3 years ago I got a replacement top for my Porsche 911. Due to a lack of selection, it was recommended that I use a fabric from the BMW line-up. They had a color shift twill that changed from black to platinum gray. The top fit perfectly, and has held up to the elements spectacularly. The do it yourself assistance was great. The top of our BMW convertible decided to stop working, and this place fixed it quickly and was very reasonably priced!

Took my car in a while back to replace the interior upholstery and when I picked up there car I noticed the interior was filthy since they had not cleaned up after themselves, when I asked the worker to clean it, he said I brought the car in like that... not true! A lot of the parts they fixed did not fit back in snuggly and had large gaps in between each other. When I pointed it out to the worker he brushed it off and was extremely rude to me but turned around and started speaking in their native language to the other staff and then threw his arms in the air and walked away. I did get the car vacuumed out by a nice lady. They didn't plug my visor lights back in, and when I asked the worker about that, he also stated it came in like and refused to fix it... read more

I got a recommendation to use this shop for redoing the leather in my wonderful Lexus. The end product looked as good as the factory Lexus workmanship. The job was done on time and reasonably priced. Also if one needs a rental car while theirs is being worked on they do car rentals right there. This business has been around for quite a long time and has expensive cars being worked on there like Rolls Royce etc. so I think one can feel comforted that they do great work. I haven't used their body shop so no comment about that other business of theirs. read more

Rich and Famous did my SL 500 top installation for a reasonable price and they had it done in one day. I found them on Yelp when I was searching after my top had been vandalized and cut open. I called and a receptionist answered and transferred me to John. John gave me an estimate over the phone and suggested I send pictures via smartphone or email but I didn't bother since his estimate was desirably priced. I brought my car in on a monday and I met with a technician, Ruben, who gave me a timeline for the job and wrote up a "work order," which was basically what I wanted done on the car, and I signed it. Ruben told me the job would be done tomorrow, which was a surprise because I imagined it would take a while to change the convertible top. Overall, they did a very satisfactory job and my new top made my car look killer. read more

R&F repaired the top on my XJS convertible. I had actually gone there to inquire about restoring the seat leather and asked them about a spot on the rear of the back seat that the convertible top was constantly rubbing on opening/closing. John advised me that one of the straps in the top needed replacement or else any repair of the seat back would be a waist of time. The shop repaired the top and recovered the seats in matching leather. The work was very good. It did take a bit longer than expected(most good work does) and then the front office miscommunicated to me the date it would be finished. When I arrived and it wasn't done, they offered me a free rental for the day to bridge the time until it would be finished. I would definitely use them again. The repair costs were cheaper than another auto upholstery place I had used previously. The body shop also did very good work on my girlfriend's car. read more

I first went to Rich and Famous to get my 1996 SL 500 convertible top rear window replaced. They did an excellent job and it made a world of difference. Then when my convertible top stopped working, they replaced the hydraulics to get it working again. Can't have the convertible not work in Southern California! Then I went back to get my driver's seat re-cushioned and my steering wheel re-wrapped. And again, they did an outstanding job. Highly recommend Rich and Famous. read more

Sadly all of the bad reviews are true! Don't get me wrong, years ago John and the crew were good guys. Apparently that was a very long time ago. Where should I start? Maybe we'll start with the angry family members who generally ignore you and then scream 1 word answers at you. As if that wasn't bad enough, it's the classic bait and switch. They start you low and everything else is extra. Now, I don't have a problem paying big money for a job done right! But rich and famous are far from doing anything right. I was heart broken after they ruined my vintage Mercedes. They patched the leather together with uneven pieces, patterns, seems and added seems where they weren't supposed to be. Mind you the car was completely original and the pattern was right there. When I confronted them, "JOHN!" Is what the guy working said. That is the extent of customer service. JOHN! is a nice guy but he does not honor his prices, nor does he stick to what he promises. I had to go back 3 times and call them out for doing improper work and charging too much. On top of that, I asked to see my original pieces- a Ca state law! What a surprise they claimed they didn't have them. FRAUD! I will be filing a claim with BAR, aka bureau of automotive repair. Unprofessional and ripped me off. I wouldn't suggest taking your car here. Dropped off my car for a diagnosis and coding at 9am. Told the owner, John that I needed the car back by the end of the day. I told him if it isn't possible I would not be able to leave the car, no worries. He said he would get it done. Called at 3pm to inquire about the car. Was told John was busy and I would get a call back. Never got a call back. Called at 4:45pm as I knew they closed at 5. John said they will be closing soon and I can't get my car. 3 Ubers and 24 hours later... I'm back to pick up my car at the end of day 2. They had no idea what the problem is so they just unplugged the mechanism and said they "coded" the car. By coding, they meant clearing all of the fault codes. As I later saw after visiting my mechanic... no actually coding or computer reset was done. These guys are a joke. Charged me $250 to do this "work" which really should've taken no more than 30 minutes and did not get me any closer to solving the problem. In addition to that, they inconvenienced me and I spent another $80 on Ubers dealing with not having a car. read more

He did one of the poorest jobs on my BMW and pocketed a ton from the insurance. He is all about the $$$$ and cares less about customer service. I brought these people a Mercedes-Benz I'm restoring and now I find myself needing to REDO all that I brought for them to do AND MORE! I supplied them a wood kit to install, they cut it ALL WRONG, DID NOT remove the old backing, I now have cement all over the place that I CAN'T get off thus rendering the wood kit useless and now I have to replace THAT....AGAIN! They were asked to reupholster the driver seat, they used cheap ass leather that was the WRONG SHADE that was all "orange peel", they didn't put the roll padding that's in the "ribs" of the seat itself and now I have to REDO THAT TOO! I wouldn't let these useless knuckleheads re-upholster a patio furniture chair seat cushion, let alone a car and install wood trim!!! If you like your car: DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE, you'll be in for a nightmare! read more

I have a 99 BMW M3 Conv. they replaced my TOP with a new Green top. i got the optional tinted rear plastic window. The new top is still in great condition 4 years later! i didnt take good care of the rear window so now needed repair. I have gone back for a new rear window and will take better care by using the recommended plastic window cleaner that helps keep the plastic solf and clear. I have also had them replace the motors for the top, Everyone is always very friendly and professional. the prices are right and work is always top notch! I was recommend to them, buy someone that used them on a regular basis. I will say I have one good experience, do I brought in 3 more cars for headliner replacement. I was told an amount a delivery day and time no haggling on the prices ever. So, my uncle pick up one of the vehicles for my client. To this disappointment and mine, they damage the roof of the car using the wrong size screws. Yes they damage the roof finish and dented it up words. Yes the screws were to long. Before that I had brought them some custom fit seat cover that didn't fit, so they could resize them, at the same time I brought them a car to have the leather section of the seat replaced. They car seat repair was great, but they seat covers took 3 weeks and I lost the 3 year long customer. Do to a $40 repair! My customer was looking forward to driving his car this Easter weekend. But now the roof has to be body repair and reprinted because the paint was broken and dented upwards. To top it off they don't want to repair the damage and wanted me to pay the bill! They have 0 customer service and treat people poorly. I've done business with them for off an on, 12 years. Believe me it cost me a rental car for 5 days and having to repair the customers car at my cost. The right front bumper of my car came off the other day and since I am new to Los Angeles I had no idea what auto shop I could go to that would be trustworthy and efficient. I was referred by AutoZone to go to the Rich & Famous Auto Shop in Van Nuys. I went and they said I needed screws for the front bumper in order to keep it secured properly. Even though I did not have an appointment they brought my car in the shop and started working on it right away. It took them 13 minutes to fix my bumper and it was free of charge. I was very happy and surprised that they were willing to help me on short notice and I actually felt bad that they didn't charge me. This is a great shop with some great people and I am very happy with their work. If you ever need anything done for your car I recommend going to see them. You won't be disappointed. read more

I have never dealt with less professional place . Called for a convertible top, got a price and said I think about it, john ask me to please ask for him. So the same day I called back around 1 pm , he is not in and lady can't tell me anything. I left my number and never heard back so I called and now he is gone for the day. OK, next day called again and left number, he called back 9 hours later and I missed the call and call back within like 5 minutes, this is around 4 pm and he is gone for the day again so I left my number. Here we are 6 days later and I am still waiting , just to tell him I would never do any business with him cause if this is a preview when he doesn't have the money, I would shudder to think what would happen after he gets the money. Behaviors follows a pattern and his is anything but professional! ALso I notice that the ONLY positive reviews are from before august last year and the last year has been nothing but extremely negative ones, when someone takes of work at noon and not return for extended periods, it is a sign of trouble. read more

I brought in my 2013 F30 328i to them a immediatly after I bought the car. When I bought the car, I didn't have a lot of options for the interior coloring because of the packages I wanted. I was referred to Rich & Famous by a friend, and I couldn't be happier. Even though they were quite busy, they took their time showing me my options for red leather. I wouldn't put low quality upholstery in my car, but when I felt the leathers texture and thickness, I decided I would purchase an interior make over through Rich & Famous. In the few days it took them to re-do my upholstery, they loaned me a VW Golf. It was appreciated to have a rental car that had everything working properly, clean and full of gas. When I got the car back, they did such a good job. All the leather was perfectly cut. There was no weird gaps or excess leather. It looks stock. Super tight, nothing is loose. About two and a half years later (Today) the leather is still in excellent condition. No cracks or color fading. I'm pleased beyond beleif. Money well spent. Thanks John. read more

I was lucky to find this place. I was looking and looking for a place to have my 1998 BMW m3 convertible top replaced. I also opted to convert my electrical two motor top system into a simple manually operated top as they can be very cumbersome. First off they gave me the lowest quote of everyone in the Southern California area. I called about 10 places and rich and famous beat all competitors quotes by anywhere from $100 to $600. And that was with the conversion included which requires some custom modification. I got domestic sailcloth and it looks just as good as the new dealer tops. The car was dropped off on Wednesday night and ready Friday morning! They did not cut any corners, the top is fitted perfectly, and the car has a much better appearance now. RICH AND FAMOUS manufactures their own upholstery products and sell to auto upholstery installers, just skip the middleman! Don't be fooled by the other auto upholstery places, they are mostly middle men that don't fabricate the top just install them! And charge you more for the top. read more

Color-matching, perforation pattern, texture and stiching were perfect. Undercushion was also restored with fresh foam--seamless, smooth, superb. On the jag, other technical issues presented--precision installation of door panels ensuring weather-tight closure while avoiding binding (difficult). In the trunk (boot) complete surface carpeting installed again, with precision. At any price for the work, it was a good deal for its sheer quality and beauty, but, in fact, the cost was very reasonable and I would recommend Rich and Famous without reserve. read more

I search high and low for someone to repair my seal without any luck until I called Chatsworth Upholstery. Upon calling to see if Rich & Famous could help me, the lady was so helpful and considerate I felt like I was in another world. She informed me of the best time to come and nothing was an issue.
