Food is good! Place is cute! Short rib tacos were good the aioli was BOMB. Pizza wasn't bad. Drinks are good, wish they were stronger but they are yummy! The espresso martini was sweet, which I like. Service was good, tons of people ensuring were good

For those who don't understand (this was me), both Fable and Toast restaurants reside in the same building. You go through Toast's main entrance, and Toast is on the left, while Fable sits to the right. Fable's vibe is dark and moody with rich textures, thoughtful lighting, and a touch of whimsy; similar to Benny & Mary's in Irvine (same ownership, along with Toast). The food, well... since we went on Christmas Day, Fable's actual menu was apparently taking the holiday off, and only the Toast menu (almost all breakfast dishes) was available - so yes, plot twist. THE FOOD. - House Eggs Benedict. The hickory-smoked shoulder bacon delivered a savory, smoky punch, balanced by creamy avocado mash and silky hollandaise that tied everything together. I chose a Caesar salad for my side and absolutely loved the finely shredded, almost translucent, Parmesan cheese, with crisp romaine lettuce evenly coated in Caesar dressing, and croutons providing just enough crunch to keep things interesting. THE PARKING. Free surface lot parking was available, and finding a spot was painless; a small but meaningful victory. THE VERDICT. A cool restaurant with a bit of theatrical flair, but a little disappointed I wasn't able to order off the Fable menu. Oh well, another time.

Fable at Toast is the bar area of Toast Kitchen & Bar restaurant located behind the Brea mall. This is the same building that was Claim Jumper for so many years. We visited on a late weekday afternoon to take advantage of their happy hour which runs from 2pm to 6pm. It was surprisingly empty even with Monday Night Football on, and we had our choice of any seat in the house. The dining area is decorated nice, has high ceilings, and has a bit of a classy feel. We started out with a few appetizers. The goat cheese tomato crostini ($12 during happy hour, normally $17) arrives hot in a cast iron skillet. The scoop of goat cheese is a good size, and the almond crust on top adds a little texture. The tomato pesto cream sauce was very good, and there was a lot of it. Two pieces of toast were definitely not enough. Our server brought us two more slices, and that almost wasn't enough to soak up the rest. We also enjoyed the ahi tuna tartare ($12 during happy hour, normally $17). The ahi was very fresh and is served as larger chunks with an avocado mash on top. The spicy ginger soy vinaigrette is definitely pretty spicy. Both appetizers were excellent, and happy hour prices always make good things taste even better. I tried the Herb Your Enthusiasm cocktail (Blanco tequila, cilantro, mint, basil, jalapeno, cucumber, pineapple, lime, Himalayan sea salt, apple cider vinegar, agava, cinnamon, $16). It took quite a few sips, but I did taste all of the various herbs, and the tequila was at a good level. I enjoyed it, but I feel like it has too many ingredients for one cocktail. For my entrée, I had the Chicken Piccata ($19). I rarely order chicken dishes at a restaurant, so I usually have high expectations when I do. This was good, but not great. I would have liked a little more lemon flavor, and I found myself enjoying the rest of the plate more than the chicken itself. She had the Mediterranean chopped salad ($15) and enjoyed it. Overall, everything was pretty good and service was fine. We will probably return at some point, likely during happy hour again. I'd say it's a little better than good, but not quite great. Final rating: 4.4 stars.

We don't get out during weekday Happy Hours often; it was surprisingly quiet for a weekday late afternoon; however, thankful we didn't have any difficulty being seated... and at a nice counter-height table (with soft, comfy chairs -- that were the correct height for the table!), at that. I was impressed that my cocktail had a clear ice cube (it's those little details that elevate my experience)! Cocktails were decently strong, too! We enjoyed starting with their Blistered Green Beans ($8) which were delightfully crisp tender with nice flavors. The options for Sides offered to us (not on the menu): Fries: regular or parmesan Sauteed Mixed Vegetables Arugula salad Caesar salad Hubby found his Classic Smash Burger ($16) with side of Parmesan Fries only OK, commenting that there was so much fresh garlic on the fries that we were still tasting garlic the following morning. My Short Rib Grilled Cheese ($17) was satisfyingly rich-&-savory with a deep, flavorful (even hubby-approved) au jus (my thoughts, bordering salty). I thoroughly enjoyed my choice of Arugula salad (generous in size, tasty, and light-&-refreshing -- pairing nicely with my heavier sandwich). Outside of appreciating more water refills, service was positive & friendly by Frank (who made a great 1st impression for this place) and Jesus, who was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, & passionate. Fun trying someplace new.

Celebrated a coworker's birthday here on a Thursday evening. I was pleasantly surprised by my main course, the Chicken Piccata, which was super yummy! The chicken was light and citrusy, perfectly balanced with the bed of orzo. The food was great, but my coworkers and I agreed that the star of the show was our drink: the French 75. Wow! I'd never even heard of this drink before, but it was amazing. The base is champagne and gin, but most of the flavor comes from the added lemon juice, simple yet perfectly paired. Very strong as well! Even better that we were able to get happy hour pricing on our drinks. Happy hour runs Monday through Friday from 2-6 pm, making the cocktails just $9. The service was excellent, and they even brought out a mini cheesecake with a candle for the birthday girl! I love places that go out of their way to make diners feel special.

Visited with a reservation and were seated right away. The ambiance is absolutely beautiful and unlike anywhere else. We tried several appetizers and dinner items, and every dish was fantastic. The staff was warm, attentive, and exceptionally well-coordinated. Not pictured in the photos is the Goat Cheese Tomato Crostini which is delicious! We'll definitely be returning!

Review 59/365 Day Challenge I saw how Toast now offers Dinner dining from their Fable side of the restaurant around spring of this year. I've never been to Toast itself, just heard a lot of great reviews on them for brunch. Finally came for my besties Bday dinner celebration on a Friday during Happy Hour, got here @ 5 pm n was seated right away by the host 07.11.2025 Their Happy Hour menu is pretty good with appetizers/shareable finger foods & awesome drinks/cocktails options available. HH was so good that we stuck to just ordering apps & drinks from that menu. We were so full that we didn't even get to order from the regular menu. Our server J aka Janelle was really sweet, nice and friendly. We got our drinks and appetizers in a great manner. What we ordered ~ Ahi Tuna Tartare was one of my favs. But Definitely can be a bit more spicier though & a tad bit bland. Served w crunchy wonton chips. ~ Braised Short Rib Tacos are a favs for us all. The meat was really soft & the salsa on it was very flavorful. ~ goat cheese tomato crostini ~ garlic shrimp is really good. Not too overpowering garlic taste. ~ espresso martini was good & on point. Loved it n recommended The restaurant is pretty big and nice decor. Where the brunch side/Toast restaurant is fully clean white walls with greenery and the Fable side is more of a dark, mysterious, story book type of vibe. Definitely recommend the restaurant for a nice girl date to celebrate any special occasion or a simple date night. I'll be back soon. It's own individual restaurant right in the corner of State College & Birch Street with lots of parking spots.

Delicious food, exceptional service, and an intimate, relaxing ambiance make Fable @ Toast a must-visit for girls' night or date night. I brought one of my close friends here to celebrate her birthday, and it was such a memorable experience. The dining space at Fable is more dimly lit and cozy compared to the adjoining Toast area, creating the perfect setting for a more intimate evening. Our server was incredibly attentive, warm, and accommodating from start to finish. When we accidentally spilled a cocktail into our appetizer, she immediately replaced it--no questions asked! She also kindly took photos of us "for the 'gram" and made sure we were well taken care of throughout the evening. We ordered the ahi tuna tartare, Mediterranean chopped salad, and short rib pasta--every dish was packed with flavor and left us fully satisfied. I highly recommend Fable @ Toast for celebrations, date nights, or simply a great night out. You won't be disappointed!

This is the same restaurant as Toast just turns into Fable for happy hour and dinner. We went for happy hour and thank God we did..the prices are not cheap! We ordered a blueberry thyme (so delicious), blistered reen beans, flatbread cheese pizza, and goat cheese tomato crostini. Plenty of veg options on the happy hour menu for us! Everything was delicious ...we could have done without the cheese pizza. We loved the beans so much we ordered a second order of it. Extremely garlicy! The crostini sauce is absolutely divine...we kept the remainder to dip the pizza crust in! The goat cheese is the perfect amount too.

They put too much ice in the margarita--after a couple of sips, it was basically gone. Overall, the happy hour here wasn't my favorite--the food felt a bit pricey for what you get.

Recently came with a group of friends to have dinner here! I usually come to toast for brunch but to see it as Fable for dinner was a fun concept and also how it looks so different interior at night and the menu is fun and great options! Friendly staff and very patient since the group couldn't decide and took us a many turns for the poor waitress to return 3 times to us to finally order our meals. Thank you for being so patient haha. We got the garlic green beans, the tomato bisque, the salmon, the chicken piccata, the Mediterranean salad, and the short rib fries! Everything was delicious and excellent, the salmon was a little saltier than usual but overall highly liked was the short rib fries, we loved the extra spiced kick from the green beans, the lemony sauce of the piccata but not overbearing. We wanted to try more but were stuffed! Would definitely come back! Thanks for a great night!

Ribeye Sandwich (Cooked medium), upgraded to Garlic Parmesan Fries!

This was my first time at Fable at Toast Brea! Brent was our waiter and he was absolutely hilarious and an amazing server. Once or twice a year us friends gather together to meet up for a girl's dinner and this was my friend Taylor's recommendation and what an amazing choice it was! The inside is beautiful decorated with chandeliers and lots of books and gold accent decor on the walls with a dark painted walls and soft AND comfortable floral chairs for seating. As a sober girly, I hesitate when asking for mocktail options, but I asked Brent if they can concoct a spicy cucumber margarita mocktail and it was absolutely delicious rimmed with tajin and garnished with a dehydrated lime! (Drank so fast forgot to snap a photo). But the star of the evening was the 8oz. Ribeye Steak Sandwich (cooked medium) and I upgraded to Garlic Parm Fries because I am a garlic girl forever! The fries were perfectly crispy and they did not skimp on the garlic! The meat was tender and juicy and crispy onion was a perfect balance of crunchy. The arugula on top of the garlic aioli also added that addition of delicious flavor profile to make such a cohesive sandwich. This sandwich is pretty hefty, so I only ate half. But good news for me, I got leftovers for today and can relive this beautiful eating experience once again! Will definitely be coming back here to try out some of the other appetizers and dishes.

I've driven by this place many of times, but it always seemed dead, especially in the evening. It was my brother-in-law's birthday, and my sister had said that they've always wanted to try eating dinner here since the brunch here during the day had always seemed really good. So it appears that the restaurant itself is divided in half. Toast is where the brunch portion occurs during the morning brunch hours, and during the later hours, Fable opens for dinner. When I checked out the web site, I was very impressed. It looked like it was going to be a more feminine posh type of place with a higher scale feel. The menu even seemed to be more sophisticated so I thought OK, this is going to be super interesting And it peaked my interest. When I walked up to the entrance, I noticed quickly a very bright pink wine barrel. I also then quickly realized that it was an old claim jumpers because they didn't bother removing the old mine carts that I guess they keep there for heritage reasons (lol jk but really, why keep them?). When I walked in, I quickly got hit by some loud music that I was not expecting. It was like I was walking into a nightclub. I was quickly thrown off because I was expecting something a little bit more elegant based off of the website. I then was quickly confused because the feminine yet posh decor that was used to decorate inside of the restaurant itself was really beautiful, and whoever took the time to curate that A+ for you but the person who decided to put TVs everywhere why would you ruin that? I quickly ask the rest of the dinner party, where are we? What is this? Are we at a club, is this a diner? Are we at a sports bar? Should I go change and put my sweats on ? What is this? It was just very confusing to me. I also think the layout of the tables was horrible. I had to ask some guest that we're having their dinner to move their chairs in several times for me to even get by because it was blocking a walkway coming down from the stairs, which I know is a fire hazard Just coming from hospitality myself. I mentioned it to one of the waitresses, however she brushed it off and just said well he has some stuff on that chair so it's fine. So I just said OK I hope there's not a fire. The menu is small, but from what we ordered the food was good. The notes from around the table were... The fish plate was delicious The short rib pasta was good, but had too much meat and not enough pasta, the ratio was off The charcuterie board did not have enough bread for the amount of meat and cheese on the plate The chicken piccata was good, but I wish it just had less cheese so the piccata was the actual star of the dish I feel like if I knew what I was walking into or understood with the theme was maybe I would understand the restaurant more. Maybe this is all a miscommunication and perhaps I need to go there again. Overall, I would say the food was good and I wish there was a bigger selection but those TVs really gotta go . There's no reason why those TVs are needed to be in there. They just ruined the vibe. If you really want the TVs move them into the bar area, but even then that bar area is so beautiful and you can do so much more there. You're so close to the college there's so much more you can do with that place.

Nothing disappointed! Everything was high quality. Shrimp was plump n meaty. The service was great! Our waitress was very nice and checked up on us often. This was a great meal, great service, and great price! I would definitely come back

Tea was really disappointing. Can you call it a tea experience when they use tea bags my loose leaf with a lack of a tea selection and have to share a tea pot with 3 people? This was a really big let down. It's not your traditional tea. Sandwiches were fine. I enjoyed a couple of them. The biscuit was good. They also didn't have scones and clotted cream. In my opinion not a true tea experience. Desserts were not good. The attempt made for the ube and pandan were more of a trend following technique rather than a true love in creating something delicious. It was a disappointment. The experience wasn't terrible it was just okay. Stick to a proper tea place is you are looking for a proper tea experience. If you want just cute pictures and just a great ambiance then you'll be fine coming here. I was between giving 2 and 3 stars for this place. I can't deny this was a cute place. $45 a setting... I didn't see the value. I think this place would be better for just pure brunch rather than tea.

Some places sit in the back of your mind for years…read more I first came to Macallan Public House more than a decade ago on a date and always intended to return. Life happened, years passed, and somehow I never made it back. Fast forward to today: I was driving my Tesla, jokingly asked Grok to take me somewhere for a beer, and it pointed me right back here. Walking in felt like revisiting a place that had been quietly waiting in the background of my story. The centerpiece is still the incredible bar. Shelves stacked floor to ceiling with whiskey bottles, glowing green tile behind the taps, warm lighting, and enough character that you can spend half your time simply looking around. It's the kind of room that feels both energetic and comfortable at the same time. I grabbed a seat at the bar, watched a soccer match on the TVs, and ordered an Old Fashioned. It arrived exactly the way I hoped it would: large clear ice cube, generous orange peel, balanced and smooth without trying too hard. Just a well-made classic cocktail. What stood out most was the atmosphere. These days I'm much more likely to be exploring hiking trails, photographing wildflowers, or driving mountain roads than spending time in bars. Twelve years ago, places like this were a much more regular part of my life. Coming back reminded me why I enjoyed them in the first place. Good conversation, a comfortable seat, a quality drink, and no rush to be anywhere else. The beer taps looked extensive, the whiskey selection seemed endless, and the entire place struck a balance between neighborhood pub and whiskey destination. Funny how a random AI navigation suggestion brought me back to a place I'd been meaning to revisit for over a decade. Glad it finally did. 5 stars.

I've had this place bookmarked for a while now, and we finally had a chance to try it! We were…read moredoing a bon voyage dinner for my nephew as he ventures off to his master's program out of state, and we were able to make last minute reservations. I got excited as we walked in because of how cool the vibe was inside the restaurant! Modern and clean aesthetic ... such a surprise! I had already looked at the menu the night before, so I made some suggestions for our party of four adults and kiddo. Our server brought fresh sourdough rolls with seasoned butter. Solid start. We then ordered the stuffed 'shrooms and proscuitto-arugula pizza as starters. Both were very excellent, and was tell-tale of what we were about to experience with our entrees. Entrees ordered were the rigatoni with vodka sauce, the pappardelle with shortrib (two servings but really enough food for at least four ppl!) and the chicken Parmesan salad. Everything was impressive, especially the pappardelle dish. With the beurre blanc and creamy Alfredo sauce with two huge pieces of short rib that were fork tender, it was the star of the evening. This dish is made table-side to ensure that it's eaten immediately. The portions were enough for four ppl, and the sauce is just absolutely decadent. Service was attentive and prompt. Our server was lovely! She shared her favorites with us, and we followed suit by ordering her favorite desserts too! The bread pudding was amazing, but the carrot cake, being a new recipe, was just a bit too sweet for our palates. Plenty of parking as it is onsite. Loved that!

We didn't get her name but she had glasses and septum nose piercing. She was more accommodating at then end but we were very off put at the beginning and it left a bad taste in our mouths. Our server at our table was the complete opposite. Very attentive and made the group less angry with our initial treatment. Wish I got her name to share. The desert and cocktails were nice but due to the service it did not make up for the overall experience. Desert: Tiramisu 4/5 - great flavor, ratio of cream was too much compared to cake portion Canolli 4/5 - duo flavors were nice and had a good shell with crunch Crème brûlée 2/5 - pistachio flavor was light and it's was almost too warm and liquidy. Cocktails overall some major hits and other misses. Sgroppino 5/5 - strong but with a great flavor profile Dragon fruit cocktail 2/5 - too light tasting, not much flavor or alcohol? Gave more juice Peach Bellini 4.5/5 - table side pour is nice touch and rest of bottle was nice. Syrup has a sourness but mixed in with Bellini and gelato and tasted just right. Melontini - 2.5/5 light, somewhat good flavor but nothing memorable. Ambience seems nice but it can be loud inside with open floor plan.
