My new fiancé and I were staying at a Getaway cabin nearby and this place was recommended to us. We were going to be celebrating our engagement so I emailed ahead of time and the owner offered to decorate a nice table for us and it was beautiful and made the night very special. The couple ran the entire place themselves and were very kind, talking to us as they walked by. We asked for a wine recommendation and the owner surprised us and it was one of the best bottles we've had in a long time. We started with a garlic butter mushroom dish which was incredible. I got the braised short ribs (one of their most popular dish) and she got the beef lasagna. Both were perfect and very flavorful. We finished up with the Spanish Flan. All of the food was delicious, great portions, and the prices for the food and bottles of wine were beyond reasonable. We will absolutely come back if we're ever in the area again! read more

I had the best dining experience here. I was staying in the Getaway Cabins not too far from here and wanted to do something special while we were there. We were welcomed so graciously by the couple that ran this place and the whole experience felt very intimate. We had great conversation with them while we had our meal. I tried the frozen sangria which tasted great and the braised short ribs were so tender and delicious. I felt like everything I had was perfectly proportioned and delicious. The flan was also an amazing way to end our dinner. One thing to note is that they go by reservation only so make sure to book in advance. We had the charcuterie board which was fantastic, the seafood paella was tasteful, full of seafoods ( I want to remind people they are a few different seafood paella recipes out there) and the dessert Spanish flan did not disappoint at all! Highly recommend this gem. I love that you can find a place like this in the area with a European flavor. We will definitely come back. And yes you must make reservations which was easy to make. LOVE this place! We have been fans for years, and my grandparents are weekly attendees. It is a very cozy place only open 3 days a week and it has a limited menu, but what they serve is usually excellent. As close to fine dining as you will get in Basye! I do not understand how this place survives. We were at the Bryce resort for a week. The RHouse was close to our condo. I was looking forward to the mushroom dishes on the menu. We made reservations a month in advance. It is a quiet place. I was grateful for that. Pretty enough. We were warned by the host that the seat on one side of the table was not comfortable if you sat in the middle. It was not comfortable period. We ordered the night special of shrimp in wine sauce. Some, he said, had it as an entree. We shared it. It was good but not special. We ordered the mushroom fondue and the short ribs. I am not sure there were 10 mushroom slices in an entree dish that went for $18. The cheese did not taste like fontina. The short ribs ($29) were more like pot roast with overdone carrots and potatoes that tasted like flaked instant. The portions were small. I do not recall spending so much money, for so little food that tasted less than average. Go to the pizza place next door. Their Detroit pizza at least had some good flavor. read more

So I cannot begin to tell you how welcomed a surprise this place is. We got the recommendation from a local winery and it certainly lived up. The food is fresh and comes out hot. The atmosphere is very welcoming and feels like a home. This is further accentuated by the staff. It is family run and you can tell. They are super friendly and personable. The food is just amazing and they have a great selection of wines. Their beer selection is pretty good. I'm an IPA guy and I had 2 or 3 options. My wife had some great Spanish wine. Price wise I'd consider it very reasonable for the quality, coming from DC, the price was fine but compared to the rest of bayse it might be on the higher end ... the quality however is well beyond and absolutely worth it. read more

Just came back from the restaurant where my husband and I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary. What a FANTASTIC experience. The food was superb, but the personal service we have received from the owners was what made this dining experience even better. Someone told us that there is one negative review was left because people were turned away. The restaurant has a policy of RESERVATION only to make the dining experience better. So ignore that review, make a reservation and treat yourself to a memorable meal in one of the nicest restaurants in the area. read more

Disappointing..I had been here once before and was looking forward to sharing a nice meal during a girls' weekend. Even on this first trip I had been disappointed in the braised short ribs (no flavor) but my husband's meal of the maple baby back ribs was so delicious I was willing to go back. They were out of the ribs which are outstanding-the only reason I had suggested the restaurant. They were also out of the cider that my friend tried to order. We tried to rally and we all ordered the lasagna- chicken or beef for the entire group. The chicken lasagna was swimming in puddles of Alfredo. The beef lasagna had a lovely flavor but the noodles in all the dishes were overcooked mush. I literally ate about two bites. I will say that all the salads were beautiful and delicious. There was a party of 6 who was so loud and obnoxious that the other patrons and my party cheered when they finally left. My group usually splits the tab but I was so embarrassed (as the host for the weekend) that I insisted on paying for the entire meal- $200 wasted for an abysmal experience. Juan was gracious and helped us with our wine selection. Lisa, who served us, was helpful with the food selection and very competent. RHouse is a contender with the Michelin star restaurants I have visited. The establishment is beautifully designed. The owners (Juan and his lovely wife) make dinning an experience from start to finish. The menu and wine selection were second to none. The spinach artichoke dip and charcuterie were amazing. We also had the chicken verde, the winter salad, the baby back ribs, and the chicken lasagna and could not decide which dish was our favorite. We were celebrating my 39th birthday during our visit and the owner's wife (who is also the amazingly talented chef) agreed to make a delicious cake for us to celebrate. We stayed in Basye for 2 months in the spring and had occasion to eat at RHouse shortly before we left. The service & ambiance were great. With notice, the owner accommodated our paella request even though it wasn't on the menu at that time. It was delicious. We really enjoyed the meat & cheese plate, as well, but the real star of the show was the frozen sangria that puts all other sangria to shame. It's a must get! read more

Very cliquish, we went for Valentines Day and had a confirmed reservation via email, manager/male owner couldn't find it and got very aggressive with us when we insisted we had one and showed him the emailed confirmation. Asked us what we expected, should he just remove someone from their table. We ended up sitting at a small table in the lobby. Later in the week the female owner/chef emailed apologizing for the mix up, needless to say we wouldn't be back and we live in the area so it was a shame. That's the short version. We had the pleasure of eating at Rhouse on June 9. We arrived a bit early and were able to talk with the owners. What a great experience. She recommended the Cheese and Charcuterie Platter and the Mushroom Fontina Fonduta which were both delicious. My wife then had the Winter Salad and I had the Short Ribs. Wonderful! Nice place, good waitress service, but... Totally over priced, especially for the portions. Small Shrimp risotto $29. Paella was awful! wasn't even near the taste of authentic paella flavor. Our son was married at Bryce Resort in Bayse, Virginia, and we hosted the wedding rehearsal dinner for 50 people at RHouse wine & café. We couldn't have been more pleased! From the initial cold call I made to find a place hundreds of miles from my home in Ann Arbor, to the delicious finished menu and beautiful atmosphere, Juan was calm, flexible, and incredibly helpful. Gisela is an outstanding chef. Her hors d'oeuvres were not only tasty but artfully presented, the braised short ribs and vegetarian paella flavorful and generously portioned, and the salads garden fresh. The wine choices they included paired excellently with the menu. And the frozen sangria was the best! (Very wine-forward, not too sweet at all.) As our son's and his new wife's family and friends gathered from around the country and the world, the warm atmosphere got the wedding weekend off to a perfect start.
