This is no longer called Las Palmas. It is now a Guatemalan restaurant called, I believe, La…read moreChapinita so I am leaving a review for that until they change their name on Yelp. Excellent food. We were almost shocked at the authenticity and quality of this food! I had the chicken quesadilla and my husband had the carne asada. Both were excellent and came with the option of grilled cactus. I believe this is billed as Mexican but is actually Guatemalan. The staff is super friendly. It's a small place on Main Street. I highly recommend this little restaurant.

I love when immigrants break out of the fields and factories to follow the American dream, and we get their delicious cuisine. This was our second visit and the restaurant has come a look way. Laminated menus with pictures that were representative of the dishes we received. Empanadas with chicken, mayo and cabbage. Jalapeno enchiladas. Wonderful homemade salsa. My first try of a Michelada and I think it was a good representation. This stuff is authentic. Don't expect cheddar smothered entrees. Do expect nicely seasoned meats, authentic carriers (sopes, rellenos, empanadas) fresh lettuce and cabbage and a healthy dose of cojita queso Blanco. This is the real deal. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the service is slow (they are a lean operation and the servers help prep food), and they use tilapia as their fish, they have no house made horchata, and there was no ceviche or mole.

Very tourist friendly, I get it (protein choices chicken, beef, steak shrimp). I was looking for more options, like tripa or lengua, lomo en res de arbol to be honest. Elote. Menudo. The menu has all the classic Mexican fare I would call it - tacos, enchiladas, chimichangas, fajitas, quesadillas. Traditional dinners as well like Carbe Asada, Bistec ala Mexicana, Huevos Rancheros, and Chilequelles. The restaurant itself is very nice inside and clean, with a beautiful bar area. When you walk in you can see directly into the kitchen and how clean the floors and equipment is. We stopped on a Friday around 3pm, not an ideal time but we had been traveling for half the day and needed to eat. Big points for having a selection of hot sauces at every table, including Tapatio or my favorite El Yucatec Habanero; roja AND verde. Our server was Uriel (great name), who seemed to be the only server on duty, which I understand considering the time and day but he had several tables aside from the 3 of us and spread throughout the place so he was in and out of the dining room constantly. My wife ordered the chile rellenos enchiladas with salsa roja, and my daughter chicken quesadillas. I ordered the bistec Mexicana, with corn tortillas. The meal came with chips and salsa. The salsa had good flavor, timid on the cilantro though, and the chips were good but didn't taste made in house, in my opinion. Our meal arrived soon after ordering, and it was good! The bistec was made with canned or pickled jalapenos, and not fresh, so they lost major points for that. The meat was good, but the jalapenos brought a salt and brine flavor instead of the Smokey fresh and vibrant pop that fresh jalapeños provide. The rice and beans that accompany the meals are well prepared with good flavor. The beans were well executed and almost velvety, and the rice had flavor and consistency. In all, a good meal at a great price point. Would definitely eat here again.

While the cuisine is standard Americanized Mexican food, it fills an important niche in our neck of the woods, and I will continue to patronize them whenever I am in town and hankering for a burrito or something like that.

I think it may be that the standards are alittle bit lower in these parts, but everything just tasted bland. I ordered table side guac, which is like $12 and some change, but it wasn't made table-side... it also tasted bland and the avocados tasted like they were in a fridge that was too cold. I make guac very often that I know when an avocado might be alittle too cold... it had that grainy texture and taste. I also ordered the steak fajitas... the steak was not really even steak, but probably more what I would describe as overly done sliced or shredded beef strips. I've had better steak at Chipotle. It was also bland. There was no flavor at all. The only flavors you got were from adding the beans and sour cream to your fajita. It was also really tough. I was pretty disappointed, because for some reason, I pictured a sizzling platter arriving at my table, and guac made at the table as well. I then ordered flan for dessert. It was also pretty disappointing. The flan it self might have been okay, but they drizzled chocolate on top of the flan, which really masked the flavor of the flan and made me wonder what were they trying to achieve by adding the chocolate. The caramel syrup is already sweet... You can also tell whoever makes the flan does not know how to make flan. Flan should be smooth and silky. It can be light or also more rich and velvety. This one had so many air bubbles that it gave me such a feeling of concern with every bite. Either the water from the water bath used in the oven spilled over or the temperature was too high that it caused the flan to boil. And then the final straw was the electronic fee... I'm not from around here but is this normal? It makes me wonder if this is something they should disclose or tack on to their food prices... Yeah I just did not feel it with this restaurant... Probably won't be back... It doesn't mean the food isnt good, but it's just my opinion and I've been to several restaurants...
