Great bakery, couldn't believe only our first time here. Customer service, from ordering to producing to picking up, smooth and A+. Yellow cake with layers of raspberry and topped with delicious buttercream, this birthday cake hit the spot. Highly recommended.

Can't wait to visit this bakery again! Everything was so beautiful and it was really hard to decide what to try. They just had sooo many options and they were all so perfect. We ended up getting a chocolate peanut butter brownie and it was a great choice. Staff was friendly in helping us decide what to order. Will be back.

This bakery in Old Town Arvada is very cute, and they are constantly making fresh baked goods. The service was very prompt and friendly, and we picked up several cakes and cupcakes to try. While everything looked beautiful, we were disappointed by the flavors. The cream cheese frosting is very thick and heavy, and it tastes like eating a block of plain cream cheese. The buttercream frostings were also disappointing (too sweet and tasted like something from the grocery store). While the cakes themselves were moist and light, the frostings made it very difficult to enjoy them. They have a variety of other pastries and seem very popular, so it is possible I ordered the wrong thing and would definitely be willing to give some of their other options a chance.

Rheinlander Bakery is located in Olde Town Arvada and should be on your list to check out if you are desserts. This German inspired bakery can be found a few doors down from The Arvada Tavern with street parking available. While walking around Olde Town with my husband and our little girl dog, I saw this bakery and decided to just go inside and see (sometimes that can be dangerous for the waist and the wallet, lol). My husband and our little girl sat one of the few tables outside the bakery. When I came in, I just started to look at all the baked goods in the glass case, trying to figure out what items I would like to purchase (it would really be a shame if I came in a bakery and walk away without anything). Because there were a few other people in the bakery, I had to wait until an employee was free to help me with my order. A friendly employee behind the counter did ask me how he could help me after waiting a short time (maybe 10 minutes?). He was helpful in providing suggestions and also told me what were some popular items that people purchase (such as their cupcakes and eclairs). I ended up purchasing the following: Chocolate Eclair, $5.98 prior to tax and fees- The employee helping me told me that the filling is made with freshly made custard and not just whipped cream. This eclair was definitely good and a good size for sharing. Pistachio Almond Persian Roll, $3.98 prior to tax and fees- I asked the employee what were these Persian rolls. He told me they are a cinnamon roll that is flatten, and with this particular one, it has some marzipan and crushed pistachios. Oh this dessert was definitely delicious and quite sweet. But the crushed pistachios did a nice job of trying to balance the sweetness (but still on the sweet side). Also a very nice size for sharing. Billionaire Shortbread, $5.98 prior to tax and fees- Oh this was very good, very decadent. I can see why it is known as the "billionaire" shortbread. But the shortbread is a little crumbly though and may be a little messy if you do not eat this with a plate. Sticky Bun, $3.98 prior to tax and fees- I got this for my husband and he consumed it the next day. He thought it was good (he loves cinnamon rolls and figured he would enjoy this). ----------------------------- (Total- $23.11 after tax and fees) I did not know this, nor was there a sign, but I was charged an egg fee on my receipt. Just wanted to bring this up for those that are unaware. My husband and I (our little girl got a few bites Persian roll) ate the chocolate eclair and the Persian roll after I purchased it (we sat at one of the 2 tables outside, there is also a bench). There are plates, plastic utensils and napkins inside the bakery, right by the entrance). The shortbread and sticky bun was consumed later on. Although I was charged a hidden egg fee, I still really enjoyed the baked goods that I purchased. If I lived in this area, I would come back to try some of their other baked goods.

The incredible smell of baking bread and goodies literally pulled me in from the street. The cases and cases of fresh baked treats are absolutely incredible. I bought myself some cherry streusel as well as some chocolate dipped pretzels the staff was exceptionally pleasant and helpful. The building is immaculately clean and the prices are very reasonable for the higher end baked they are making and selling. I'm super glad this bakery isn't in my neighborhood as I would weigh considerably more than I do. If you like fresh baked breads, cakes, muffins etc, this is the place for you. They have real German sour kraut.

I stopped in with my Mom to pick up a birthday cake for her. Even though it was the day before Thanksgiving and completely packed, they ran everything so smoothly. I had a very short wait, attentive, mind and friendly service. We chose princess cake, strawberry rhubarb turnover, cinnamon streusel bun, pistachio cream bun, blueberry lemon strudel, a chocolate chip biscotti, a snickerdoodle, and left to enjoy at home. I'm not exaggerating when I say that every single bite was THE best I've ever had. Just absolutely phenomenal. I'm excited that my birthday is only about a month away and I already have my eye on the Black Forest cake.

Rheinlander is a nice local spot to treat yourself to a coffee and pastry. I was hoping to find some Bienenstich but apparently it is seasonal. Other Euro pastries were available however (Dobash, Nussecken and the usual Strudels). The coffee served here is very flavorful and smooth (Waldschänke) and available in one pound bags for purchase to take home. Rheinlander does offer non-dairy milk options for a slight upcharge. Outdoor cafe table seating is available but VERY limited.

Just wanted to update to say I continue to love coming here. For a sweet treat for myself , or a cake for a celebration, or a latte to walk around olde town with! The quality is always the absolute best! And they still have things like gluten free dairy free etc etc they have it! Amazing Bakery with lots and lots of Gluten-Free Options! Various cupcake flavors, cannolis, various cookies, biscottis, brownies, Bavarians, eclairs, tortes, razzipans, and everything else you can imagine this is a dream bakery whether you are gluten-free or not. Currently for the holidays they offer peppermint patties--these are yummmmmyyyy! I highly recommend this Rheinlander Bakery in downtown Arvada. It's definitely worth the trip.

From the moment you're near the shop you can smell the wonderful aroma of baked goods. Upon entering we were greeted by the attentive employees as we gazed at all the delicious items to choose from. We decided on the Apple strudel slices and cherry streusel roll. We sat outside in their seating area and devoured the one of the delicious treats. It was amazingly tasty and was happy we had another treat to go.

Nom nom nom nom!!! All I can say is absolutely deliciousness that your mouth will drool over as soon as you walk up the street to their lovely bakery. My family has been buying cakes and all the goodies from Rheinlander over two decades and never have we been disappointed. They do have already made cakes available, but if you're looking for a larger cake or their Black Forest cake make sure to order in advance they are in high demand. Also, because this is such a wonderful bakery be prepared to wait in line to be helped. Think of this as extra time to explore their shop and grab a cup of coffee as you wait. Totally worth it! read more

I truly can't say anything about Rheinlander, other than you MUST try it. I mean, if you come to the Denver metro area and you don't make a trip to Rheinlander, then that's just something you're going to have to live with for the rest of your life and I can't help you. Not only does this place have every type of pastry, cookie, and tart imaginable, but they make them gluten free and sugar free too! I haven't tried those varieties because I have no food allergies, but I've heard they are just as good as "the real thing." My life's goal is to try every single item Rheinlander makes. So far, I think I'm at about 6 out of 100. Whatever you try, you can't go wrong. The coffee is also really good and I'm not even that big of a coffee fan. So do yourself a favor. Do NOT pass by this bakery. read more

This place is not what I expected. It's BETTER. Being an old world German bakery, I already knew it'd be full of yummy goodies. To find out it has so much more to offer is phenomenal. 5 of us walked in and 5 of us walked out with goodies for each of us. I've never experienced that. Usually 2 of us would be without because of sugar and 1 of us would soon suffer the consequences of dairy. This lovely gem has surprises after surprises. The choices are plenty...vegan, gluten-free, sugar-free, dairy-free, low glycemic, etc. It's not just 2 vegan items and 3 sugar-free items. There are so many choices of each variety, it took us half an hour to decide. We were like kids in a candy store. Our selections were all delicious. The staff is very knowledgeable and seriously happy to help. If they'd invest in eco-friendly packaging and grain-free options, I'll move to Denver. read more

We visited while we waited for our food at So Radish. Had a cheat moment due to there not being many vegan options and had a peppermint chocolate cookie sandwich, and a white chocolate oatmeal raisin cookie sandwich. They were amazing, would come again and actually have a vegan dessert next time read more

It is not often you find a bakery that has a wide variety of gluten free options. When you order gluten free items they go on a separate table to be boxed so it made me feel very safe. I wish I would've gotten there earlier in the morning because one of my items was hard but the GF carrot cake and pb crisp were really good! read more

Beautiful Bakery in the heart of old town Arvada. There's usually a parking space right near the front door. Plenty to choose from, loads of chocolate covered goodies. Lots of different streusel and rolls. My little girl picked out a chocolate covered cookie.. it was ok. I got a vanilla cream horn, eclair cherry streusel and a cinnamon roll. This was my first time at a German bakery, and it didn't disappoint. There was also a coffee bar.. and some crazy beautiful cakes. There are a couple tables and chairs out front so you can sit and enjoy your baked goods. We will be visiting again. read more

My husband spent a year in Germany and fell in love with it. I've had this bakery on my "to-do" list for awhile but just hadn't made my way over there until now. I had to park down the street a bit since it was a busy Saturday afternoon on Olde Wadsworth. You could smell the bakery from a block away. What a wonderful invitation for your senses ! They were sampling some of their cakes and while I wasn't there to buy a cake, after trying the sample I was very tempted ! I had the white cake with raspberry filling and buttercream frosting. WOW !! The bakery was busy but they had plenty of employees all of whom were smiling and willing to help. I explained I wanted to surprise my husband with some very authentic German pasteries. I walked out $46 later with an Apple Strudel, a Strueselkuchen and 2 cookies for the kids. I did have a bit of sticker shock when the total was rang up but the look and reaction I got from my husband when he opened the boxes at home was priceless. He may have even done a little happy dance ( but don't tell him I told you!). The pastries were just as yummy as they looked if not better. My husband gave them his official german stamp of approval. I have a feeling we'll be back sooner rather than later ! Thanks Rheinlander for helping me bring a little bit of Germany home to my husband ! read more

This bakery is absolutely fantastic! It's a really great family-owned place with a huge selection of both traditional and creative treats. Everything here is so delicious it's dangerous (for my waistline). I highly recommend trying the apple strudel. (I took a whole one home after that.) The Beehive cake is also fantastic. For the gluten-free (or sugar-free), the selection is actually pretty extensive -- and it tasted delicious (which is pretty surprising to me). read more

Their delicacies are out of this world. It is a dream come true for any occasion. The strudel is really good,but being of Austrian decent it needs alittle tweak but it is 90% authentic. All their cakes are phenomenal. Their is not a thing I wouldn't devour. My one and only place to go to. read more

Beat pastries around! Huge selection to close from. This is our favorite place for pastires close to our house. Big pain to get to with all the streets being closed due to covid outdoor dining. If you are in the area, try to stop by if you can find parking. read more

Love this bakery - seriously love it - I mean wake up early drive 30 minutes eat my first pastry in the cold on a metal table kinda love. The selection is large and I eat many of the gluten free selections not because I have a diet restriction, but they are just as delicious as the gluten offerings. So once you pass the pastry you have cookies and other treats and then we get to the strudel slices and rolls. All I can say is don't buy just one item cause you will definitely want a second and maybe a third. Oh and plan ahead because as you exit you will pass the cakes and let's just say I can't wait for this year's birthday cake although I have yet to decide on the flavors. read more

The woman who owns the bakery has celiac disease and really understands #glutenfree. She actually built a completely separate gf bakery upstairs so there is no cross contamination. There is a myriad of tasty gluten free desserts, as well as gf sugar free. Love the carrot cake, it's my fave. If looking for safe gluten free desserts, this is the place to check out. But i do have to say that after a few times visiting, the carrot cake isn't consistently tasty. The last time I had it, a couple weeks ago, I took one bite and threw it out, maybe it was a bad day. They also have a little coffee shop inside for you to enjoy with your desserts. They also have a few tables outside you can bring your desserts out and people watch. read more

When people speak about going to their 'happy place' they must include this bakery experience...this is an egalitarian treat haven. Old world treats done impeccably (e.g. variety of fruit turnovers so light they could float, streusel, cinnamon rolls with crumb topping, black and white cookies (!)), along with inventive 'modern' treats (homemade marshmallow dipped in chocolate), not to mention treats that are sugar and gluten-free. Top it off with cheerful, lovely bakery staff who are at the ready to help and you will know what I mean about "happy place". Note: you must get treats to go, as there is no place inside to sit and partake.. Also, the bakery kitchen is open and viewable from the counter-it is a marvel to watch the bakers work their magic. read more

I loved this place and didn't even know it existed until I walked in on the way back to my car from The Arvada Tavern. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about each of the selections. I ordered a couple of chocolate covered pretzel sticks with varying toppings like sprinkles for my daughter and her boyfriend. They absolutely loved them! I had piece of chocolate cake (forgot the name) that was also excellent! Both were very fresh. This place is a little pricey but worth it for the quality. I don't mind paying a little more if I am receiving the best. Their selection is huge and good for individual portions all the way up to large parties. The picture hear with the beads was called "The King Cake". They were making a bunch, in different sizes. They said it was a special they were doing for Lent and Mardi Gras. How Cool! Loved this place. Will be back. read more

Don't go to this bakery if you have a specific item in mind. I came in to get three different kinds of cakes (all of which were on their website) and none were available, including the Bavarian cream which they specified as a house special. Don't waste the trip, they didn't have anything similar to the carrot cake, Boston cream, or Bavarian cream I drove all the way to Arvada to get after hearing they had the best carrot cake in the city. When I asked about availability, I was told that they sell out quickly so I asked what time would be a safe bet to come next time and they told me they actually weren't making any of those cakes presently and didn't know when they would return. Website is definitely not up to date! read more

They're super helpful and don't stress out over long lines. Customer service a++. BUT I will say, as someone who knows how hard (but also easy) it is to make gluten free things taste somewhat normal, I think they could do a lil better job with their gf tastes and textures. read more

The bakery is cozy and always smells amazing. The staff are friendly and can offer recommendations if you need one. The Black Forest cupcake is my favorite followed closely by the red velvet cake, but you won't be disappointed no matter what you decide to get. read more

Rheinlander Bakery has been serving the Denver Metro Area with some of the world's most treasured baked goods since 1963. Our bakery is traditional and innovative, offering you both legendary strudels, kuchens, fancy European torte cakes as well as some of the US's most enticing gluten free, sugar free, dairy free desserts, cakes and pastries. We are located in the beautiful historic setting of Olde Town Arvada, Colorado.

History

Established in 1963.

Rheinlander Bakery is the Denver Metro area’s oldest bakery. The second owners, Ed and Maro Dimmer, were proud to continue and develop the bakery founded by Jakob and Katharina Dimmer in Arvada's downtown in 1963. Jakob and Katharina Dimmer, immigrants from Germany, specialized in wonderful European style breads and cakes. The original bakery operated under the brand name Dimmer's which eventually was spun off as a European bread only bakery supplying the Denver area with great natural ryes, multigrains and sourdoughs. Rheinlander bakery continued its foundation as Arvada's homegrown retail bakery with a mission to bake better choices for our customers. Today We are famous for our cakes and pastries, as well as our wide selection of treats for those with special dietary needs. Loren and Luke Naftz took over for the Dimmers in 2021 and are carrying on the tradition of fine baking!

Meet the Business Owner: Loren and Luke N.

Loren graduated from Johnson and Wales in 2011 ready to jump into a career of baking, and found her way to Rheinlander Bakery! After learning and working with the previous owners (the Dimmers) for nearly a decade she and her husband took over for them so they could retire. Their son, Perrin, can often be seen running around the bakery, and Loren's sister Danielle is their general manager, so the family business feeling is certainly alive and well!

As of this writing, I haven't had the baguette yet but I can only imagine how delicious it would be (as the kind lady upfront was telling other customer that.) For a great business like GetRight's, I do the drive to get to it from my southeast Denver home. It's my utmost duty to support them.

I was very disappointed when I visited this place. I was told that this is an authentic German bakery. All the baked good looked absolutely gorgeous but had no taste at all. It was just sugar, no real flavor. This is the total opposite of how European Bakerys are. I have spend quite some time in Germany and really enjoyed the coffee and cake culture. But this place was very disappointing. It was way to Americanized. To much sugar and no real flavor. Wouldn't recommend going here. Unless you just want it to look pretty. read more

First of all, if you enjoy spending an arm and a leg, this is your place! SECOND, it is run by nazis (yes they are German) I threw away a plastic bottle in the wrong trash and the owner freaked out and asked if I had kids, I said no, to which he replied "that's why you don't care about the environment" GO HUG A TREE!! Also this clown drives a car...he also must not care about the environment right?!? Anyway, the staff here is complete shit and I do not recommend going here to anyone! This bakery has some of my favorite baked goods around. Their gluten free cakes taste better than most other places normal cakes. Everytime I walk in there I'm always greeted with a smile and fantastic service. My company has even switched to Rheinlander for all our cake needs. I prefer to stop in here for my coffee over any other place as well. Got a friend or family member with allergies, try these guys and gals out! The smells beckon you in and the miniature works of art in every single case are to die for. The prices are comparable to the mass produced flavorless fare at a grocery store bakery.
