Shorty's is exactly what you want in a diner. No frills, no gimmicks, no attempt to make every dish instagramable. The menu tells you exactly what you're getting and that's exactly what comes out and they execute it very well. Good portions, great prices, greater food. They didnt try and reinvent breakfast and I found that to be refreshing. We went around 12PM and there was a lunch rush but it moved fast. They also have one side of the building designated for take out. I really enjoyed my time here and loved that the waitress offered me a coffee to go as I paid the check. read more

Tried the hotel breakfast ... wait was too long/food poor/service 'overworked' NOT AT shortys! We searched out a local diner place close to Williamsburg with ez parking! The staff was really nice and professional , super varied menu in this olde tyme diner. I love a Cubano sandwich so why not a cubano omelet! It was a hit The choco pancake was gigantic and tasty (we travel with our own real maple syrup) ... my side of grits and fluffy biscuit topped it off. Really cool spot, we were from out of the state, So I think this restaurant has a lot to offer for out-of-towners. You can tell upon entrance that they have a lot of regulars, and people know you there by name. The food and the portions were really big. Listen, don't go here expecting an Maculate, table or floor- you can tell It's been around forever, probably not the cleanest, but the food is gonna be good. Went here on a weekday morning for breakfast and it was crowded! We did not have to wait and they sat us right away. We ordered off the kids menu as well as the regular breakfast menu. The food was delicious and it came quickly. I ordered the breakfast sandwich and it did not disappoint. They came around regularly for coffee and beverage refills. The décor was so cool. Went on a Sunday around 11 thinking we'd beat the local church-goers. It was packed an bustling, but we got a table right away and were greeted warmly and quickly (I think Angie is correct name for our server). We were served in a timely manner. My husband's omelette was large and tasty. He enjoyed the grits, home fries and toast with "real" butter. I had the Eggs Benedict. Honestly, I wasn't expecting them to be great, as it was a diner and not a more upscale breakfast spot. I was surprised! They were werved on a biscuit and were delicious! I'd had two other tries at Benedict while in Williamsburg and both had been "meh". Shorty's knocked it out of the park. We were also offered to-go drinks as we left. My husband had a view of the kitchen and said the gentleman with short hair and the build of a linebacker was running a tight ship. Very determined and very professional. Great find! read more

Ordered a cheese burger, hold the lettuce and it came without mayo, mustard, tomato, pickles, onion or an offer to serve it, the BBQ was very salty and the fries were stale, hard and bland. The service was good and the place was fairly clean. read more

My wife and I have been to the Shorty's in Yorktown for lunch and decided to go to the one in Williamsburg for breakfast. It started out ok, Angie greeted us and asked for our drink order (2 unsweetened tea). When she came back, she asked if we were ready to order. Having never looked over the breakfast menu (big selection), we asked for a few minutes. First mistake. She disappeared for probably 10 minutes and no amount of trying to get someone's attention helped. I believe the hostess looked at us several times and was wondering what was going on. Angie finally shows up, takes our order and rushes off. Food arrives promptly and good, she comes back to fill our teas and takes off to wait on a group of regulars and another table. I take a swig of tea and she had refilled it with sweet. Told the wife before she drank any, because she can't have it. Start looking for Angie to catch her and can't get her attention because she is so engrossed with her regulars. I finally get out of my seat and go to the counter. Meanwhile our food is getting cold, our attitude is getting hot. I tell her in a measured voice, "Excuse me, but when you refilled our teas it was done with sweet tea. We need new ones unsweetened please." She immediately, if not sooner, copped an attitude and didn't apologize, but offered an excuse that she used the proper pitcher (which she didn't, she pointed to the clear one and I remembered seeing the colored one when she poured). But that wasn't the worst of it, it was her attitude and lack of attention to us. When she did bring us new tea, my wife told her thank you and I will be needing more. Angie didn't acknowledge her, but literally rolled her eyes as she walked away. My wife was hot and me too! The guy sitting beside us (one of her regulars) asked what was wrong and when we told him he said she isn't normally like that. I told him I'm glad you like her. Later, she comes back with a glass of tea to top off my wife's tea. No pitcher, a glass of tea with no ice and starts pouring it into my wife's glass. She gets about halfway and stops and stares. We are looking at her like what, you looking for something? She then picks up the glass and states I think I put sweet tea in this. Glass 3 now being brought to the table. We finally got the bill, two unsweetened tea to go and a smile. Paid cash, I didn't want to leave a tip, but the food was good. The service just sucked. Didn't leave my normal 20% on the total, but 10% on the subtotal. read more

An Elvis Presley statue presides over the main room. The sammies are large and well made. Am impressed by the fried catfish sammie , a real winner. The potato salad and coleslaw are both excellent. The Italian sub comes heated--and that threw me. Never had that done before, prefer it room temp. Portions are generous. I give a restaurant 3 times before writing a negative review. Shorty's used to be a good restaurant but for the past year or more my breakfasts have been burned, sausage hard and dry (you'll need a real steak knife to cut that, not a butter knife), the grits too runny and no taste whatsoever and of course the jalapenos in the burned potatoes made me literally sick hours after eating just a few bites. I did not see the jalapenos and only ate the few potatoes before realizing there was hot peppers. The biscuits are hard and dry. I actually had to stop by Wawa and grab a breakfast after eating at Shorty's. Not worth the money, should mention on their menu about the peppers and the service is not that good either. There are too many other good restaurants in Williamsburg to chance Shorty's - don't even bother. read more

It's not fancy, it's not fat-free, and it's just the way they want it to be. This diner is literally a throwback. There was a kitschy Elvis statue, waitresses in short skirts with tights, and very few green menu items. However, it understands the assignment--a wide variety of diner items cooked with speed, butter, and care. A very large group of family members left full and content. A few even found oatmeal and lettuce-heavy items to keep them at bay. Win-win. read more

A solid 4.5 and to think we almost went to Cracker Barrel. Grateful for the long line at CB that had us second think our choice. Found Shorty's instead. An old time diner full of locals and and a happy smiling waitstaff. Pictures of locals and celebrities lined the walls, along with a life size Elvis statue. Breakfast was a home run. I got 3 perfectly cooked over easy eggs with bacon and hash browns and the Mrs got a 3 egg cheese omelet with grits. Hot coffee washed it down. Just sorry we found this place at the end of our week in Williamsburg and not sooner. Would have loved to try lunch or dinner, some folks ordered the fried fish special @ 10:45 am and almost made me regret my breakfast selection. Visited the Burg last week and stopped at my favorite breakfast restaurant- Shorty's Diner. Instead of my usual order of a Russian omelette, I built my own omelette - bacon, cheese and mushrooms, cooked softly as ordered. Hash browns and a light and moist biscuit came with the three egg omelette. Enjoyed every bite! As always, I was seated and served quickly. shortys diner is the best!! I love it!! went again today and I got a veggie omelette and a biscuit and home fries. FANTASTIC!! The last time i went a few months ago, i got the blueberry pancakes and those were also FANTASTIC. I love the service here as well...it is quick and the waiters and waitresses all seem like family. they all seem to enjoy their jobs and one of them says she is 28 and has been working there since she was 17 and loves it!! First, I'd like to say that our server, Vanya, was absolutely incredible and when I got home and looked at the receipt I realized I did not tip her enough for her great service. I promise I'll make up for it! She was beyond accommodating and attentive. The decor is a retro diner and is perfect for the feel. They do have a few booths and otherwise it is chairs and tables. Seating is a bit crowded but that's because so many people enjoy this place! Our food came out hot and flavor was on point. Portions are normal to large. Prices are extremely reasonable. This is my second and last visit to the Yorktown restaurant. The first visit was a door dash delivery order. I took into consideration that the food was being delivered and did not knock the food temp. I got the shortys special and full cakes. The home fries tasted as if they had been cooked yesterday and reheated. the over easy eggs ended up being well done, not runny yolk. The pancakes were fine.
