This place lacks flavor! I mean, it's an Asian spot so it better! This was .25 mile from our air bnb and I wanted to go back after we had dinner our first night in town here. Went on a Saturday night for dinner. We were seated promptly. We asked for waters, and my friend ordered a martini. Waters took 20 mins to come out. We then ordered food and asked about the martini. Eventually the waitress brought out 3 of our 4 dishes and asked if we needed anything else. I said "yes, we need the other dish we ordered and that martini." On the 4th time my friend asked about the martini, he was told "the bartender is not here, and no one working knows how to make a martini." Ummmm when were the staff planning to tell us that? They also brought my friend's pho out with none of the sauces. He had to remind the waitress that she is supposed to bring out sauces with this dish. No one once came to refill our waters even though we asked. The food was decent, nothing special but not bad. Oh also the parking situation there is super tough. Only a few tight spots in the lot. Rice Paper has excellent service, fresh and yet filling food and a really cute outdoor seating area. I highly recommend the banh mi's, rolls and honestly anything there... no but seriously. We went on a hot, busy day and there were only 2 people waiting on tables. Even if it was short staffed, food came out pretty quickly and the waiter took care of things fast & well. Ambiance was interesting with mannequins and a boat hanging on the wall, I guess it's supposed to be a modern take on traditional vietnamese theme. Being Christian, I didn't really like the huge statue of Buddha but other than that, everything was neat & clean. Parking is behind the restaurant and the ground does need to be repaved. There's also outside seating if you want more space but it might take a little longer to be waited on if you go on a busy day. Overall, the server made our experience there very memorable & pleasant! Decided to try this place today after attending a boat show Downtown. No seating inside, but a few tables outside. Decided that it was fine. The waiter attended to 3 tables near us and completely ignored us. After close to 15 minutes he graced us with his presence and brought the menues. We ordered 4 soups and pork rolls. It took them over 25 minutes to the the Pho soups. BTW the bean sprouts they brought have dark ends which means they have been sitting for a while. He finally brings the soups and asks if there is anything else we would like. We replied what about the rolls? Well they forgot. They brought 3 rolls when we were done eating the soup. Had to ask for water and napkins. Finally ask for a check. He brings the check and leaves. I go through the receipt, my credit card nowhere to be found. Had to send my son inside to go retriever it. Small cute corner restaurant with outdoor seating. Food was delicious. Saigon salad with pork is served in a large plate with fresh veggies and lots of meat. Their braised pork is served in a small cast iron with a side of rice. Meat was very tender but wished it was served on top of rice so all the juicy sauce gets soaked onto the rice. But it was still delicious. We got half off pho for Happy hour before 3pm on the weekends. The broth was so good. Tasted like there wasn't msg added but tasted homemade like how my mom used to make it. Note: we are a family of 5...tips were already included. 3:30 on a sunny Thursday afternoon with the girls is ideal. Not packed at that time, happy hour, sun is out, love is abundant, God is real. TL:DR - So many quirks to this place. Everything feels super Americanized version of traditional viet food, but it's still good. Banh mi served on a sub roll, way too much meat and mayo. Pho was not particularly light, meat was too thick, and waay too much noodles. Spring rolls were delicious, but tiny and over priced. The prices are way out of whack. Despite all this, the food is just that good and I will be back. ------------------------------------------------------------------- I really want to give this place 3.5 stars, but with the food quirks and the price, it gets the lower half. But this place literally feels like what would happen if a 2nd generation Vietnamese kid opened up a Vietnamese restaurant. Everything here is based on a traditional Vietnamese dish, but with something that just really makes it not traditional and very American, but the results are delicious none the less. A perfect example is the place serves fries with its sandwiches. I didn't get it but still. My partner and I got the spicy asian spring roll, pork banh mi, and a small bowl of pho. The spring rolls come in quantities of one, and despite what the server told me, they are not small burrito size. They are legitimately 1.5 times the size of a normal spring roll. The spicy asian spring roll was delicious, however. There was a good piece of lobster and it tasted very fresh. The pork banh mi was also delicious but FAR from traditional and very Americanized. The pork itself had a really good flavor and almost candied but the roll/bread was HUGE. It felt like a sub roll rather than the smaller traditional french baguette that typically comes with the banh mi. In addition, it was served with a HEALTHY serving of mayo and no pate. There was also literally less than 8 total shreds of pickled daikon and carrots in the sandwich. I had to ask for extra. So to sum up the banh mi, huge sub roll, little to no pickled veggies, heavy mayo, and a disproportionate amount of pork. This legit was felt like an American sub sandwich. I got the side salad, which was pretty standard. The dressing was delicious, however. It was like a honey lemon vinaigrette. The pho on the other hand again felt like a 2nd generation individual made it. The broth itself was super delicious, not as light as traditional pho, but still delicious. We got the smaller bowl, which was perfect size, but the actual amount of noodles in there was comically too much for the amount of soup you get. In addition, the meat was cut pretty thick. Almost like thin beef jerky rather than thinly sliced rib eye. This resulted in rather tough/chewy pho meat. The other issue I have is the pricing. $6 for a single spring roll, $12 for a small bowl of pho, and $13 for banh mi is entirely way too much. Prices should be about 2/3 of that to really be in line with other spots. With all the gripes I have about this place, I will still be back. Despite how expensive it is, how untraditional it is, the food is still really good. I just won't be back as often as I would be if it was cheaper. read more

I've driven past Rice Paper on 7th a million times and have always been intrigued. It's located on 7th (obviously) in one of the cool historic, brick built homes. The restaurant has exposed brick inside and appears to have more a pub type look than Asian restaurant. But don't let the interior fool you. The food is phenomenal. We ordered edamame and garlic noodles for apps. The garlic noodles were the highlight. For entrees we split a few rolls, which were all very tasty. The filet Mingon dish was tasty as well, but tiny. Wife and I love the food from Rice Paper and the ambiance during the off summer time is great. Service is great as well.

The pho dac biet I ordered was really good -- all the ingredients tasted really fresh, including the Vietnamese meatballs which often tastes off in other places (due to oxidation during refrigerated storage). I paired that with a reisling which complemented the flavors of the pho very nicely. BEST VIETNAMESE SANDWICHES When my best friend first told me about Rice Paper, I was skeptical. She said "I know this great Vietnamese place that has amazing french fries". I was confused thinking why would an authentic Vietnamese restaurant serve french fries. I tried their food and it blew me away! They have a mix of authentic Vietnamese food: pho and summer rolls. The also have some more Americanized items like french fries. I would highly recommend getting their Braised Pork Vietnamese Sandwich. We ordered 2 Buddha ($8-$9 a roll) & 1 enlighten me spring rolls, chicken pho, braised pork and the (tofu) hot skillet.. The prices are way too high for portion sizes. Plus the spring roll was mostly vermicelli noodle and no one really liked their dishes. Pho had hardly any noodles and was bland broth. My skillet was smothered in the sauce that was very sweet plus $22 for a small skillet of crispy rice!? There was a decent amount of mushrooms, a little bit of tofu, but the other vegetables were lacking. Also I thought our server was kind of rude. The other server for the table behind us was really nice and friendly, but she shoot her away and took over our table the way she put her dishes on the table from answering questions to handing over silverware just came off unfriendly and rude.. lastly, they have one bathroom. I have eaten here several times because I live nearby. I have always recommended Rice Paper for the Firecracker Shrimp appetizer and Surf & Turf Pho. Rice Paper offers a Happy Hour on Saturday and possibly other days but Saturday for sure. My brother and I eat here when he comes to town. Fairly recently, on a Saturday, we decided to have Pho. We pulled up at or around 2:50 and started looking at the Happy Hour specials. Our waitress took our drink order and disappeared. When she came back into our view, she kept checking her watch. I looked at my phone as she approached the table and it was 3:05. I asked if we could order off the Happy Hour menu and she replied, no, it's after 3. We paid for the drinks and walked out. I chucked this up to an inexperienced waitress and wasn't going to write a review or bash the place for one scenario. Around the end of December 2024, my brother was visiting. We went to dinner with a neighbor and ended up at Rice Paper. We noticed there was only one size Pho on the menu. Prior to this, there was a large and small listed, with two different price ranges. The small was around $16 and large was approximately $26. The price for the single size Pho they are now serving is $22. The restaurant had increased the small serving by $6(ish). Growing up in Little Saigon in SoCal, I have pretty high expectations for Vietnamese food and I would say this place reached them! Their happy hour drinks are all delicious and refreshing. We got the Dragon Lady and Lychijito. For food, we tried the lobster puffs (Americanized item for sure, but good), egg rolls, and braised pork. The eggrolls were good but the braised pork with quail eggs served on a cast iron skillet is what took the cake. The meat was tender, sauce flavorful, and the quail eggs were a treat.
