I've heard such good things about Ri Le, so I was definitely disappointed when I left. The menu was very underwhelming. I expected a lot more of the staple Vietnamese dishes I was used to (Bánh cun, Ca Kho To, Bánh xèo, Cm tm???). I saw the menu and it looked like mostly stir fried (Chinese-style) dishes. They don't even have descriptions for each menu item, which was really frustrating. How am I supposed to know what "the love speech" is?? I settled on the deluxe bun cha gio. It was meh. Definitely have had better + bigger portions for the same price. Service was nice for us, though, so +1 for that. If you're looking for a Viet place, there are way better in Tulsa. read more

Ri Le's (pronounced "Ree-Lays") has been around for over 20 years, creating delicious Vietnamese dishes and catering to vegetarian and vegan diets. I'm neither, but can appreciate a meal where I don't even think about it not having any meat, and this is the place for that. We let Ri Le plan our meal and bring out whatever he thought we needed that night. The spring rolls and egg rolls are a great starter item. He also served us the strawberry soys (his house prepared soy meat substitute) beef and chicken dishes. These were both very similar to me, and too sweet for my preference, but they were still satisfying. But the winner of the night for sure was the noodle pizza. I highly recommend getting this, it would even make a great appetizer if ordered ahead of time. Overall, we had a great experience and I can't wait to get that noodle pizza again. Cheyenne and I ventured out to South Tulsa to try this place after she heard great things from an old friend. It's located in a small strip mall over by where the new Whole Foods will be - quite an easy area to get around in. After walking inside, we had a "this is a really cool place!" moment and were seated by the sweetest lady. The menu is large and is separated by chicken, beef, or vegetable dishes. Some dishes are named things that make zero sense with no description like "the love story". When I'm feeling adventurous, I'm going to come back and order one of these dishes and be surprised! I decided on the mixed soy chicken and been lo mein. The noodles were a pass for me and kind of reminded of what you would get at a small mall food court. However, the veggies and soy meat were great. Tip: Order extra peanut sauce. Mmmm. When we asked our waiter what we should get as an appetizer, he said a lot of things and told us he would choose for us. We giggled and agreed. Some pretty good rolls were brought out and we licked the plate -wish I could tell you what they were! So, just let the waiter order for you. Ri Le's is a staple in my house and we have it a couple times a month. The chicken soup taste different than any soup I've had before, and that's a good thing. I've yet to try the Vietnamese pizza but it's on the list. The egg rolls are crispy and delicious and the sauce they provide goes well on everything that comes out of the kitchen. Now Mr. Le has created a 1 of a kind "pizza" made of rice noodles, lemon grass, sesame seeds (vegan, GF!) But it is soooooo yummy! Me and my better half made our 2nd visit to this establishment which was less than stellar. We came here the week before, and had a nice conversation with the actual owner. It was a pleasant experience other than our not so attentive waitress. Well, our second time around i'm pretty sure the owner was not there. Our experience was polar opposite than the first. We had the same young waitress who could careless about being there. I ordered the house special fried rice, shrimp w/ broccoli, and the lumpia dogs for an appetizer. The lupia dog was simply a burnt egg roll with a hot dog weiner inside. The house fried rice had literally nothing in it, but some egg with some bean sprouts on top. It was supposed to have four meats, but the waitress had to look through it and didn't see anything either. The shrimp w/ broccoli was simply pathetic. It was about 1/3 the portion size of anywhere else, and was cold and stale tasting. I sent all 3 items back and did not ask for anything else. It was not a money thing, I wouldn't have cared what it cost as long as the food was good. We did pay for the other items which were the vietnamese pizza, imperial rolls, small chicken soup, along with our drinks. An older gentleman came out later, who I believe is the owner's son. While he was walking past us he popped off with the remark "next time you come here you will have to pay for everything." I politely informed him not to worry because we would not be back. He was passive aggressive and would not make eye contact. After I paid for our meal and we were already inside our vehicle, this same gentleman came outside just so he could glare at us. I gave him a smile while we were leaving which aggitated him further, so he decided to flip me off. We drive from Bartlesville into Tulsa and there are much better establishments to spend one's money. This was just sad on so many levels. I'm pretty sure this restaurant is better if the owner is present. It's a shame that a person as nice as he is has to lose customers due to the actions of his family. I also hate to leave such a negative review, but I feel that I have no choice under the circumstances. read more

Pho real! Had the beef pho on a cold Tulsa afternoon and it was delicious and comforting. You know how the bean sprouts, cilantro and accompaniments usually come raw on a separate plate? Well in this case they add it to the soup beforehand so you don't have to add yourself. I thought I would be disappointed as I really like the raw veggies but it was still yummy. I've been going to Ri Le's for YEARS and it is the Vietnamese restaurant by which I measure all other Vietnamese food. I have yet to find a place in Austin that compares. Specifically, their eggrolls are some of the best. They are thinner and crispier than most places, which tend to resemble what you'd get at your Chinese drive thru fast food chain. I always order one of the bun bowls and get extra eggrolls to throw on top. YUM! Ri Le's was also the first place that I ever tried tofu. And I know it sounds odd, but the tofu strawberry soy is out of this world. The sesame is good as well. And of course you can get this with any meat and it's just as good. FINALLY a delicious vegan pho! This is the 1 dishes I've missed since becoming Vegan. I've tried in it several states and the vegetable/vegan pho always tastes and looks like the saddest veggie noodle soup - straight up depressing and discouraging. I went to Ri Le's and had my prayers answered! It tastes exactly like what I remember pho to taste like and doesn't miss a flavor note just because it's vegan. I also heard their vegan/vegetarian menu was slamming and it was all the vegan Okies raved about. We had the imperial veggie rolls were delicious, my husband had the hot dog lumpias which were kinda weird sounding but per him and my twin 3 year olds it was yummy. I ordered the veggie Lo mien which was ok but I wouldn't order it again. My hubs had the pork fried rice which was a good portion and delicious. The staff was busy but the owner did come out to greet our family and even returned to say goodbye to our littles. We asked to order when we ordered an appetizer because the wait was so incredibly long (over 30 minutes at the table for 6 people and the restaurant was not even close to full, 15 just to get drinks). Literally some of the BEST fried rice I've ever had, with a hint of lemongrass it really puts it over the top! The chef came to each table to ensure the quality was up to par, I love that. And the selection of vegetarian and meatless entrees is just amazing. We usually go as a group and ask Ri to give us his special. They bring us spring rolls, egg rolls, and then enough entrees and rice to make sure we are all full and happy. Don't confuse this with those fast food asian and chinese places that deep fry everything and cover everything in grease. A trip to Ri Le's will end with you smiling from ear to ear. Love this place. I'm always telling friends to go check it out and give it a try. My favorite thing on the menu is the Lumpia Dogs. Amazing spring roll type treats stuffed with little hot dogs, oh so delicious. I recommend trying to dip them in the sweet pepper sauce. Although I've never had anything bad from here I'd say you need to try the Hoisin beef, this was the first thing I got hooked on. Also the chicken sesame and hot and spicy ginger chicken is very good. Plus always get an order of sweet and sour chicken to split. The breading on the chicken is amazing and cooked golden brown. You can use this to dip in all the different sauces they have. The service is also friendly and helpful. This is a cant miss spot for a date if you want to show her a little something different without going completely out of the flavor profile she's accustomed to and normally they are not extremely busy. read more

When we got there we were told the price had changed but it hadn't been updated and we were charged $75. The food was not even good. Apparently this Vietnamese restaurant has been around for many years and is a favorite among many Tulsans. The bf wanted to take me here to see what I thought of the food since his family occasionally gets to-go orders from the restaurant (and he probably figures that since I'm Vietnamese, I'll know if the food here is actually good or not.. which, not to toot my own horn, but I do, hehe.) The menu was a little difficult for me to order from because it's in English and I'm used to the Vietnamese names, but it wasn't a big deal because if I had questions I could just ask the Vietnamese speaking servers. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was alright, not bad. Ingredients tasted fresh, entrees tasted like they were supposed to. No complaints, really. This restaurant is a good introduction to Vietnamese food for people who are unfamiliar with the dishes. I wouldn't mind coming back again if I were in town and craving some Viet food! I made it a goal to try all the pho joints in town, out of the 3 I've been to, this places first. The broth was pretty good and helped my cold at the time. I had the pho ga (special chicken soup). The title of it threw me off completely, chicken soup sounds so vague and begs you to question its origins. But Ri Le has pretty much reinvented they way they serve their pho. First of all, everything you need is already IN the bowl. No need to pluck the mint leaves to personalize your flavors. The sprouts are already there. onions too. So no plate of fresh veges and lemon. :[ The noodles are cut up into shorter segments. The chicken is cut into thin slices (like how the beef slices are usually cut). No sauce dipping bowl for the hoison sauce/sriracha. And to my utter disappointment, I was given a fork to consume what was in front of me. Don't get me wrong, different isn't always a bad thing.. I asked for a pair of chopsticks then inhaled my bowl of pho in under 15 minutes. It was good, yeah, but its portions were small. A large bowl here is probably the size of a small in California. The owners are such sweet and gracious hosts. They truly make you feel like you are in their home and they want to please you. My husband didn't know what he wanted to try and the owner said , "don't worry I'll fix you something special". He did just that and it was a great meal! If you go for lunch during the week it can be busy, but you can call for takeout. Pho tastic! Ri Le's calls their Pho "Special Soup" but for those you who love traditional pho this is the real deal. The soup is prepared with all fresh ingredients. You have to ask for chili sauce and lime, they don't bring it automatically because they say most people use too much. So just ask. We also enjoyed yummy Springrolls and a tofu chicken.
