Wow this was unexpected! We had high hopes. Right when we entered we had some unfriendly help. We were not aware that no samples were allowed.. our biggest mistake! There are no non dairy options, just an FYI. The lemon lacked flavor, depth, and tasted quiet mute. I pitty the cow who's milk was used honestly. Some of the worst lemon ice cream I've had before. The peach ice cream tasted like freezer burnt yogurt. Not my favorite at all. That being said, the Mexican chocolate was great. The ice cream was definitely not worth the price! The scoopers were very nice, but the cashier was quite rude, and felt he was fairly unprofessional. We liked the microphone though. read more

Taos Cow has been my #1 favorite since they opened a hundred years ago! Their Guiredelli (sp?) chocolate is the best chocolate I've ever had. Vanilla is excellent by itself or mixed with nuts, salted caramel, berries. Not a fan of lemon, peach or lavender, but everything else is awesome. Many people love the lavender and lemon. Loved the outdoor seating area. Had an easy, chill vibe. We missed this place last year because they close at 5 and we wanted ice cream after dinner (come on, Taos!). Stopped in this week and were excited to try their flavors. They don't do samples, which is kind of disappointing when you're not sure what you want. The piñón caramel and pecan nougat had great flavor and were not overly sweet. The cafe Oreo was okay, neither flavor very prominent. The raspberry was nice and refreshing. However, we were kind of underwhelmed overall. The ice cream isn't very creamy--it's much more icy than creamy. If you're looking for a thick, custardy ice cream, this is not that. read more

Stopped by one morning for a quick bagel sandwich to give me the energy I needed to tear up the slopes all day. Ordering was a bit odd thought a microphone but we managed it and I paid using my cc. I hung out on the nice bench while I sandwich was prepared and after a few minutes my name was called and breakfast was served. If the ice cream was above par it might be worth it to deal with the absolutely abhorrent staff. To date, I've never had to interact with worse staff. (And I've gone to coffee shops in seattle!) We were staying nearby so we tried twice just in case the first time was a fluke or a bad day. Nope. First time, as it's ice cream, I asked to try a flavor. The lady said "no" Just "no" which I thought was a quip since the only reason I thought anyone would say it in that way was a joke pretending to say what a rude unhelpful person would say. Turns out I was mistaken. "No" followed by silence and waiting on me to choose. Here's the deal, if it's policy to not give samples, that's fine. I don't need to break rules, but there was no sign and no explanation. Just someone waiting on me to choose without knowing how well they made the flavors. My wife got some and I opted out. It was only ok. The creek was beautiful nearby though. The second time we went (assuming it was just poor hiring practices or a family member of the owner who they had to hire and that when we went back it would be better.) we went to try the food. Because there has to be SOME reason this place is still in business. (Spoiler: it's just location.) So we sidled up to the counter and asked for the sandwich we chose from the menu. And you'll never guess what they said. "No" Truly just "no" If you've seen Seinfeld you'll remember the soup nazi and the hilarity that ensues. The difference here is that our experience with what they sold is only par nothing worth the ardor of having to do the staff's work for them to understand why our request was just met with "no" So we waited. Again (naïvely) assuming it was a joke. When we didn't leave he said the kitchen (a hot plate and microwave) was closed without any suggestion or explanation. I can only assume he did us a favor and saved us a mediocre meal maybe even food poisoning. There's a co-op a block from there, they sell pints of ice cream for a better price. Go there. Save yourself some money and difficulty. Plenty of space on the river to sit and enjoy. read more

This would easily be five stars if this wasn't New York prices and a smidgeon friendlier. I noticed this spot numerous times coming up the mountain, round the bend and passing through town. We ended up walking roughly three miles from where we were staying to come into town one day because neither of us drive, we were stranded, and I was feeling antsy and up for an adventure. This was definitely on my list of things to try. They close pretty early I think so your best bet is to get there before 4pm. This ice cream stand doesn't just sell ice cream but also food. Which was done being made for the day after 3pm. But I was here for what was advertised. For a single scoop it's $6 and getting it in a waffle cone an extra $1, which we both did. Our ice creams came out to roughly $15 and I'm not sure if they accept cash but there was a machine pushed in front of my face so it was suggested that I do credit. And it's also suggested that you tip 18-20% on top of your $15 for 2 ice cream cones. Where the hell am I?! When the ice creams were paid for and handed over, the sliding window was aggressively slammed shut without a word. I would rate this down a star but the ice cream speaks for itself and is pretty amazing. I'm not a fruit person but went with an odd flavor "Holstein Sunset" (Strawberry ice cream with white, dark, and milk chocolate chunks). The strawberry base was white in color and tasted non-artificial. I don't think I've ever experienced this in my life. The myriad of chocolate chunks were delicious and the perfect balance. My companion is ridiculous and only ever gets vanilla ice cream. There were plenty of other tempting flavors like "Chocolate Malt Oreo", "Fresh Blueberry", "Grasshopper" (Mint with Oreos), "Pistachio White Chocolate". Hell, I would be here every damn day trying a new flavor if they knocked off a dollar and I had a motor vehicle to access. The woman taking the order seemed highly annoyed at any question we asked about options, and even more annoyed when we ordered a waffle cone, which is on their menu, but which they were out of. Apparently we were supposed to know that they were out? The prices for ice creme are insane. I got one small single scoop about the size of a racquet ball, and it was $6. My wife and son got 2 scoops and it was $8 for each of theirs. $26 with tax. Then they got the order wrong and seemed annoyed, again, when we asked for the cone that we ordered but didn't get. My daughter and I went to Taos today and saw Taos cow on the side of the road and decided to stop and get some food and ice cream. This was our first time there. When we walked up to the window nobody greeted us or welcomed us at all. We walked over to the food menu and looked at it for about 10 minutes until one of the workers decided to let us know that they were no longer serving food. We said OK we will just get ice cream. The staff seemed extremely hostile. There were three people working and they all looked like they wanted nothing to do with us and we felt completely out of place. As we stood in front of one of the windows one of the guys said to us this is the pick up window you need to go to that window to order...then you will come back to this window and pick it up. He had such a condescending voice it was really irritating. Of course the woman who took our orders got them wrong and gave my daughter the wrong ice cream. When we said the order is wrong the man with the condescending voice acted as if we were the ones who made the mistake. One of the worker suggested how he can fix our ice cream. He said "well, I have to take the top ice cream off to get to the one that is the wrong flavor so how am I going to do that?" And one of the other worker said, "well you make the decision on how you want to do it." it was so completely uncomfortable. When we left they just stood there in silence. I don't understand these sort of attitudes. To think one of the girls actually thought I was going to give her a tip! For what? Rude ass behavior? And who closes the kitchen at 1 PM? They were extremely rough around the edges and we will definitely never be back. read more

Used to come here regularly after taking my dog on the 30 minute walk to Seco. Was nice to sit in the shade with my dog and enjoy a snack after a long walk. Unfortunately animals have since been banned on the entirely outdoor premises (which used to be the parking lot), so I probably won't be going anymore considering the neighboring places have dog friendly patios. Best I've cream I've ever had. I got the fresh raspberry ice cream and mixed it with the Madagascar vanilla ice cream and wow... my wife got the grasshopper ice cream and she loved hers as well. We ate out back with our dog and it was a wonderful experience. I was vacationing out of a rented home in Taos and my mother-in-law was the one who told me of Taos Cow. Voted one of the top 10 ice cream shops in 2009 by Bon Apetite...and located in such a small town, I immediately bookmarked the spot & GPS. I'm in!! There's a parking lot that fits about a dozen cars & I noticed that most were local plates. Upon entering, it reminded me of a large mom & pop coffee shop; wooden floors, handwritten signs and even a blurb that all the food is made by 1 person & they appreciate the patience on waiting for the hot menu items. I love the coziness of it all! I started with the $9.25 green chile philly on a milano sub w white american and grilled red onion. The meat was tender and juicy but the zing and flavour from the green chile was what sold me. It had a tasty heat with a bite but no lingering after burn. That being said, I still dove whole heartedly into neutralizing my taste buds with the infamous ice cream. I sampled the mexican chocolate, raspberry dark chocolate and the mint chocolate chip. My nephew did not think the latter was minty enough but I loved the subtle taste and thick chunks of chocolate. I had planned on ordering a double scoop to share with the kids but employee said it would close to a pint(!) and said she could split the single into 2 flavors. (Single scoop is $4.50 and a double is $6.50.) The raspberry with dark chocolate was refreshingly fruity and had a icey smooth texture. The mexican chocolate had a light hint of cinnamon and same thick chunks of dark chocolate. The texture was thicker and less icey but that is probably due to the water from the fruit. All in all the mexican chocolate got my vote. Definitely stop in if you're even remotely in the area. I also strongly suggest eating out by the creek which is about 10 feet away. There are tables, chairs and a large L-shaped bench. Its a perfect setting for a delicious treat! read more

Okay guys I really like ice cream. This review is not about the ice cream, which is still really solid. Order the Reuben with green chilies. I recently visited the area and stopped at a local cafe across the street for some salad and sandwiches. We walked across the street to have some ice cream for dessert. I don't know if it was my sixth sense or seventh, but after ordering a double scoop I felt compelled to order a Reuben. Best decision of my life. The crunchy bread, lots of gooey cheese and perfect ratio of kraut and 1000 island made this one of my very favorite bang-bang experiences of my life. We come every single day we are in Taos. Such an awesome place to eat and have small batch ice cream. We both had the Holstein Sunset today. Yummy! I can't believe it is my first review! We went back on Sunday for breakfast and had an amazing experience food wise. The only downside was a local got in our face about breaking in line. 1. There was no line when we arrived. 2. He came in after and would have formed said line behind us and 3. He only had to say where the line was not being rude and hateful to us would have been a nice start. Not sure if that is how locals act I will go back for more than just ice cream-geesh! read more

So if you happen to be in the middle of nowhere in northern New Mexico and you need a little pick me up, stop here. After enjoying some good, spicy Mexican food down the street, we simply couldn't pass this place by without trying it. We shared a 2-scoop cup of fresh raspberry and coffee ice cream and got plenty. HUGE scoops of fresh, creamy ice cream that really hit the spot on a warm afternoon. The rest of menu looked interesting as well - coffee and teas, bagel sandwiches and salads - we are in the area another couple of days and may have to stop by again. Yummy!! read more

Super cute place in Arroyo Seco! This place must do a great business feeding delicious treats to all the skiers on their way to and from the mountain! Their menu looked like they had a variety of delicious things to get, but we got the ice cream, which is why the review is only 4 stars instead of 5. Instead of the ice cream being smooth and creamy, it was on the icier / slushier side. Hot Turkey and Brie Sandwich with mixed greens, honey mustard, and balsamic vinaigrette on a ciabatta roll, served with a pickle and chips - Excellent ratio of meat to greens and the taste, especially of the ciabatta roll itself, was so good. Lots of melted gooey Brie, offset by the sweet sharpness of the honey mustard, and a nice helping of thin-sliced turkey. Lavender Ice Cream, which is their rGBH-free Sweet Cream ice cream base flavored with organic lavender from Los Poblanos in Los Ranchos de ABQ, in a Waffle Cone - This smelled amazing when I got it; I literally couldn't stop sniffing it for a few moments! There were bits of lavender mixed throughout, making it so incredibly fragrant. The taste and texture was superb, with the lavender flavor gradually emerging the longer I held the ice cream in my mouth and the more I ate. Cone was not too sweet, so it complemented the ice cream well. If I had to nitpick, it would be that the ice cream base could be just a tad less sweet to let more lavender shine through.
