There's no doubt that this restaurant has one of the most beautiful views in Rio Grande, PR. We'd not been there for years and decided to go for a drink (as we had dinner elsewhere). Mojitos were okay, and we've had better. The young man who took care of us asked if we would like something to eat... so we ordered the tostones rellenos de pulpo. Octopus portion was minimal and tostones were not fresh. We hope things improve for the next time we visit! My husband and I have fond memories of our very first date here. This was our second visit here, but likely our last. We were so excited to come back... until we realized this wasn't the restaurant we thought it was. The one we meant to return to is a few hundred feet farther up the road. I should've known the moment I saw the parking lot across the street. We got a great seat with a view but that was the highlight. It took 15 minutes just to get menus - which was actually just a QR code, so be sure your phone is charged. I tried to convince my husband to leave while we were waiting, but he was committed. After waiting another ten minutes for our order to be taken and fifteen more minutes for our drinks to arrive. Two hours and $130 later, he regrets that commitment. I ordered the pineapple rice with shrimp, which was genuinely delicious -- the shining star of the evening. My husband ordered a porterhouse that looked suspiciously like a T‑bone and chewed like shoe leather. I gently reminded him he has never had a good steak on this island, but hope is a powerful (and apparently pricey) force. I ordered a mojito to relax, but it must've been the "suggestion of alcohol" version because I'm not convinced any actually made it into the glass. Tasty, yes. Calming, no. View was terrific. Everything else about this place we was a disappointment. We arrived at 5;30 to be told that they had just seated a party of 20 but would try to get out food out first. Apparently there was one server for the whole restaurant. The second indication this was going wrong was that they were out of half of the food on the menu An hour later we still didn't have our first round of mixed drinks. Which were good but not great. A half hour later our appetizers started coming out one at a time and 2 hours after after ordering we finally got dinner. Ironically just before getting our food the power went out but they had no generator or candles. So when we did finally get served it was mostly cooked and we literally ate in the dark by the light of our phones. The entire experience took 2.5 hours and we had to push for the bill because they didn't have a way to calculate our check. And the pay ahead of us was getting drunk at the bar. I was recommended by the locals about this place. I made reservations and server had our table ready upon arrival. We started off with mini beef empanadas and then New York steak, very good. Richie's has a beautiful view, go for drinks and enjoy! We went with a large group with a reservation made weeks ago so plenty of advance notice to have proper staffing but that was not the case. We had a 6:30pm reservation which we were slightly early for and we were promptly seated. The pitchers of mojitos and sangria came out quick and were flowing but our appetizers were not, we ordered 3 appetizers for our group, the first took about 45 minutes the others we got about 1:15 hr into our seating, it ultimately took 3 hours to receive our entrees and while the fried snapper was good others said their chuleta kan kan and arroz con gandules was overly salty. I might pass by on a moonlit night for a beverage on the balcony but nothing else. read more

Best food of the trip! I tried the mofongo with the garlic cream sauce and it was absolutely incredible. So amazing that we returned the next day to get it again. The mofongo is super filling and rich with the garlic cream sauce but I could not get enough! I also tried the pina coladas which were delish and a strawberry mojito! Their drinks are reasonably priced and they are so good! The salad I got was just ok- pretty basic and the dressing was a bottle of Kraft I'd pass on that next time. Beautiful views as well! You can see the ocean from your table or, the rooftop. One note- make sure you ask for tap water or they will charge you for bottled water. Made a reservation from 5:30p for 13 people- when we arrived they had not set up the table. The place has definitely gone down hill! We did not get our food till 8:45p they waited on everyone else in the restaurant before us. One server- who kept apologizing- that was bringing our food out-one plate at a time. For our first dinner on the island, we went with a restaurant recommended by our Vrbo host: Richie's Restaurant. Driving there was pretty straightforward, and we appreciated the spacious parking lot located across the street. Despite the heavy and overcast skies, we asked the host to seat us on the back deck in order to enjoy the million dollar views. Our server spoke very good English, and he had no issues taking either our drink or food orders. Excited to finally try mofongo, four of our seven family members ordered a variety of flavours (octopus, conch, shrimp), while the remaining three selected steaks and seafood dinners. Normally in my restaurant reviews, I dedicate an entire section to the ambiance, however in the case of Richie's, I honestly have no clue what was on the walls, or if they even had walls! When you are 1000ft up a mountain and less than a mile from the Caribbean, it is hard to tear your eyes away from the spectacular view! We were surprised at how quickly our food was ready, especially considering how busy the restaurant was. The presentation on all seven of our meals was fantastic, and we all found our dinners to be good to excellent in taste. The kids and I swapped mofongo bites, and we universally agreed that while the shrimp mofongo and octopus mofongo were excellent, the conch mofongo was a distant third place and definitely not worth the $10 premium. Dinner for seven with no alcohol, but including taxes and the automatically assessed 15% gratuity, totaled $257.74, which was definitely on the pricy end of things. Upon walking in for dinner, they had sliding doors open, which led to mosquitos coming in and biting me a lot. Our waiter saw me smacking so much, he brought me bug spray. Also, one of the fire alarms must have been dying because there was a steady beeping sound the entire time. The bathroom was dirty, and with the heat, it was muggy. Why, no fans? I felt service was a tad slow food wise there was a party of 20 people there before us who were still waiting for their food before we got ours They have a good selection but some of the items weren't available but the food we ordered was just OK, I have eaten plenty of food and Puerto Rico and this was by far the blandest . First off, I'd like to start by saying that I don't normally leave negative reviews. I've been coming to Richie's for about 8 years and it's always been great. The view is amazing. I dined with my family of 4 on 3/17/25. The service was good. Not great but good. Drinks and food all took a little bit to come out, longer than it should. The gumbo was too hot to eat even after sitting at the table for about 20 mins. Eventually my daughter transferred some into a small dish that they served beans (for rice and beans) in and was able to eat it in small serving sizes. I had the carne frita mofungo. Some of the pieces of pork were hard to cut, even with a steak knife. Between the 4 of us, we had 6 drinks, 3 pina coladas w/rum, 2 strawberry daiquiris and a beer. We also had 2 appetizers, grouper nuggets and fried cheese. That along with our 4 entrees, skirt steak, shrimp gumbo, chicken gumbo and the pork mofungo and a side of beans and rice came out to $280. I was quite dumbfounded when I seen the bill. Reviewing it, I noticed an AUTOMATIC GRATUITY was charged for 20% ($42) which is unusual but 20% is fair and even so, still a high price for our dinner. THEN I noticed the pina coladas were $18 each! I can only assume it's the "gringo tax" that you get at some places but I've never had it here. The strawberry daiquiris were each $12 which is about where I expected it to be, and the beer was $6 (listed in the menu). Not sure if I'll be returning. It seems to have gone downhill. I would recommend asking for a drink menu or ask about the price of a cocktail if you decide to order one so you aren't shocked when getting the bill. Oh, also, the bill came out to $280 as I stated before but my credit card was ran for $290. I mentioned to the server and he looks it over and comes back with $10 cash for me. Ordered lobster soup ($35), grouper nuggets, lobster salad ($35) and salmon filet ($32) with (Puerto Rican rice) yellow rice with beans. The grouper nuggets aren't too bad, but I am not greatly fond of the sauce pairing, it's like bland and runny ranch. The breading wasn't crispy, lightly coated. Their hot sauce with habanero, red chilies and seasoning isn't bad, adds good heat to any foods. The lobster salad is okay, the meat is yummy, big chunks. There is no dressing on it at all, it's dry. I ended up using the chili sauce and lemon juice to get it down. The lobster soup is okay. Lots of filler rice again. The broth is so-so. The tostones with the lobster soup came with this sauce that would have been well paired with the grouper nuggets. Too bad we didn't know until after the apps. Added the chili sauce to give it more flavor and heat. The salmon is meh, didn't seem so fresh, the beans and rice were bland, but we added chili sauce to that as well. The salmon wasn't worth $32. Had about the same amount of lobster meat in my lobster soup as I did in my lobster salad. Total bill is $126. All of the lobster items were market price. Come for the view. read more

We just happened to stumble upon this place after going to El Yunque. Location is beautiful with open air seating. Previous reviews mentioned mosquitos, we did not have this issue. Service was quick and attentive. Various options for food. We had the grouper nuggets and turnovers. My husband and I walked from our resort to have dinner here on a Wednesday night. When we arrived we were told to sit at any of the 4-tops on the left side of the restaurant and it was approximately 1/2 full on a rainy night with the patio not open. The very first thing we noticed was that nobody had food. Nothing. No appetizers, no entrees and every drink was empty. We sat for about 10 minutes with nobody checking in. Soon after the 10 minute mark a table of 6 was seated next to us. A waiter immediately told them he would be "right over to help them" 10 minutes later(20 for us) that waiter started taking their order. I quickly excused myself to tell him we'd been waiting much longer to which he sternly said "yea, I know... I'll be over there after" This place is an absolute disaster.
