Call it absent mindedness but this review has been a long time coming. The Rialto café is a small joint in downtown Fullerton off Wilshire that my wife had her eyes on for quite a while but because we knew it was often very busy we put off our initial visit for far too long. We finally decided to give the place a try and because of how busy we knew they got we arrived early to find the gentleman still setting up the tables inside and out. He informed us that it would be a few minutes and he would let us know as soon as he opened so we could grab a seat. Unbeknownst to us a slew of regular customers began to flood the area outside the door and begin to file in as we sat there waiting for the signal. We were finally given the green light and by this time despite us arriving first only a handful of seats were left available. We quickly took a seat at the assuming table in the back of the restaurant. Despite the stampede of regular customers who appeared to want their designated seats, the gentleman working was kind enough to recognize that we had arrived first and took our order ahead of the group which was nice. I guess sometimes it does pay to be patient. I did a bit of my homework coming in so I had a pretty good understanding of the choices on the menu and quickly ordered up a Denver Omelet with bacon substituted for the ham and the breakfast potatoes (served until gone). My wife went with her normal eggs benedict and side of fruit. The omelet and the potatoes (home fries but with French fries instead of the normal hash brown or chopped potato variety) were delicious and cooked nicely. My wife also seemed to enjoy her eggs benedict which has become a bit of a breakfast staple for her. The gentleman server we had was very friendly and on point throughout the meal but the girl that came in late and began to help with the bills was far from friendly. Upon the conclusion of our meal she practically slammed the jar with the bill on the table without so much as muttering a word of thanks or anything as she was far too busy chatting up with the regulars. This irritated me to no end as just because we do not frequent your establishment, business these days is all about first impressions and to feel like you are a second class citizen is never a good feeling. The prices here are also a bit higher than some of the other places we normally frequent on a more consistent basis. By the time we were done the place was flooded with people outside waiting as well as people practically sitting on top of our table with little kids jumping around near the back wall which was making me feel very claustrophobic. I don't blame the place for the crowd as that's a good thing to be busy but to allow them to gather around the guests who are finishing up their meals is a bit much. The food quality alone is a definitive 5 stars but the service from the girl who brought our check, the lack of control over the people inside and sitting back watching the regular customers open and close doors (because they are hot and/or cold) all willy nilly as if they run the place was a bit disappointing. I am sure we will be back again to give the place another try as it is very good but this will more than likely not become a regular stop for us. not good but not bad. i believe what you are paying for is the ambiance. their outdoor seating is nice , and seated quickly during non peak hours (lunch time) on a weekday i cant comment on much of the food, as i only ordered a fruit cup for my son and a coffee. friend had a pancake they do have service with a smile which is one redeeming thing. ice coffee comes in a container like a protein shake. i didn't mind that it was that way, but some people might. think i'll try the smoking tiger place next door for a nice drink instead next time. my friends pancake looked fine . 8 dollars for one flapjack no fancy plating just kinda there. the fruit cup i ordered for my turdler was fresh i'll give it that. blackberries , strawberry, blueberry would try more of their food if i had been hungry but just wanted to catch up with my friend. read more

Came here on a Monday morning for brunch and was not disappointed! There is a parking structure right across the street and it's free! Table for two had no wait and we sat outside. A bit breezy but still a nice day to eat outside. Our servers were stupidly nice and made my party feel very welcomed. We ordered the french toast, eggs benedict, and the salmon scrambled, all of which were so good. Granted I was hella hungry but the smell alone made it so good. The egg dishes came with sides as well, so there is plenty of food around! Sliced french baguette with sun dried tomato spread topped with fried sunny side eggs, blue cheese and bruschetta..OH MY! Looked beautiful and it was really good. I licked my plate clean. 3. Wilshire Omelette - big order of omelette filled with veggies and lots of cheese. Hubby loved this and so did I. 4. Hash browns - came with each plate and I was surprised at how non-greasy it was. Loved the crunch of it. I am loving the small and cozy charm to this place. The flavors of the food is amazing and gourmet crossed my mind while eating my Rialto Rancheros. Located in Fullerton, Rialto Cafe is a small cafe that I felt fortunate to patronize, as an out-of-town selection. My daughter, who resides in nearby Anaheim suggested it. Both times I have been, the Cafe was very busy, with an acceptable wait time. This gourmet style diner presents delicious servings. There are certain vegetarian and vegan friendly selections. I like the Breakfast Burrito, "Becky Style." The retro style at Rialto Cafe lends toward comfortable yet cozy dining. Seating is close together, noise might be a factor for some. Located just off the busy street of Harbor Blvd stands this cute little must see and taste cafe. A few small tables for the front patio noted but we decided to sit inside. Very little square footage inside. But counter seats available if you're dining solo. Fortunately, we were able to get a cozy table in the corner. I had the eggs benedict. Ofcourse. Hollandaise sauce was definitely packed with awesome flavor. And my companion ordered the spinach and mushroom crepe. For someone who doesn't care for mushrooms (me) it was actually very savory. This is one of those reviews that I started in my head a LONG time ago and then I felt the pressure of actually sitting down and writing because this place is almost so damn perfect and I wouldn't want to sell it short. My favorite time to go to Rialto is around the mid morning hour so you can sit back and relax and enjoy a heaping cup of coffee and breakfast. I have had their lunch/dinner before and what I love is that they are veggie/vegan friendly with almost all of their meals. The best service you will get will always be from the owner, who is a total babe by the way. I love supporting Rialto because they support the Fullerton community too. I have had a soup from them once where they purchased all the vegetables from the local farmers' market and they also have donated food to Hibbelton art openings. I'm so torn about this place! I'd give the service 4 stars but the food 3 stars. The decor is cute and the service is excellent, but the menu and food were pretty average. Brownstone Cafe is located on the corner of Wilshire and Harbor Blvd in Downtown Fullerton... the cafe itself reminds me of some cutesy cafes I've been to in the Village of NYC. It's a small place with white and brown furnishing and a small makeshift patio streetside for those who'd rather eat outside. At first glance the menu looked nice, with morning fare offered all day (omelettes, eggs, crepes, pancakes), and lunch offerings (salads and sandwiches) offered from 11 til close. On the bottom of the menu it even specifies to let them know if you want "vegan everything", so I thought it was pretty cool that they're accomodating to those vegan eaters out there. I ordered tea ($2) to start and it's your basic Tazo green tea packet that you can get at the Starbucks around the corner. It comes with a side of hot water. Now that I read the reviews, I wish I had ordered their coffee. My BF and I shared a few things: Mediterranean Salad ($8.95) - the mixed greens were really tender and the balsamic vinaigrette was homemade. I could tell everything was fresh. I asked for chicken on top and that was on the dry side, it was also lukewarm instead of hot. The cucumbers, tomatoes, feta cheese, and red onions were severely lacking too. There was only a sprinkle of a bit of each on top of the greens. Luckily I asked for more red onions (I'm in this phase... haha) and they were happy to bring me out a side plate full of red onions. 2 Organic Eggs with your choice of sausage, ham, and bacon ($6.95). We got scrambled eggs with sausage. Also comes with your choice of hash browns or country potatoes, as well as your choice of bread. We got it with hash browns and wheat toast. I loved the hash browns, there was a nice layer of golden crisp on top, just the way I like 'em! The wheat toast was just ok, it came with jam, but the bread was not warm and toasty... it was already kind of cold when it came to our table like it had been sitting out for a bit. The scrambled eggs were good but it's easy to make scrambled eggs and I've definitely had fluffier ones. The portion wasn't that big. Stuffed French Toast ($9.95) - French baguette stuffed w/ sweetened mascarpone topped w/ seasonal fruit, whipped cream, and creme anglais - I didn't really like how this was a sliced baguette. I guess I'm a traditionalist and like my French Toast smothered in egg then fried with some powdered sugar and cinnamon on top. The fruit with syrup and mascarpone made the baguette kind of soggy and mushy. I do want to try their whole wheat pancakes and omelets here the next time I come. The food here isn't bad, but it's just that I've had better breakfasts at too many other places with this type of theme. This is my favorite breakfast spot in Fullerton. I love the outside patio seating, and the menu is one of the best for brunch. My favorites are the Rialto Rancheros and the Breakfast Panini Becky Style. So much flavor and a good variety of ingredients. I've also had the breakfast burrito, the salmon scramble, the strawberry crepes, the soy sausage, and a few of the omelettes. Honestly, it's hard to go wrong with this place. My only reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is this is a Fullerton "locals" place where all of the staff and many of the patrons are friends. If you aren't part of this group, you are less likely to get friendly and efficient service especially from the hostess. The difference is notable. Also, be prepared to wait on the weekends. If you are craving a bit of Silverlake in Orange County, Rialto Cafe might help satiate that need. The cafe is filled to the brim with thin young hipsters, each cradling a mug of organic coffee, in a mug stamped with the Rialto "R." The food itself is pretty straightforward. Breakfasts include oatmeal, yogurt, omelets, pancakes, french toast. The rest of the menu is made up of a daily soup, salads and sandwiches. John opted for the weekend-only Eggs Benedict. Two poached eggs were served over Canadian bacon and instead of the usual English muffins, baguette slices. The hollandaise was actually really good, not too buttery or lemony and added the right amount of tartness to the dish. It came with a side and he chose hash browns which were nicely browned on the outside. I opted for one of the more interesting sounding dishes on the breakfast menu, the Rialto Ranchero. Four slices of baguette (again with the baguette) with a sundried tomato spread formed the base for two fried-over easy eggs covered with pico de gallo and blue cheese crumbles. What I love about the juevos rancho is the ranchero sauce. I kept missing that in this dish and longed for some moisture. Once the egg yolks broke, that helped a bit. I also found the dish confusing to eat. Was I supposed to eat it like a crostini? Try to cut through it? Weird. We have been regulars at this restaurant and frequented about once a week before the pandemic. We have gone a few times since reopening and the poor service has been consistent. We walked over to Rialto Café on a beautiful sunny SoCal morning to have breakfast. The menu included an abundance of healthy choices unanimously complemented the fresh morning air and encouraged lively conversation. I had the Smoked Salmon Scramble. A delightful combination of perfectly cooked eggs, smoky salmon, and tangy goat cheese - a common entrée made special by the chefs at Rialto. Though the entrées were filling we could not resist the temptation of the Stuffed French Toast - Rialto's heavenly twist on an old standard made with French Baguette. After meeting the potential horrid wait at The Original Pancake House I decided that it wasn't worth it to sit outside in the hot weather just for pancakes. The wait was over an hour when I arrived around 11am. I found Rialto on my iPhone Yelp application and decided to have this place a go. This was the first time I've been into this area of Fullerton and I was pretty excited at the little shops and eateries. It's only a tad difficult to navigate but it's fairly easy to navigate around once you know the layout of the area. When I arrived at this place I stood near the door. As one of the employees there came through the door from outside I made eye contact with him, gave him a nod and a slight smile. What was his response? He just glared at me expressionless as if I wasn't welcomed, wth. That should have been a warning sign but what evers, I shouldn't let one guy deter me from having a meal at this place since it got good reviews from fellow Yelpers. I sat at a table that wasn't even wiped down. It had crumbs everywhere and I had to brush it onto the floor. I think one of the workers saw me but made no attempt to help me clean their very own table. I ordered some milk (which took them about 5-7 minutes just to pour a glass of milk) and the temperature was a little warmer then it should be. It wasn't even cold enough to frost the glass and have condensation on the outside surface. I ended up ordering the Stuffed French Toast, BIG MISTAKE. Holy cow, for $10 I was very very disappointed at the quality, quantity, and overall value of the dish. It is very lacking in "fullness" as the baguette was light and fruit put on top seemed be put on only sparingly. It also lacked any flavor balance since it's mostly just sugar (from the water downed syrup and whipped cream) on toasted bread. I felt a little sick afterwards. They put the little jar containing my bill but BEFORE they checked up on me. Yes, they wanted me to pay first and then INSINCERELY asked me how I was doing. I can see where their priorities are. Anyways, I have no idea why this place gets such good reviews. About 25% of the 5-star rave reviews are from people with less then 10 posts or from people that seems to be blinded by the "hipness" of the place and disregards the important factors which calculates into their ratings. I seriously love this place. I can't get enough of it. The first time I went in, I tried the breakfast panini with hashbrowns. Super good, I added some hot sauce and it was amazing! Hit the spot for a perfect breakfast. Then I saw someone order the french toast that was sitting next to me. I guess the lady couldnt eat it because of the strawberries, the waiter saw me drooling over it and gave it to me to try since it was just going to go to waste. Even after sittting there for 15 minutes, and being all cold, it was BOMB! I knew I'd have to get it next time. And I did! It was amazingggg. Nestled in the old downtown of Fullerton, with lots of interesting architecture and no shortage of red brick construction. This is a city that's proud to show its age. My favorite are the small tables outside where you can enjoy the great California weather and watch the city life as you eat your delicious brunch. My fav is the paninis, they are made fresh and make sure you add avocado. Everything here is top rate and the service is no different. Almost everything you order here is just delicious. This is a great little spot to enjoy a breakfast on the weekend. I came in on a Sunday before my brothers baseball game at CSUF, and I'm glad of it. I wanted something filling, but not too heavy on the stomach. The menu has a lot of options. Especially for their omelettes. I found myself in a pickle and couldn't decide what I wanted. The waitress saw my struggle and said that she can have them make whatever I want. So she advised I order the Plain Jane Omelette, then take what I want off and out what I want on. That's exactly what I did. The omelette came out perfect and it came with toast. I also had a side of hash browns which I gulped down in one bite haha. It's a very nice little space they have there. It was my first time here on Monday afternoon, and I was pleasantly surprised with my entire visit. Rialto Cafe is a cute, vintage breakfast/brunch restaurant with a modern twist and feel, and it makes for a great place to relax and enjoy any afternoon. This place has been around for a while as you can tell by the old photographs hung on the wall. I'm assuming it has been around as far back as the early 1900s, but it surely has been renovated to look hip and mod, yet still honors the olden days. Service: I have heard that Rialto gets crazy busy, but I luckily did not experience it. I did not have to wait, as there were plenty of tables available, and I was greeted immediately coming through the door. The waiter was very sweet in taking care of us, had come back often to refill the water when needed, and brought the food out within no time. I'm sure it would be different customer service compared to a busy day, but come on a weekday, and you will get great service. Food: OH MY GOSH THE HASH BROWNS. I love hash browns anywhere, but they know how to make amazing ones. Super crunchy and brown on the top, and soft shreds of potato underneath. WOW WOW WOW I could eat it all day everyday! So if you are given the option of potatoes or hash browns, get the hash browns! I also ordered The Wilshire omelette, and I was disappointed. I mean it wasn't disgusting or anything, but I wish I had ordered something else. I liked all the ingredients in it (tomato, bell peppers, spinach, mushroom, sausage, bacon), but to me, less is more. I think I'm gonna opt for the breakfast sandwich next time. Ambiance: Loved every bit of it! Very diner-esque with a fresh paint job. I feel like it could be an everyday brunch spot if I lived closer and had $10 to spend every single day. But I could totally see it as a "morning coffee and read the paper" place. I think the price is fair for what it is. The food seems like it is made with quality ingredients, so $10 for brunch is okay with me. I'm gonna have to come back to try something else, though. Rialto Cafe is a cute brunch spot in the middle of downtown Fullerton. They have indoor and outdoor seating. It's a pretty small space though so there's usually a bit of a wait to be seated and it's better for smaller groups. They serve Stumptown coffee, a huge plus! No need to go all the way to LA. I always get the smoked salmon scramble with country potatoes here. (You can never go wrong with eggs and smoked salmon for breakfast.) It's served with dill and plenty of goat cheese crumbled on top. It's soo good, check this place out. read more

It's pretty rare for me to like a place right off the bat--especially if the place isn't next to my house. I'm a lazy person and I don't like to drive any more than ten minutes away from my home. BUT THIS PLACE IS THE SHITTTTT. It's a regular brunch cafe place like any other, but SOSOSO MUCH BETTER. I usually take forever to decide what to order from restaurants because nothing ever seems to stand out immediately for me to say "I WANT THAT. OMNOMNOMNOM." but this time, my friend and I took forever to order because everything sounded so damn delicious!! They had classics like turkey sandwiches and french toast, but with their own spin on it. Their turkey sandwiches were (I believe) housemade and their french toast was a baguette! HOW FREAKING AWESOME. I ordered the turkey sandwich and it was delicious! My only complaint is that my mouth wasn't big enough to fit it in! (Thats what she said. HEHEHEEHEHEHHE) STILL AIN'T A BAD THING TO SAY MY FRIEND. The interior is so cute and cozy and you can even sit at the bar if yaaah like! There is also seating outside which still looked great because today was a nice sunny day in Fullerton. The matre dei (sorry. I mess up the spelling every time. I never seem to learn.....) was a sweetheart! And our latino waiter with the plugs and beany today was also awesome! Definitely one of the best with service. It was a FANTASTIC experience. Man, I never write a negative review but I just had to for this experience. I just got back from Rialto. My family and I (party of 4) arrive to the front outside counter at exactly 1:42 pm all masked up. The host (this young man) refused to seat his. He said right now they are only doing take out orders since they close in 30 mins. The sign right behind him says they operate until 2:30 pm. So, we are well before the 30 min closing time frame. We ask to then order take out and we were going to eat at a local park. We stepped to the side to study the menu so we wouldn't keep people behind us waiting but then he ends up seating TWO different parties. We walk back and address this. He is still refusing. We are ALL wearing masks so no reason not to service us. We point out that 3 tables around us also haven't ordered yet as they didn't even have waters on their table. So now FIVE parties have been seated but he still refused. He said that's the direction he got from him manager. We asked for said manager. No manager on duty. Great. Finally, after he chooses to go back and forth for almost 5-10 mins and then he says with heavy attitude "fine go get a seat". Side note- typically I would NEVER Tolerate this type of behavior and would've walked away without spending a dime and ever coming back, but I was with my father in law whose sugar was getting low and he needed to sit and eat as soon as possible. It was also his treat for lunch and he's been wanting to check this place out. Fastword, everything we tried to order, our server kept saying we might be out of that. Mind you half their menu is burgers, but they were out of burger buns. Great. My SIL ordered a lettuce burger, same as a regular burger with lettuce instead of buns. Right? That's how that goes unless someone makes modifications. But her lettuce burger came with a slice of patty inside the lettuce without any of the other things listed. No tomato, no cheese, so sauce. NOTHING. I mean, I'd like to think that the chain of failures after getting seated was a way for them to give us terrible service and intentional, but maybe it was just terrible service all together. read more

Rialto was the clear second choice to Tranquil (always packed here) and despite the 5-star company, this place is a mixed bag. The biggest knock is probably the service, minus one star for picking up the fork that just fell and placing it back on the table. Minus another for giving some sh-peel about not being able to accept more than 2 CC's per order due to the owner complaining. Jigga what? The food, especially the paninis, were good for the price. Hmm.. I am very very tempted to give them 3 stars. But it's not because of the taste of the food, it's because how small the place is. But I really like this place. If I live around here, I would come here all the time. The french toast pictures (on yelp) was what hooked me. So I ordered the french toast .. and the smoked salmon crostini. Shut up, I know I ordered two dishes. I don't care, I wanted to try both! French toast was made with halved baguette. It wasn't really stuffed, it was more of just the middle part soaked in cream fraiche (I think) then topped with blueberry and strawberries. With some whipped cream on the side. It was really good actually. Satisfied my breakfast sweet craving. One thing that disappointed me was that the berries were frozen ones, not fresh. Smoked Salmon Crostini made an impression on me though. They were fresh salmon with that smoky taste .. topped with capers. Sliced french bread, with cream cheese spread, topped with smoked salmon, slice of tomato and capers. So good. The outside looked really cute, side walk cafe. Nice menu, plenty of selections. Came on a Sunday morning and scored with seating right away. Just minutes after we arrived people started to pile up and the wait became 30 plus minutes WHEW! We chose to sit outside (they allow dogs in the outside seating area) so just FYI if you want to bring your buddy along. Service was great from start to finish. Our orders were taken right away and the food came out pretty fast pretty fast. I decided to start my day off with a cup of joe and Rialto Cafe's coffee was on point. I'm no coffee snob or anything, but I do like my coffee black as I enjoy the taste of coffee itself. I don't know what what coffee they use, but I'll definitely need to ask where I can find some. The coffee was very smooth with a nice rich flavor. They definitely made sure to keep my coffee cup full all morning long AND they even put some in a to go cup when it came time to leave. Foodwise I decided to order the steak & eggs which also came with a side of hash browns. First off, I like my hash browns extra crispy... so it's kind of disappointing when I ask for extra crispy at most places and it really doesn't come out any different. RC on the other hand made sure my hash browns were indeed extra crispy, so I applaud them for taking care of customers requests ;) Also, eggs were cooked perfectly and not full of oil like some places. Finally, the steak was an actual steak. You wont get no frozen, flat, overcooked diner steak here folks. Super disappointing experience this morning. Specifically asked to be seated outside because we brought our dog. Watched people who arrived WELL after us be seated outside and then they tried to seat us inside. Saw our dog and acted surprised? She had even come by to check our spot on the list and saw the dog! Left us to wait another twenty minutes while no one outside even had any food yet. Plenty of outdoor seating at Fullerton Brew Co. so we'll be enjoying them for breakfast, thanks a lot. There are a handful of nice breakfast spots in Downtown Fullerton, and this is one of the best! Seating area is small, so it's pretty cozy and there can be a bit of a wait but it's worth it! Definitely get there early to try their specialty breakfast potatoes before they sell out, and their non-traditional french toast is also a must-taste. read more
