This has been our go-to sushi restaurant for years! Family owned and they go out of their way to get to know you. Yes, they may be slow, but it is because it's only the family working. We factor that into our visits and take-out orders. Their menu doesn't change, it's mostly local's that frequent the place, and it's always high-quality sushi! If you go to the restaurant to eat-in, pack your patience and have another glass of wine. The food won't disappoint. read more

So I have come here ocassiinally with my family for Years. Food has been good, service friendly, slow but friendly. The last 2 visits have been the final straw on rudeness. We always come place our order, eat, say thanks and leave, nothing extra. This time she went out of her way to make us unwelcome. Helped all the othe tables but us. We enjoyed a dinner sitting at the bar. Loved watching the sushi chef almost as much as I loved the miso soup! The miso soup was a 5 out of 5 for me. Yum with generous amount of tofu. We are plant based so ordering sushi rolls was confusing because none were on the menu and our server was swamped. We made it easy on her and order a cucumber avocado roll and a sweet potato roll. My husband loved the cucumber avo roll and I preferred the sweet potato so it was a match made in heaven. We will be back but hope someday they add some clearly marked plantbased options on the menu and I will add a star! Love that this is a family restaurant too! read more

Reasons for 2 stars: No online menu anywhere. When you go in and ask for a to go menu, non available. Does this stop this place from being busy? Nope! Is it busy? Yup!!!!!! To go orders usually take a minimum of 1 to 1.5 hour during peak eating times. Rolls are nothing over the top - not in size or flavor. Across from Kroger. Few doors away from Thai Basil Kitchen. This is the chirashi bowl and I get it every time! I know you may say why? Well it's actually different every time! My wife and I love the fact that they give us this time to decompress and to actually talk with each other, what? Yeah, it's like that. If you're in a rush go next door to Black Diamond . This is the first time I have come to this restaurant and loved it right away. I haven't had that much sushi at all because it's so expensive. If you are in the mood for good sushi that isnt that expensive this is the place to go. I got a whole chicken teriyaki bento box for $10. It doesn't look like much when you get it but it will fill you up. I didn't want the tempura so they substituted it with more sushi rolls and I loved that. It is so quaint and very family friendly. It's a small local sushi bar with a few tables so they only have 2 servers so don't be in a big hurry when you go. You definitely get the neighborhood feel. Food was alright but the service was horrible. U walk in and no one greets you. Sit down and u have to get up to ask for a menu. The lady came to our table once so we ordered food and it took forever. We were by the door and watched and more people would come in and the same thing happened. There was a couple sitting there for 25 minutes and didn't even have menus another couple came in and left another couple came and had to get up after 15 to ask for menus and a waiter. They weren't even busy so what the heck is so hard about greeting the guests and getting them a menu. They need to get rid of that woman waitress. She was older and she's the only one working. She was very clueless. I am bummed we trusted the reviews and went so I had to warn people don't come if u want good service. The food was not amazing enough so deal with the staff. read more

Amazing experience. Sat at the bar for dinner & watched the chef prepare each dish by hand. Food & service were both top notch. Regulars engaged us & shared their favorites. I wish I could give this place more stars. My wife and kids are super picky eaters. They're also vegetarians but I'm not so it's always a challenge to find a place we all like. I was sure nobody would agree to go to sushi. We did and we never looked back. This is our go to place every week for a nice sit down meal. The family that runs this place is incredible! What can I say, one of the best sushi restaurants I've ever eaten at and I'm a huge sushi fan and critic. Get there early because they can get busy! One of my favorite places to eat! We absolutely love Kitani. We eat here almost weekly. It's the most flavorful and freshest sushi around. Kitani is a small family run business that never disappoints! Came to this location due to the convenience of how close it is to the house, and our favorite sushi place wasn't open (too bad our one year anniversary didn't fall on a Tuesday). Walked in, and very mellow atmosphere with the TVs on and country music in the background (as I found, later, they played a variety of music but not really relevant to the dining). We were greeted by a lady who was very friendly, as well as the Sushi Chef. The service was above average for sure. I started off with the Miso Soup and my honey had a ginger salad. I've found I can judge a good sushi place based off their Miso soup and this place had very good Miso soup with generous helpings of tofu. I'd give the soup a 4 out of 5 alone. My honey liked the salad and it was also a bigger size. I ordered a hot sake, which they brought a napkin with to pour it (brownie points for not burning my fingers), and it was pretty good with a decent amount of pours. The house Chardonnay my honey ordered wasn't so great, but a decent pour. The rolls were not bad at all for the price. We had the double tuna, spicy dynamites and lava volcano roll (which the sushi chef added fresh jalapeños too and kicked it up to how I like my rolls, spicy!). The wasabi wasn't potent which disappointed me but the rolls were good and sushi did taste fairly fresh. I didn't really have a favorite roll though, and the one I liked was mainly bc of the fresh jalapeños. I will say, the service/price/location/soup will bring us back again and I'd recommend for those that love close by who want a decent sushi place that won't cost an arm and leg. read more

Tried the basic sushi rolls such as shrimp tempura roll and spider roll. Both are good. Service is a bit slow but I wasn't too concerned. There was only one server on the floor. We went during peak dinner time and as the craziness winded down, service speed picked up. Both of my children enjoyed the salmon teriyaki bento box and the miso soup. Price is good. 3 sushi rolls and a bento box for $31 excluding tips. Would come back again for sure. read more

Great service, Lee was incredible... I came in around closing time after my wife gave birth to have a good quick meal, and they were about wrapped up for the night. I asked if I was an inconvenience and Lee invited me to sit down. After a great conversation and even better food I left with a full stomach and a smile on my face. Overall, great place to go get a bite to eat and relax after a long day, incredibly friendly staff and Lee was just a pleasure to speak to. I ordered the sushi and sashimi combo, excellent quality food, finely executed and I enjoyed the company. People talk about standing room only at lunch, but the place was practically empty at noon. Service was fine. Rolls were ok. Nothing special. This seems to be a neighborhood hangout as the locals seem to know each other. Unfortunately, had to listen to a woman -mature enough to know better-play a video on her phone at top volume. And then proceed to walk around to get her pickup order talking at the top register as if she thought everyone was interested in what she had to say. Wow, just wow! Haven't really searched for a sushi spot in the area, but hubby was in a sushi state of mind when we were done shopping, so I turned to Yelp. It's a cozy little bar with some of the freshest sushi we've had. We were amazed that this place was standing room only on a Monday night, so that alone should tell you something. My family and I stopped in during late dinner time, and the place was pretty full. I was greeted by the waitress with "just one minute" before she walked away. I stood at the doorway for 10 minutes, and I was again greeted with "just one minute" afterwards. I stood there for another 15 minutes before deciding to leave. We have been eating Mr. and Mrs. Lee's sushi for so many years now. First in Suwanee and now in Cumming. Everything is delicious and made to order. There may be a wait, but it is very worth it. Our group of five people were sat with another group of 5 people at one of four Hibachi tables. We were the first seated at 6:30, and our server was Jadora. She took our drink order, food order, and soup/salad order, while the other 3 tables in the room were being seated. All 3 other tables were seated, and received their drinks, their soup/salad orders, and one table even started cooking their hibachi before our soup/salad arrived. I brought this up to the manager, and who our server was, and he said "He would take care of us." My wife & mother-in-law ordered Mojito's, and I don't know what they received, but they weren't Mojito's. My wife had them remade, and they still were not correct. Then when the cook was making our meals, 3 of us had Filet Mignon. Yet he only brought enough meat for 2, and had to be told that the 3rd person also had Filet. During this, Jadora came by and asked if anyone needed drink refills. Despite trying to get her attention twice, she never once looked at me and walked away. Upon getting the check, the manager came by and said "I took care of you." Apparently taking care of us was taking off less than 10%, and still charging us the 20% for the substandard service. Being forced to give a 20% tip for this kind of crappy service is not right, and to say "You're going to take care of us" and barely give us 1/2 off 1 persons meal is not good customer service. We will definitely be thinking twice before returning here for Hibachi again.
