The food was good, although I was expecting better based on all the great reviews this place had. Inside is very nice and its bigger than it seems. The rice and beans were okay, the steak I ordered was supposed to have a Chimmichuri sauce but it was just garnished with tomatos. In case you go there, the young lady at the front only greeted me in spanish and the same for the lady who brought my drink over, none of this was an issue as they were both very nice, our waitress did speak english so that was helpful when ordering. Also they will give you a qr code to scan for their menu, so you can simply go on their website ahead of time so you cam be familiar with the menu. I'm giving it 4 stars because I liked the atmosphere and decor. It's a very large restaurant with lots of parking. It would be a great place for a family gathering. I also liked the creaminess of the coquito even though there wasn't a whole lot of rum in it. The serving was divided into 2 separate glasses and shared with my friend. A little pricey at $7 but it was very good. My husband makes it stronger. The food was about about 3.5 stars. I say that because our appetizer was super greasy. We had the morcilla (blood sausage) with tostones de pana. The oil was dripping out of the tostones. It tasted good and I could tell that it was olive oil, but all I could taste was the oil. It dripped so much that it left a huge grease spot on the paper table cloth. The morcilla was very tasty. It had all the flavor of ones that I had in Puerto Rico, but just wasn't as juicy as I remember it to be. More rice than what I remember, but I think that's how they make it nowadays. The trifongo with churrasco steak had lots of flavor. Especially the steak. I could taste the distinct flavor of recao (or culantro). The steak was cooked medium rare as I asked. It was perfect. The trifongo was a little dry but still had that sweet and savory taste that makes it so unique. I just wish I had tasted the garlic a bit more. There is a food truck in Riverview that makes it with lots of garlic which is the way I like it. However, I did appreciate that there wasn't a whole lot of salt in the one I had at Rice N Beans. The mofongos that I've had in Puerto Rico are usually full of salt. I know I'm being picky. The flavor of the island was there. It just didn't blow me away. I do want to go back and try other menu items. The arroz mampostiao looks very good. I was really wanting a good asopao which I know they've had in the past. I am Rican and love my culture and food. This restaurant is a bit far out but worth the drive. The frituras were so hot and crispy, you knew they were fresh. Not in the Tampa area much, but our cousins took us here for dinner. I can see why it stays full of patrons. The atmosphere was inviting and energetic for a Friday night. The food was to die for. We had a wide selection at the table from whole fish to a giant pork chop and various other dishes in between. Kind of seemed like family style since everyone was picking off of each other's plates. Had tickets for a comedy show in Wesley Chapel today so decided to give this restaurant a second chance. I have previously reviewed this establishment before and was not happy with both the food and service. I figured to give them another chance. Well shame on me. Again waited over 20 minutes for our food before the waiter informed us that they ran out of white rice. REALLY, at 5pm this restaurant which is titled Rice-n- Beans ran out of rice. Unbelievable that it took that long to inform us when in those 20 minutes they could have made more. In our first visit we were disappointed that the food after waiting over 30 minutes arrived cold, so we made it crystal clear that we wanted our food serviced hot. Well lesson learned because after waiting another 20 minutes our food arrived medium warm. Being married to a Puerto Rican for over 40 years, I know Puerto Rican food and how it is always served piping hot. I will never, repeat never eat there again and let all our friends know that this restaurant is clearly not worth the trip. Absolutely a horrible dining experience. read more

I love this place. Came here with some friends while down visiting from New york. Food is authentic as is the environment. Reminds you have a place that we used to go to in Puerto Rico. Has a great vibe as do 90% of the customers who come in. People are just looking for good food a good time and good people to socialize with. I'm very critical about so-called authentic Puerto Rican restaurants and came here with some intrepidation. That being said this place is great. To start we got the drinks and it was fine but notice the server was a bit unfocused because she brought the wrong drink but it wasnt a big deal. We went ahead and order some starters, a couple empanadas and the side of chicharones which the empanadas arrive on time but the chicharrones arrived after the entres. About and hour or more of a wait for the food. Now i work at a fine dining elevated restaurant my self and i know if its busy, food will take long but for the things we order It was hard to believe . just for then everything to come out fast when we complaing about items we were missing. The person i was with order carne frita, he got the chuletan kankan instead which he cant eat and was still charge for it after talking to the server. server needs to work of performance at the table and the ability to work under pressure and with mutilple tables. Atittude wasnt the best but she tried. When you have to recover a table from a bad experience you have to go an extra mile and make sure everything is good. I asked for a second coke and was brought a coke on a dirty glass i notice after i finish the drink. Not only did we get the items wrong, starters after the entres, charged for the wrong item but also a dirty glass. Where do I start my experience... so many things went bad for our first experience... let's start off with the fact we went in person a few days ago to make sure we had a reservation for over twenty guests , we also called and made the reservation before we arrived. So yesterday was the day we reserved , the cashier/ host tells us there was a "glitch in the system" so no reservation was made , we waited over 2 hours standing outside for seating , there was no manager to help out the situation and anytime we asked a waiter for help she tells us "I get paid by the hour" as if it's too much to help us , giggles and walks away. This is the one of the only Spanish restaurants in Wesley Chapel. Now, my mother is Puerto Rican. I know the food, flavors and what it should be like the back of my hand. Overall, for the wait that this place literally always has, for as loud as the music is, (you can barley hear the people at you table, which Puerto Ricans are big music people but at a sit down restaurant, toning it down some wouldn't hurt at all) and for the food I really can't do more than a 3. Sometimes I feel , flavor wise it could be a hit of miss. Drinks, delicious, but I've only had the mojito and coquito cocktail. If we're in the mood for extremely good Spanish food or Puerto Rican food we go to Tampa or to a food truck that is usually by advance auto. Decided to give this place a try since we are new to the area. Surprisingly for a Thursday night this restaurant was packed. We walked in and was greeted right away by a very professional and welcoming hostess. She ensured we were comfortable with our table option before seating us. Since the first table available was right in front of the band she gave us the opportunity to choose sitting in front the band or waiting for another table. Once seated we were greeted by a very friendly gentleman as our server for the night. Even though they were busy and seemed short staffed they made sure everything was taken care of in a timely manner. The food was delicious and the portions were generous. Our drinks were on point and not watered down like most restaurants. My only complaint would be the band is slightly too loud. The music was great with a mix of English and Spanish but the volume needs to be turned down a bit. The two tables next to us were complaining about the volume as well. I visited this location on this past Sunday. I had a big party with me and placed to go order towards the end of eating my meal. I was told that in the bag was my to go order my leftovers. The only thing that was in that bag were my leftovers and I did not receive two of the meals that I had placed for to go. 5 Stars - Because... we were told that it would be a 45-hour wait. We're here with another couple and 4 kids and we've watched people who came after us get seated and yeah, my wife, my "illest, viscous pitbull in a skirt" has gone 'Feral"... We've seen at least 2 parties that arrived after us be seated before us... perhaps they were waiting at the bar or perhaps they were waiting in their vehicles because they don't give you a pager here, they text your phone. I do believe in being fair so that is a strong possibility. So, one of the managers, Leslie, came to the rescue! She got us seated immediately and had our orders taken. The kids got to order and were served first with was great. The waiter, Alexander, was really moving sluggish and Leslie was watching him as he took as really long time to take our orders. (Backstory) This place went from being a small "Hole-in-the-wall" which had line wrapping around the building and going up SR-56 to a huge restaurant that still has crowds coming to eat here. Now, where was I, before our orders came, Leslie, who was watching Alexander, sent him home and replaced him with an awesome, speedy, attentive server named Brian. Brian was focused and extremely detail oriented. Dessert was on the house and everyone was talking about this "Tres Leche" (Three Milk) Cake... it's the most popular item so of course they were out of it... Bummer! I have an issue with textures and the only desserts they had left was Flan cake, so instead they brought us Virgin Piña Coladas... (I have a personal rule that I will always be the designated driver which I'm able to stick to_most of the time.) Today, the four of us opted for VPCs for our dessert. This started off a little rocky, but SL, Super Leslie, swooped in and rescued the evening and the dinner. Awesome company, amazing food... (Closer to 2.5 stars than 3) We were finally able to make it to Rice and Beans! Ever since they opened their new location, it is nearly impossible to get in. The hottest spot in the Wesley Chapel area; with wait times lasting hours. Lucky for us, we were able to walk right in on a Saturday afternoon for lunch with no wait what so ever. The restaurant is beautiful. The hostess and our server were friendly and welcoming; reminding me of the many places I've visited in Old San Juan. Unfortunately, for me, this is where the "positive" of this place stops and the memories of Old San Juan fade away. The food was unremarkable, bland and borderline inedible. I ordered the popular plátano Jibarito Steak Sandwich. Flat on execution. The meat was cold and simply not cooked properly. It appears as if the meat was too cold when they started cooking it, which made it seem like it was steamed steak, or too many things in the pan when it was cooking. Either way, the execution of this dish led to it simply not tasting good- that is for the the portion of it that was even edible. The cook of the meat aside, it was missing any type of seasoning. I really wish this dish was better and perhaps it is on most nights, but on this visit for me, it was...just not good. The diner next to us also had the steak, and was overheard saying it was cold and not good.. makes me think it was more of bad day than the norm, but who knows ‍ My wife ordered the vegetales saleados (sautéed vegetables) mofongo. We've eaten our share of mofongo. The mofongo was average. But the vegetables were absolute mush.. it reminded me of the frozen vegetables you buy at the grocery store, throw in a microwave for 5 mins and hope for the best-- these vegetables had zero texture or flavor. Sautéed anything doesn't mean mushy, and I'm left to guess that these have just been sitting in a warming pot and reheated once an order comes in because I refuse to believe they would microwave anything.. or at least I hope.. either way, with an average mofongo and mushy veggies, this dish missed the mark. Perhaps it was just our one visit and a bad day for the chef that led to our disastrous dishes.. it's what I'd like to think given several customers having a great experience on their visit. But for me, this is a far cry from the warm, comforting Puerto Rican cuisine I've grown to love. We will one day give them another shot, because seeing businesses in my community succeed and grow is important, but there are a half dozen other spots I'll try before returning. So after a hiatus of 15 months decided to give this place a second chance. After all we're all entitled to one. But my stars will stay the same but with a 1/2 star to it so we will give it a 3 1/2 rating. Will say they invested into the decor with extra seating outside, so they spruce up the place a bit which pushed that 1/2 star in. Will also give credit on the no more salty food. As much as I would love a nice spanish establishment in our vicinity this place will bever be it. It stills lack that authenticity Puerto Rican flavor. Don't get me wrong all tables were filled. But it question my judgment on what people just settle for in food. Also that desserts are still not made in house. I definitely knew the difference. Nice try!! We went to Rice and Beans for a birthday dinner on Saturday afternoon and was thoroughly pleased with the service and quality of the food at such a busy time. I ordered the Churrasco and it came out perfect! It was one of the better skirt steaks I've ever had. I tend to get unlucky and my steak typically comes out overcooked. The rest of the food the party ordered looked and smelled really good, so I am definitely interested in going back to try something else. The only small complaint I had was that the plantains for the maduros were not ripe enough when they had been cooked and were still pretty fibrous. Otherwise though the entire experience was extremely pleasant and left me wanting more. read more

Well, after giving them time to work all the kinks out and finish with all the excuses and the lengthy opening we gave RNB a try. We arrived around 5:30 the wait was about 25-30 min which was pretty accurate. We sat down and was waited in within 5 minutes. We placed our order and the food was out in about 20 minutes plus or minus. Very fresh, very tasty and pretty authentic. Nothing will ever top mom and dads Puerto Rican food but this was close and didn't disappoint. The decor both inside and outside was awesome, I love all the Taino symbols and details as the Taino Indians were the islands original habitants. I was craving for some food, drink and atmosphere from home. This place didn't disappoint. The place was packed (good sign) but they were pretty fast and the service was great. As an appetizer we ordered the Antojitos Puertoriqueños, The alcapurria was perfectly cooked (crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside) and the meat was also nicely seasoned. The empanada de carne was great and the meat had a lot of flavor. Also, the sorrullito de maiz was cooked to perfection. For the main course my girlfriend ordered the Pechuga de Pollo with criolla sauce with a Mofongo. The chicken was very well seasoned and juicy and the criolla sauce had very good consistency. Mofongo was a little bit dry for how we usually like it but flavor was perfect with hints of garlic. The salad had a house vinaigrette and was fresh. I had the Chillo Frito Entero. Sometimes when you order this kind of plate they will overcooked the fish; that was not the case. It was cooked to perfection and with hints of lemon. As a side I had arroz con gandules and tostones. The tostones were freshly made and not frozen and the arroz con gandules was very closed to my grandmother's, give it a try! Drinks were also really good. The piña colada had the correct amount of sweet and I was impressed by their mojito. We ordered Vanilla Flan for dessert. It was moist in the middle and the edges were not burnt (simply perfect). They did not charged us for the flan because they were really busy and supposedly took more than usual for the food to come out. I think the wait was ok, but what a great service! Finally, price is what you would except from this type of restaurant, is not on the cheap side but I've been to other similar restaurant and they are not at the same level as Rice-n-Beans. read more

Came to visit family and was brought to Rice N Beans for early dinner on a Friday evening. The restaurant is limited for seating (about 10-15 small tables and some seating at the window of the restaurant) and by 630 pm there were a few crowds waiting to dine in. There was a good variety of Spanish music playing from speakers while we were there. This is a classic Puerto Rican restaurant with food from the island's traditional dishes. Most of my family ordered water since they had absolutely no soda or soda based options which the menu had listed. We were not able to try their friday night special (pollo asado aka baked chicken) and were told they were completely out of that as well. We got there around 5 pm so for that special to be completely out at the onset of dinner was highly disappointing. I got the bistec encebollado (steak and onions) with white rice, beans and maduros (sweet plantains). The rice, beans and maduros were great. Their steak was lacking in flavor but for $10.99, it is what it is. The rest of my family were satisfied with their dishes. We weren't able to pay using credit because this location didn't have the chip reader available. Heads up to anyone looking to pay by credit card, if you don't have a chipless card then you may be assed out, bring cash as a back up. Menu prices were average. The waiter (Spanish/English speaking guy) was attentive throughout our dinner and apologetic given the lack of food/drinks/issue with the credit machine.
