Amazing little gem! The entire space sits on a beautiful, green, grassy area that is a total breath of fresh air.Ugh, the food is delicious! It honestly tastes like they love their customers, and you see so many happy faces coming out of here. Their ice cream selection is nothing short of delightful. The dairy-free ice cream is heavenly--I am finally able to enjoy dessert right along with my family! The cheeseburgers are incredibly tasty, and I love that they offer gluten-free buns and so much more.My family and I actually drive all the way down from the Bronx and stay overnight at my daughter's house just to visit. Don't judge me, lol! The ride down is spectacular, the service is excellent, and they offer free parking. Please enjoy these pictures! Just don't eat all the dairy-free flavors before I get back. Great old fashion ice cream stand with plenty of parking and seating outside. They are cash only, for those that use card mostly. The candy mixin cup were basically blizzards from DQ, but way more options in terms of candy. Was pretty great and got lot for the price. Overall a great place to stop on 17k if in the area. read more

If this place had any other competition it would of closed their doors 60 years ago like the sign advertised. I don't know how such a mediocre place could be in business for so long. Humdrum servers that slam the windows before you're done ordering. Rickety splintered picnic tables and a few plastic chairs sprinkled around for a place to sit, off a very busy road so watch your children don't step out into the roadway. We ordered three medium cones: two twist and one coconut pineapple of their homemade hard ice cream. The hard scoops were a decent portion and had a nice coconutty flavor, the soft serve was equivalent to a small/baby cone not worth almost $5 each. I went here with $20 thinking it would be plenty, I was nervous as I ordered thinking I wouldn't have enough. Total came to $14.96 for three teeny cones. The cones themselves were the joy cones you can buy in the dollar store and I think more flavor would be in actual styrofoam! The soft serve was okay I don't think the best quality I've ever had...definitely nothing to rave about. They get it from Gillettes creamery, same place most local stands do. I wouldn't return. I'd be much more satisfied by 4 pints of the very best ice cream from any local grocery store that would last me and the family a month. read more

As far as Ambiance is concern there is No Ambiance this is a hole in the wall kind of joint that's close by and why I went for a quick food fix. Service... I've been 3 times, the first time they were friendly , the second time they were inattentive and spoke to their friends at the window for well over 15 minutes, when I saw a bag at the pick up window I went up to ask if that was my order, they said no turns out it was the order of her friend that she had been chatting it up with and she had not even started my order only threw my burger on the grill and fries into the fryer after I had asked it the bag on the counter was mine. My third time and will now be my last time ever going is because they were just plain rude in fact the guy making my order made faces and sarcastic remark's because I was watching him make my why this made him ballistic I'm not sure but I've been to plenty of restaurants who have windows into their kitchens who welcome customers to watch and there is an open window to watch there he has the the daughter of Richard come and stand her butt in front of the window so I could not see what he was doing. Then she proceeded to finish then I could see her put my hotdog in the microwave with the bun and not put the onions on that I requested which takes me to the food. Food: Cheeseburger: so The cheese burger is decent and the most tasty thing they have that I've tried this far but again I won't be back because of the rudeness but I did order it on my first and second visit. On the second visit I asked them to put Mayo on both sides of the bread because the first time they just give it to you dry, it was still good but of course who wants a dry burger so the second time I asked for Mayo on both sides however they Did Not do that they still kept one side dry and put Mayo only on one side of the bread. Not cool. Fries: I got the waffle fries, they are greasy and unseasoned, never ordered again. BLT: Again I asked for Mayo on both sides for some reason only half of the bread whats with these people I was watching and maybe that's why he was mad I was watching. There is a decent amount of bacon, however no seasoning and the bread was toasted burnt. Not very flavorful. Chili Cheese Dog, I asked for extra cheese and extra onions: Yikes because I was watching some of the preparation of this she put the hotdog in the bun slices some white cheese and then put it in the microwave!!!! Which made the bread very doughy and completely compromised the taste! Plus she totally did not put Any onions on it and when she threw it on the counter I told her than she put just a dash of onions. Wow! Please understand if you actually read this that if your chili is hot, all you have to do is sprinkle cheese on it and it will melt and that way you don't have to compromise it by putting it in the microwave. Ice cream : The lemon ice cream was delicious very creamy, and I highly recommend it . The banana ice cream did not taste like banana at all. It's like they probably were being as cheap with the bananas as they are with the mayo and onions when it comes to making the banana ice cream so I would not recommend it. Maybe they are more kind to their white customers but as a person of color I felt extremely disrespected and I will not be supporting this business again out of respect for my self. read more

I have gone to Richard's for like 20+ years. I don't understand some of the mediocre reviews here, unless they're discounting for the service which can be a little off some days (like everywhere). Their food and ice cream is legit though. I don't count it as summer until I drive from wherever I'm living at the time and get an E.T. Sundae, which is probably their most underrated concoction. Yes, you're not getting crazy flavors like taro or Vietnamese tea. You're getting regular ice cream. It's still freaking delicious, guys. Plus, they seem to love Game of Thrones (despite this last season being soooooo bad), and that makes them cool in my book. I always recommend it to people in the area, though mostly everyone has seen them. If you're looking on Yelp for Ice cream and you haven't heard of them yet, you're missing out in my opinion. I always love going it gives me a good feeling. Don't go. Don't bother. Here's why... So, in case you don't know this ice cream spot is in the middle of humble bumble upstate. The kind of place where a slice of pizza costs $1.50 and can feed your whole family. It's the Mecca of .45 ice cream from Stewarts. I went here because Richard's was supposed to be homemade ice cream and I thought how cool. I ordered a super burger. I asked what made it super. They said, lettuce, tomato and mayo. Wha?! That's not super, that's called human decency. I had them add bacon. Dur... My version of their burger ended up great. Next, I ordered an Oreo cookie blizzard with peanut butter cups. I had this vision of white, agains junks of dark with little half buckets of peanut butter and chocolate. This was not that, it was chocolatey sludge with no discernable flecks of PB cup. Bah! I also ordered onion rings and chicken fingers. Here is where we go off the rails. The chicken fingers were 5 pieces for $675. I mean I don't know know great math but $1.12 per finger! An abomination! This is America. Oh and the fingers did not come with fries. Even bowling alleys and bingo halls know you can't just send out fingers with no fries. This is just despicable. The rings were ok. They screwed up my order and forgot them. They also forgot my seltzer. The fingers were overbreaded meh. They accidentally gave me fries. Oh and to top it off they don't have a restroom. So, if you have to pee, you can try McDonald's which is 1.2 miles away, or go in the bushes like you did as a kid. Next time I will just get some nuggets and a cone from McD's rather than pay $26 for mediocre food, mediocre service for too much money. read more

Richards didnt really do it for me. This review has nothing to do with the service bc it was fine, its more about the flavor and quality of their ice cream. Its great that they have dairy free options but please dont advertise "coconut milk soft serve" when its actually just another sorbet. I ordered it thinking it would be a creamier more ice cream like texture, but it wasnt. The sundae was "alright" as per my fiancé, and of course my dog gobbled up the small vanilla in a cup. All in all i'm not sure we're inspired to return. read more

Decent but not special ice cream. The servers aren't so friendly. They open and shut that window as if they're behind bullet proof glass and they're expecting a hold-up. The serving sizes are reasonable for for the price. The reality is, they have very little competition. They wouldn't fare so well in a busier area. Also, this is a complete outdoor location. Absolutely the best ice cream ever anywhere! The ice cream is soft, but this is not "soft serve" as one would expect. This is the richest and densest soft ice cream you've ever consumed. A spoon will not easily scoop up this confection. We chose to have our "small" serving dipped in chocolate and began to devour. We tried the pistachio, butter pecan and birthday cake flavors. All were wonderful. Being on vacation allows you to bend the rules a bit, so we stopped by before dinner on two separate occasions. Way overrated, has a huge following from the local village dwellers for some strange reason. For the volume this place still pulls you think they would provide some better seating opportunities, they certainly have the room in the side lot for it. Sit up front and listen to the traffic speed by while everyone in line stares at you. Prices...wow, this is the biggest let down, everything is over priced in Montgomery and Richards ice cream is no different, extremely expensive. Drive over to Walden and pay half the price, better yet drive over to Maybrook to the "Trackside" or whatever the place is called, its dumpy looking, but the ice cream is great and the prices are half of Richards. read more

I normally stick to a hot fudge sundae or ET sundae but this year I branched out and am very happy I did! I had plenty of hot fudge sundaes and ET sundaes but I also had some brownie sundaes, waffle sundaes, apple crisp sundaes, banana ice cream, pumpkin ice cream, and plenty other varieties. Just went and got a medium E.T. Sunday. Looks like a Jr or small size. I did confirm I got a medium. I asked if there were Reese's pieces BC I couldn't see any and she said yes. Even though we live out of state, my boyfriend and I travel out of our way to visit Richard's when visiting Montgomery. It's evident the owner's care about their craft.
