The online description of this establishment says "Rhonda's Restaurant is surrounded by nature and plays host to Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, families, hikers, tourists, musicians and more. The food is locally sourced and the atmosphere is homey" but when I pulled up to the venue last night in my Tesla Model S, I found the place riddled with a vicious biker gang and quickly found myself scrambling for cover as they opened fire on me. Nonetheless, it is without a doubt surrounded by beautiful scenery and the place has a very homey feel about it. My favorite restaurant in San Francisco

This place is not a bad option if you want to avoid the cafeteria style lunch at the base area next door. It's a nice and quiet getaway from the busy slopes. That being said, I felt that most of the food left a bit to be desired. To start, we got the chips, salsa, and green chile queso. It sounded delicious on the menu. I grabbed a chip before the dips went down, and after I tasted it, it was clear that this was just a cheap tortilla chip with no flavor. As for the salsa, I know my salsas pretty well, and I'm fairly certain we just got a pour of pace picante - either that or its generic alternative. The green chile queso? It was essentially velveeta cheese with a few green chiles mixed in. For my main course, the server really recommended the turkey dumpling soup so I had that and a chorizo taco. The turkey dumpling soup was bland and not that interesting, but my taco was pretty freaking good. My wife had the BLAT (bacon lettuce avocado tomato) with sweet potato fries and both were pretty standard. Not great. Not bad. So look - this place isn't a bad spot at all. It's nice to have a reasonably priced meal and a beer while not having to fight for a table in the cafeteria. My advice would be to stick to the staples of this type of place. Get the burger, pulled pork sandwich, etc. Don't try and get cute with something like "green chile queso" or you'll be disappointed!

We finally found the right place during spring break here, it was our last night in Taos and I'm happy to say this place gave us a good experience. First night at Stray Dog was ridiculous, second night we ordered pizza (disappointing) but the third night here was NICE. I had a salad with steak (delicious) my husband had fajitas, my son a burrito, my daughter had the nachos (they're huge), everything was very nice. The churros hit the spot.

The only thing that could have been better is skipping pickled jalapeños and using fresh instead.

I ordered chile rellenos with red and green chile sauce (Christmas) and they were some of the best I've ever had. The prices were some of the lowest I'd seen in Taos and the food exceptional. Finally we figured it had been put on the wrong side of the Main Street so we went the other way and ended up hungry and ready for a drink and dinner. The only negative is that I couldn't get a margarita other than the wine margaritas they have. Since there is a sweet and sour mix in them I went for a white wine instead and it was perfect for the day. We ordered our drinks and chips and guacamole to get started while we looked at the menu. Our server was super and we sat on the patio in the shade which was lovely. There was plenty of shade for the hot day. To stave off our hunger while we looked at the menu we ordered the chips and salsa with guacamole. The salsa was fabulous as was the rest but I had to comment on the salsa because so often these days it's just too tomato-y or bland. This was flavorful and had a bit of spice. For dinner, we ordered the steak tampiquena and I would get it again. Savory, perfectly cooked and hearty. Check this place out if you are visiting!

They have a very nice outside patio with umbrellas and also an indoor dining area. The bathroom is inside the kitchen, so you will see them cooking if you have to go. Luckily we arrived before the place got completely packed. I ordered the chicken blue corn enchiladas with green chile and an over medium egg on top. This came with posole and beans on the side. All this for $16. The enchiladas were stacked and they were packed with chicken. A very nice bite to the chile and egg yolk completed the flavors. Posole and beans were hot and well seasoned. A filling and flavorful lunch. Well worth the stop. Just a note: they aren't opened on Sundays. Monday through Saturdays, lunch is served from 10:30 until 3 PM and supper from 5 to 9 PM. A Texan waiting for the bathroom told me he always orders exactly what I ordered. I would highly recommend it.

As well as a WWII vet and allegedly over a hundred years old. What an achievement! So this place has been around for a long freaking time. They have very fair prices for drinks. The only downside to the bar is that their hours are very odd and every time I've visited and been intrigued about checking out the joint they've either just closed or I came on the wrong day. Lucked out with coming on a weekday around noon. They also have beer and wine to purchase to go. Will definitely come back next time I'm in New Mexico.
