The first time I visited with my parents, I needed a car inspection because my husband was still at the sea, and I had just moved from Seattle to San Diego. I wanted to make sure my car was in good condition. Boris provided so much helpful information for my husband, and I initially forgot to check the air, water, and oil. Now, every time I visit, I'm so grateful for how thorough Boris is. He handles the maintenance, explains what we need to know, and gives us updates on what to expect in the future. Today, after inspecting the brakes, he walked me through our next steps. I also asked about the air, and he reminded me to add more oil since it was low again, something I had forgotten, oops! We test drove a 2001 Ford Expedition; the business owner (TK) let us put 500$ down for him to hold it for two weeks until Pops flew out. We found it a bit strange that we couldn't use a check to pay for the vehicle but debit card was okay. When the plate came, he let us pick it up even though the vehicle isn't in our names. After a few minor fluid (oil, radiator, differential, etc) and part changes (wiper blades, etc), Pops was ready to drive it home. I am writing this review because he made it home safely... cross-country, via the 40 (read: through the desert!) in late July. I went to Carmax on a Monday after work, without an appointment, and they were able to see me right away. Since the quote started online, it was an easy process to get registered by scanning a barcode and answering a few questions at the window. Once they test drove the car, the quote was the same. I was then given a list of instructions for my Tesla to reset it to its original factory settings. Please note that you have to do all the steps, even the step for the associate. Once that was done, I was brought over to talk to one of reps who presented the paperwork to sign. It was minimal and the explanation was clear. My balance due at the bank will be handled by Carmax and I was given the remainder of the profit via check. The process was pretty seamless! I'd definitely come back again if I have to sell my car.

Despite this, CarMax Kearny Mesa has been a logistical nightmare. I live in Carlsbad, and after making multiple trips down there (a 45-80 minute haul each way), their 'solution' to a minor insurance delay was to send me an automated Salesforce threat stating they would release the car if I didn't show up for a third time on Monday. Maria is 'off' on Monday, and management is apparently content letting a bot handle their business. They are willing to blow up a guaranteed, funded deal over a 48-hour administrative window. If you want to be treated like a person--especially if you've done the work to prove you're a serious buyer--go literally anywhere else. This isn't 'Express' service; it's a 'computer-says-no' bureaucracy that doesn't care about your time, your commute, or your business.

Purchasing a vehicle is not a fast process, it's an ordeal and long process. We had 4 kids with us that day and they got thirsty and asked for water. Jake offered to get them water, what we didn't know is there wasn't any at the dealership. He ran across the street to the gas station and purchased water bottles for the kids. That wasn't all, when we had to sign papers with finance he was outside watching the kids for us. By the time we got done it was late and there was no one available to detail the car for us. Jake went and got some cleaning supplies and cleaned the inside for us and offered us a carwash for a later date. Not only did he work with us on the purchase of a vehicle, he was attentive with our kids. That type of service is hard to come by.
