I'm from Philly, and these are the real deal. Speaking of deal, the portions are very large. Splitting a large between two people still leaves you pretty full! They use good ingredients with Amorosos rolls and you can get them any way you want, including with Cheez Wiz. For the gluten-free crowd, you can get the entire sandwich contents on a bed of lettuce if you wish. Purists might hate that idea but the cheese steak salad is actually pretty good! Wait staff is very friendly. This is a very casual environment and outdoor seating is available. read more

My family and I were coming home from Busch Gardens and really wanted a good cheese steak. I did quick search and this was the first place to pop up. We decided to check it out and we are so happy that we did. The food was phenomenal. I ordered a 12" cheese steak for my husband and I each and also a large loaded onion rings. I didn't ask until after it was ordered but 12" comes with a Lb of meat on it. It was amazing. I ordered mine with just about everything and it was huge and full of flavor. The onion rings though we're probably my favorite. Super crispy and definitely freshly made. It was loaded with gooey cheese, ton of freshly fried bacon and jalapeños. The best I've ever had. I only wish I lived closer to order more often! The staff was extremely pleasant and engaging and super helpful with my order. The price was worth every penny that we spent. read more

We LOVE Rick's!! First, the service is OUTSTANDING! You cannot ask for a better group of employees to greet you. Everyone is incredibly welcoming, friendly and always smiling. You walk away feeling like you are one of the family. The food is amazing. You cannot go wrong with the classic cheesesteak - the bread is soft, the meat/cheese combo is delicious, and the portions are HUGE! I also love the mozzarella sticks - not too much breading, and so tasty. if you're not in the mood for a big sandwich - try the chicken fingers! this place is really awesome. cool quirky friendly atmosphere. the cheesesteaks truly are competitive with Philly and they have a large beer selection. the Maryland steak (with some shrimp) is good. the bread is OK but I think not quite up to Philly standards (perhaps no Italian bakeries in the Burg?) but in general a great steak . reasonable prices. they have a large very of beef and chicken steaks to choose fromalong with many other sandwiches and sides and other menu items. read more

They were no Pat's, but as close to the real deal as you're going to get outside Phila. Tasty sides and friendly service. Super bonus - costumed workers from Colonial Williamsburg come in for lunch. Really good sandwiches in a busy small restaurant. That kid of sums it up. We had dinner early on a Monday evening. There was just one waitperson working and he was friendly and efficient, but no nonsense. Be patient, you'll get your food and it'll be good. Husband had a burger and fries, I had a 6" cheesesteak and fries, 12 year old had Italian hoagie and 8 year old had kids' chicken strips. Everyone was happy with their dinner. The meat in all was tasty and good quality. No chewy bits of steak at all. Add the horseradish sauce if that's your taste. It's worth it for the sandwich and fry dipping. The Italian hoagie was big, probably 8-10" and stuffed with meat and cheese. We took home half. Chicken strips were hot and seemed freshly fried. The burger seemed freshly patties and cooked. It took a bit to get all our food but we were happy with our meals. It was a nice walk back across Williamsburg Market Square to our car. There is a small lot in front by the way. Came 35 mintues before closing and the food was terrible. Ordered hot wings , mozz sticks, fries, and a philly cheesesteak. The wings were not hot just very dark dry sauceless REdropped wings. Oh my god....those are the best three words to describe this small, colorful family run business. I had wanted to visit this since my last Williamsburg trip last year and we finally made it this time. This is hands down the best cheese steak I've ever eaten in my life. This place is the real deal and I doubt anyone could find a better cheese steak, especially with the size and price. Before I came to this godly place, I imagined it looking like a little dingy shack kind of place. Something you might find on the corner of a major city. Instead we were welcomed into an extremely bright, spotlessly clean restaurant with tons of cool art and Philadelphia memorabilia. The place has a few tables, a couple of booths and a lunch counter. You could tell it was new and the owner kept it extremely clean. Rick's Cheese Steak Shop could have fit in just about any place, in any city. You forget you're in Williamsburg, Virginia and not in a place like Williamsburg, Brooklyn in New York due to the "hip" atmosphere. It's a very cool place and in a league of it's own when dining in this historical town. The food here is unbelievable. I thought the Cheese Steaks I got at restaurants or bars back home were good, but I was extremely wrong. These cheese steaks are real and authentic and they are huge! Definitely one of the biggest sandwiches I've ever seen and well overstuffed which you don't tend to get anymore. I had the large Maryland Chicken Cheese Steak which was chicken (in the form of the beef you typically get on a cheese steak) mixed with baby shrimp and topped with melted cheese. I don't do the whole cheese whizz thing so you can opt for regular melted cheese (not sure what type it is) like I did or cheese whizz. There are plenty of toppings to choose from and I took full advantage of adding lettuce, tomato, onion, hot peppers, sweet peppers and pickles. Like I said, it was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. It was so good, I got a second one to take back to New York with me. There are two sizes, small and large. My wife got a small beef cheese steak with cheese which was sizable, especially when you consider how much meat they put in it as well as a side of their crinkle cut fries which were cooked perfectly and not a spot of grease could be found anywhere. The large size that I got could have been split between two....maybe even three people. I got through half of mine and had to get it wrapped up. The thing was huge and overstuffed to the point it was even difficult to eat with your hands and it was about $11. Don't worry, they are well equipped with silverware for those of you who like to keep it clean during lunch and dinner. For drinks, they have an array of Pepsi products (free refills) as well as many bottled and canned craft beers. The alcohol is cheap too. I wish this place was opened really late, because this place would certainly blow every other bar and restaurant out of the water food wise and price wise. If cheese steaks (chicken or beef) aren't your thing, they have a menu with a variety of burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, chicken wings, fries, mozzarella sticks, deserts, ect. The service here is exceptional. You could tell the family and their co-workers take great pride in their food and customers. It is rare when to find a place where everyone believes in the quality of their food and their customer service. Within ten minutes of being there, you feel like you've known these people for years. They are friendly, down to Earth and just make you feel good about being at their establishment while making you laugh all the way thru your meal. You won't get this treatment or food from Gino's or Pat's in Philadelphia. This place is one of a kind. This place has everything a great restaurant should have. The food is delicious, of high quality, very reasonably priced and has a fantastic atmosphere. There is no reason this place should ever get below five stars from anyone. I've haven't dined at a place like this in many years and I will be a constant customer whenever I come back to Williamsburg. It's almost worth it to drive the 6 1/2 hours down and back to bring a couple of these sandwiches home. So Rick's, thank you for providing the Williamsburg community with great food and the best cheese steaks in the country and keep kicking the asses of every other place serving the sandwich you have perfected. read more

A coworker of mine mentioned that Rick's serves a fine cheese steak. We stopped by and grabbed a few to go. They were awesome can't wait to try some of their other items. We were told they would take 10 minutes to prepare and the server engaged in a little bit of small talk while we waited, everyone there was very nice. The cheesesteaks here aren't quite as good as those at the Newport News location, but are still piled high. Fried onions were strangely sweet, but not unappealing. Service was very good. Without the high standard already set at Rick's other locations, this would be considered an outstanding cheesesteak for Tidewater Virginia. Having driven by Rick's many times, but craving red meat, my wife and I stopped in with friends and had a great time and great food! First off, the cheesesteaks are done proper and they should rename their sizes because we had leftovers. Also, they have many great beers in bottles and great prices.
