I really wanted to like this place, but my experience was disappointing. I ordered the chicken apple sausage and the potato pancake -- both came out burned. The flavors might've been good otherwise, but it was hard to enjoy anything that overcooked. Service was fine, but the food missed the mark this time.

I've been here a few times and I love it every time! The food always comes out super quick, the service is great, and the food is always delicious. Today was a Saturday morning, so it was pretty busy, and we had to wait for a table for about 10 minutes, which wasn't too bad. I ordered the eggs royale and it was hands down my favorite dish so far! If you're looking for great value, I highly recommend the Emily's egg plate--it's a solid choice for the price. Overall, a fantastic breakfast spot that never disappoints!

If I could zero stars for the experience I really would. This was the most disappointing meal for the price being a special? I hadn't even started to eat. Our other items were fine and typical standard of quality from Rick & Ann's. When asked a server walking by if this was this typical for a special, the response was "i can't do anything about it as this was what came out of the kitchen." Really? Not acceptable.

Though I'm not a huge fan of brunch/breakfast if it's something you can make at home, Rick & Ann's does it right! They have a great selection of breakfast and lunch items that make it worth the visit and waiting. Ordering works such that you put your name down to get seated and before they show you your table, you place your order next to the host stand & pay. It seems more on the efficient side but I can see how some folks don't like the linear process. It has a very cozy and homey feeling with both indoor and outdoor (covered seating). I ordered the steak sandwich which was great in portion and quality of meat. Their red velvet pancakes were amazing and had the perfect amount of buttercream frosting & nuts. Ann's Catering is also a business run out of there that is always a favorite at UC Berkeley. Small finger foods with immaculate presentation and quality ingredients. Will hopefully be back soon!

Caveat - I'm from the east coast and we don't tofu. But when in Rome...so I said what the hell and ordered the curried tofu scramble. I figured if it was horrible at least I tried. Well smack my Sam I am! Turns out I like curried tofu scramble. Not gonna lie, the huge heap of crispy breakfast potatoes helped. The fresh scone wasn't a miss either.

This was the worst brunch I've ever had. The crab cakes were made with imitation crab and deep-fried--completely unappetizing. Honestly, you can find much better food elsewhere in the area.

A nice little gem in the Claremont area of Berkeley. We had the usual brunch special, chorizo scramble and shared this yummy and refreshing salad. Service was great and fast paced. The ambiance is quite nice especially on a sunny day because they have an outdoor seating, which is good for people with dogs and also good to people watch. Highly recommend this place for brunch.

Delicious pancakes! Stopped here for brunch and I ordered the cheesy potato pancakes. I was expecting traditional potato pancakes like latkas, but these honestly looked like just hash browns with cheese on top. Not the same thing as potato pancakes! Their original pancake stack was much better, I love the unique grainy texture that is a perfect lovechild of cornbread and pancake parents. Very delicious! Their eggs were also superb! So creamy, moist and delicate, I will definitely be back to order the eggs and pancake combo. This place is definitely a must try for brunch!

We loved our brunch here. We've been coming here for a very long time, maybe over 20 years. This is one of our favorite spots for brunch. It gets very crowded, and since they don't allow reservations, there's a lot of waiting time when we get there when everybody's famished. We have a routine, where we put our name in the wait list then we go for coffee nextdoor at Peet's. If we're really hungry, we sometimes go to Fournee Bakery a few doors down as well. Just to minimize the wait time, we are open to any seating, even their communal table. That's where we sat last month. You really can't go wrong with any of their dishes. We have had every item on their menu over the years. Whatever you choose, I highly recommend getting the blueberry scone if that's offered. Their scones are so delicious! Enjoy!

Biased by nostalgia, but awesome every time I've been. Cornmeal pancakes are my favorite! There may be a line on weekend mornings.

We had been to Tarocco for lunch and figured we would ask them for a quote, too. My daughter warned me that the owner is trying to be an "influencer" on Instagram and posts photos of herself in crop Tops so I should beware, but that's fine by me. We called to get a quote and had a discussion. After we gave the owner all of our information, she told us she wouldn't give us a quote unless we came in person (?!) Which is weird because this isn't how restaurants work. Typically for events restaurants will give you a quote via phone or email for the sake of convenience. We had gotten 3 quotes already from other restaurants via phone. Making us drive 45 mins just to get a quote is a total waste of time. Especially if we can't afford it. So my daughter called again, left a VM explaining we couldn't come in person due to time constraints, and again asked for a quote. No reply. We waited a few days and called again. No reply. Finally we got a voicemail from the owner saying that she didn't like my daughter's attitude ?!!! Apparently you're not allowed to ask this restaurant how much they charge for events unless you're face to face. This lady has absolutely no idea how to run a restaurant. We took our business elsewhere and recommend that you do, too.

I ordered the Sai Oua lava egg plate, pork jowl on the side, and khanom krok. First of all, holy hell, that egg was SO soft and yummy. I loved how it was prepared--the texture was amazing, and it was seasoned to perfection with such a savory flavor. The sausage was good, but the pork jowl was where the meal really shined. Next time, I'd definitely get the grilled pork jowl lava egg plate instead. I can be pretty picky with pork, but this one melted in my mouth and had so much flavor. The khanom krok was beautiful and a great dish to order if you have friends to share it with. For me, one bite was more than enough as a sweet little dessert at the end of the meal. Their jasmine Thai tea was also really tasty. :) I'm so glad I finally got to try this spot and would definitely say it deserves all the hype!

It's also one of those places that makes you want to stay. The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and generous. The waffle batter tastes homemade and the butter takes it to another level... it's one of those dishes you keep thinking about after. I'll even DoorDash it all the way to Jingletown. The patio setup is really well done... there's a mix of larger tables for groups and higher bar-style seating for smaller hangs. The food always looked really good, but for whatever reason I always ended up ordering from somewhere else. Well, I finally did it. I finally ordered from Cali Alley, and all I have to say is, why did I wait so darn long? Door Dash was having a 2-for-1 deal on the Cali Alley Burger, so I ordered one of those (and got another for free) , as well as on the small mac and cheese, so I ended up with two of those as well. I got fries as he side for the burgers and saved the second burger and mac and cheese for the next day. I also bought a small side of veggie fried rice for lunch later in the week. OK, let's start with the fries ... wow. Super crispy. Don't know what they do to them, but I think I almost ate all the fries that came with one of the burgers before I even touched the burger. The fries seemed to have a coating like some fries do to make them extra crispy on the outside. Whatever it was, it made them so good, I couldn't stop eating them. I was almost too full for the burger. But who are we kidding? If there is one thing I am good at, it is eating more than I should. The burger, which is described on Door Dash as "char grilled, fresh ground brisket and short rib burger, served on a toasted brioche fun with crisp lettuce, tomato onion marmalade and garlic aioli" was thick and incredibly flavorful. I couldn't stop eating that, either. It was that good. I ordered it medium, and it was pretty pink, but it was sooooooo flavorful, and all the toppings worked well together. I didn't get any cheese on it because I wanted to try to burger by itself and not mask it with cheese. I might try adding cheese next time, but honestly the burger is so good, I almost wouldn't want to cover up its flavor with cheese. Oh, I almost forgot. When you order on Door Dash, you can opt to have them include a small side of their chocolate-chipotle bbq sauce, and I highly recommend that you get it. It's a really interesting flavor and is good for dipping the fries in. I didn't try putting it on the burger, but that might be good, too. The mac and cheese was OK. It's important to note that I enjoyed the flavor but it is more of an eggy consistency than a saucy mac and cheese if that makes sense. It has a nice kick of black pepper, which I liked, though. The vegetarian fried rice was also fine but could have used a little salt. All that to say, don't be like me and procrastinate, get the Cali Alley Burger and fries ASAP.
