1 star. I used to really enjoy coming here for the ribs, but after my most recent visit, I honestly feel ripped off. I came in for lunch a few days ago and ordered the beef ribs. By the time I paid for the ribs, sides, and tip, I spent over $32 -- and still left hungry. There was hardly any meat on the bones. One rib in particular was almost completely bare, with basically nothing to eat on it. I paid for a bone. What bothers me most is that this is not how it used to be. The portions were better before, and I actually looked forward to eating here. Now it feels like they are charging premium prices while giving customers less and less. I understand restaurants have higher costs, but serving customers bones with barely any meat and charging over $30 for lunch is unacceptable. If this is a management decision to reduce portions while keeping prices high, it is going to drive away loyal local customers. Nothing bad. Just okay. Firstly I will say the staff was very accommodating and super nice. I liked the atmosphere. Definitely felt homey and nice. I had the beef ribs with baked beans and fries. The baked beans were okay and the fries were pretty good. The beef ribs had a subtle Smokey flavor to them but they definitely could have been more tender. The bbq sauce though... for me personally? Just not good. It was a little weak, almost watery? And sickly sweet. I've had bbq both from the South (Stellar. Amazing) and also from the Midwest (surprisingly very good). I kind of expect bbq to be deep and full with flavor with a little bit of heat and a good undertone of smoke. This just didn't do it for me. The best BBQ in the valley. The beef ribs and the baby backs are delicious.. And they use the right amount of sauce. Not to sweet and the meats are cooked just right. I also love the half BBQ chicken. The portions are large and they always give you the best corn bread for free! I was excited to try this place and was craving some good BBQ but unfortunately it just didn't hit the spot. Having lived in the south, you get to experience some really good BBQ, as well as having visited Texas which has amazing BBQ and that's the quality you expect. So this place is very casual and that's nice and all but we were handed menus and told to sit outside. The table was dirty, hadn't even been cleaned. Our waitress was really sweet and nice but no follow through. We were never asked if we needed anything during our meal or how the food was. We also waited 20min and she never brought us the check. Oh and we had ordered mozzarella sticks as an appetizer which never came. Now on to the food. The pork ribs were good, probably the best thing we ordered. After driving 25 minutes to their location I was told they don't serve baked potatoes until 5pm, something they could've called me and told me as soon as I ordered. After driving back home I opened my food to see they had given me baked beans instead of Mac and cheese, again a premium side I paid for. I've been coming to Rib Ranch for as long as I can remember. It's not necessarily great but it's consistently good. The Pork Ribs are my favorite and always have the perfect texture. I would say taste too but it's fairly hit or miss on the saltiness. I do appreciate how they don't drench everything in BBQ sauce. Their BBQ sauce is really good but I hate when places overdo it. I'd steer clear of the Beef Ribs as they're Beef Back Ribs and lack in meat. The meat that is present is always chewy and tendony. Sides are basic and what'd you expect. Over the years I haven't noticed a decline in quality but perhaps a slight increase in inconsistency. My significant other and I have been getting takeout from Rib Ranch BBQ for many years. I'm not sure that I have ever eaten at the restaurant, but I know that they have a really cute patio area and they offer live music on the weekends. We usually order items off the a la carte menu, with the baby back ribs being a long-time favorite. We also love the potato skins, macaroni and cheese, hot links, BBQ chicken, the potato salad, and corn bread muffins. The BBQ sauce is also delicious. Upon calling, after giving my phone number, they have my account in their system. Ordering is very easy and I have not had an issue with the ordering process or getting the correct items. We came here with a friend who had been coming for years. It was a lovely evening until it wasn't. We sat outside in the patio, and we noticed a mouse in the bushes. Nothing crazy till a family left and about 7 rats/mice came out and feasted on the left over food. They were all over the table, plates, and floor just having a ball. We then realized, what if they were on our table and what if the table wasn't wiped down correctly. What if, they were all over our plates too from another time. We quickly asked for the check. The staff realized all the rats and quickly cleaned up the other table. Trying to hide the rat infestation. Acting as if all is well. This will be my first and last time at this establishment. The fireplace screen dusty and the a/c return vent very dusty. I ordered a bbq tri tip sandwich with broccoli and fries and my daughter got the pulled pork sandwich with bbq beans and fries. First off, no taste in the meal, no seasoning whatsoever. Bland bland bland. My bread got soggy immediately, so I just ate the meat, no bread. The fries are steak fries, done nicely, but zero seasoning, same with the broccoli. The meat didn't seem like it was smoked at all, just came out of an oven. My daughter sandwich was the same bland bland bland. No seasoning. My lemonade was refreshing, not too sweet, which I like, but was watered down. Price for the our meal wasn't bad. This was during lunch hour. The sandwich was horrible. I have come here enough to feel comfortable to let the old lady who runs the place know of my subpar experience. Her reply, "I will let my boss know." Cool. No shame. Again it's what it is. Finally today was the straw that broke this camels back. I walk in and there is no one at the counter to sit anyone. People are walking in, going thru the patio and to the back dining room and sitting down. I ask the one server if I can sit anywhere and she tells me to go back to the front. I said there was no one there. She said someone will be right there. I go back to the front and there was a gal at the counter. I told her I would like to sit inside and guess what she says... just go ahead and sit your self. My family works in the restaurant industry. We are the easiest customers. We took my MIL to this restaurant for her birthday this past Sunday. We had initially offered to take her to one of the best BBQ places, Doctor Hogly Woglys, but she wanted the beef ribs from here as she lives in Woodland Hills and had eatened here before. I've had food from this restaurant as I used to work in Woodland Hills decades ago and it was pretty good then. When we entered we were asked if we wanted to sit on the patio or inside. We opted for inside and were handed menus and told to go through and seat ourselves. Okay. It's that casual? A server with no welcoming smile nor welcoming words nor discernable personality for that matter came to our table. You better have some amazing food to allow this person to serve customers. One of the worst dining experiences we've ever experienced had begun. Lemonade that was water with some lemon in it. The BBQ chicken wings were fatty. My turkey burger was chargrilled which I appreciate but they might think about cleaning the grill. It was bitter on the outside and bland inside. We've had better BBQ baked beans from a can. The baby back ribs were slathered in a cloying sweet sauce. They were chewy, not tender. The mac and cheese was tasteless. The tri-tip was tough, and the hot links were so salty. The pulled pork was pretty good, but again the overly sweet sauce was too much. My husband had to go get more napkins as the server barely checked in. And he had to go get to go containers as I foolishly thought I could salvage some of this food at home. We were out of there in less than an hour. We were one of two tables inside. That should have told us everything. There were more people on the patio as it was a beautiful day. $180.00 for one of the worst meals we've had. We tipped 20% because as aforementioned we work in the industry and would never leave even a terrible server without a generous tip. NEVER doubt your instincts. When you know, you know. My husband and I have gone to multiple barbecue places in the valley and outside of California, so let me just say- our standards are very high. That being said, this was our first time here. It is a small hole in the wall place in beautiful Topanga Canyon. We were seated fairly quickly in their outside patio area which had great live music playing! Once seated we were served cornbread that was absolutely phenomenal! We then ordered their Tri Trip dinner and Ranch combo ( Brisket and Sausage with a sides of Mac n cheese, mashed potatoes and fries) Brisket and sausage were good however they were not anything special.There is only one barbecue sauce offered as well which if offered multiple flavors of sauce would absolutely take this place higher. The potato salad was worth the extra $2 though; I really liked the flavor. My favorite side ended up being the onion rings which were the only free side offering. When they first came out there was only one small thing of sour cream but thankfully our server brought more. Service was a little odd. When we first arrived the hostess asked us if she could put us in the back because that's all they had. We said sure, she handed us two menus, and told us to go outside and to the left. Well doing that was quite confusing because we had to walk by the band through a closed door which wasn't clear at all. It was fine, but just a bit odd. Our actual server was lovely although hard to track down a few times but that's not unexpected at a busy restaurant at this hour. Another odd thing was a gentleman walking in and out through the kitchen in a Rib Ranch shirt and flip flops.
