We wanted to try their food so badly because we ALL love THAI STREET FOOD but, at that time they were not open yet so today my hubby was in the area and decided to ORDER for PICK UP... FISH BALLS: 10/10 Delicious!!! If you are a fish ball or fish cake fan you will love this APPETIZER!!! The fish balls are so nice and bouncy!!! The green chile sauce that comes with it is so HEAVENLY!!! I wish I could buy a whole JAR of the sauce!!!! KRAPOW BOWL (ground pork): 9/10 The Krapow flavor was delicious!!! We also added a Thai style fried egg. It came with pickled cauliflowers and fish sauce. My husband doesn't like string beans and they were able to customize it for him... PAD THAI (FRIED TOFU): 7/10 I love the fried tofu very much! They are very generous with the portion. The only thing I would recommend is to separate the fried tofu and leave the box open so it will not get soggy sitting on top of the noodles. I have to be honest and say I could not taste the PAD THAI sauce in the noodles. There was no flavor in the noodles. I don't mean to hurt the chef's feelings and I apologize if I did. We had high hopes for this new Thai restaurant in Old Pas. It has cute decor, bright, simple layout. The place was super busy with note enough servers to cover the place, so everything was backed up. But it's OK if the food was good. Sadly it was mid at best. The Gai Yang is a grilled chicken app, and it was fine. It was a bit overcooked, dryish, and tasting nothing like Thai chicken I've had in Thailand. But their Midnight Train Fried Rice was awful, i wish it was mid, but that's how bad it was. The fried rice was mushy, wet and a giant mound of moist nastiness. we felt slightly sick after. I've had fried rice in Thailand and it's nothing like this. Had a great weekday evening at Thaim with a friend- the space was airy, bright, colorful, and vibrant. Note that this spot is in Old Town Pasadena, so you can find street parking or go for one of the lots. We ordered the pork pad kra pow and the tofu pad see ew which were both wonderfully balanced and flavorful. The staff were also friendly and attentive. I know the spot is in Old Town Pasadena, and the restaurant has a different focus than a typical Thai spot (ie fun drinks and a different market audience) so prices are higher than a typical Thai restaurant. However, the portions could've been a bit more generous, since each entree essentially starts around $19. I also noted that you have to pay upwards of $2 for certain meats (not even specialty ones like seafood or pork belly) which I was surprised by. Nonetheless, this is a great spot and I'd return. I visited Thaim in Pasadena for my birthday lunch on a Thursday. The restaurant is bright, clean, and has a cute, welcoming atmosphere. I especially loved the Thai alphabet displayed as part of the décor--it was such a thoughtful touch that made the space feel even more authentic and inviting. They also offer a great lunch special, have a nice wine list, and even provide counter seating for solo diners, which I always appreciate. It was busy during the lunch rush, and you could tell our server was doing her best, but service was unfortunately a bit slow. We also ordered a dish that was supposed to come with an egg, but it was missing. We didn't realize it until we got home, so it didn't seem worth going back over a $2 item. Still, it was a small oversight that reflected the overall service experience that day. The menu is on the smaller side, but the food was enjoyable, and I'd still recommend giving it a try if you're in the Pasadena area. They're still fairly new, so I'd give them some grace as they work through the growing pains. read more

My husband and I have been here a total of three times now, and it's been great for most of it except for a couple of hiccups. For example, staff should be highly-trained on what ingredients are vegan-friendly because adding chicharron to a Pad Thai does not make it vegan. Hopefully they will be able to work out these kinks as they progress. We love that they can make most of their menu items vegan-friendly for my husband while keeping the menu simple and authentically Thai at the same time. The place is nicely decorated with a pink theme running throughout and it's a great place for a casual sit-down lunch or dinner meal. My goal is to try everthing on the menu and decide what are my favorites for repeat visits. So far, my favorites have been the Basil Bowl with ground pork and fried egg; the larb blended mushroom; the fried chicken wings; and the mango sticky rice slushy. Omg this place is so cute I really love the design / interior design and color scheme this whole place! Our server was nice and kind super helpful and attentive! Menu looked great we were both starving when we arrived so we decided quickly and got our food quickly! Food is amazing!! I'm happy to report that I was able to catch them while they were open (thank you for updating the hours!) and had a fantastic time! The ambiance was amazing, their interior is cute and trendy. The food was delicious! We split one order of wings and the Bangkok Basil Bowl with ground pork. I got their Thai Tea Slushy and my husband got a few refills of one of their beers. Everything was perfect and the service was amazing, friendly and very attentive! My husband prefers his beer glass cold and thats exactly how they served it for him & he was so impressed as restaurants have rarely serviced him that automatically. I am giving this place five stars based solely on the taste and quality of the food. It is legit some excellent tasting food. We hade the basil bowl/plate with marinated chicken and the pad Thai with salmon and the fried egg tofu (add on). Both meals were full of flavor and satisfied the eyes and well as the taste buds. The flavors of the food was everything you want from a Thai spot, but the stand out was the fried egg tofu and the cook on the salmon. The salmon was served in chunks and it was super juicy: top notch cookery. The egg tofu was delightfully crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside--it was maybe my favorite thing on our table. The ambiance is very open and friendly and the service was equally friendly, quick, and attentive--it was not that busy when we were there, so not sure how it would be during busier hours. Our main gripes would be that the pad Thai was something we asked to be spicy, and it had little to no spice whatsoever, but the basil bowl/plate delivered on the spice. And the portion sizes left you wanting more, that is if you're used to larger portions. We also got the mango slushy drink, it was delicious, but very small for the price. This brings me to the prices. I know it is Pasadena and I am sure the rent is high, but the prices did not match the serving sizes at all. They have a lot of upsell options that pad the bill, but not your appetite. We definitely left hungry, but extremely satisfied with the flavors, service, and ambiance. Thaim is definitely worth your time, but if you're a glutton like me be ready to order a second meal and bring some cash, they gotta cover that Pasadena rent, people. Parking in the area is absolutely miserable unless you park in a garage. Also, the bathroom was really clean. Finally, I am sorry I did not take any pics, but I believe the owner has uploaded some excellent pics. Thaim is inventive and authentic! This restaurant pulls out all the stops to deliver a delicious meal and a pleasant dining experience. Every meal was delicious and made with intention! The server also was incredible and not only did a thorough job explaining meal items but handled a busy restaurant on what seemed like his own! The meals had some kick to them, yet they were still so enjoyable. Bringing kids to a restaurant can be hit or miss but we were grateful they had yummy food and yet also enjoyed comfortable seating and a fun experience. Can't wait to come back! read more

My husband and I spent a beautiful afternoon having lunch at Thaim. This new Thai restaurant is an excellent addition to the Pasadena food scene and serves delicious street food. I have to start my review by saying how absolutely wonderful the service is here. All of the staff are genuinely so kind and warm and just truly go above and beyond to take care of you during your visit. The overall environment is also super cozy and inviting. The food Thaim is serving is spectacular. We ordered a Thai tea slushy, Pad thai with fried tofu and Pad see ew with marinated chicken. We were blown away by everything we had. Both dishes stood out from the usual versions we typically get. The Pad thai was balanced and flavorful with a fresh tanginess, and the fried tofu added great texture and flavor without being too heavy or greasy. The Pad see ew had excellent smoky wok char, and the marinated chicken was tender, well-seasoned, and noticeably more flavorful than typical. These dishes were different in the best ways. I saw criticism that portions are small here, which I would agree that comparatively the portions are smaller than some other places, but the quality of ingredients is truly impressive here. I personally think smaller portions for quality is worth it. The Thai tea slushy was also very delicious. It was thicker than expected, almost like a milk shake, but it was very enjoyable. Finally got to try this viral Thai spot. So let's see if they're pretty good eh or ew. I got their black pink drink, mango sticky rice slushy, corn salad, short rib salad, egg tofu pad Thai, and ground pork basil bowl to try. The mango sticky rice slushy was topped with a not too sweet light coconut foam and shavings. The drinks tasted pretty similar and were both bright, lemonadey, and refreshing. Surprisingly tho the black pink one tasted a bit more mangoy. The corn salad had a salted egg, juicy sweet cherry tomatoes and corn with some green beans, nutty crunchy peanuts, and was very garlicy with some fish saucy notes. The short rib salad came with some tender yummy 24 hour sous vide short rib that even had a nice crisp sear, fresh leafy greens, and crunchy juicy cucumbers cherry tomatoes and onions. It was tangy a bit spicy and sweet. The egg tofu pad Thai had some jiggly silky fried egg tofus, crunchy chicharron, fresh bean sprouts, and some perfectly springy sweet lightly tangy and savory pad Thai noodles. I got the ground pork basil bowl with brown rice and it was super flavorful, savory, comforting and just pure deliciousity. It can get a bit pricey but Vibes are super aesthetic and cute, food is solid, and service and people here are so nice. So Overall this place is still pretty good. Furthermore, the pad see ew was burnt to hell; I could see bits of ash embedded in the noodles and taste the charcoal grill it was wiped off of. Unfortunately, I had a really disappointing experience here. I was excited to try this new Thai spot, but after eating here I ended up getting food poisoning. I'd strongly recommend the restaurant take extra care to make sure food is handled safely and fully cooked before being served. Hoping this was just a one time issue, but definitely something the restaurant and customers should be aware of. We suspect the pork jowl was not fully cooked all the way - it can seem seared on the outside but not cooked inside. We hope this gets addressed! read more

I was walking on Union Street, in Old Town Pasadena, and I saw this new, very appealing Thai restaurant. I just entered the place and was immediately greeted by a very friendly hostess. I chose to have something to go and she helped me with the touch screen kiosk. I ordered a Kor Moo Yang and I waited at the bar. After a little while, I got the food, went back home and opened the takeout. The presentation of the Kor Moo Yang was very nice and it tasted really good. Food Ordered For this particular visit I ordered the Basil Bowl with Ground Pork - Mild Spicy. Their spice levels are true so if you don't eat spicy much start with Mild. I planned on eating half for lunch and half for dinner but it was so good I devoured it in one sitting. Pricing Pricing is what you would expect for a sit-down restaurant with entrees starting $17. I normally try to keep my lunch purchases under $15 (its hard to do but there are options). However, FriYAY deserves a delicious splurge. Staff The staff is super friendly and inviting. They were very attentive and informative. They even offered me water while I waited for me food (didn't have to wait long at all). The decor is super cute and the vibes are really good. Sadly the food wasn't up to par imo. We got the jellyfish appetizer, mushroom larb with grilled shrimp, and fried rice. I've had jellyfish many times and I'm about 99% sure the "jellyfish" was actually Weilong konjac jelly snacks, which I do enjoy frequently as a snack pack, but is in no way jellyfish or acceptable as an actual restaurant dish. The other two dishes were good, but portions were small for the price point. The mushroom larb was very saucey and sweet, which I didn't expect from larb as it's usually a cleaner flavor. The fried rice was probably my favorite of the bunch. I enjoyed the charred flavor, but the rice itself was quite mushy. I'm not picky about that though, so I still enjoyed it. read more
