Lower than one star. Total rip off. I brought my son's 2018 GMC Canyon to Tony's and told him the AC was not working. I had just had it checked out and the compressor was not working and needed an estimate. He charged me $285 to tell me the compressor was not working and gave me a $3667.27 estimate to fix the AC. I have been in the business for year and knew this was outrageous. I had it fixed at another shop for $2600. I asked him about the Tire Pressure warning light being on and he charge me $112 to tell me my sensors were bad and wanted to charge me $1060.47 to fix the sensors. I got the sensors fixed at Discount Tire for $150. He charged me $397.14 to provide me with an outrageous estimate to repair my son's truck. I already knew the compressor was bad and the tire sensor light told me there was a problem with the sensors but $1000 for sensors is highway robbery. Invoice # 45553 on 6/10/2026. read more

My son took his car in because of an oil leak. Dan said he needed to replace a seal and it would be $3800. Yes $3800 bucks, and he would need the car for a week. He said he didn't have the proper tools and would need to either buy them or borrow them. How does an auto shop not have the tools to replace a seal? Took the car to an honest mechanic and he repaired the leak by replacing the seal, changed the oil, and repaired a tire all for under $500 in less than 4 hours. read more

The owner has a huge stick up as you know what and he was really rude to me in person I asked him a simple question he went to $128 just to diagnose what was going on with my idle and he said that I had to leave my car there with him even though I told him twice I don't have a way to leave a car there near as well. I said so what now and he goes well you need to come bring it in and leave it and I go I can't leave it as my name so make it look right now nobody was even doing anything and he was just being lazy and he was definitely a smart ass I'll never go back overpriced and they have a stick up their butts!!!! I have been taking my cars to Dan and his team at Tony's Service Center for almost 35 years and I can't thank them enough for all of the amazing service they have provided over the years to not only myself but to other members of my family as well. Thinking back over the years I can probably count on one hand where they had my car more than a day or two for any large repair, typically i get my car back same day or within 24 hours. They have consistently for these many years been able to identify the problem and been able to get the parts for repair quickly, efficiently and done professionally. I am confident they have maintained the highest level of transparency as well as honesty with me which has always been important to me as a female consumer. There have been many times when they pulled up a video or pictures to help me better understand what the issue was and how they would fix it. I can honestly say without hesitation that I have never had to take my car back to Dan to complain it wasn't fixed the first time! I am positive that the team's thoroughness and foresight has saved me money over the years. I drive a 2005 Toyota 4Runner and have made sure to religiously keep up with routine maintenance. Very recently I had Dan's team change out the front end mechanics as well as the differential in my truck and I couldn't be happier! It is disappointing to write a review that is not glowing about Tony's because Danny seems like a good guy. We took an Escalade in and thought we were charged too much because of a good faith diagnostic error. This time, we took in a Cadillac and we were told it would cost $1700 to replace and install a fuel pump. Having replaced a fuel pump on a BMW recently, we knew this work should cost no more than $800. We called around the valley and were told the same. We confirmed with Tony's that it would be $1700 there. We won't be coming back and feel fortunate that we did not overpay there again. Completely lost trust in Tony's and are disillusioned. Why more than double the price? Pure greed and unethical for a place that bills itself as a neighborhood garage. Sickening and disappointing. read more

Why does an auto service center that's been around so long have so few reviews? Because they pay to have the negative ones removed. what you see are the only good reviews. i had my breaks changed and it put me out $700. I thought that was high for changing the breaks and smoothing the rotors. Apparently all the bolts weren't tightened up when they gave it back so i had to return back the next day so they could fix the wobbly wheel. Maybe that was a small oversight, but before going here you should definitely shop around. I was quoted $1400 for a timing belt change so i decided to forgo the service and shop around and received excellent service for hundreds less. So if it's not a critical need, shop around and know the market rate. read more

I believe this is my 101st review and I am glad to share it with you. Three years ago, I wrote what I considered a glowing report about Ton's Auto Service. I can continue saying good things. They still have good service and are friendly and helpful. I know they are not the cheapest place to go to but you get what you pay for. When I go in there, I expect to find out what I have to do to get the problem resolved. I don't have the patience to have to keep working with something to figure out eventually what the problem is. To expensiv in the long run and to time consuming. Been there, done that. I also know I am probably paying a little extra for the van that will take me where I need to go while the work is being done and come and get me when it's done. I can live with that, thank you. Depends on what kind of service you want. I have a neighbor who is tight as a turnip when it comes to money which he has plenty of! If he's been there going for years, I am of the opinion that in the long run staying with Tony's has been worth it for me. Let's face it, you take your chances if you don't get something fixed that might need it. They aren't the place that are going to push you to get the work done. I did notice David N's review. If I got a bid from somewhere else that was that much lower, I'd have no problem going back to Tony's and asking the why the difference? Depends on the individual as to how to handle those things. One thing I do appreciate is what they did for me the last time I was in there. I was driving the car and it seemed to chug as I took it through the gears-it's a manual.. Then it was fine as I took it up the 51. the next day it did the same thing and I just barely got it to Tony's. Probably should have had it towed and was thankful I didn't get stuck in the fast lane of the 51 the day before! Since money means nothing to me, LOL, I about passed out when they showed me what was wrong and how much it would cost to repair. The problem was definitely there. I didn't have the money to pay for it. It's not every place that I would ask the owner if he was willing to work with me to pay it off over the next four months. He didn't charge me extra. I really appreciate him working with me as I do need my vehicle for work and he made that possible. My car is getting 30 mpg + again. I'm happy. read more

My family has used Tony's before for their cheap and quick oil change. However, I recently took my car there for an oil change and tire rotation. Upon taking the vehicle to another mechanic for other repairs (Tony's is rather pricey), it was discovered that the tires were never rotated, despite charging me to do exactly that. I feel like the owner had a bet as to how much money they could steal from a customer that day. I was charged for services I didn't ask for, quoted on other products that were so outrageous I almost threw up. $400 to change 2 radiator hoses? seriously? I'm talking about 2 belts that can be purchased for less than $30. I was a long time customer that loved the service initially then found it to be more and more suspicious as time went buy. I drove by Tony's on my way to East Mesa to get my car repaired by a "guy who knew a guy" and noticed the sign that said "Japanese and German car specialist". It was Tony's. I continued on to my East Mesa location even though I live "around the neighborhood" of Tony's. It was a good repair but VERY INCONVENIENT. I had to arrange to have someone follow me, take me home to 7th and Northern and then bring me back to pick up the car. Two weeks later, my air conditioner died. That day it was 113. I have a 1996 Nissan Maxima with only 87000 miles on it (previously owned by my mother who can no longer drive). The car was not regularly maintained so I wasn't surprised. Well this time, I took it to Tony's. I was greeted by Danny, who is a great big guy with a good heart. As a woman who has been to a lot of mechanics I was skeptical, but Danny put me at ease by telling me that he would keep the car until he knew what was wrong and not to worry because they would give me a ride home and pick me up when it was ready! I was sold!! Not only did they fix the air conditioner without charging me for a new compressor (which is what I think I would have gotten from a dealer), but he called me twice to let me know what was going on with the car during the day. Made me think he knew I was wondering about it! I had the good fortune of riding back to the shop with Moses. Moses is an employee who really cares about cars. He is just learning right now and in school for service tech, but he told me he believes that Tony's is the best place he has ever worked. The employees respect each other, and are willing to teach him. He loves cars! I asked a lot of questions because I wanted to see how he really felt about the shop and it's owner Danny and the other employees. I've had good experiences here but I recently wanted a second opinion and quote on getting a new air compressor for the ac in my car. When I said another mechanic had told me it was the Compressor he was very rude and told me it was not that, it would be 130 to see what it was. He tried to say no shop does free checks, there are literally signs everywhere advertising that. He didn't want to give me a quote but when I said that's all I needed he reluctantly gave me a 2,200 quote. He made very rude comments about my stupid back yard mechanic (which was another licensed mechanic shop) and tried to bully me into the work. I went to get a third opinion and they said it was definitely the air compressor, the hooked it up to a reader (which didn't happen at Tony's), brought me out to show me and didn't charge me. I had a tight bolt on my truck and just needed a tech with a high-torque gun to loosen it. We live in the area and thought we might stop in at Tony's since it is a smaller shop. I told him my problem and asked if one of his guys could help and that we would tip generously. Before I could get that sentence out of my mouth, he glared at me and claimed that it would be a minimum of $100 IF he could fit me in, and that I'd have to leave my truck with him. At this time, there were no cars in the shop being worked on. I was very shocked, and basically just turned around and said, "Well, I guess that's out of the question then." Ultimately, I ended up losing $200 because he wasn't able to do that small favor for me, as I was trying to sell the wheelchair ramp that was attached to the back of my truck. The buyer, who was with me, basically gave up and went home because I was unable to get the ramp off the back of my truck. I would not recommend Tony's because he was unfriendly, money-hungry, and lacked goodwill. read more

I agree with David M. Tony's is fair and honest. Work is done right the first time. They will tell you what they found and what may happen if it's ignored. I was also told once that a noise I heard while may be annoying will not affect the performance in any way and the car had no safety issues. They're not open on Saturdays but, they do have a van to take you to work and pick you up. read more

Why is it so hard to find an honest service? Tony's is not the only culprit. Took my truck in for an oil leak. Told them it looks to be the rear main seal. They quoted about $600.00 for rear main seal and oil pan gasket. When repaired they said they only needed to do the oil pan gasket which was about $220.00. And a 2 year warranty. Great, right.... ah no. Took back in because it was still leaking oil. Now they say it is the transmission lines and it will be $600 to repair. I said no as I can tell the oil is not transmission fluid. Looked under the truck and cannot see any leak in the transmission lines. Be careful of the bate and switch. Do a repair for less so you think they're honest and the get screwed later. read more
