Some good and some bad... Let's do this. The good: Friendly Experienced technician The bad: -I was quoted 1.5 hours, job took 6. Not sure when the vehicle made it in but I had called the week prior to make an appointment to avoid being car-less too long. -I was also quoted $79 for an alignment. I needed two cam washers installed on bolts that required attention FOR AN ALIGNMENT. Total was $103 before tax AND WITH A 10%, NEW CUSTOMER DISCOUNT. The justification for the 20% price increase, washer installation. As a mechanic, I know everyone needs to get paid but bringing a nut an additional 8 threads to add a washer isn't worth $30. -I wasn't notified of any price changes until it came time for me to pay. When I brought it to their attention, although friendly, I was told it is as stands. -I asked for my trans oil to be double checked as I was struggling to get a consistent reading. Although noted on the ticket to check, no update as to where it stood. Super bummed. Sticking to one's word is important to me. With both quotes being so radically different, I can't say I'd suggest this place or come back, as friendly as they were. read more

I had a great experience with Richard's Auto clinic. My check engine light suddenly came on so I took the car in the very next day. They diagnosed the issue and replaced my piston and a spark plug. My vehicle was running good as new. No attempts to upsell. They did give me recommendations for next services. I did have to leave my vehicle overnight but it was ready by noon. I will definitely do business with Richard's Auto clinic in the future. Finally, the shop owner gave me a call today to see how my car was doing and to make sure that I was happy with the service. I LOVE Richards Auto Clinic! I have been taking my vehicles there for the past 12 years, actually just picked my "truck" up today. I drive my cars into the ground. Literally, I do not have a the cash to just weed through new cars, or replace old ones... I put huge miles on my vehicles... It started with a 1980/1 Chrysler LeBaron, Petri, the car that couldn't fly... The guys at the shop managed to help keep that thing running for as long as it ran. From oil changes, belts, tune ups, anything and everything Petri needed, he got (Thanks Dad ;)). I would go hang out because I had to have my car the minute it was ready. Which meant for certain repairs, it was ready the same day. Now, mind you, that was a loooooong time ago and I wouldn't recommend just hanging out, especially not in the summer, just wait for them to call and they will... Reuniting with your car will feel so good. HA! It's the truth, because every time I have gotten my car back, it's been great, seriously. Then it was, the '89 golf... I hated that thing, and it hated me. Massive spillage of some sort, pouring everywhere out of my engine, late one night in west phoenix. Well, Ron and the guys magically fixed that, stupid thing ran for a long while after that too I'm sure, until I decided I'd had enough and upgraded to a 1993 LeBaron, Sally. Man that thing was fast. Anyway, I know for a fact they serviced that vehicle for me as well. Now, I'm on to a faceless X-terra without a name... I say faceless because it's missing a front end. I want to try to repair that with my son, so I haven't inquired about it at Richards... I just picked it up for a new catalytic convertor, and shocks both of which were desperately needed. Emissions coming around and whatnot, even better, Ron had mentioned it to me some time last year that I would be needing one, I think when I went in for a stud/screw/whatever its called, that Discount Tire couldn't remove when I went in for a tire repair. However, I will say this, over the past decade and four cars that I have owned, I don't trust anyone else to touch my ride. I must admit that I haven't been anywhere else to see if there is a 'bargain', but, I know the dealership charged more for oil changes than at the shop. My knowledge of reliable, honest mechanics is that its a special trade that one must be skilled to do appropriately and honestly. Well, that's these guys, and they do a kick butt job at it! I have always heard people talking about how difficult it is to find a good mechanic, well, I must have gotten lucky to begin with because I've never had a complaint. Tell your friends, take your car in for your next oil change just to check them out, I'd call ahead of time though, just as a heads up, or you can probably just stop by and say hi to them they're super friendly. As for the guard dog... Well, you'll have to check that out for yourself. I'm a for life customer, and would proudly claim them as my mechanic for any car repair needs, any day! read more

I was a customer for two years until one time when they told me that I needed further repairs, even after the car had spent several days in the shop. I called to tell them that I was going to pick up the car, but the shop told me that I could not pick up my car because they wanted more repairs to be done. After reminding them of my rights as a customer, the shop relented and I took the car home without receiving an appropriate apology. I will not be a returning customer after this experience because it caused me undue stress and confusion for at least three hours of my day. My review of RICHARDS AUTO CLINIC is "bittersweet" I encountered engine failure in route to work, my Mini literally DIED while driving; since RICHARDS AUTO was the nearest REPUTABLE shop I decided to take my car there for repair. Turned out the VERY HIGH $1200. quoted for replacing the "fuel pump" (DIAGNOSED) for $128....turned out to be a bad "fuel filter" ONLY costing me $533 after I reluctantly took the advice of boyfriend to have it towed to an ACTUAL MINI Cooper repair shop. Oh my GOD! I'm so glad I listened (this time) LOL. Subsequently, I contacted RICHARDS AUTO requesting a partial reimbursement for the hefty charge for the potential extremely costly MISDIAGNOSIS. Both "Russ" & "Ron" were quite agreeable to giving my money back in FULL total $128 amount. Absolutely received NO FRICTION or "shade" However, surprisingly OUTSTANDING BUSINESS ETHICS!
