He had a HAND-DELIVERED OPPORTUNITY to fib a little, and try to snake my business away from the dealership ... which he ignored entirely. Came here based on glowing reviews and walking distance from my apartment. I dropped the car off Monday morning and mentioned I had rolled my window down and believed the motor had died and the window would no longer go back up. I let the service desk know the window itself was taken out of the door panel and was sitting in the back seat of the car. After a full day not hearing back I called before close to ask if they have diagnosed the issue. "Your alternator and motor need to be replaced, we are ordering the parts and you can pick up tomorrow"... great! Next day comes and around 1 I call for an update. "We have the part now and will call you when it's ready"... an hour later the car is "ready" for pickup. I pay $543.91 (just under $200 for parts and around $300 for labor plus tax and whatever other fees). My car is a POS so seems a bit pricy but cars usually are so not a big deal. Car is pulled in front and I receive my keys. I go to use the switch to get my window up, makes a noise, but window is not coming up. Take a look in the back seat of my car to see the window still in the back seat just as I had brought it in (getting the window back in the panel is the entire reason I have come here). How are you going to know the regulator and motor work properly without a window inside? Lacks common sense to me. The technician noticed my frustration and came to assist. He was awesome and helped me out from here. Was told 3 times "sorry man, it's been hectic and there have been a lot of changes around here recently". Not the mechanics fault, it seemed like he wasn't given the best communication from the start but he eventually was able to get the window back in after some additional work. Pulling out of the shop, bits and pieces of my car were laying on the ground from trying to get the window back in. Disappointed in my experience here and would NOT recommend his place to friends and family. For paying over half a grand I expected better. read more

I went here in February to get my car worked on and one of the things done was replacing my engine coils. I am already paranoid about mechanics because I am a female who doesn't know anything about cars. A week after I got my car back, my car would not accelerate while I was driving on the freeway. It was a really scary experience but thankfully I was able to get off safely and get my car towed. Turns out the clip had broken that holds the engine coils in, and I was never told it was broken, they just shoved cardboard into the engine and gave the car back to me. They did fix the clip after this happened "for free" but I still paid the initial charges to have it worked on in the first place. This was really traumatic and I am terrified of mechanics more than I already was because I am still thinking about it months later. read more

It was a likely hybrid battery issue and they said they could diagnose it but if it was a hybrid issue I'd be better off going to dealership as that would be outside their scope. showed up for a scheduled serpentine belt replacement. brought a Lexus belt from the Lexus dealer, which insures they use the correct one which make it easier for them, which they refused to use or repurchase from me, citing "insurance". in addition, they impose a ridiculous and fake $35 "shop supplies" charge. this refusal is contrary to past practice here where they simply didn't "warranty" the part, which was ok with me. good example of unbridled greedy attitude of many businesses today. I would recommend extreme caution to anyone considering a repair with them. I will take my business elsewhere. zero stars. read more

So impressed! I found Whitey's on Yelp and went in for the first time today. My ancient car was in need of a new headlamp assembly. I went a few places and was quoted 2k for the part alone. I was so relieved to find out Whitey's gave customers the option to bring their own parts. Took some research on my part but I was able to find a used assembly on EBay for 1/10th of the cost. Whitey's installed it seamlessly, also made time to diagnose my check engine light, and got me out of there same day. Now that I've found Whitey's, I'll be a customer for life! Everyone was super friendly. Love that the guys doing the service call you directly to answer any questions and give a fair assessment. I figured it was time for an update. First off, Whitey's is still my first choice place for all my auto repair needs. Service here is top notch and they deserve so much more than 5 stars. Scott is fantastic and runs the shop well. Great person to chat with, even more fun watching the morning cat feeding routine. JP is efficient, effective and doesn't try to sell you on things you don't really need replaced or repaired. It's refreshing to work with an auto repair shop that knows treating customers like family rather than looking for a quick buck is really what keeps people coming back and recommending them to others. Arriving to Scottsdale for my kids debate tournament, I noticed something hanging under my wife's front-end of her mini-van. I stopped into Whitey's Auto Repair with my eight-year-old in tow for them to take a look at it. They were busy but squeezed me in to see what it was. It wasn't good is what it was. Sparing the details of a really bad situation, they made a temporary fix since the repair would take much longer than my stay in Arizona. I was given a detailed list of needed repairs right there under the car as they pointed to each issue. The technician also encouraged me to contact my auto insurance as it should be covered under a collision policy. Everything they did was very useful and appreciated. I had no anxiety due to the way they handled it. I was very happy with how they treated me and I was more than happy to pay for their time. They wouldn't let me! They told me they really did nothing and there was no need for payment. I come from Sacramento, California and I would have been charged at least a rack fee. I only wished that I could have had Whitey's Auto Repair handle this repair. They are trustworthy, friendly, and helpful. We brought our Lexus in here for its first oil change and had an incredible experience! We really went back and forth on whether or not we should take it in to the dealership for an oil change but after chatting with Whitey's, reading their incredible Yelp reviews, and learning of their love for Toyota cars, we felt comfortable bringing it here. I made an appointment and they began as soon as I arrived + had it done in under 45 minutes. Yes, please! Their waiting room also has WiFi! The service was so friendly and you can tell that they know what they're doing. There were customers in the waiting room who had been bringing their cars here for YEARS! That is always a good sign! It was such a refreshing start to my Friday morning. The best part, I always dread when they come back to you with "more things" that need to be taken care of but our car had a clean report! Yay!! I cannot say enough good things about this place. I have been here twice and both experiences were great. The first time I visited was about a year and a half ago because I was experiencing an extremely loud noise while driving and especially when starting my car. I was told that my exhaust manifold was cracked and that they could fix it but that it would be pretty pricy so they had taken it upon themselves to look up my warranty which they saw had just recently expired but they advised that they thought the dealership would honor it being that my car was otherwise in good condition. Most places would take advantage of that situation for a profit but they were very ethical and honest, which saved me over $1000. Not only did they provide this recommendation but they also comped my inspection fee because they did not end up doing any work on my car. My next visit was for an alignment. I am not sure if this is standard procedure but they provided a printout with a detailed summary of service as well as a printout of the before and after visuals of my alignment and gave detailed advice to keep these documents in the event I were to need tire repair at any point within my warranty (I had just gotten new tires with a 45,000 mile warranty) so that there would be no possibility of them not honoring my warranty due to a bad alignment. Additionally, they provided complimentary transportation from the shop to my home while my car was being worked on so that I would not have to find other arrangements. They also try to pair you with the same technician for all of your visits so that the person working on your car is familiar with it and any previous services rendered. I feel that they are very honest and just overall genuine people. I would definitely recommend this place, especially for females that do not know a lot about cars and worry about getting taken advantage of. read more

I've gone to Whitey's auto repair on several occasions. While the repairs in my case were necessary (coolant leaks) and the work was reliable, the cost was much more than competitors in the area (over 400 - 500 more). I trusted them however and decided to get the work done, but I would recommend calling around before committing to anything because you will be overpaying here. The only complaint I would have outside of that would be the receptionists. Customer service here could be much better (they generally feel dismissive and uninterested in the job or your concerns). If you have an appointment with them for a repair make sure everyone is aligned on the arrival time. They otherwise won't inform you of what it is and will bump you off the schedule if you arrive at a different time. I think that last piece ultimately comes back to the lack of customer service with nobody caring to mention it. Ultimately this is a very easy fix, so hopefully they make the change. Vocalizing the time at any point to the customer or even supplying appointment reminder cards would be useful. While I can tolerate rescheduling and can understand if they are booked for the day, their unprofessional and disrespectful tone and demeanor when I arrived late turned me off from the place completely. I opted not to spend my 1,600 there and actually ended up finding a spot that charged significantly less. The repair done was done well and I had a much better customer experience. read more

First my front end was misdiagnosed that cost me over 1200.00$ , then I was in there office 3 TIMES in 2 days and NO ONE made mention that they were CLOSED for 4 DAYS over Memorial Day weekend... I went to pick up my vehicle on Friday morning during there normal hours, OOPS sorry were closed till Tuesday.. He was very willing to fit me in at 7 AM in the morning because I live in the neighborhood and could be there at opening. They took it right in analyzed it and told me that because it was under extended warranty I would be better off to take it to the dealership as to not void it . I went into Whitey's today for an old beater I've been working on as a project car, a 1988 ford. This is my first truck I've worked on and I'm trying but there's a lot I don't know as I'm just a nurse. They let me know right off the bat that it's difficult for them to work on these older things due to rust and lack of part abundance but the guys were still willing to work on an alignment for me which is all I asked for. About an hour after drop off I got a call from Paul (pretty sure it was Paul) who is the mechanic. He let me know that there were a couple things I'd probably want to work on before paying for an alignment but he would still align it for me if that's what I wanted. He was extremely communicative and gave me a quote on fixing the steering box in the future and then had my truck ready in about 3 hours. I then drove my truck to emissions, and called Whiteys back and spoke with Sean (Shawn?) to ask about fixing those failed readings and they recommended bell auto service because they deal with these older trucks more readily BUT EVEN THEN he gave me a full detailed response on what the problem was over the phone in laymen's terms I could understand. And they were right, Bell auto knew right away the easy fix right over the phone. All in all: -way cheaper alignment than I was quoted elsewhere -they were kind -they tried to save me money -they listened to what I asked for even if it wasn't best long term -they recommended mechanics they felt were better suited for different tasks. -They allow you to bring your own parts, if I can find the parts they will still be willing to work on it! Will come again when I inevitably hit more walls with the truck! read more

After visiting another repair shop that was a corporate chain, I could tell they were trying to rip me off. So, I followed the advice of someone I know and took my vehicle to Whitey's Auto. I received great service and great advice for what needed to be done. One thing that the corporate chain (visited before) wanted me to do was a $1500 job to fix a "pretty bad" leak in the transmission yoke. At Whitey's, Tarrance said that he did not see any evidence of a leak of transmission fluid from the transmission. He also suggested that since I have an older model vehicle, I may not want to invest in some other repairs as they were not a pressing emergency. Since I had such a great, HONEST, experience with Whitey's on 6/5, I decided to bring my other vehicle in to them today. I went with an oil change and check to see why the oil was leaking. GREAT NEWS for me!! Whoever changed my oil the last time did not secure the oil filter on properly and so the filter was leaking oil all over the place. The result was a fast and cheap result to something that could have potentially been a big problem. There were some delays in the repair due to UPS shipping and a misdiagnosis, and I felt like my experience wasn't up to the standard I would expect based on the reviews. I don't know why I haven't written a review until now, but I LOVE Whitey's! Been going here for well over a year. My SUV had a rear window regulator that went out. After getting a quote from my old mechanic (chain) while i had it in for a LOF, and practically falling out of my seat, I said that i could live without rolling that window down for a while. A few months later, the glass slipped all the way down and unless i wanted to have the wind blowing through my sons hair in the backseat and potentially have critters/cats making a nighttime home out of my vehicle, I had to do something fast. I called Whitey's and Mike gave me a quote over the phone. The quote was $100 less for the same repair the chain wanted. I told Mike, "When can I bring it in!?" I had my SUV back in less than a day. While I'm pretty car savvy (having worked for a car dealership/parts dept and had to maintain my own work truck), auto repairs is an area that history shows women can and have be taken to the cleaners.
