So, my new Mountain Cur pup was what finally got me to go in this butcher shop. I had seen it and passed it many times in the nine years since I moved back. However, I consider such places above my budget. A friend who has had pedigree dogs suggested I get some beef/pork hocks and cross-cut marrow bones for my pup. In fact, a lady later heard me talk about this somewhere and said she would be going to get some for her Great Danes. (I hope I don't cause a rush on these and then I can't get them! :-) However, I found a new venue where I can get Penn's country ham. I have a venue for Berger (sp?) ham but I actually prefer Penn's. Now I can't stop going in there to buy country ham because it's one of my favorites. Alas, the saga continues, because one day I splurged on a pint of gourmet ice cream. No, it wasn't cheap, but OH MY GOSH I can't even describe it! This shocked me because I am not much of an ice cream eater having had an intolerance for milk as a baby. This stuff is indescribably delicious! I have also found other items occasionally like huge baking potatoes or fresh corn on the cob that they occasionally have. Iim just a little annoyed that it's taken me nine years to go in and check it out. The service is very good, and there is an obvious aura of family pride in their service. Because of all their yummy delectable items, you might have to wait a few minutes because they often cut your meat while you wait. read more

Delicious meats- friendly, helpful service. Yes they are pricey but the quality is there. I can still buy meat or fish there, cook it at home and it is cheaper than eating out. (no, they won't come wash the dishes). I consider buying high quality food an investment in health. An extra $30 a week over a life time is still less than one bypass surgery. read more

My 4 year old son wanted to go pick out a steak for dinner and fell asleep on our way there. I carried him in and ordered 2 filets. The cashier offered to bring our order out to the car instead of me having to hold him in the store, so he could get a nap in. The filets were incredible but the service was even better than the steak. That blew me away. read more

You guys. Do not drive past this store. Stop what you are doing and go buy some meat. Any meat. All the meat. Maybe some fresh buttermilk, they have that too. From whole country hams to chicken, spices and whatever you want in between, they have it. I was in the area for business for a week, staying at an Air BnB, so I needed to feed myself. Might as well pick up some quality beef. I got some ground beef and a beautiful sirloin steak. The staff were pleasant and helpful, they knew folks by name who came in behind me. I wish I lived nearby, or even in the state. This would be my go-to. read more

Best butcher in Kentucky. Best meats you can buy. Nothing I have gotten here was anything less than stellar. And the high end meat is out of this world. We crave their dry-packed sea scallops. Been there a half dozen times for steaks , always top quality and to be honest a lot better steak from any restaurants and I've eaten in the "top" steaks restaurants. We are from Chicago and were driving home from Nashville, looking for a local butcher. I read the small amount of reviews for this place, but they were all excellent. We bought an almost 6 pound filet tenderloin. The butcher cut it and wrapped it while we waited. It was obvious he cared about his business. We cooked half the tenderloin two days later and wow, what a great piece of meat. It was so tasty and cut like butter. Definitely one of the best cuts of meat I have ever enjoyed at home. They also had a huge selection of other meats, pork, chicken, and dish. I really wish the Fatted Calf was closer to Chicago. read more

This is the BEST place ever to get beef, chicken,pork and seafood! If you buy nothing else, buy some ground chuck, it's amazing! I know this seems minuscule, but this tells you how awesome their meat is! If their ground beef is that incredible imagine how their other products are! The owners and staff are also top notch. We felt very fortunate to find this local butcher during our 7 week stay in BGKY to work on a documentary. They have an incredible selection of Boars Head deli meats (the best embutidos we found in the States), as well as great poultry, meat and even delightfully surprising condiments (like the spicy Wickles pickles or even the mustard). I know it may seem funny to rave about your local butcher but as we live in Spain, it was like finding a bit of home around the corner which made our stay in town that much more enjoyable! I was at the farmers market and several people were talking about the bacon burger from the fatted calf. So this Saturday I went to the fatted calf and bought 2 pounds, my son grilled it, it was the best burger I have ever eaten. When you go in and order they treat you like you are the only customer in the store. Everything is fresh and the price of their meat are competitive with the big chain and you get truly fresh product. read more

Wonderful local meat market. We bought a prime rib roast for Christmas dinner. Rian even took the time to write down his personal cooking instructions for my Mom since it was the first one we've ever cooked. It was by far better than any prime rib I've had in a restaurant. This is the best meat I have ever found. I've eaten at some real fancy and famous Steak Houses and didn't get the quality and freshness of the beef that I get at the Fatted Calf. It isn't cheap, but the quality is everything! The service can't be beat either. Very nice/good folks there! read more
