I just want to say we really love the food here our issue is the place was empty except for take out. We waited almost 45 minutes and they brought out the appetizer it was supposed to be fried wontons and they gave us crab ragoon then we ordered no onions as my wife is allergic and the food was loaded with onions. I have given a Review before for Happy Family because they are my family's FAVORITE Chinese restaurant in Cumming, GA. But, something has changed... The crab rangoon was practically empty inside the wrapper. There was literally a smear of crab filler inside the wonton. The wonton soup was rationed out as if it was part of a lunch combo (1-wonton), but it was ordered as a Small. My son was disappointed because he said usually it has at least 2 wontons in the soup. The chicken lo mien noodles and sauce were just different (can't put my finger on it, but something has changed and I was not a fan). And, our order always exceeds the $50 marker where they advertise a "free" item. This time, our order was $70, but no free appetizer or dessert. Generous seating, good table service. Haven't eaten out Chinese in sooooo long. Presentation was good. They thought of the details with the Spider Roll and the ginger wasabi . Had the Nigori Sake Gekkeikan not bad. Happy Family was good, fresh veggies had a crisp snap, husband had the Red Curry Chicken. First I'd like to say I'm thankful for the opportunity and experience. The food was great just too spicy. I do not recommend this restaurant they do not have good customer service in restaurant. I did not leave a tip because the service was so bad. The elderly woman who served me for lunch this past Thursday added a dollar to the tip section on my receipt. I saw the total the next day on my bank statement. I had the receipt in photo so I know that was not the total. She also placed the ticket down with the entrée . I posted the picture to show this. The staff ignored when I made my exit even though I was polite. I advise if you're going to eat here let it be take out don't go in person. Been here many times, it's usually consistent and very good. Today we dined in and I had the Kung Pao Chicken, which comes fried rice, choice of Crab Rangoon or eggroll, and choice of soup. Skip this one. This is the worst restaurant I have ever been to. The food is horrific. My guess is that they think people here don't know what real Chinese, Japanese or Thai food taste like. It upsets me that they are serving this food to customers and passing it off as authentic. It's not. I love Happy Family so much. Tonight, I'm disappointed. I ordered my chicken mei fun. It wasn't fun. Barely any chicken. Hardly any flavor. Lukewarm. And I asked for medium spice. No spice and previously mentioned, not much flavor. Is it because we ordered carry out? Maybe another day will be better. Just called for our annual Christmas meal. She said it was a 2 hour wait time. I asked my husband if he would like to put through the order because it was going to be a two hour wait for pick up. She was pissed that I took two seconds to ask him, did a big sigh on the phone, and hung up on me. They just lost out on $250 order. And lost our weekly $100 orders. They used to give great service. They drop my order off at the wrong place twice and one night. I called them the third time, because I waited outside and saw them, attempting to deliver it to the wrong person again. After that, I decided never to order delivery from them again. The last time I ordered, I order for pick up. I ordered sweet-and-sour pork, and when I got home and saw my order, there was zero sweet-and-sour sauce on the pork. Never in my life have I been asked to correct a tip before. Food was fine- if a bit over priced, $90 bill and left a $10 tip, which I thought was plenty fair, my family already heading out the door into the rain when the waitress approached me asking if everything was fine with the service, it was and I said as much- then she directed me to the tipping cheat-sheet printed on the back of the receipt and informed me I needed to increase my tip to a minimum of 15% (a little over $12). I couldn't care less about the $2, but I am appalled that I was asked to increase my tip, by any amount. We have been pretty loyal customers of this place for years. But I will never eat there again. My boyfriend and I used to come here often as our lunch place after church, however my experience yesterday was awful. The server did not leave my table until I put my card down free I asked her to split the check. Before that she wanted to argue with me about how she "knows the price" and she wanted me to take her word for it... My boyfriend paid cash for his. He paid over the bill & needed change back. Then she brings me my card back, but not the remaining cash from my boyfriends bill and walks off. She had NO intention of bringing the money to my table until I walked up to the host and complained. I'm sorry but that is STEALING. And that is against the law!! Not to mention she blocks in my boyfriend from leaving his side of the booth. I literally had to get up and tell her "excuse us were leaving have a good day" For her to move out of the way. All were fantastic for dinner and even lunch the next day. The only downside is that they will not let you upgrade to pork fried rice with your meal, only fried or white rice. I'd avoid this place if I were you; food poisoning is not fun. The crab Rangoon appetizer tasted like bad fake crab and was a weird consistency. Sake here was the worst I've had anywhere. But then, there was the sushi. The spider roll and rainbow roll almost immediately sent me into stomach cramps until it came back up. Between the pale salmon and the browned avocado (and the tuna was not the pinkish red hue I'm used to, much more pale and a bit more brown), I should have pushed this away without even touching it, I was just really hungry. The spider roll wasn't much better, I'm used to actual tempura not fried Panko crumbs. Not eating here again, the only thing I good I can say is they took the offending meal off the bill and packed up my friend's meal to go. I'm hoping he doesn't get sick too. read more
