I've enjoyed this place periodically over the years, nothing special but wanted to get some BBQ after seeing a Diners Drive-Ins and Dives show on BBQ. Very simple take-out order - the pulled pork BBQ sandwich and the beef brisket BBQ sandwich. The pork was sliced thick and tasteless and dry. Dittos the brisket. Was able to force-feed myself after drenching the buns with mayo and the sweet BBQ sauce they provided in tiny little containers. The photos, un-retouched, speak for themselves. Stopped by here during lunch and it wasn't too busy. Servers were sweet. What I swallowed: BABY BACK RIBS SPECIAL with SALAD and FRENCH FRIES: The ribs were good, a bit dry but weren't too bad. Ribs were decent, not great. Sides were really bad, not worth eating. Coconut pie was the best item on the menu. It's sad when you go to a bbq joint, and the bbq isn't the best thing they do. We really like Rib City. We usually go 2-3 times a month. The staff is friendly and hardworking. When the receptionist is able she helps the waitstaff by clearing tables and preparing them for the next customers. That's teamwork! We've tried most of the rib options and they are always fall off the bone tender and juicy. The onion rings are our must have. If you like your ribs and pulled meats a little more spicy ask for the extra spicy BBQ sauce. It isn't kept on the table, you have to ask for it. It's my husband's go to sauce. You cannot go wrong with Rib City! I order takeout and have been eating here for years. They really do go the extra mile on cleanliness and following COVID guidelines, so feeling and being safe is what you'll find. The food is always outstanding. I do order 1lb of turkey quite often to go and it's delicious. It is processed so not the real deal, but that doesn't stop me as it is delicious. I think all the other items are genuine though. The wait staff is very attentive and polite. I have eaten at many local BBQ establishments and this one is deserving of the four-to-five-star ratings they receive. The prices are reasonable and the quality is outstanding. Everything is fresh daily. I know this because I asked several times. So, you won't be getting yesterday's ribs. The wife loves the coleslaw. The Take Out process at the Rib City Arvada leaves something to be desired. Seems like every time I try to place an order, there is some problem. Today, I tried to order online twice and the final order submit would not go through online. The circle of death... Then I call and it goes to voicemail. The voicemail message says don't leave a food order because we don't check voicemail. Called again, and a young lady answers. Knowing my take out ordering issues in the past, I try to be very clear as to what I'm ordering. The issue this time was Cheese Fries appetizer w/o bacon as we have a vegetarian in the house. I come to pick up my food and you guessed it, bacon all over the cheese fries. I checked the bags due to past issues with getting my order correct. They remade the cheese fries but it took 10 mins. All the other food sitting getting cold... The food is typically good.... And the reason for 2 stars. The service (especially take out service) is terrible. Fix the take out service. It's been two years that I have experienced this level of service. It shouldn't be that difficult. If management is reading this (should be), this is on you. Don't blame the high school kids. What has happened to Rib City? Ordered take out tonight & everyone in the house was disappointed. Ribs were certainly not a full half rack and so dry you didn't even need a napkin, mac & cheese, as others have commented was an odd tan color, in no way tasted of cheese, just gummy pasta. The pulled pork, again as others have commented, was a gloppy ball instead of the nice shredded pork of days gone by. It appeared to have been dished up with an ice cream scoop as it kept that shape in the container. Garlic toast was stale & tasted like oil. The baked beans & potato salad & sausage were decent but the side containers seemed smaller and one dinner was missing the ordered cole slaw. Have they changed hands or what? This place used to be very good. I wanted to think our miserable experience tonight was an isolated instance, but when I read the reviews & see the same complaints, that's very telling. I'm sorry Rib City.... you appear to have gone to the dogs (what a shame) & we won't be back because BBQ is pricey anyway & to pay these prices for what was received leaves us feeling totally ripped off. read more

This is our go to barbecue restaurant when we are in the Golden Arvada area. I am a pulled pork fan so that is my normal order ,today I got the pulled pork sandwich and there is a generous amount of pork - in fact a little more than I can eat in one meal. This is a popular restaurant for takeout as well as eat in -and I would like to see sustainable containers and join the NO polystyrene movement. I first fell in love with Rib City at their Grand Junction location. They actually have two in GJ--and there is, supposedly, another one of them in Denver but I haven't looked it up yet. This location is pretty fantastic. Super tender, wonderful ribs. Try the St. Louis Ribs...they're great!! I also like mixing their sweet (the shorter, thicker bottle one) with their tangy (slightly taller and skinnier) BBQ sauces. Try the fried corn on the cob...not the healthiest item ever, but surely yumtastic. One star off because, unlike the GJ locations, this one won't make a "St Louis Combo"--in GJ I could get a "half" portion of St. Louis ribs with some of their fantastic smoked beef. read more

I wanted to like this place, but it is incredibly disappointing to arrive home and open a rib and chicken pack to find the smallest ribs in Colorado--inedible burnt ends to boot. Our first Rib City experience was when we ordered take-out last week on Father's Day. For the three of us we ordered: a pound of pulled pork, 1 1/2 rack of baby back ribs, brisket dinner. Our sides were baked beans, baked potato, french fries, and mac & cheese. - The pulled pork was good, if a bit dry. - The ribs were average, also a bit dry and not very meaty. - The brisket was fatty and so dry as to be inedible. - The fries were mushy, absent any hint of crisp. - The beans were good. - The mac & cheese was different from any I've had before... and really good! Clearly the high point of the meal. I'm amazed by the previous ratings, but I'm completely sincere about the above. Hopefully your experience will be better than ours. read more

Don't come here if you are a party of 1. They WILL ignore you. Been here a couple of times since becoming a widow. I'm always placed in a far away booth hard to be seen by staff. I've had to wave down someone just to get a refill of tea. If you are a larger party they pay attention to you more. Rib city grill is a cute little bbq restaurant that does a hell of a lot of business in Arvada. The ribs are ok, I think they are trying to have a "famous daves" type of thing going on with all the bbq sauces, but thats fine with me. It says on the menu that the meat should be falling off the bone tender on the ribs and it rarely does, but people don't seem to complain. My favorite is the sloppy city sandwich (chopped pork,and brisket) served up in a heaping scoop on a toasty bun. Yumm!! They also have THE BEST chocolate creme pie I've ever had. My family and I have been regulars for many years but we have noticed a steady decline in service and the food quality and quantity - but prices have steadily increased. Our last visit was on a Wednesday. The restaurant was busy and first we waited for about 10 minutes to be seated then another 15 minutes for anyone to come to our table. The young woman who was managing for the night wasn't too busy however to spend a significant amount of time visiting with the table right in front of us. She never looked over our way to see that we were waiting, menus closed, for someone to come up to our table. Once the server took our order, no apologies for the delay, it was another 20 minutes for our food to come to the table. I ordered a turkey sandwich that was mostly 2 slices of bread and my husband ordered a 1/4 chicken dinner. The leg and thigh were so small, we thought it was a child's meal. We opted not to complain because it was approaching an hour that we had been in the restaurant and we didn't want to wait another 15 to 20 minutes. Besides the manager was too busy visiting with one table to even look over and ask how our meal was - they are supposed to to do that. It costs a lot more to go out to dinner these days but we unfortunately won't be going back any time soon. read more

It helps that this location is close to us, but I don't like many other places that feature or offer ribs like I do this place. Their ribs, in my honest opinion, have been the best I have had so far. I very much enjoy Rib City food and ordered takeout yesterday: The half rack rib deal with coleslaw and beans. When I got home I discovered that the ribs were way overcooked. One of the small parts was practically burnt. I called the store and spoke with the manager, Arron. He was very courteous, apologetic, and thanked me for calling. We just ordered for pick up and when we were there getting our order we realized they did not bring us two sandwiches. We did get a second sandwich for free because they messed up the order. When we got home and started to get our items out we realized they did not give us ANY bbq sauce. What is the point of eating bbq without sauce. It is just not a good sandwich without the bbq sauce. In the past has been a good place to go for pulled pork sandwiches. Last night, decided to try the special 1/2 rack ribs & shrimp. What I learn is Don't Go Late. Ribs must have been from a dwarfed pig or probably just a piglet. They were over done and dry, fries were on the edge of warm. Our party also had the chicken strips and were also non-impressive. Our party ordered the cheese fries, onion rings, half rack of ribs, burger, sloppy city sandwich, and the buffalo shrimp (we were really hungry). Most of the food was ok no issues there. I would not recommend the mac and cheese but the onion rings were delicious. The ribs are amazing! They are smoky and fall-of-the-bone tender. Probably the best ribs I've ever had. I've also gotten their chicken but it was not nearly as good as the ribs. Aside from the ribs, I always get a side of fried okra to munch on while waiting impatiently for my ribs to arrive. I highly recommend the fried okra. The reason why I'm giving this a 4 out of 5 is because I think there is room for improvement in terms of the sides, they are quite average. We've been to Rib City a number of times, and it's good. They can be very busy and it can be hard to get in, so obviously people like it. Everything we've had at Rib City has been good. Nothing has been great. Everything is relative and everything (to a point) is subjective, and in the restaurant world, BBQ is right up there along side of pizza for relativity and subjectivity. BBQ in general in Denver is fairly mediocre and Rib City measures up well against the local competition. But at the end of the day it's just not Texas BBQ. Or KC BBQ. Or Carolina BBQ. Rib City is located far west, but access is good and there's plenty of parking. The dining room is pleasant - motif is "western," not unlike other chain or franchise BBQ outlets. The menu has the traditional assortment of ribs, smoked meats, sandwiches, salads and sides. Not surprisingly, if you're not into meat, Rib City probably isn't the place for you. We haven't had dessert at Rib City, but they look and sound good, and I've heard good reports. Prices are pretty average - 2 meat combo with 2 sides ($13.99), 3 meat combo ($15.99), full rack of baby backs ($15.99). Our service has always been friendly and attentive. At the end of the day, here's how chain/franchise BBQ in Denver shakes down for me. Rib City, Brothers, Bennett's, Famous Dave's - they're all "good" - I like them all well enough. Rib City might be a small amount better than Brothers or Bennett's. I like Famous Dave's a little better than all of them. But that's my subjective opinion. I can/do go to all of them and enjoy them, but none of them are the real deal Texas, KC or Carolina BBQ. read more
