While driving on the freeway I heard/felt a loud thump underneath the car. While I don't know what was on the freeway, I wish they'd clean it more. Immediately I knew my car felt differently and started hearing and feeling something. I was panicked! Why? B/c I had to pick up my child and if the car wasn't drivable how was I to pick my child up while they still need a car seat. (A mother's mind races to solve potential problems like no other). Anyway, I called my husband to help find me the nearest car shop b/c something was wrong. He had previously been at this shop and it was the best place for me to go. I did. I am not sure if they could tell how freaked out I was but I tried not to seem like it. They were able to identify it was nothing dangerous and it was easily fixable. THANK GOODNESS! How long will that take ? No idea. Had I known that charge was their baseline I wouldn't have even bothered wasting my time or theirs. There is ABSOLUTELY a shop that can do what they do for WAY below the price. Tried to charge me over 5k to have my fuel injectors and spark plugs replaced in my 2019 5.0 Mustang. The staff were nice though and extremely friendly. Everyone was great from front desk to techs. After doing only some of the services like the automatic transmission fluid exchange, brake fluid exchange and cooling system service (it was needed, probably still highly priced) took it to my performance shop and had my injectors, spark plugs, and new high performance mini starter installed for $800 rather than $5,000! (yes I got the OEM 47lb ford replacement injectors and spark plugs). I will say however, the work I approved was done well and helped out... My performance shop also noted the fuel injectors were the wrong size for my engine and were going to cause even more issues which this shop did not tell me at all. On top of that they also stated my direct fuel injectors were most likely the issue rather than just the regular fuel injectors and needed to be flow tested and cleaned out. I recently took my car to Virginia Auto Service because my check engine light was on. They told me the O2 sensor and head gasket needed to be replaced, which I proceeded and I paid about $2,700 to have the repairs done. Not long after I got my car back, it started overheating. I took it back, and they told me they tested and drove it but couldn't get it to overheat to see what was causing it. So they said they couldn't find anything wrong. When I picked up my car, I noticed my back window had been left rolled down. When I tried to roll it back up, it wouldn't work. I went back into the shop and spoke with Keenan. He came out, looked at it, and confirmed it was broken. When I asked if they would fix it since it wasn't broken before I brought my car in, he told me I would have to pay for it. He also said it would cost around $400 to repair it. When I said why would I pay for something that they broke? he then sighed, grunted, and was very unprofessional during the conversation and said I'll grab the manager for you. Keenan then got the manager, Robert. Instead of trying to help, Robert compared the situation to me coming into his shop, turning on the lights, and the lights breaking, asking if that meant I should have to pay his electric bill. I didn't think that comparison made any sense. My window worked before I brought my car in, and it was broken when I got it back. I simply expected the shop to take responsibility for something that happened while my car was in their care. I understand that accidents can happen, but how a business handles them matters. After spending $2,700 on repairs, I was disappointed that I left with a broken window and was expected to pay another $400 to fix something that wasn't broken when I dropped my car off. The lack of accountability and poor customer service were very disappointing. Unfortunately, I can't recommend Virginia Auto Service based on my experience. I would honestly give this place 0 stars. Virginia is a great and has very experienced mechanics who have seen it all and go out of their way to fix an issue. In my case it was my 2014 Ford Edge with bad alternator. Other issues were happening, could be alternator related or something else. Michelle and everyone really worked with me and I love their note taking process when you bring it in, and after the work is done. Very detailed. I have two years of notes that are easy to go back and review. It's really hard to find auto mechanics that care as much as Virginia and have such top notch customer service. They also will call a Lyft for you if needed. Which is good cause Virginia is a busy shop, so l just know you likely need to make an appointment. But they also took really good care of me the two times my Ford was broken down in the middle of the street. And I should add they fixed up my daughters car with a major issue after it did not get fixed at a cheaper, lower quality shop close to our house. Won't make that mistake again. I really like the people here because they are kind. Now on to the bad: I spent $2222.84 to repair my vehicle that overheated about a month ago. It took them 3 weeks to "fix" it, and now I'm back again today for the exact same problem. I had no choice of where to bring my vehicle because I just got it to th closest place possible. Now I sit in my other vehicle crying, because I spent every dime I had to repair my vehicle right the first time and it wasn't. I'm a nursing student and need reliable transportation to get around. One afternoon my check auto light came on. I went to an auto parts store so that they could hook my car up to their computer. I was told the problem was most likely a faulty gas cap so I purchased a new one. After the check engine light didn't turn off after a few days, I called Virginia Auto. Because the light probably only needed to be reset, I didn't have to make an appointment. I drove to Virginia Auto on my lunch break and a gentleman kindly reset my check engine light and attached the new gap cap with a tether pin. I was done in less than 15 minutes and at no charge. I first heard of them through a coupon in the mail, though I'm not sure how they got my address! :) Being new to the area and because the Audi dealership is way up in north Scottsdale, I decided to give them a try. Not to mention because I value the more personalized service of a small business, but that's a longer discussion... I've been thoroughly impressed with VAS's personal service, their ability to squeeze you in on relatively short notice, the ease in making an appointment, and their communication on what the deal is with your car. They also have a free ride service to drop you off and pick you up, which is highly convenient! If you have a European car, I highly recommend giving these guys a try! If I could give zero stars I would. I left my car there all day and all they did was use ALL my gas. They charged me $140 for a "diagnosis." They told me what I needed from the "diagnosis" and it was to get A fuel induction and Fuel injector services which would cost me around $900. I'm sorry but I'm not a moron and you could have told me I needed those before the $140 and before using all my gas. I found another shop which I used for years before I moved to central phoenix that will do the needed work for less than $300. The shop I used in Scottsdale also does an inspection for free because they care about their customers. This place is a joke and such a scam! Do not go there! ******* UPDATE ******* The owner called me and tried to "fix" how things had gone down. The worst part is the second I said I wouldn't change the review his mood and demeanor changed completely. He was rude and said he was glad to never have me in his shop again and hung up. If he treated me with respect through the entire phone call, I would not adding this little update. Here is the thing.... when a mechanic tries to skate a cabin air filter change by you for $69.95? It becomes impossible to trust them for anything else. The video on YouTube to change the filter is 1:40 long. The part is $13.00 on Amazon. When I asked about this, and explained that overcharging like this made it impossible to trust their other recommendations, Robert, the service writer, just shrugged. Asked to speak to the owner, who said, "I'm not running a charity." You also are not running an honest business if you charge $45 in labor for a two minutes job. It makes it impossible to trust the recommendations for tire balance and wheel rotation for another $69.95, and a $59.95 engine air filter. Oh, and Fox News blaring in the lobby. Nope. Delighted to take our business elsewhere. Too bad, because they came highly recommended in the Coronado neighborhood. Oh. And the car is a 2016 Honda Accord with 8,000 miles on it, getting second oil change. ****UPDATE**** Owner called to whine about the review. Twice. Get a life, dude. We have a Ford truck and had numerous (6 plus) auto entities work on a problem with the truck not starting. We had so much replaced that it was on the ridiculous side. Still, nothing changed the fact that the truck did not start. Reading numerous articles on this F250 on the internet showed us that this indeed was a problem that was difficult if not impossible to solve. I won't even go into the amount of money spent. Enter Virginia Automotive and Matt and Tim. They listen and they think. This is an amazing statement nowadays when all anyone want to do is argue and support the illusion of having fixed a problem that still exists. Kudos,Kudos,kudos. In response to the business owner's response, I'm not really buying it. Being honest about the diagnosis of a car is only half the battle. Being honest about pricing is just as important. And these guys totally failed. Implying that technicians who charge less than them are somehow lower quality is just bullshit, plain and simple. They wanted to charge us more than $600 to put on new brake rotors and pads. Retail for those parts? About $150. Hours it takes to swap them out? One, or two, at the most. Naturally, when I called them and sounded like I actually knew what I was talking about, they knocked $150 off the price they offered my wife. Still not good enough. It was $300 cheaper to tow our car all the way to our trusted Mesa mechanic and have him do the work. Oh, and the inspection we used a Groupon for? They charged us for services that i later found out were supposed to be part of the Groupon. Going to call them today to try and get a refund for that $30 (?!) tire rotation. Hate to rag on a local business, but the only way this could've gone worse would've been if they straight up lied about problems with the car. read more

When my car started making scary, loud, noises, I panicked and took it to the nearest reputable mechanic (Virginia Auto). I had heard they were a bit more expensive than other places, but my brother had just had a really great customer service experience there, so I decided to chance it. After explaining to the very nice mechanic working the front desk that I really did not have any money to spare, I left my car in their hands and crossed my fingers. A few hours later, I had a written estimate in hand: $1,600+. I was hugely disappointed (who happens to have a spare $1,600 lying around?) so I forwarded the quote to some knowledgeable friends who told me that I should definitely get a second opinion. Once all was said and done, I managed to work out a solution to my auto troubles for $700 from a different mechanic. Yes, Virginia Auto does good work. Yes, they offer GREAT customer service. I got a groupon to visit this place for my oil change so I was like why not. , it is close by and 2 oil changes with road side services for $37, good deal, huh? Well, but on the groupon or when I made the appointment (even at the time I mentioned that I have a specific brand and model of car.) It was nowhere mentioned that my car need special treatment and "needed" synthetic oil. I get it that they would want you to use more expensive product and charge few more bucks and I don't mind it, as long as it is mentioned beforehand not when you get there. Overall the place seems ok, and the people seems nice there and giving me ride to where I need to be. However, IMHO, consumer should have the right to know the term and conditions so that there is no confusion and even before they ask. read more

I am the owner of a Jaguar and a Range Rover so it goes without saying that next to my wife and kids, my mechanic is the next most important person in my life. After moving to Phoenix I followed the rule book and took my cars to the local Jaguar / Land Rover dealers for repair and service. A friend of mine recommended Virgina Auto Service to me a few years ago when he was visiting me in hospital as i was recovering from the shock of a $4000+ repair on my Range Rover. (just joking but it wasn't far off) The next time I needed a service thats exactly where I headed - and I have been heading there ever since. The owner Matt Allen is a champion. Aside from being a terrific guy, he as honest as the day is long and I know if he tells me I need to get some work done, it needs to be done. Likewise he is always looking to keep the repairs and service in check and takes as much pride in saving me money as he does in the work his shop performs. I am not a happy customer - I'm a fan. These guys do business the way it should be done, they treat their customers the way you hope people would treat you and most of all I always feel I get value and peace of mind for my money.
