison) doesn't get out. read more

Tried this tonight with high hopes for the new owners. My margarita was terrible, and I'm not sure I've ever met a Margarita I didn't like! Food was mediocre, I had shrimp enchiladas, shrimp was tiny and chewy. Our table and restaurant didn't seem very clean. Waitstaff was friendly and food came fast. Not sure if I will try again for another chance. I want so badly for them to do well! read more

First of all, family owned with terrific service by owners and other family members. The food is very well presented--enticing to even just look at let alone tasty. Each bite is like a new bite of multiple layers of flavors and textures. Never boring and certainly no bad after-taste. This is Just as you would expect of freshly made meals as well as drinks. Today I ordered flauntas as well as one side of a soft shell steak taco and a homemade tamarind beverage. Quite often I go for the freshly homemade horchata--cinnamony and just right in sweetness--not too sweet. My partner ordered ground beef nachos-- huge serving and very attractively presented. No disappointment here in flavor and crunch. Oh, I need to mention the cucumber, jalapeño cocktail. Once again every sip was like the first sip--outstandingly magic to the palate!! Margaritas original on the rocks use to be my fav drink. Now, it's in contention with the cucumber jalapeño cocktail and the Tamarind Margarita!!!
