He advised me on which parts to buy. He even left it up to me to source the parts or have him do it. That's transparency! Once I had the parts, he was able to get the car in and out in under a week! Went to this shop because of the positive reviews but unfortunately I had a horrible experience with Lionel. He suggested not to worry about the rear spoiler not working, cleared the check engine code on my 996 911 and informed me that my car had too many problems. Wished me luck and walked away. I've been using this shop for almost 40 years, dating back to when it was Aurel and Don's. Leonel has worked there for the last 20+ years. They've maintained 7 different Porsches for me, ranging in vintage from 1971 through 2014, all 911s except for one Boxster. They were easy to deal with, and the cars always ran well after they'd been there. When Don and Rudy (Aurel's younger brother) retired a few years ago, they turned the shop over to Leonel. Since he'd been doing almost all the actual work since he first showed up, I had no reason to change, and he's carried on the tradition of affability and excellent work at reasonable prices. Leonel also seems to have good sources for parts, and is sometimes able to get them for less that I can. We've still got 4 of those 911s and all of them show up there from time to time for work I don't want to do myself. I'd recommend LA European without hesitation. read more

These guys serviced my 1988 Carrera for over 10-years and did a superb and HONEST job. There's talk on here about not being "cheap". This shop is absolutely cost effective: with Porsche, knowing what needs to be fixed is 1/2 the challenge. If my car had a problem, which it almost NEVER did once they maintained it, Don knew what it was right away. There was no chasing a problem. Well. I have since had the car repaired by a real reputable mechanic. The only thing that I told him was that the engine light was on. I did not mention that you had failed to make the repair. I was contacted after they inspected the car and he was able to tell me EXACTLY what the problem was; no guess work; no mumble jumble. He repaired it as well as other small things that he found and the car now runs well. No check engine Light is on since I picked it up. The problem is that you spent more time responding on yelp than you did inspecting my car. Is there a chance that you could learn from this incident? Ok, so they ain't cheap, but you drive a Porsche so what would you expect? Parts cost what they cost, they are all oem. The labor is less than main dealer but still stings a bit. What you are paying for is a detailed knowledge of complicated cars so to me it is worth it. Main dealer service is a mega con. They are great at fixing my car, very detailed, very good at discussing any issues. They do just the right amount of to fix your cars problem, without needlessly up-selling you. They are good at letting you know what it will cost upfront and calling if anything changes. Also make sure they inspect the car for anything else. They will find the lighbulbs you thought were working etc. I am glad my car doesn't go wrong very often. When it does I go here. read more

Don and Rudy are great,really experienced. I got a lot of work done, first on a 2001 Carrera it now on my 2007. Nice people with whom to deal ,but they also make the correct diagnosis initially and then fix it at a reasonable price. I just had an issue with my car and I had it towed to the shop which was 112 miles away from where I was. I do have a 100 mile tow plan with AAA because I can get the car to them if I'm out of town. Have done a couple of services here and good guys, knowledgeable and honest. Had a weird problem with ignition switch that they solved, just replacing one component instead of the whole ignition unit. Great and cost effective! Just took a Boxster in for oil service and Lionel, who now runs the shop, was entirely knowledgeable and corrected a mistake another shop had made with the wrong oil. They're not cheap, but they're the best. Nobody knows Porsches better than Rudy and Don. Their mechanics are very pleasant, always willing to show you what they're doing. These guys are proud of the work they do. If ever I've had a problem after work was done, they've taken care of it quickly and at no cost. Also, I once had a squeak in my brakes and asked them to see if I needed new pads or rotors. They took out dental mirrors and inspected everything and said, "nope, your brakes are fine." Any mechanic that tells you your car is okay is a good one to me. I'm happy to recommend them to any Porsche owner. read more

My experience with these guys lasted five minutes. I guess the owner hadn't had his Monday morning caffeine, maybe he thought I was lying to him. Whatever it is, here is the story. Make what you want of it. I'm super disappointed and yet am still willing to work with them, which says something very positive about the read I got on his shop, but passive aggressive behavior results in reviews like this. I hold no malice, but be prepared when entering this place. I drove my '03 996 down from San Jose last week and noticed some rattling in the front suspension. I put in new sway bar bushings about eighteen months ago, but remembered that I had never had the opportunity to torque two main suspension bolts so I was concerned and wanted to have them looked over. Pulled up, was greeted kindly by Aurel, explained what was going on. At first he was willing to look at the car today, then it turned into tomorrow, then he said "I think you should take it to an authorized dealer. Come back next time." When has an indy mechanic ever said such a thing?? Was it because I knew that the right inner tie rod end was worn? He didn't bother to ask how I found that out (by getting under the car while it was on pavement and having someone else shake the wheel back and forth while I felt around for vibration). Was it because I had a flight the next day and he was in too much of a hurry to try and figure out some way to resolve the situation? Did it have something to do with the way I parted my hair? I can't imagine that to be true, he was nice enough when I drove up. Did it have something to do with the fact I knew that the main bolts required roughly 150 ft-lbs of torque and he just decided that I wasn't a good enough mechanic to give him my car? All I can imagine was that he didn't like that I turned a wrench on it myself. I can appreciate that, and I even asked him to "please" reconsider looking at the car before writing him off. How much does a fellow driver in need have to do to get a mechanic with sympathy to the fact I am on a road trip and my tools are 350 miles away? I'm quite sure these guys will never have this situation because they seem to be master mechanics based on the population of fine vintage Porsches in the garage. Such mechanics always seem to have vehicles that never leave one stranded, an excellent thing. Yet things do break and at some point the attitude is going to get in the way of finding some compassion from the person that has what he needs. And when he does actually find himself measuring his humanity by the mercy someone else serves him, I hope he thinks about how he treated me today and cringes. read more

Don and Rudi (who took over from Aurel) are simply the best. They are honest, trustworthy and treat you as a family friend. Last time, I needed just a brake light bulb replaced and they did not just the one, but the other brake light too (it was close to burning out on inspection) and, because I am a regular, didn't charge me a cent. I have been going there for years and the only time I didn't was because my new(er) Porsche was under warranty at Rusnak. And Aurel & Don's were the ones who recommended that I trade in my Porsche at the time as that particular model didn't have a good track record after 100,000 and mine was getting up there! Can't say enough good things about Aurel and Don's attitude and quality. After having been rolled by local dealerships, Don and Rudy fixed the things the dealer claimed to have repaired, but didn't. They replaced "new" parts that I paid for from previous repairs that turned out to be used. And for a car that's as complicated as a Carrera, their prices aren't cheap, but fair. Owning a Porsche isn't a cheap date and for lots of places it's a license to steal. That's not the case at Aurel and Don's. These guys are straight up. My 997 has never run better. read more

This is a terrific repair facility. Rudy and Don are extremely knowledgeable relative to all Porsche models. I have owned a variety of Porsche models over the years including a 356B , and they have always done superb work. All questions are answered clearly. They only do needed work and never try to pad the work order. The work is done quickly yet I have never had to bring a car back for rework on the same repair. I'm pleased to recommend them. But what sets them a part from other Porsche mechanics is their passion that is shared with the customer. They make you feel at home, like part of their neighborhood family. Over the years I have brought various models to them with many mechanical and technical questions and they never make me feel like a burden or annoyance. I once said to them, I'll drive it, you'll fix it, and that's exactly what transpired for almost 3 decades. Finding the right mechanic to fix and service your car is as important as the right doctor or lawyer and Aurel & Don's are it. I give Aurel and Don's Independent Porsche Service a five-star rating, only because Yelp doesn't allow a higher rating! I've been taking my Porsches (1974 911 and, next, a 1982 911 SC) to Aurel and Don's (and Rudy) for a total of almost forty years. To keep my comments from becoming a book-length story with too many details, I'll simply say that without reservation or exception, the five-star ratings and supporting comments already posted by other customers are accurate and not exaggerated. Over those many years of servicing my Porsches, at regular intervals, and whenever something unexpected and unavoidable has occurred, my cars--and I--have been the beneficiaries of their: 1) straightforward evaluations of problems and repair/replace recommendations; 2) accurate estimates of cost and time needed to fix; 3) decades of knowledge and experience; 4) persistence in diagnosing and fixing those sometimes difficult, mysterious and odd problems that occasionally arise; and 5) extremely fair and very reasonable billing for their work (labor and parts). One other thing further sets them apart from everyone else: their patience in answering questions and clearly explaining things in simple language so that the customer understands what is wrong, what should be done and why. The really amazing thing is that Aurel and Don's (and Rudy) have been consistent, reliable and dependable in providing that level of service quality over the course of nearly forty years! And one more thing about how they put the customer's interests first: my '74 911 got to the point where major work--a complete engine and transmission overhaul--was required. But rather than go ahead with the necessary work (and billing a fair but very healthy sum), they encouraged me to instead sell the '74 911 and buy a 911 SC. I favored having them do the work, but they kept on insisting that an investment in a 911 SC would be a much better choice for the amount of money at stake. I finally relented. I sold the '74 911 and found an '82 SC, which they examined and OK'd prior to purchase. I've been very happy and very grateful to them ever since. Aurel and Don's (and Rudy) are, in a word, totally trustworthy, and their integrity is beyond question. But, alas, my story ends sadly: I now live in Reno, Nevada, and my only regret is that Aurel and Don's (and Rudy) remain in their current and long-time location in North Hollywood on Lankershim Blvd. just south of the 134 freeway. read more
